about theas a city is what do we do now that we have confirmed what we already know? ed: some of the things suggested was that a lot of this would start with a new chief. durham police right now without an active chief. the city council will have to find a new chief. they say that will be a huge stuff depending on who the chief is. though civil rights leaders do not think the improvement should be in the hands of the durham police department but in the hands of

they should do this only by conferring with citizens of durham. john: as ed crump live in durham. thank you very much. barbara: one person is dead after an atv crashed into a sheriff's deputies car. the atv reportedly crashing head-on into the deputies cruiser about a mile southwest. the man driving the atv was killed. john: the fbi's wrapping up its investigation into a man shot police. they are still waiting for evidence, but they expect as a full report by next week. he was shot last month by an officer trying to arrest him on an outstanding warrant. the das office released a poll in their report showing that shoulders. his family said one shot was in the back of the shoulder/ . she hopes to move forward as

but cannot release any information on the report until she has examined the evidence. this to a grand jury. barbara: one suspect is in custody in another is on the run after a double murder in raleigh . a 21-year-old is now charged with two counts of murder and suspect. they are suspected in the dust of men shot to death in a car right behind the restaurant. john: a high school student is charged with firing a gun at wake med in raleigh. 17-year-old cooper is being held on $150,000 bond. he is accused of firing a shot at a man he was trying to rob. cooper and another person went to the hospital parking lot to do a drug deal, but cooper tried to rob the man. cooper's attorney says he is a class president in high school

accused of keeping her three children out of school for more than three years. police in gaston county say jennifer even kept her children, ages 10, 13, and 15, from attending school. the worst part is that the school was lipton walking distance -- within walking distance of the home. officials are trying to get the kids back to class, but the transition to not be easy because they are three years behind. barbara: officials are ringing the alarm as wake county has seen a 15 year high in the number of people contracting syphilis. some of the blame on this is for social media sites. andrea's live with those details. andrea: wake county health officials say they are very concerned about this alarming rise in syphilis cases. they say it is affecting people of all ages and demographics. in 2015, more than 230 people were diagnosed with syphilis in wake county.

to 64 years old. the most common cases officials are seeing right now are from men having sex with men where more than half of those with syphilis have hiv. because syphilis is a mandatory reportable disease, public health officials interviewed patients once they are diagnosed and they are finding that risky hookups between people meeting through social media and smart phone apps like tender and grinder are contributing to the outbreak . health officials are warning about this public health crisis. >> making sure our parents know they need to be educating their teens. there is a lot going on here with our teams that probably our parents are not aware of the social media connections that are being made. andrea: dr. sue said they are seeing a lot of these cases where it includes 15 to

if you are considering adopting a pet, there is a special event this weekend. john: hundreds of animals rescued from an animal shelter are ready for a new forever home. the dogs and cats have gone through weeks of medical care and recovery and are now ready to be adopted. all the animals have been spayed and neutered and they have all their shots. the animals were living in filth during a raid at a hoke county animal shelter. many were found to be sick and some word thatere found to be dead. officials say it's amazing to see their capacity for love after all they've been through. >> especially the want to our special needs seem to have an even bigger capacity. john: the adoption fair started this morning at 10:00 and runs through sunday at a temporary shelter in sanford and there is no fee to adopt. if you're interested in adopting, take a photo id, proof

66 and wilson. the latest satellite and radar composite shows a few high clouds working through with nothing major. there is certainly not rainmakers. all the rain is well off to our west. you can see rain in parts of missouri and snow into kansas. showers and thunderstorms down and hit louisiana. there is a line of showers and storms that look like it will drop southeast into portions of texas. around here, this area of showers will shift east and we will see our rain chances tomorrow into sunday. by 6:00, we are clear and try and not much to show u.s. far as rainfall goes. we'll get the cloudy skies and just really building in the early morning hours. the rain holds off until lunchtime. we will see a spotty shower around tomorrow. the better chance of rain is overnight as of the rain list through. for the rest of today, those temperatures stopping around 70

ed: one of the keys is who is hired as durham's new police chief. while that is very important, they do not believe a solution should be in the hands of the durham police department. instead, they believe the mayor and city council should work closely with citizens to try to get this all figured out and to end those racial disparities. ed crump, abc 11 eyewitness news co. john: an investigation under way into this atv accident that killed a man earlier this morning. chopper 11 hd was over the crash scene. the atd reportedly crashed head-on into a sheriff's deputy's cruiser. the man driving the atd was killed in the deputy was injured. health officials are ringing the alarm bell, saying they have seen a 15 year high in the number of people contracting syphilis. some of the blame for the rise is social media dating sites. andrea blanford is live with an

the leaders of nearly two dozen liberal groups have signed a letter urging the party to unite against donald trump, something that would likely help hillary clinton. donald trump needs to win half the delegates left to clinch the nomination, which is difficult that doable. john: in new york city, the police and the fbi investigating a threatening letter sent to the manhattan apartment of donald trump's son eric. the letter contained dwight howard. preliminary tests found it not to have any dangerous substances. a young american men accused of fighting for isis said it was a bad decision.

the iraqi city do not represent islam. barbara: a victory for governor pat mccrory in the fight over coal ash cleanup. the company in charge of closing the pond were told their services were no longer needed. their services were needed after the massive coal ash spill. in january, the state supreme court sided with governor mccrory saying the legislature overstepped its authority in creating the panel could critics say that the governor's office is misinterpreting the ruling. it is not clear if he has made his own takes for a brand-new commission or is leading up the task to the department of environmental quality. john: it seems the turkeys are

sunny skies all they day long. 72 this afternoon in smithville. 72 in lillington and 73 in fayetteville. raeford makes it up to 73 today. you will stay in the 60's to the north and south. tonight, temperatures fall back into the 40's for the lows with clouds building and. given the clouds mean and warmer overnight, we will see cooler air filling in. the first alert seven-day forecast powered by accuweather shows 58 and sunshine with the clouds increasing as we go through the day tomorrow. sunday is the first day of spring. 49 degrees. sunday night into monday, the rain shuts off, but we will see overnight lows with 34 on sunday and 31 monday into tuesday. that is why they are looking at frost advisory's and freeze watches and warnings as we going to the start of next week. we will have to keep an eye on that.
