alexandria with more. >> reporter: we've learned that christopher paul auallyived here in a home off telegraph road which is directly around the corner from his parents' house, where all o this happened. initially police s ty were called out for an overdose and possible domestic assault. but the chief said it was different when they arrived on and scene. as they were tryingo deescalate mr. paul's behavior, r.isaul on own accord caused himself toall to the floor. at this time, the officer seized thepportunity to safely move es was a thr to himlf by his own physical actions. this was done b first handcuffing mr.paul. and then using a nylon supplement restraining device to stop his legs from violently kicking as a matter of policy, the fairfax county fire and

rescue s medicsged outside the home.when mr. paul was brought control, the medics were called in to provide a medical assessment of mr. paul. i can say that no physical use of force was used against mr. paul. nor were any other type of weapons used against him. >> reporter: fairfaxefounty police chi he did rossler said theicwoers who first responded tuesday aft wnoone both trained in crisis intervention and mental health awareness but he said resisted a when officers went to restrain him, he became unresponsive. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. investigators say this started when a family member called 911 after possibly being struck i the head. whenolice arrived they found experiencing a medical or mental health crisis. right no n it'sot clear if any drugs were found at the scene, but paul was not armed.
