to see. especially as you get into the night with the dark roads. you know? and we're starting to see the rain and precipitation come down as we drove up river road and up 270 we hit traffic and bumper to bumper traffic we've seen earlier and things started to clear up. and on the actual highway things looked good as we saw the rain coming down and we didn't feel any freezing rain yet. which is some good news. but, of course, as things dip down tonight it will be likely that everything will kind of fwlaiz over and so that's why we're checking the neighborhood roads right now. as you mentioned they're more likely to freeze over quickly, easier, that's sort of thing. so the sidewalks and these neighborhood streets we're checking. and with all these checks happening we also want to warn you about the water main breaks that officials have been covering in virginia and maryland and washington d.c.. we know there has been hundreds and even in the past couple days we have covered four that we've been able to send our crews out to.

and a local worker down on administrative leave. more on this story, anjali. >> sham r shawn kelly is locked at the montgomery county center and we learned active working at two elementary schools as well as church. >> ask this is mug shot of 30-year-old shawn kelley for arresting and districting child important. maryland state police say pack in july national center for missing and exploited children picked up on suspicious activity involving child porn from a computer at kelly's hoe in silver spring. they tracked the ip address and served a search warrant on his home pea on owe lane early friday morning and arrested him three counts of distribution and seven counts of possession. the pornographic images did not show picture of any montgomery county students

the home today when "fox5" went by. investigators say kelly worked as a part time lunch room aid cloverly elementary school 2016 to september of last year and helped lead sunday school activities for kids at the liberty grove united methodist church in burtonsville and four days in the kids after hours daycare program at canyon road elementary school. after his arrest letters from the school and daycare were sent home to parents and cl clovely elementary principal saying these charges are extremely upsetting and distressing and the type of behavior does not reflect the the principals of mcps or community and will not be tolerated. meanwhile parents also rea reacted. >> it makes me worried and worries me, especially with them being so -- i have a ten-year-old in fifth grade so with him being so much older he kind of understands what's going on. >> i don't think it's concerning because this person has been found

has been caught by police which means we have a policy or some kind of system there that is working. >> and the owner of that daycare program tells me they did a thorough background check on kelly before he was hired and it came back clean. he'll ab raped on february 2. live in rockville, anjali hemphill, "fox5 local news". >> some new details on terrorism case we've been following in northern virginia. shawn dunkin sterling virginia man arrested as part of fbi isis investigation in september was back in court this afternoon. "fox5" tom fitzgerald was in the courtroom as well and he joins us now from the justice department with more. fitz. >> sarah, good evening, shawn dunkin had a detention hearing in the u.s. district courtroom in alexandria u. virginia this afternoon. you remember dunkin was picked up on december 29. that's when fbi agents raided

his his home as part of what we learned as isis related investigation. tonight we know jail is exactly where shawn dunkin is going to stay for now. here's why inside that court today the judge ruled that as part of that detention hearing that he has deemed shawn dunkin as flight risk because in the the court papers it was revealed dunkin tried to flee he from the fbi while they tried toe execute that search warrant in det. now as part of investigation the fbi has detailed in court papers how they have done a phone records search of du dunkin's phone and turned up numerous searches of isis related material including weapons, bomb-making material and they also indicated that informant interviews that dunkin had made statements saying he would like to join isis at some point. now, this hearing today followed up last week where dunkin asked

drop and significant drop in violent crime. and police and community itself paul wagner live in prince jornlt county for those headquarters tonight. paul. >> jen this is information we wanted to shout from the rooftops. county executive here sheriff was here and police chief was here and so was state attorney and they wanted to say that in the last 7 years overall violent climb in pristine jorn kournltsy has fallen 50. 5-0, 50%. let's show you other numbers they were outing today. last year overall violent crime fell and homicide down and according to the fbi the national homicide closure rate is right around 60%. the only increase was thefts have autos from 14% when cared to the same time last year in the summer and by the end

41. we have warmer air coming in and can't use that deep freeze animation much long erin tomorrow will feature longer day. we're still noticing there's quite a bit of orange showing up here. this is how the weather radar shows sleet and freezing rain. it shows up as orange. in the green area we believe this is all still liquid rain because temperatures will still be above freezing at the surface. that's what we're worried about and may be slow and sleet mixing in in these ar areas. i get a little concerning and little bit bigger now than it was a little bit ago at 5:00. we have to keep the precip in the forecast and up until 8:00. and we're only talking few 1 00th s this is a trace to something under 5/100 of ice not enough to bring down tree limbs or power outages or things like that. you can see this is building a bit. that part has to come through here and even after the main precipitation is out you can see:00 rain and mostly ea o

and evan lambert live in southeast with details many about the suspect's connection to the victim in this case. >> the suspects is 46-year-old shawn parker of southeast and it turns out he is the exboyfriend of one of the daughters of the victim. parker is charged with assault and intent to kill and you'll see video on the screen of that night, december 4. police say parker beat and then tied up the victim in his apartment here in southeast on third street southeast. and then set that unit on fire. now, at the time the 68-year-old victim william wright did have life-threatening injuries and he's out of the hospital and recovering and we spoke with one of his daughters tonight and he is back home living with one of the daughters and he is doing well and they are very relieved parker is arrested and he will have first appearance tomorrow and coming up at 6 we will have reaction from
