ohio and nowth carolina. donald trump waking up happy this morning. the billionaire claimed victories in florida, illinois, north carolina. the only state he did not win in, ohio. he finished second to governor johoh kasich. >> let's back up and come back here to florida, a closerook at the florida republican primaries. trump with a commanding victory over senator marco rubio in his home state. that led rubio to suspend his campaign. he announced that early yesterday evening. julia bagg is live in the studio. it was a big night for donald trump for a lot of reasons. when you stop and think about it, it was an even bigger night for hillary clinton. >> certainly, eric, she's the one that got all that separation. she is jubilant, confident, the apparent winn of a clean sweep. the one race that bernie sanders is really hanging his hat on is ohio. he thought he could bag that like he did michigan. it did not happen. even in the races too close to call, it looks like clinton is

florida was the end of the line for senator marco rubio. rubio suspending his campaign nearly a year after it started. nbc 6 reporter erika glover is live at the freedom tower in downtown miami. what is he telling supporters this morning? >> ggod morning, sheli. i can tell you after a second place finish to donald trump, senator marco rubio suspended his campaign. 172 is the numberof delegates that senator marco rubio has right now. thoseill stay with him. that's because he suspended his campaign. he did not abandon his campaign. so if people still vote for him or have already cast ballots in upcoming primary states, he'll add to that number, but it shouldn't be very sisinificant. during tuesday's concession speech, rubio thanked all his supporters for everything and congratulated donald trump on his big victory in florida. he talked about his parents who

we mentioned john kasich won his home state of ohio. here is closer look at the numbers. kasich brought in 40% of the vote. the win is the first for him and it does make it harder for trump to win the nomination outright. trump now has to win 60% of the remaining delegates to go uncontested into the convention. it turned out to be a tough night for bernie sanders getting shut out on the democratic side. nbc's dan krauth reports this morning from wynwood. >> there were a lot of boos inside campaign headquarters every time clinton won a state. there was a lot of cheering from supporters of bernie sanders. they sea despite last night's big loss, they're stiti optimistic about the future. have a listen to what supporters and senator sanders have to say. >> we have a lot of delegates out there. this is just getting started. >> we're going to create an economy that works for all of

6:19 on your wednesday morning. new for you this morning, police take down two suuects who were on the run. the duo caught and cussed a busy south florida street in a neighborhood you're looking at right now. they're accused of being involved in a string of car burglaries. undercover detectives conducting surveillance in kendall spotted the man and woman. the woman ran and hid inside a walgreens. the man ran as well, but both were taken into custody. >> a bso bailiff is off the job accused of attempted murder and sexual battery. police say 45-year-old kendrick busby attacked a prostitute last month near a valero gas station in liberty city. the victim said that busby picked her up and asked for money up front. she said instead of grabbing his wallet, he reached bk and pulled out a knife and stabbed her a couple times. the woman taken to the hospital right away.

savor the sunshine another beautiful forecast coming midweek, your wednesday morning should be filled with sunshine. less in the way of cloud cover and certainly less in the way of fog. that doesn't mean there's none out there. it's mainly across southwest miami-dade. another dry day for us. changes coming for the weekend. all is quiet as we look into

let's take another vantage point here and adjust and look into -- well, it turns out to be a very similar shot here. i wanted to@ show you the clouds. they've been in and out, flirting with our skyline here first thing this morning. most of the fog is contained down to west kendall, florida city and homestead areawhere the visibility is again reporting minute by minute, one to three m mles of visibility. that's all tucked away down acrososthat portion of the county. we move into at least the twcounty area, visibility looks pretty good, pretty decent here, light winds overnight and with the winds coming offshore, that's driving the temperatures down into the upper 60s and lower 70s. 71 in pembroke.s, 72 in opa-locka, 72 also in miami. we'll level temperatures out around 70 or so. passing clouds above that i was showing you in our first alert cameras, not yielding any precipitation. i think we have a lot of sunshine in today's forecast, even tomorrow and through friday.

kristen welker is in miami. >> reporter: last night was a game-changer. secretary clinton is waking up this morning as a strong democratic front-runner after that defeat in michiga last week, she proved last night she can compete in every corner of the country. that dealt a major blow to bernie sanders. his path to the nomination got tougher. the clinton campaign was expecting to win florida, expectingto win north carolina. she did that and did that convincingly. ohio looked a lot more competitive and she pull a off double-digit win there. the fact she was able to win missouri illinois, it does two things. it gives her a lot of momentum and it gives the optics again that she is going to be tough to beat. the more imporornt thing for the clinton campaign is the math. it's going to be very difficict for senator sanders to catch up to her. secretary clinton has virtually put this race out of reach. still senator sanders vowing to

line at 954-493-tips. we continue to follow breaking news out of north korea. the american student arrested back in january for trying to steal a propaganda banner has been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in proiz on. north korea's highest court convicted him after a one-hour trial earlier this morning. charges against the university of virginia student claim the cia encouraged him to steel the poster. before his trial, he told reporters he wanted the banner as a trophy for his friend's mother. howeve i should mention that prisoners often are forced to lie on camera and later recant their stories. here is something a lot of people are talking about. if you think your commute is hectic in south florida, be than rgful you're not in d.c. a chaotic commute without the metro system, the second largest transit system in the nation. it is going to be closed for 29 hours.

previous cases. all four contracted the virus while the were traveling and came back. as reported, there are indications this virus can cause birth defects if a pregnant women is infected with it. starting today, a new seees of travel and commerce relations with cuba will take effect. the move will allow americans to travel to cuba on their own, not in a group. they still haveve to fill out a form saying the trip is for educational purposes. thth changes will expand access to u.s. financial institutions and the u.s. dollar from the island nation. basically that means cuban athletes, artists, performers will now be able to get paid in dollars while working in the u.s. the ship comes less than a week before the president makes an historic trip to the island nation. also going to cuba is miami beach mayor. >> not as much about government, not about politics, more about the people in cuba. clearly clearly i believe we midwest
