again, only warming four to six degrees from where we are right now. our model keeps us in the 40's through the afternoon. still some chance of showers or drizzle as we go through the afternoon. a better chance of a bona fide showser tonight after midnight. more coming up. caitlin: thank you, steve. happening right now a durham intersection is closed after a water main break. this is the scene attica nalstreet. you can see the water on the road there. authorities are saying it is best to avoid the intersection if you can. breaking news out of fayetteville this morning. a driver is in serious condition after crashing into a utility pole on rammy street near hillsborough street. the driver ran off the road and end up being pinned inside of the vehicle. the southbound lanes have been traffic. in fayetteville, now, this morning, police are investigating a deadly shooting. officers were called to the 400 block of lands end road just before midnight.

was caught on camera including two americans and dozens other wounded. this makes the sixth suicide bombing in turkey in the past year. in iraq, a u.s. marine killed by enemy fire. isis fired two rockets onto a base where american troops were stationed. the service members name has not been released. here at home, two people have been arrested in a six-year-old murder case that started as a love triangle and ended with one man dead. denise green and anthony hern -- hernandez are facing charges. the three worked together at goodyear. and hernandez and ms. green were having an appear. detectives charged hernandez in the case, but dismissed it

steve: good morning, everyone. happy spring. doesn't feel like it though. look at the clouds out there right now. one of the days where temperatures struggle to get out of the mid-40's. a chilly north breeze will be with us. baseball season around the corner. mud cuts. the chilly north breeze will be with us all day today. high temperatures will be well below the average of 65. 38 right now in oxford, 40 at r.d.u., 43 in irwin. a sprinkle and a spotty shower, i cannot rule it out. a better chance this evening. and temperatures in the early afternoon the lower to middle 40's. what a chilly day today. rain along the coast. a cloudy day. an upper level disturbance

father showed up with a struggle and he was shot. angel bradford than ber -- barricaded herself inside of their apartment. and neighbors heard a commotion. >> my dog jumped up. i thought she had to go out. i was walking her and i -- i knew something happened. reporter: bradford came out peacefully. her father went to the hospital. we're trying to get an update on his injuries. an update, we know the names of the victim of the murder suicide in fayetteville. detectives are saying 60-year-old wages shot and killed his wife, gloria before turning the gun on himself, this happened before 10:00 on friday night on jones street. police were called to that address for a well-being check and arrive and found the couple dead in their home. a legal battle is blowing after

the paris caitlin, good morning, welcome back. 9:15. here is what is making headlines so far this sunday. cubans are busy sprucing up havana in anticipation of what president barack obama's arrival today. this serves as a symbol of the relationship that u.s. and cuba are forging after a half century of cold war tensions. in durham this morning the intersection attica nalstreet is closed right now because of a water main break. authorities are advising you to avoid the intersection if at all possible. and spring here. the season officially began at 12:30 this morning.

it is a long ways off. we will keep an eye on it. a cold sunday today. highs in the 40's, spotty shower and drizzle is possible. a better chance of that happening tonight. shor lived cold spell. slow warming trend, 70's by midweek and then mid to upper 70's by thursday. and patchy frost. i think outlying areas close to freezing tomorrow morning and especially tuesday morning. no major hard freeze coming our way. right now we're seeing cloudy skies at terminal two, 40 degrees. a little bit of precipitation since midnight. 30's in the northern counties. 40 at r.d.u., and 44 in fayetteville. the recent days, so warm. yesterday a little bit below average, but look at all of the -- we had well above-average and temperatures in the 70's to near 80 degrees. one day 86. get out in the garden and plant flowers. the latest everybody freeze between april 1st and 11th for most of the viewing areas.

to be safe. make sure that the flowers are safe. cloudy skies around now. the showers moving away. the upper level low back here will move overhead tonight and squeeze out another shower and get the coastal low developing and bring snow to philadelphia, one to three, and the same thing in new york and around boston three to six inches of snow is a possibility with the late season nor'easter up the coast. and the upper level low is closer to us, watch showers start to develop, mid-evening, 7:30, spotty showers. as you go to bed, it could be damp out there. and early tomorrow morning i would not be surprised today start out damp with showers and then things start to clear out from west to east. we will get back to sunshine as the low races up to the north and east. that chilly northwest breeze with us.

it is caitlin: good morning. welcome back. tax day just about a month away. if you still need to file there is free help available. from churches to community centers in today's money-saver report, amber rupinta explains how you can find tax volunteers ready to help your time your returns for no fee. amber: tax day is april 18th this year, a month away, it is very busy at the community center in cary where returns are being done for free.

filing with this free service, which is part of the aarp's tax aid program. a program that is actually open to anyone regardless of your age. >> we can handle a lot of different returns. >> at this site, we have about half of our people are actually c.p.a. reporter: this location here in cary is one of several hundred across the country offering free tax help through aarp. >> it is a nationwide program, on the order of 12 different locations here in this district. amber: and not just the aarp offering free help, the i.r.s. has a volunteer program offering free tax help for people making $54,000 or less as well as a tax counseling for the elderly program. many are run by trained volunteers. >> we have two people look at every return. one that prepares it and one reviews it.

york. caitlin: back here at home, durham police are investigating after a man was hit at a bus stop. this happened on club boulevard after 6:00. the man ran across the street trying to catch a bus, and turned around and was hit. his injuries are not life-threatening. firefighters are working to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a home in raleigh. this is the scene on time court off of creedmoor road. the homeowner says it started in the garage and then spread to the rest of the house. luckily no one was hurt. a woman is in critical condition this morning and authorities are investigating a possible meth lab. authorities in clayton are saying the woman showed up at the hospital yesterday after drinking something that might have had toxic chemicals in it. they went to their home to investigate, and johnston county deputies investigating what they that was a meth lab. the house was taped off and f.b.i. called in. no charges have been filed.

you yesterday morning. a bullet hole where akiel denkins was killed is not related to the shooting. that the official word from the wake county district attorney. a police officer shot and killed akiel dengcons serving a warrant. the officer said that he filed in self-defense. the da expects the report will be wrapped up next week. of course, we will have the details for you, stay tuned on-air and on-line. they marched in memory of those who died behind bars. family and friends of mccaine and mcmurray held a memorial walk to honor those who died in the durham county jail. this is two months, mccaine's death, and mcmurray died a year before. their families are still asking for answers and claim the deaths were due to medical neglect by the jail. >> died inside of the jail. this is the one year anniversary.

the area know. caitlin: another man, bennett died within the past year while in custody. but the circumstances on his death have not been released. 10 people have died in custody of the durham county jail. a weekend long pet adoption drive for hundreds of rescued cats and dogs was a big success it ended one day early. abc11 eyewitness news together has been following the story of these animals rescued from horrible conditions at a shelter in home county. they were put up for adoption in stanford and supposed to be continued through today, but because of the response, the fair ended yesterday. all of theets ended up find forever homes. there are still dogs and cats not part of that drive and along with farm animals. the aspca is saying the animals have been placed at other shelters across the country. the mayors of raleigh and durham put on their masks this weekend to help kids get a college education. the mayors masked ball at the

money for historically black colleges and universities. 500 business, civic and education leaders were there. and joel brown was master of ceremonies. r&b group, tony, tony, tony was the headliner. people at the ball said it was fun, and ensuring a quality education. >> i'm a graduate of acc school. and i know the value of having providing funding. if you didn't have such has u.n.c. a lot of kids would not be there. >> we do this, because there is so many wonderful and generous people that will come together and have a lot of fun and dig deep in their pockets. caitlin: the goal was to raise $600,000, which will go to support students at shaw and st. aug. you shoed up, thanks to our abc11 eyewitness news march

day of spring. doesn't feel like it. cloudy skies. r.d.u., a few hundreds of an inch of precipitation since midnight. the band of showers moved through. 30's in the northern counties and 40's elsewhere. don't expect the numbers to move that much. in the 40's throughout the day. stepping outside expect a lot of clouds. there could be a spotty shower and drizzle, but the chances are pretty low during the daytime hours. by the evening the chances will be ramping up, the upper level low will be springing overhead giving us a showers. and rain along the coast right now. a coastal low developing and bring snow to the northeast, not for us. cold today, chilly tomorrow with the breeze out of the northwest. it will feel like the 40's. winter jackets both days. more seasonal temperature on tuesday. and then back to the 70's on wednesday. the warmest day will be thursday. and high temperatures flirting with 80 in a few spots. we can officially call it spring.

finding a match. that includes carrie and her husband who have a three-week-old son, camden. >> he was diagnosed with a very rare disease. it is life-threatening, it is a cell disease, your cells attack each other. and damages your brain, liver and bone marrow. reporter: born premature, he is fighting to get healthy enough for a bone marrow transplant, at some point his family hopes to have found a match. >> it is very important. reporter: abc11 eyewitness news and our partners helped to sign people up for our be the match registry. a pain free process that involve as swab of the cheek to enter you into a global database. one part of the day was to encourage people of different ethnicities to sign up. some are underrepresented. reporter: this caused ann to come out on behalf of her brother, joe.

along in fayetteville this morning. this is on the a little bit of ramsey street near hillsborough street down to one lane after a driver crashed thank utility pole. the driver is in serious condition at the hospital. protesters continue following donald trump long his campaign stops. in phoenix and tucson yesterday, protesters tried to intervene. one man at the tucson rally was punched by a donald trump supporter being escorted out. the top suspect from last year's pairing attacks is starting a legal fight against his extradition from belgium to france. the frapresident and the families of 130 victims all want him to stand trial there. the 26-year-old has been officially charged with participation in paris' murder. and this morning. forecasters are predicting less snow has the weekend storm bears down on the northeast. areas could see several inches of snow on the first day of spring.

including boston and cape cod and rhode island could see four to eight inches of snow today. philadelphia and new york could get one to two inches. the northeast has had a relatively tame winter though so far this year. the big spring product launch for apple is expected to be more of a small affair. the tech company will have the annual news conference tomorrow. it will be unveiling a smaller version of the iphone and ipad pro. so there is a guest list this will for this will be smaller. it will be at apple's campus that holds fewer people. the big announcement is for 1:00 tomorrow. cities across the globe for this year's about our celebration. in new york city, and you're looking at video from argentina. this is a global movement dedicated to protecting the planet and highlighting the effects of climate change. there you go.

caitlin: thanks, caitlin: well, duke is still alive in the ncaa tournament advancing to the sweet 16 with a win over yale yesterday, it was not an easy one. joe mazur with more from province. joe: march madness to the nth degree. duke built a 27-point lead against yale and then by the time it takes to say we're going done. the blue devils blistered the nets in the first half, knocking down nine threes. grayson allen moving the charge with 22 of his 29 points in that first half. yale mounting a furious comeback, fueled by 15-0 run, the bulldogs eventually getting the lead down the three in the match, duke in full implosion mode. ingram takes over down the stretch.

with assault with a deadly woman. the shooting led to an a part hour's long standoff. officers were called because of a fight between bradford and her boyfriend. and her father showed up, there was a struggle and he ended up being shot snow. and angel bradford barricaded herself inside of the apartment. neighbors could hear the commotion. >> my dog jumped up, because she heard something. i thought she had to go out. i was walking her and saw the tape. i knew something happened. reporter: bradford came out peacefully. her father was sent to the hospital. we are trying to get an update on his injuries. an update on the names of the victims from the murder-suicide in fayetteville. 60-year-old rains shot and killed his wife, gloria and turned the gun on himself. this happened before 10:00 on friday night on jones street. police were called to that

i have a friend from chicago thad goes here. so go ginger. steve: yeah. on the tuesday today. all right. a bronco, the denver fan. all right. let's get to it, what is going on, overall it will feel like a winter day today. cloudy skies, mainly drizzle here and there, the rain that we had last night is moving on out for now. active weather days, the next one is friday when a front comes our way, we could get showers around, a cold day today, the temperatures in the 4's. maybe a spotty shower and drizzle, a better chance of that comes in tonight when the upper low moves overhead half short-lived cold spell. and a warping trend with us. 70's by midweek. and then back to the upper 70's on thursday. patches of frost are possible tonight and tomorrow morning as we go into, i'm sorry. tuesday morning our best opportunity of probably getting a little bit of patchy frost around. if you planted the flowers cover them up. not so much tonight, but tomorrow night.

a breeze around two. at time the breeze is up, and the wind chills in the low 30's in the northern counties, the temperatures in the upper 30's right now. 40 at r.d.u., and 44 in fayetteville and clinton. we had that cell of very warm temperatures in the 70's and even 80's. so really fell like you wanted to get out and do planting and things of that nature. now we're getting colder again. and april 1st through the 11th is the average last freeze. so maybe hold off on planting the flowers just a little bit longer. cloudy skies around for now. the upper level low will move out and squeeze out a few more showers and help the development of the coastal low that will bring one to three inches of snow to new york, and philadelphia. and three to six inches of snow around boston. if you have travel plans keep that in mind. and meantime, cloudy for most of the day today. even though the evening a drizzle or spotta shower is possible.

severe she cannot play outside. she rode an adaptive bike at therapy. >> it was so -- awesome, you could see the joy on her face. anna: adjusted bikes can have two wheels in the back for ballon. and a special drive to make it easier to pedal and ways to keep someone secure in the seat with handles and steering. but they cost more than $1,000, so friendship circle started a contest to raise money for adaptative bikes and give them away. all of the kids in the triangle could get a bike if they get enough votes and donations. like dave would cerebral palsy. and daniel who is not walk on his own. a volt from you and a bike can give these kids so much.
