we're on the west side of u.s. 19 near parakeet road. these are rural roads. a very rural area of her dan know county. take a look. you can see that smoldering still in the distance. but according to the forest service this is about 90% could be 90% contained. good news there. it did jump u.s. 19 and is on both sides of the road. take a look at video. at one point, the fire was just 100 feet from several homes. we're told some people in the homes did choose to evacuate. there weren't mandatory evacuations. but they did choose to evacuate. the florida fire service say theying did cut lines to prevent any any than 100 feet. we're told those people were allowed to go back to their homes right now and they are looking into how this started.

in the area or anything like that. no lightning. so at this point thinking the fire was started by man. that is something that the fire service is looking into. right now this fire is 90% contained. they have about 15 units between hernando county fire rescue and the florida fire service. we're gonna be talking to some of those homeowners, also to the forest service. there is a concern that u.s. 19 will remain smoky throughout the night. right now it's open. but there could be closures later on. we'll be monitoring this and have the latest at 10:00. >> we know you will. also developing, deputies in hillsborough develop get death of developing the death of a man. authorities have not released much information. we're told they found that body at the park at aberdeen apartments on sycamore court shortly after 5:00 this morning.

about two dozen parents and kids held a rally calling for an increase in wages. state representative victor torres is sponsoring legislation in the florida house that would create a $15 per hour minimum wage for all workers in the state. he says it is most important for those working with young children. >> this is their development stages. this is when the trial starts to develop their abcs, these are things that we need to continue. >> the bill has not been heard by any legislative committee. the current wage is $8.0 a per hour. florida fish and wild said more than 100 burmese pythons have been captured and turned in so far as part of the challenge. the goal of the competition is two-fold, to cut down on the

today in tampa, two members of the civil air patrol are service. both recipients of the congressional gold medal helped protect u.s. shipping against german attacks and carried out other vital wartime domestic missions. one of the awards was presented to the family of michael bourn who passed away last year. the other to former cadet mary bernard, who is now 88 years old. for a span of a couple of cold days, it was just perfect. >> gorgeous. >> it really was amazing. you walk outside and look u

junior showed the way with amelia. that's what he calls his car, number 88. he named that after amelia earhart. she was the fastest in the morning running. she topped the starts with 1.94.11, six miles an hour. last year, took two checker and four top finishes. looking pretty good. in the afternoon session, he says he has not been behind a wheel until this week but . tomorrow, the laps count for real wheel as the top speed earns the pole for the daytona 500. >> feels nice to be on top of the board. it all depends on the weather tomorrow. hopefully there's tricks in the bag. some guys are fast there.

71 in sebring. 70 still up in lakeland. here's the setup. satellite and radar showing a cold front continuing to dive southward. you don't see a whole lot of movement. that's because there's no cloud over the state. the wider view, there's no clouds across the southeast united states today. that's how dry things are. we switch this to the water vapor loop and you can see all of this dry air in place. it will help to bring sunshiny at least for the first half of the day. cold temperatures up to the north and 10 below right now in burlington. you look at the windchills for those folks hitting 20, 30 degrees below zero. that's what it will feel like tonight for them. for us, i show you that first so i can show you this. temperatures starting off in the 40s and 30s tomorrow morning. back near 70s's weed towards the afternoon. tomorrow night, not nearly as cold as tonight. temperatures only dipping off in the mid- to upper 50s.
