. fire and fury, the bombshell new book already a best seller. we have to wait because it is already sold out and that is despite a legal threat from the president himself who is still in a war of words with former advisory steve bannon >> the bombshell book about the trump campaign and the administration, out a couple days early, the attorney issued a cease and desist to try to stop a book from going on sale. again it came out early. on sale at midnight >> we're told people were linin

in the book, steve bannon called the president's son unpatriotic and treason us for meeting with the russian lawyer, called ivanka trump as dumb as a brick and the ongoing investigation is the category 5 hurricane. he tweeted he never had authorized access to the white house but the book is full of lies and sources that don't exist and refer to bannon as sloppy steve. >> of all the nicknames we chuckled at that one. >> it's kind of harsh, because >> let's go to a different steve. steve sal liss. owner of kramer books. did i say that right, you did, as long as i'm not sloppy steve. >> hey, so we saw the pictures last night. when was the last time you saw this anticipation for a book? because you had them
6:32 pm
the door last night. >> we had a big crowd last night. we sold all of our copies within a couple of minutes. really awesome, very cool. last time i can remember something of this caliber was probably the harry potter book that came out last august. >> no line for hillary clinton's book what happened? >> not as big as harry potter. i think really speaks to, you know, the whole talk about book stores these days. you know, a lot of people say, wait a minute, where is the book store going? the reality is when you have something that people have to get their hands on and they want to get it at midnight, there's something about having a tangible book, regardless of what the book is about, harry potter, donald trump, that's good business for guys like you. >> it's great business for us, in our business is alive and well, current book is 42 years old, interwoven into the fabric of washington, dc, it's really
6:33 pm
people line up for this book. i made the joke earlier, i think a lot of people set their elements for before midnight last night. which may be a little bit earlier than how most may wake up >> are you hearing anything? anybody talking? >> it's been great. >> waiting in line, like what people were anticipating? out of this book? well, so much controversy around the book and a lot of juiciness, any time there's controversy and juiciness, there's an opportunity for people to talk, a lot of people talked about this book and as evidence to that very fact, the publishing house moved up the date from tuesday to today and our book store is open till 1 a.m. on weekend days, so i got to give a tremendous amount of credit to the book team and social team around 6:00 last night. we got word they wanted to push the release up. we happen to have copies and we published the copies out >> and you're sold
6:34 pm
>> they sold out in a few minutes. we sold out last night literal until a couple minutes. >> all right. we'll call you sweater, steve, that can be our nickname. certainly not sloppy steve >> have a great weekend. >> thanks, guys, thanks for having me, thanks so much. try to stay warm. new details about the department of justice investigation into the trump campaign possible russia ties, the new york city reporting president trump directed his white house counsel to urge attorney general jeff sessions to not recuse himself, article cites an anonymous source who said sessions rejected the suggestion before he went ahead and recused himself the. it followed that jeff sessionss had spoken in 2016 from the russian ambassador. >> let's have elana in from axios. glad to have you here. we kee

seems like fades away and comes back in full force. any big take aways on it so far >> the session news is pretty crazy. this is something we haven't learned before. there's a lot of new revelations that going on with mueller and his team. so the session new that is trump white house counsel has been ordered by the president to urge sessions originally not to recuse himself from the investigation. gives a lot of insight into what we've been seeing between trump frustrations with his attorney general. session is the country's top law enforcement officer and he's not even able to weigh in or really have any power in the nation's biggest case which is the russia investigation, there were a lot of other revelations, and showed big breakthroughs in the investigation >> can you see any sort of end in sight with this investigation? seems to be ongoing, there are constant de
6:36 pm
of inkling as to how long this may stretch on? >> it's unclear. ty cobb had said multiple times that it would be over by the end of 2017. that's clearly not the case. it's looking like it will go red line into this year and possibly into 2019. though everyone is saying it will end, there' so many new things that keep popping up and having to be investigated that it could go on for a lot longer. >> there were two people in thi administration that seems every couple you hear a news story one is rex tillerson and the other is jeff sessions and we know that the president was not happy. he publicly said as much, if he knew sessions was going to accuse himself he wouldn't have picked him as attorney general in the first place but seems like jeff sessions comes around makes a big announcement on marijuana yesterday and he doesn't seem like he's going anywhere any time soon. >> i don't think that's the case. he had handed in his resignation when he found o
6:37 pm
trump was with him for recusing himself when trump had no idea that that was going to be the case. but trump didn't accept it. they have a really good relationship with each other. session was one of the first strong supporters of trump in the lead-up to his presidential bid. so there is that relationship. though his not being able to work on his russia case is a huge factor in there, in all these rumors, he really isn't able to what several other attorney generals have done in the past. you know, he doesn't have an eric holder like obama did, sessions isn't able to help in this way >> and of course, if the president did encourage that, for him to not recuse himself, does that strengthen the obstruction of justice argument >> that's what i think mueller is looking into. of there's a series of things between whether trump obstructed justice. the bigges is when he fired comey and there's also the point
6:38 pm
was there any collusion between russian official thes and members of the trump campaign? so still to be determined. >> we certainly know the administration stance on the investigation itself. elana great to see you and have a great weekend. the justice department looking into whether the clinton foundation violated tax laws, investigators looking into whether it might be possible that donors made donations to the clinton foundation in exchange for political favors, the spokesman calls the new investigation disgraceful an an attempt to create a distraction from the trump/russia investigation. >> things keep cropping up >> the e-mail server still taking center stage i elisha comings in the hospital after a procedure to drain an apparent infection. he said health related issues were related, he's
6:39 pm
comfortably expected to make a full recovery. this is the latest in a string of health issues that have plagued the long time lawmaker. worth mentioning his wife announced she was suspending her campaign for maryland's governor. an eventful day. switching over talk to gwen about, of course, he's heat up in the political world, just getting colder here in washington. gwen, what do we have looking ahead for the weekend >> definitely talking cold. we're talking terrible cold weather. it will get colder once we get into tomorrow. let's take a look where things are right now, because it's 70 air temperature-wise, but feels like it's only four, that's part of the problem, the windchills that we'll have. overnight lows expected to be in the single digits. of pretty much, i was, but we're talking minuses when it comes to windchills and that is downright dangerous, that arctic express continues to pump the cold air across the area and it will not change we get a little bit of a sight
6:40 pm
start to improve relatively speaking. windchill advisory in effect and a windchill warning, in the advisory area, temperatures as far as the windchill values are concerned will be anywhere from five above to ten below. in the warning area, anywhere from five to 25 degrees below zero. here's a look at your fox 5 accu-weather seven-day forecast. a warm front, a welcome site, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday are those temperatures, finally they will be on the rise if we get a warmer wind flow, as far as this weekend is concerned, stay safe, 30 minutes outside of exposed skin can mean frost bite and we don't want do stories on you dealing with that. stay safe and warm. back to you. coming up on 5@630, a look at the week in review.

head spinning wake in washington. >> we're five days in, and the new cycle kept going on and on. >> chairman of the national bar association back, republican president and founder of black conservative federation. good to see you both. >> thank you for having i guess so >> i believe this is the first one we've had you on 5@630 before. i'll throw the first >> maiden voyage. >> so all this talk about this book that came out, fire and fury, the president doesn't seem to be too happy am what is your take? >> president is unhappy about it, nor is a lot of us who support the president. this book is ridiculous. it is very unpatriotic to do something like this towards the president.
6:44 pm
average joe, he's the president of the united states and deserves the respect, and steve bannon should give him that respect. so i'm pretty upset about the book. >> well, the truth hurts if you will. i don't need fire and fury to tell the democrats or americans a what's going on here, this is -- is this confirmation of what reporters like you all have been covering, it's from his tweets, and quite frankly, other sources that make it clear that we have a president that's got a lot of challenges, he's also been a super narrow assist a new york developer, but steve bannon who is close to the president, who's his chief advisory, many believe responsible for him winning is quoted and confirming the narcissim, the child like activities, his lack of focus and what, if any, i was, and so i think it's worth reading but i also think it's worth listening to and reacting to, because there's a lot of truth to think i'm not saying it's
6:45 pm
true but there's a lot of confirmation, a lot of quotes in there. >> what about the question of the president's fitness for the presidency when it comes to mental health? there's no expert weighing in here, this is just sort of something observed by people, people around of him reportedly. is that fair >> it's a fair discussion, because it's what reporters hear and see, and listen to. i don't need an expert to tell me that the president may have some psychological challenges if i observe it, that's just a layman's view, if you will but you're not going to find the psychologist or the association coming out and giving a diagnosis based on observations, that's not fair, certainly if the psychologist reviews him he's up for a physical next week, it will be interesting what they disclose and what they won't because it gets dicey because of privilege but the reality is. we make our own judgments. now, doesn't mean it has to be a medical diagnosis. what i observe and
6:46 pm
observe beyond the democrats we got real problems here. and that's dangerous for us >> i'm going to go to a lawmaker to ask a lawyer what's going on inside might have head. >> i'd represent you. i'd represent you. >> i hope you won't do that as well. we are not, i'm not a medical doctor. i'm not in the medical field and you're in the legal field. and so how are we to >> i've cross-examined a lot of experts and a lot of psychiatrist >> who are we to say what exactly is happening with the president because it's not what normal presidency is. he's adding change. >> when i tweet and i'm the president of the united states and i tweet that >> are you announcing? >> no. >> if i'm the president and i tweet that my nuclear code is bigger than yours and closer to my finger, that's part of some international diplomatic policy where nuclear

steak and at issue, that's a problem. that may not be psychological al problem or diagnosis, but wouldn't that raise concern for you >> it was a retaliation >> that my nuclear button is bigger than yours >> guess what happened the next day? communication open between north and south korea >> doesn't mean he doesn't have challenges. i don't mind him being different. i just want him to be competent and i want him to protect us and to lead us and based on his own record and writings, he doesn't seem to be filling that bill very well >> i feel very safe. >> that's sad. >> we'll leave it at that. >> another thing. it's your show. thanks for coming in, please come back. >> we will >> i know you will. >> see you soon. moving on, kicking up

scene over golden globeses, hollywood has been under a dark cloud. we'll talk about that when we come back on 5@630. j
6:49 pm
6:50 pm
. we've gotten into a ton of things friday, a good debate and cooled things off from our buddy guy lambert who's here to talk a little bit about what's going to be a big weekend, of course, in hollywood, we've been talking so much about the golden globes, but we'll start with president trump's press secretary and who that may have been in the first place. >> you know what? didn't end up being a pretty blond >> there was a lot of talk he wanted to do that >> don't you love it when you get thes do gossip or as they say down south, the tea >> somebody said we're going to have the tea i said i don't know what that is. of the producer had to guide me along >> this is peach tea, president trump who he initially wanted as his president
6:51 pm
profile we found that out initially, as to the book, we now know the secret. not only laura ingram but possibly aaron coulter, in the end he decided on tucker carlton, but tucker said hold up, guys, i really don't want that gig, it's too high profile for me. we now know that the president's transition team ended up selecting sean spicer, which might -- really lead us to really understand why there was all the tension between at the two. of because it wasn't the president's first-second, third or fourth choice. >> what would melissa mccarthy have done though >> good point. >> would have been fun know at least >> apparently she had considered it and now she's a new gig on fox news, so she's not going anywhere >> i'm worried about maria barrett as well. used to tv, wants pretty faces. also all eyes on espn.
6:52 pm
yet another controversy with another one of their hosts, what is with this whole cross over between sports and politics. >> that's really good question. you're talking about katie nolan, who recently worked at fox as a sports analyst. she switched over to espn, and she's known to be somewhat controversial. she speaks her mind, recently she appeared where she was asked what she thought about president trump and she said he is bleeping stupid. now, espn recently issued a social media policy saying, hey, we really want you guys not to talk about politics. ja mel hill got in a lot of trouble for tweeting and posting and talking about president trump. but the different between this is that was social media, this time she spoke about it on tv. she being ms. nolan. we'll have to see what happens be everybody is watching espn to see if they will take action against her. i don't think they will. >> all right. sunday, award season kicks off is the 75th
6:53 pm
politics is always the but of jokes, seth myers is hosting. a lot of people say stick to the funny stuff. >> well, jim, that is the funny stuff right now. everybody is talking about president trump. we now know that, he said first of all any and everything is fair game. he might touch on that. the young lady is his wife, she's a lawyer. she's involved with the me too movement along with the times up campaign. that's probably what they will address. what will be interesting is how can you do that and keep it kind of funny? so we all remember what happened last year when meryl streep got up and accepted the award. she didn't have so many nice things to say about president trump. he then said some not nice things about her. >> she's overrated. >> come on. overrated? never. >> right >> i'll be watching. we'll see? a lot of people will be watching. guy good to see
6:54 pm
>> i appreciate it. we'll be right back.
6:55 pm
6:56 pm
. as you head into friday, do you have plans? how about preparing for a nuclear attack? well, the centers for disease control are going to have a meeting to talk about this. while spokesman said a nuclear attack is unlikely, it is important to plan and prepare to minimize deaths and it's if and when that would happen. fears of a nuclear attack are growing over the increasing tensions between the u.s. and north korea >> that's frightening. >> david letterman, been awhile. haven't seen him on >> we know he's got a beard >> he's coming back to television his first guest will be former president obama. he has a new show called, like this >> my guest need no introduction with david letterman, guest includes george colin

jay-z and tina fay. you can start streaming it a week from today. they started filming in new york last month. i happened to come across online where you can get tickets to be in the audience. i didn't get it. they did the first episode with president obama last week. of my question, i'm curious about the format. will it be like a late night talk show? will he do an interview segment? is that basically going to be the crux. >> i'm sure it will be entertaining. i feel like he's at least at this point, he is, you know, >> he's put a guy. >> he's retired doing what he wants. >> when he was on nbc and cbs he had donald trump on a lot. you almost could say the two were tight and that kind of went away when then candidate trump got political. regardless we'll see what happens next week. >> i think it's worth tuning in for, and i love the name. >> it's like that book. you can judge the content of it but read it watch the show tell us what you think. >> tt

announcer: today on "tmz" -- charles: ok, we're not even one week into paris hilton's engagement and there is trouble in paradise. she left her fiance. >> wait. >> and chris is just standing there like -- >> i'm her fiance. [laughter] i just lost it. she doesn't care at all. >> he knows his place. he doesn't say, hey, i'm chris. he says, i'm the fiance. >> jake and logan paul have had a pretty rough start to 2018. we got a video of jake and he drops the n-word twice. [bleep]. >> jake follows logan's little brother, who logan got all of the pushback from the suicide video he showed on his youtube. >> jake paul must be pissed off at logan because now his stuff is being dredged up. charles: logan is happy this is going on.
