south korean official says north korea has agreed to hold high level talks with its officials next tuesday. it's their first form l al dialogue in more than two years to find ways to work together on the upcoming winter olympics in south korea. the announcement came hours after the united states has agreed to delay joint military exercises with south korean a until after the olympics. now, to the weather, the massive coastal storm that dumped up to a foot of snow along the eastern see beard has left out of our area but it left behind dangerously low temperatures and bone chilling cold. a number of schools have announced closings for tomorrow. charles, fairfax county, prince william, spotsylvania and stafford county schools all closed torp. dislaid, anne arrundel, prince george's county, they will open with a two-o

we'll keep updating the list four for you. you can check the bottom of the screen. back to our live team coverage beginning with sue palka and a first look at the forecast. are you sure you want to look, tony? >> i'm not sure. the easy part for us locally was the snow. certainly a different story at the coast where we continue to watch this massive noreaster which had the strength of a category three hurricane which has a pressure down to 950 million bars. we can show you pictures from there a little bit later. on the back side of it, though, the wind has been absolutely relentless and now tonight we are under a wind chill advisory that will stay in effect until noon tomorrow because wind chills overnight could be as cold as 15-degrees blow zero. we also have wind chill warnings out in the mountains. they could be as cold as 25-degrees blow zero even colder. temperatures, everybody is already into the teens. we are hea

single digits tonight, but those winds are still gusty so really this becomes about the wind chill tonight. still getting gusts at 28. reagan national peak wind gust was 49. look at everybody picking up these gusts in the 20 #-s and 30s. what does that do to our wind chill, shields your eyes, that's where i was going with that, four degrees here in d.c. two blow w blow. nine blow in hazes towrntion westminster, four degrees blow diseer on. we are headed for single digits and about 11-degrees in the city. what should you be ready for tomorrow morning. the 7 a.m. wind chill prediction seven blow . eleven blow in manassas. fifteen blow at gaithersburg, 17 . 13-degrees blow zero in d.c. that is brutal. it will continue throughout the day, but i think the worst of it will be tomorrow morning which makes this the koaldest air we have seen so far this

moving against the wind, but, yeah, that wind definitely makes for a very, very cold night. so like i mentioned before, not a whole lot of people were out and about and quite frankly i don't blame them. we did see one brave soul out here tonight and he told us there was one main reason that he even came out. just listen; there is no other reason to be out here, other than to see if t there is anything else open and make sure that the restaurants and everything are fine. on a normal day, in fact, even if it snows inland it doesn't snow at the beach because the ocean is so warm it usually keeps it away from the beach and we can go down and wonder around and play in the sawbd r sand. when we got to 11 inches of snow on my balcony the puppy has a hard time relieving himself. and there goes that wind again. it just picked up very briefly right now anyway, i'm told that the beach will open at 10:00 tomorrow. p if you do decid

birth day. happy birthday. thank you so much. >> the focus in st. mary's now swifts to the wind, a wind chill advisory is in effect right now than a it will stay there through noon tomorrow. wind chills can range from five above zero to fence blow. that power ful winter storm that offed month up the coast from florida bringing snow to southern parts of country for the first time in years. in north carolina at least three deghtsz are being blamed on the storm. this may be the fourth. overnight police found a man dead inside a car that was submerged in a canal in surf city much that's about an hour northeast of wilmington, north carolina. and our season ed coastal residents who are used to powerful storms and noreasters aren't really used to the blizzard conditions that have been found out there. that's rare for our state. these troopers have responded to over a thousan

snowstorm started and over 700 of those have been related to automobile collisions. some parts of north carolina got as much as six inches of snow, a winter weather advisory is p in effect for saturday morning. you can get an up to the minute list of school closings and delays plus get weather updates on the fox5 mobile app. the search is on tonight for the gunman who shot somebody in landover. police were called to the scene just before four this afternoon. when officers arrived they found a man shot inside a car along the 300 block of hill road. he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. the motive for the shooting still unclear. for the first time in montgomery, an accused drug dealer is being held responsible for an overdose death and it's apparently becoming more and more common across the cunt

of an ongoing effort by law enforcement to combat the opioid epidemic that's claiming tens of thousand ts of lives. lindsay watts is live with the story. >>reporter: sarah, we're here in mont circuit court where accused drug dealer stephen woods will appear tomorrow. woods is not only charged with selling fentanyl, but also with involuntary manslaughters. it's after police say woods sold to a germantown man who later died of an overdose. we got to take a look at the court documents today. according to police the last text on the victim's phone were to woods. they outlined an alleged drug deal for fentanyl which is up to 50 times stronger than herein. the last text from the victim was about an hour before he died. it read in part thanks for hooking it up, i'll catch you on the other end. this happened over the summer, the man who died dan cotter was 31 years old. i spoke to his father

want on go on camera as this criminal case is still underway just yesterday we found out about a similar case in anne arrundel. police say jacob caldwell was arrested also accused of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly selling a fatal dose of heroin. the man who died is a 28 year old from pasedena. charging drug dealers with manslaughter or murder could put them behind bars for decades. some say it's the right thing to do as the opioid epidemic continues in our country. others point to evidence that this doesn't reduce over deaths and could perhaps discourage a person who provided drugs from calling for help in an overdose scenario. nonetheless, this is certainly something that prosecutors in our area are now looking to and increased penalty for drug dealers and again here at montgomery county courts it's the first time they can remember this happening. we're live in rockville, lindsay watts, fox5 loo. >> well, the coast

called our news room from inside the plane. fox5's lauren demarco is live at dulles with more on the story tonight. lauren. >>reporter: sarah, i took calls from several passengers. they were also calling the airline 9e told that it is up to the pilot to decide when to allow passengers to exit the plane. this was airline as argentina flight 1300 from bane yoas to new york. when jfk was ,sitting here today, down they were diverted to here. after more than four hours on that tarmac the passengers were finally told that buses were coming to take them to the airport. that they could get off and be herein side . i want to show you some cellphone video from what was going on inside of the plane. we've been on the runway for three hours. do you see a bus? no, where is the bus? she's looking for the bus. where is the bus? you just said you have a bus

>> we have no staff here. the pilot was hoping to keep everyone board so they could take off once jfk reopened, but they decided enough was enough. there were kids on board, a iment thered number of restrooms and they wanted off. it just wasn't right. the pilot wasn't making the proper decisions. the flight was already delayed three hours. we were in the air for 11 and a half hours and then he's going to turn around and fly the plane to jfk. does he have the mental capacity do that at that point in this weather condition. people were scared. they said if the plane was going to take off everybody was going to stand up. we presented them with information that we could see on our phones that jfk was closed until 8:00. at that point they were minute i revolts and then they called the buses in. dulles welcomed the

and pizza, but that wasn't until 7 p.m. after they cleared customs. mind you, the plane landed at noon. many of the travelers then board buses to new york. airports authority spokesman said the airport did encourage the pilot to low passengers to disem barge but ultimately it was his call. the airline will face a penalty. the maximum passengers should spend on the tarmac for an international flight was four hours and they exceeded that. this was one of 19 flights diverted here to dulles today. there's another one that is still dealing with issues. this is man eesh. you were travelling from dough t hamilton health care and you've been diverted here. how long did it take you to get your bags. they took five hours to give us our bags. >> this was after how long of a flight. >> that was 14 hours of flight. q. and now you're waiting to get on a flight to where you need

maryland ten inches. clean off the roof of your car if you live in these areas that got the big snow amounts. calloway in southern st. mary's qulownt, 6.3 . ocean city, maryland got eleven inches and here in d.c. we just got brushed by the, less than an inch of snow in d.c. and especially points west. that's how we're doing with snow. the wind again quite a big factor today. five a mile an hour gust s. reagan national, 49. we will stay within disi tonight and really cold. this is massachusetts where not only did they have hurricane force winds and amazing snow totals, but massive flooding. gorchor baker of massachusetts said they had a historic high tide. in other words the highest on record in the state with major flooding in places like sit wet that stopped at 15.6 feet. maine in new hampshire also

so warm yesterday. we may not hit 20-degrees tomorrow. that's the first thing you need to know because the storm that passed us by, that amazing tornado watch easter call it bomb cyclone, call it what you want, it was a historic storm, as strong as a category three hurricane as it worked it's' way up the coast. it's next act is to grab some of the cold air and pull it right back into our reej ofnlt 18- degrees here right now, buffalo is five, boston 25. you can see where the storm is swirling here off the coast. two blow in tornado watch and toe. so much the country is cold but you can really see where we're going to grab the artic air and pull it down into the northeast. that's where the situation is going to be with the storm system pulling in strong winds that gusted as high as 45 and 350 miles an hour and even higher in our area. certainly higher at the coast. that's going to be around tomorrow. when we combine it, the wind gusts with the cold temperatures we're going to have

situations in two different places the alleged bad guys shot by the victims. the latest out of montgomery county. marina maracco now in the news room with new details. >>reporter: murnt police responded to several break-ins in a silver springs neighborhood . there they were flagged down by a resident who says fired several gunshots. officers received reports of an 18 year old shot in the leg. police determined he and two other teenagers were the suspect s who had been shot at during the alleged break-in. the juveniles had been charged with theft. he's expected to face charges once he's release from the hospital. once the resident's action warranted and could that person also face charges? as far as maryland go es, you have a right to defense yourself, but you also have to weigh that right versus, you know, what crime is being committed. if you are being placed in body hm.

always something that a we're looking at to see exactly what transpired in this case to see if any charges may be appropriate against the resident who fired the shot. just last week a similar scene played out in prince george's county. several suspects attempted to break into a car parked in a driveway on slieg oh parkway in hyattsville. police believe the resident there fired several shots from inside the home down to the driveway killing one of the suspects. police recovered surveillance video from that home which they say the suspect 's actions before the shooting. prince george's county police have yet to announce if charges against that resident will be nield in that case. the trump administration just issued new guidelines to federal prosecutors making it easier for them to go after marijuana users and sellers in states where it's legal. fox news correspondent garret ten any has more. >>reporter: attorney general jeff session has a long history of opposing pot leelization and on thursday he took a shot acro t

marijuana history by reversing an obama policy allowing marijuana markets to yoarnt in states where it's legal. it comes a little more than a month after sessions saying he was taking a hard look at policy and its legal implications. the use of marijuana is debt requirement alan we should not give encouragement in any way to it. the new policy drew immediate condemnation from a number of people including garner who says sessions promised him that it would not be a priority. the conversation we had that was specifically about this issue of state's rights in colorado until he lives up to that commitment i will be holding all nominations to the department of justice. the move also comes just four days after california launched the world's biggest legal marijuana market and the new policy could have significant economic impacts by injecting uncertainty into an industry that's already

got new legs and now lilly and her mom are yog going to join the team on january 13. this christmas tree caught a lot of attention in silver springs when it was lit back in november. it was disek rated with bicycles that were lit up in all kinds of different colors. and the tree itself was powered by 12 city share bikes and a wind turbine on top. people passing by were encouraged to take a turn to help keep the tree lit for hours . now it's time for all the bikes on the tree to go to families in need. the organization a wider circle is in charge of the donation. they're a grass roots organization helping struggling families fur their homes. they tell us all the bikes are in great condition and will go to families who need them h. we'll get to see the faces of these kids and these moms as they receive the bikes. i know wait will mean to them and that's why we're so proud and actually greatful to the peterson company . for these families, the holidays may have passe
