is so important to them. >> this is the fox 13 6:00 news. good evening, i'm cynthia smoot in for kelly ring. i'm mark wilson here on this monday. now at 6:00 the clean up, the heartbreak and stories of survival. this is after two devastating tornadoes touched down overnight in sarasota county. we start our coverage with kimberly kuizon south of sarasota key where homes are bearing the scars of the storm. >> reporter: we're here at bay winds now only the bay separates this from siesta key. another clean up is under way. >> it is one of those things that you cannot predict and boom, it's there. >> reporter: the tornado shook the condos. when tom woke up the roof was gone. >> you cannot occupy it t was condemned. >> he rents here every year now

>> we had a month here we got half in. >> the crew of 48 started the clean up effort. >> the water damage is the main thing. >> railings were ripped off and debris severery where. it produced winds of 130 miles per hour. >> there are nails. >> inside of the condo as skylight was formed, the damage will not be simple. >> the construction from start to end we're talking months. >> it is important that it is done right so people will not run into future problems. >> it is better to mitigate the problems and to put us in a position where we don't have fungal growth, we get the environments on the interior of the inter units stabilize. he is hopeful the repairs will go smoothly. he will be back next smoothly. >> it's a year i hope it is. >> when i spoke with the clean up company the condos by the water should be ready by the end of the week.

ripped off that will take several months for them to repair. all residents have relocated. kimberly kuizon in sarasota county. now the tornado damaged a home on bay winds lane leaving a woman trapped on the second floor of the home and lot of debris. her daughter said it took nearly two hours to dig her mom out and get her out. >> her bedroom is in the back of the house and sliding glass doors. and when she heard the wind shaking, she got up to come to the front bedroom but the tornado hit then and lifted the roof and collapsed. she was buried in the middle there. >> she will be okay but the family cannot believe what a close call and the damage there is to the house. it is a total loss and have to be dorn down. they will not rebuild since it was for sale. the new owners will have a new lot to build what they want.

where there is a lot of damage in this rural neighborhood. one person found a roof on her land and a boat that was blown on to her property. >> that came from a mobile home that was destroyed. the owners were killed. and steven wilson died during the tornado, his wife died of a heart attack on the to the hospital -- on the way to the hospital. their son and four children were okay. and steven and his sons are out of the hospital his daughter and the other girl are stiff in the hospital recovering but are stable. are you seeing the damage as the neighbors wondering how they made it out alive. >> the first impression thank god my parents are okay. it was close to their home. we feel fortunate and blessed that lives were spared because it was close. >> right now family and friends searching for what is left of

first chicago it was 6 threes this afternoon and right on the lake shore you get that sea smoke. that's cold air flowing across. across the warm waters it has not been that cold yet. that's what you get the sea smoke and gets cold can you get frozen sea smoke. particles of ice. that's a wild. let's go back to the top of sky tower, this is the view this afternoon. watch the highlights come in. ultimately it led to a good sun set. you will see it develop right about here. that's good. and that was the view from the top of sky tower looking to the west. and you get the jet stream in some places blowing at 110 knots blowing from west to east. that brings with it rapid changes and the position of the jet can you get the clouds. cold air is pouring into the

couple of days can you see the extent of the jet. it is way out into the pacific and out to near hawaii and with that jet in place you start throwing some energy rolling away from the west. that is tending to make it twist and turn strong winds will do that. they are the same mechanism that produces tornadoes in the plains states in the spring. we get a taste of that during our el nino winters, i started talking about this in june we saw this coming. and after a warm december now we're in the midst of the pattern. wetter than normal. unsettled every few days. it goes up, the threat, in the early morning hours. another front will head our way on friday. i'll tell you this. i appreciate the notes and the messages the response on the sky tower app has been great.

there is a bill of rights. a homeowner claims bill of rights. three things to know about that. first when you file a claim are you due a notice they are working on it. send you a notice we're working on it. that's in 14 dies of filing. within 30 are you supposed to get a decision if they pay it. deny it or investigate it. now that you have to request in writing. the third part you should get. you should get a decision. that you're going to get paid. get that payment within 90 days. that's in the law. now the one thing about that. if there is any part of that claim that's in dispute, it will go past 90 days and tough go back and forth. that goes back to the smartphone and that you had a conversation with the agent so there are no surprises. the bill of rights is great. do not commit that to memory in the event there is a problem i'll be here.
