breaking news from fayetteville. a person of interest is now a wanted man for the murder of a 37-year-old fayetteville man. damien boyd is charged with first-degree murder and lottery. police say he was the last person with bird saturday night. the body was found yesterday afternoon, and it autopsy reveals he was shot in the head. heboyd may be driving a black 2012 ford focus. tisha: chopper 11 hd flying over northridge crossings apartments as firefighters worked on hot spots. we are live at the apartments in raleigh with the latest. reporter: the fire trucks have all gone. the good news tonight is that no one was hurt.

>> the flames, smoke, it was crazy. reporter: standing outside in the cold, christean hunter was inside of this smoking apartment building just hours before without knowing it was on fire. >> a man came banging on the back door. reporter: when she got her coat and opened the door to leave, that is when she saw the flames in the apartment right next to the what she was in. >> the wind was blowing away from his house, but it just looked out of control, like the whole complex was about to come down. reporter: smoke was coming out of this building at the northridge crossings apartment top >>. >> fire was coming out of the second floor. reporter: everybody got out. firefighters knocked out the flames within half an hour, but flames destroyed four apartments.

reporter: in the past hour, fire crews ruled this fire is accidental. abc 11 eyewitness news. steve: new tonight, garner invests get is locating the driver in the vehicle involved in a deadly hit and run last weekend. the vehicle, a 2005 dodge minivan, is being processed for evidence. police say 23-year-old kayla hagans was driving early sunday morning when she was hit. a driver later spotted her body face down in the ditch. police have not named the driver or filed charges. you can get the latest tomorrow morning right here on eyewitness news. tisha: another raleigh men under arrest facing disturbing charges involving a 15-year-old girl. kenneth warren is charged with promoting the prostitution of a minor and human trafficking. he was found hiding under a bed at an apartment this morning. he is in the wake county jail. a woman is also facing charges in this case. steve: the case against the man

mother is starting to wind down now. the prosecution of trade the on smith trial is expected to rest tomorrow after the medical examiner wrapped up testimony. smith is accused of beating and stabbing to death melissa huggins jones in her apartments in 2013 at he could face the death penalty if convicted. tisha: the former chairman of the unc board of governors apologizing for his gun arrest at douglas airport. he says authorities at the airport discover the gun in my briefcase as i prepared to go on vacation with my wife. this is an the bears sink mistake and i am on am on and to blame here he was booked this morning after airport police found him bringing the gun through security. he says he has taken his wife to the gun range on sunday and forgot to take one of the guns out of his briefcase. it is not known is that gun was loaded.

steve: a scare in the air for passengers on an american airlines flight heading to phoenix from san jose, california, forrest to make an emergency landing in los angeles. the airbus had some kind of mechanical problem. it landed safely. airport officials say eight people, including a flight attendant, were checked out by paramedics at the gate but no one went to the hospital or depressant is reported having breezing problems. maintenance is now expected. tisha: the city of cleveland attempting -- the mayor apologizing to the family of tamir rice for billing there for the boy's final ambulance ride. they were asking them to pay a

here is what we're concerned about over the next couple of days, a little bit of snow, so tomorrow, and wintry mix, and then a cold weekend. highs will struggle to be freezing. windchills in the single digits potentially over the weekend. a storm system from a big could start a light wintry mix. this could quickly transition to just rain. there is rdu. mostly clear. chilly, upper 20's to lower 30's. downright cold in spots. a northeast wind at seven now. 28 degrees be a that could put the windchill down to about 22 and 23, so bundle up. 27 rollin and -- 27 and raleigh in durham. across the rest of the region, mid-to-upper 20's. oxford still 30. fayetteville has clear skies. clouds will increase.

clear out tomorrow night. a quarter to maybe have an inch in an isolated spot or two. this is an area to the northeast that has the best chance of an accumulation, dusting, maybe half an inch. done to the south, a bit of a mix. snow, sleet, changing to freezing rain, but it will not amount to much. could still cause a few travel issues. a dusting at best. i would not be surprised if many areas around the raleigh-durham area seen nothing more than a flurry or two, if that. and winter weather advisory for wake county. we will see about that in the morning. the advisories go a long and east of 95. road surfaces are cold thomas so they could easily get slick spots. i do not want to write this off. check in tomorrow morning to see if there are changes. high tomorrow, mid-to-upper 30's. a system moves by, out of here later in the day. the floodgates open tomorrow night into saturday.
