has been talking about is that the weather is supposed to warm up by the end of the week but in the meantime, in the meantime, we want to get out to fox5's melanie alnwick whose been checking thing out in fairfax county this morning. she has the very latest on what's happening out there. i see you're at it looks like -- i don't know you are. it looks like wherever you are you're cold. i was going to say a school for second there. >> could be. >> you're just in a cold place. >> reporter: i am at a school and it has been very cold but yeah some some cases it looks like i may as well be on the surface of the moon. let me tell you something the sun coming out feels fantastic. and that is exactly what fairfax county school officials and in fact school officials throughout the dc metro area who decided to delay this morning. this is exactly what they wanted. what they were waiting for, because the big problem this morning was the sidewalks and the side roads and the entry ways to the school. you may recall in the earlier hours in we have in elementary school here in reston it wasn't

of the school area where all the children would have to be dropped off by the buses but now things are looking really good. you can see there's still some sand that they put down here on the area to help with that. but really the sun is helping too. it's not even slippery really here that much any more. so that's exactly what they were hoping for. we even went to some other areas neighborhoods with driveways that were like slides and even some shopping center that is were very very tricky going and we talk to a couple of people who ventured out early this morning about their experiences. >> it's a little slick when you have dress shoes on, too. you got to be careful. just kind of do the shuffle and be mindful of the sidewalks. the roads driving around generally okay. they did a good job. >> reporter: what about any thoughts about the schools being delayed this morning? >> my wife has more thoughts about that. i've gone to work and y, it's been a lot of school outings but i guess better safe than sorry
