months. for 11 months, they've had this phony cloud over this administration, over our government. and it has hurt our government. it does hurt our government >> the president said, you know, he doesn't think it's necessary for him to have that interview with robert mueller. we will see what happens. >> he did say at one point it was asked for, that was before everything started to ramp up but he said he would testify or speak to robert mueller. we'll take it from there. another big headline, president trump told south korea leader he's open to direct talks with north korea about his nuclear program. >> phone call with south korea leader, president trump expressed interest in such talks at the appropriate time under the right circumstances. over the weekend, the president said he'd be open to speaking with kim jong-un, there would have to be preconditions. this week president trump expected to extend relief from economic sanctions to iran, president said there's been progress in amending u.s. legislation that governs the nuclear deal, however the

be sanctioned on businesses and people. the president has until friday to decide what he's going to do. otherwise it could jeopardize the nuclear agreements. closer look at both developments, thanks so much for joining us. what, if any, reactions have we heard with the president saying he would be open to the talks with north korea >> the president is now saying that he has an openness to talking with north korea. however, he's mentioning there may be circumstances what that reminds us is that fact that he has said in the past he wouldn't talk with north korea, there would be no democracy until north korea denuclear rising, they said they will never do that, to the extent is thinking we can talk with the u.s. if someone tells you they know that a wear they go, they're flubing it >> there's been so much talk about the discussions between north and south korea. president took credit. although the u.s. is not part of those discussions right now.

anything else >> we'll have to see how it pans out. north and south korea agreed to hold future talks. we don't know when that is and at the most recent conversations between the two countries, south korea reportedly brought up nuclear weapons and north korea representative there said that was ridiculous and he wouldn't talk about it but he did point out, however, that he has his weapons, nuclear point to do the u.s. which could imply they may be open to talking about it if the u.s. were involved. no way to know for certain >> i know we're still in the early stages of this and there's a lot of speculation. have you heard any indication when those talks, if at all possible, might happen? >> not at this moment. the u.s. has had several unofficial back channels in, for unofficial conversations with north korea over the past few years. channel 2 talks, they're called. it will be interesting to see if those become more formal and high level conversations

>> we have the winter olympics coming you's and guests expecting the winter olympics the ceremony to be the night that kim jong-un would do another nuclear test but sounds like and i don't know what -- you've uncovered your reporting, it doesn't sound like we'll see that. >> so one of the things that north korea brought up in their conversations with south korea is that they're interested in having the u.s. and south korea postpone their joint military exercises. which north korea used as rehearsal for invasion and they feel defensive about it and the u.s. has decided to push those back until march until the olympicings are over, it's possible that tensions may simmer down. there are reports last week that north korea may have been preparing for a launch. so again, remains to be seen but looks like things might be eased up for now on that front. >> let's talk about iran, is there any indication which direction the president might lien when it comes to these possible sanctions >> they're reporting that trump is expected to waive sanctions on iran at the end of this week,

for him, and there's six sources that say they're familiar with the conversations, that the white house is having with the -- with people in capitol hill who are familiar with the legislation that deals with the iran deal. the reason that matters is congressional staffers and lawmakers don't have a deadline necessarily but if trump trusts they will work on a deal he's in favor of he can maybe waive the sanctions for now even though he's been so strong about the fact that he doesn't like this iran deal >> good to see you thanks for coming in. >> president trump lashed out at the federal judge in california who temporarily blocked his decision to end dacaly this of course, the program we talked a lot about this protect young immigrants from deportation. the judge ruled the program has to remain in place while both sides battled it out. in response the president said how broken the court system is. he ended and gave congress in my march. that decision

president and congressional leaders yesterday agreed to save daca while tackling other aspects of immigration reforms >> we don't want the government to make profit off undocumented people. off immigrants. >> a lot of those daca recipients are starting told like a paw in this whole political arena. and we've been a pawn for a long time >> looking daca is one of the few things we have democrats and a good number of republicans coming together and agreeing in some way, any shape or form. under the ruling, daca recipients will be able to renew status, government would not be able to accept new applications or allow dreamers to return to the u.s. if they leave larry hogan as the state's general assembly returned to session >> tom fitzgerald is live. >> reporter: the first of the 90-day session where the gel assembly gets back down to business the next couple of months, that you say will not be a

it's an election year. larry hogan, as you know is up for reelection in he 2018 and he is well aware that when we sat down with him today, you know, the governor made it clear, there are a couple of ways you can go when you're in the final year of your term. you could play it safe, rest in your laurels. that does not seem to be the way the hogan team is looking at 2018. he said they're going to hit the ground running, they are going to put what he calls a very aggressive sears of legislation in this legislature. one of them is going to be term limits to limit the amount of time that is people can return here to power in annapolis. another is going to be on fiscal responsibility. but you know when we talked to him today, listen to how he describes how he views what he said might be the most important year of his term here. >> i think it may be. look, we made a lot of progress over the past three years, we're probably putting our mt

in this year. we've gotten a lot of things done, it's an election year, which will complicate things because some people want to play politics. >> speaking of playing politics, we're talking about a republican governor in a democratic state and of course, we have the trump effect. how might that affect governor hogan's bid? >> well, you know, shawn, jim, over the years, people have accused governor hogan of trying to keep the president at arm's length, you know, during the campaign, during this first year of his presidency. we asked him about that today. and he didn't back down from this one. he said, you know, in his respect, that he has a job to do here as the governor of maryland. the president of the united states has a job to do as the president of the united states. from his view point it is his independent that led to a lot of these poll numberses he's coming in anywhere from the

second most popular governor in the country right now. we asked him about this. republican or democratic state? how is donald trump going to effect your chances for reelection? this is what he said. >> we're pleased with aware we are, 72% job approval. i believe the president is about 22% in maryland. so we have a 50 points spread. people don't see me the same as they see president trump. >> reporter: it is something they are keeping an eye on, they're well aware of the political tide in the state and there are a lot of democrats in this building behind us that would like to see larry hogan be a one and done governor here. interestingly enough, we should add that the governor said he's committed to metro funding here but he wants to do that without any tax increase. but he said it is not up to him alone. he has to work with virginia. he has to work with dc and he has to work with the federal government. >> tha
