>> meanwhile the brutally cold and dangerously low temperatures continue to persist. tonight there's a number of school closings and delays for tomorrow. right now, here's what we k know. anne arrundel, calvert, charles, howard, prince george are all on a two-hour delay. all of those school systems on a two-hour delay. st. mary county is closed. meanwhile in virginia cul culpeper, fairfax and fauquier counties on two hour delay tomorrow. you can find updated list of closingss and delays on the bottom of your screen. >> from the cold and snow and storm preparations and your safety, sue palka. >> most of us will see snow covering the brown ground with the most intense period of snow just before dawn and boy, we have a lot of advisories to cover. let me get straight to that. you may have seen picture of the

a record 5.3" in south carolina today. that's historic. it's only done that three times i believe. third grade of snow. as we look in our area we have a number of advisories to get you caught up on. first of all in the red blizzard waingz at the costs. not only do you see the most snow it comes with gusty winds that could be over 50 miles an hour making visibility poor down there. in the pink winter storm warnings significant snow here as well and in the purple including d.c. those winter weather advisories for lighter snow. still enough i think it will have an impact on the morning commute. i'll show you the snow totals in the morning. here is where it is now. southeast of cape hatteras expected to continue to ra rapidly intensify and by the time it hits inova scoshia it could be like a category three

hurricane. as we look at our radar we he believe it is snowing a lot. the air is dry. this is evaporating before it hits the ground. it will begin to hit the ground. some of you have seen a few flurries here and there. it may take longer before we start seeing flurries fall and believe me, they will stick. we'll run you through weather headlines. light snow arriving south and east. we know that. as we look at the rest of headlines we expect slick spots tomorrow morning and especially further east you are. dividing line i think is 95 on east where you will get enough accumulation to cause problems tomorrow morning. that heviest snow bachbtd will continue to eastern shore. delmarva i think you get hit hard as well as coast and certainly snow moves away late morning. there's a part two to all this. we'll talk about that coming up in a bit as we talk about the cold coming in behind it and then we'll show you snow totals in ten minutes, shawn. >> thank you

sue. >> all right. our team coverage continues. korey kauffman is live in ocean city and one of the areas expected to be hit h hardest. i can see the snow is coming down out there already. >> it is and a moment ago it was a rain snow mix. i felt the temperature drop and it's snow. blustery out here. we can see the winds kicking up in many directions. we came across this fire department in ocean city and typically the folks inside here tell us they're usually about four people stationed hire any given night. tonight, because of the storm prep we have a dozen people meeting to figure out the p plan. and they have supplies as well. they're ready to go in case this storm gets pretty bad. we saw some of them coming out here in and salting their drive way to get the emergency crews out and they tell me with dozen or so they have here as people lose power out in

they'll have more you coos come in. we stopped by a main hub in salisburyy tonight to talk about preps that the department of transportation has going on they tell us they have pretreated roads the past several hours and have 130 crews ready to go and plow the roads starting late tonight into tomorrow morning and c crews in case they need it more. they're asking folks to stay off the roads. it's very important to heed these warnings. they understand, though, if you need to drive they have tips for you. we all know there are workers that need to be on the roa roadway. tips be mindful. take your time drive slow, and be aware with high hurricane like winds your visibility can reduce to possibly less than quarter of a mile. please drive slowly. also a term

halls are without heat or hot water. campus will be closed tomorrow and friday. students were supposed to begin returning from winter break thursday, tomorrow, the school is asking them to wait until surprised to do so. however, if students can't wait until then howard says it will help them find alternative places to stay. classes are scheduled to begin on monday. >> d.c. officials have gotten water problems and expect more in the coming days. and in he cannington a break in 8" waterline flooded part of the street and left neighbors without water and d.c. officials say it takes a while to fix problems like these because they have to tow cars out of the way and make sure crews are not in danger of hitting utility lines while they make repairs.
