>> thanks for joining us, everybody. up first tonight, a major shake-up at the pinellas county sheriffs office. the sheriff says seven deputy recruits cheated during training. and now they and a training deputy accused of helping them are out of work. we go live to the sheriffs office tonight. take us through what happened here? >> reporter: well, the sheriff says that this group of recruits got a copy of the written and oral examine ahead of time. and they almost got away with this. but during the testing, one of the trainers noticed that one of the recruit's answers seemed so perfect that it seemed like they got the answers ahead. >> they need to be fired because they are unethical people. >> reporter: a heated county sheriff is not mincing words about the recruits he just kicked out of the department. >> they are not going to work for the pinellas county sheriffs office. >> reporter: the sheriff says

was up to its exam phase of train being. potential deputies are tested on the basics of law enforcement and the agency policy. >> they are not hard tests. >> reporter: but one recruit, darrell cook, couldn't resist the easy way. he turned to a current pinellas deputy, eric fiddle, a friend and in a text message exchange, cook asked to, quote, get some of the study material. he said he would give him the actual exam. but he said please do not share or show them, i don't want to be in an i.a., an internal affairs investigation. terry says several recruits turned it down, but seven, including cook, accepted it. they and biddle are out of a job. >> very hurt by it. >> reporter: the sheriff says this is the first time it's ever happened. and he hopes this is the last. >> it shows a lack of moral compass. it shows their lack of ethics.

>> we have an update on a double murder in manatee county. wayne cummings has been charged in the deaths of carl tuxford and his girlfriend jordan finland. he has been in jail since last week when he was charged with two counsels of armed kidnapping in the case. according to an arrest report, deputies received information cummings. and deputies say cummings told his cousin that they were going to beat finland up and kill duxford. >> new at 10:00, a lakeland family was hit by burglars and thetches and took something absolutely irreplaceable. they took the family dog. a one-year-old yorkie. three young men broke into the home, the 3200 block of pebble brook boulevard and stole electronics, food and the family dog. the family says they can replace the other things, but not the dog. >> that's pretty rough, especially worse on the kids.

later found and taken into custody. jonathan mendoza pena was killed. the driver of the nissan was not badly hurt. but alcohol is believed to be a factor. >> florida state has settled a lawsuit by a woman who claimed that winsman sexually assaulted him as a quarterback in 2012. she said he raped her in his apartment, after they met in a bar. winston denied this, saying it was consensual. prosecutors did not press charges for lack of evidence. hintsman filed a separate lawsuit, saying the school did not do anything. today, fsu reached a $950,000 settlement. $250,000 will go to hintsman and her attorneys will get the rest. >> this is a citrus leaf with funny markings on it. looks like an alien. what made them could be the key

couple of weeks or so? go to my facebook page and down load that. seized down quite a bit today. rough over the weekend. and the blues continue. temperatures today only in the mid 60s. we start warming up dramatically. the cold high has shifted east of us. we are on the back side. that means tomorrow, the mercury gets into the 70s with occasional high clouds. then we watch and wait for the arrival of this cold front that's going to move our way. it's a complicate the forecast. it is not clear cut. but the bottom line is, we are going to see a spell of showers and thundershowers wednesday morning, probably into thursday with at least a round or two of severe weather. already, on the water vapor imagery. here comes the subtropical jet, whipping in from the west and southwest.

then by wednesday, the front drapes itself over the state. we see bands of energy rolling along that front. maybe some heavy rain early wednesday. could be a break moves along the front. that goes by and then we turn cooler. it's amazing how we go from a completely dry winter air mass to literally a pure tropical air mass in just 48 hours. and that front goes by and then we turn cooler and dryer and i think, pretty nice for the week en. so tonight, patchy fog. otherwise mostly moonlit. we are down to 50. high clouds around tomorrow, mild, low 70s. on wednesday, not so good. showers and thundershowers, some could be strong. rough, near 70. then we may last into thursday with showers and thundershowers and we clear up. this early juncture. the weekend looks good. temperatures in the 60 sdz. nighttime lows about 45 to 50. back to you. >> thank you so much.

>> developing tonight, in california, the search is on right now for these three prisoners who broke out of a maximum security jail in santa ana. they cut through thick steel bars and dug through a maintenance tunnel. and the guards noticed they were missing about 9:00 on friday night.

>> these are three very, very dangerous inmates that we are looking for. >> reporter: vietnamese gang members, charged with attempted murder and an alleged killer, both escaped with a man who was accused of kidnapping and cutting off the anatomy of a man he believed had money. >> put fire to his body, he also poured bleach all over him and he dumplinged the victim in the desert and left him alone to die. fortunately, he did not. >> reporter: after weeks of planning, they escaped on friday from this maximum security jail. >> it appears to be a very sophisticated operation where they were allowed to go through security assess points and had some tools that aloud them to do that. >> reporter: police believe the men used a hack saw to cult through this metal screen and half-inch steel bars to enter the ventilation system where they made their way to the roof,
