joel: the word from community activists, we bring you out live at the streetside memorial where local ministers and activists were urging peace. the nation of islam offering security and crowd control for the impromptu march which seemed to serve as a way to let the young protesters blow off steam. we're live in southeast raleigh, i'm joel brown, abc 11 eyewitness news. tisha: joel, thank you, tonight raleigh police chief brown is asking for prayers and patience. she expects to have a written report of the initial findings ready for the city manager in the next five working days. anjelica alvarez is live outside the police department with more. angelica. angelica: tisha, the investigation and internal affairs are part of that investigation to the shooting death of akiel denkins. that will take time. the police chief is asking the public to pass their patience and prayers for the family and

city of raleigh. emotions running high and anger. >> mixed with tears. that's in the crowd finding out from friends it was her son killed during a police chase. >> he was 24. got two kids, a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old. angelica: this afternoon on bragg and e street, the raleigh police officer was chasing a man police say was wanted for a felony drug charge. >> they were chasing him and he jumped the fence. angelica: that specific information about the number of shots fired is not confirmed by police, but four hours after the shooting, raleigh's police chief kasandra brown said this outside

>> during the course of the pursuit, the suspect was shot and killed by the officer. a firearm was located within close proximity to the deceased suspect. angelica: denkins does have a lengthy criminal record with more than a dozen arrests dating back five years. despite the history, there is nothing but anger in this neighbor as denkins' mother vows not to let this go. >> guess what, raleigh, north carolina, ain't going to get away with this one. my lawyer already here. angelica: and in the past hour, raleigh police released the name of the officer involved in the shooting. he was t.c. twiddy, 29 years old and been with the force since 2009. tisha, we should point out that before the shooting, the police chief was meeting before the city council about body cameras. she could not give that presentation. she had to leave the meeting to deal with the aftermath of

tisha: anjelica alvarez live in raleigh, thank you. you can find news about this story here on abc 11 eyewitness news. steve: a funeral procession for a rookie police officer in virginia shot and killed over the weekend. hundreds of police officers escorting the hearst to the funeral home. they were responding to a domestic call when they were met with gunfire. she died. the two other officers are expected to survive. army staff sergeant ronald hamilton assigned to the pentagon has been charged with capital murder. she was be laid to rest tomorrow. she was sworn into the police department one day before her death. tisha: the moment a photographer from "time magazine" gets roughed up at a donald trump rally in virginia. he says he stepped 18 inches into the media pen when a secret service agent put his hands around his neck. the service is aware of the incident and working with the

moment for a woman in carey. neighbors called for help after a woman was trapped in a storm drain. diane pimpinello saw a cat stuck in the storm drain. diane went after the crying animal, afraid it was hurt. however, the rescue didn't go as planned. >> i said, i got to get him, i got to get him in case he is hurt. i started crawling through all of the tunnels. it's a big maze down there. i don't know where i was going but i was determined i was going to save this little guy. i have a few bumps and bruises, i'm ok. the fireman that came to get me said don't ever do that again. tisha: neighbors tell us the cat was eventually rescued by its owners. steve: dozens of for the bragg paratroopers will be back in the arms of their loved ones in an hour or so. they are expected home from iraq at about midnight.

greg: good evening, the 82nd airborne soldiers turning back to fort bragg. for the past nine months, the 82nd soldiers have been in iraq helping oversea iraqi ground forces there, assisting them and training them to fight their battle against isis and coordinate air strikes of suspected terrorist sites. general richard clark told us that isis forces had lost nearly 40% of the land they initially conquered. he said isis bomb factories and oil wells have been damaged or destroyed. around 160 or so soldiers expected back in this wave of returning troops. more due back in the coming days. at fort bragg, greg barnes, abc 11 eyewitness news. steve: the wives and kids are ready, they can't wait, the final hour. tisha: look who is talking, the supreme court justice who drew

tisha: new tonight, erin andrews breaking down in tears in a nashville, tennessee, courtroom as she testified against marriott hotels and the man convicted of stalking her. she is blaming both of nude videos posted on the internet. andrews telling jurors it ripped her apart when some people in the media said the videos were part of a publicity stunt. the sportscaster and "dancing with the stars" star went through most of her testimony. >> i'm like oh, my god, shut it down. tisha: it's been eight years since the videos were posted and despite andrews' best evidence to remove it, it's still online. andrews is seeking $75 million. steve: new tonight, apple scores a win in its fight to prevent the government getting what the company calls dangerous power. a federal judge in new york has
