effect in milwaukee. two nights of rioting have left 11 police officers wounded, 14 people under arrest and several businesses burned. the trouble started on saturday after a police officer shot and killed a black man who allegedly had a gun in his hand and refused to comply with orders. fox 13's chris kato joins us with more. chris. >> reporter: the state of wisconsin is investigating that shooting on saturday. again, though, tonight tensions are very high on the north side leaders are calling for an end to the violence, and so far tonight things have been quiet, especially compared to last night when police officers tried to dodge bricks, bottling, rocks, many other things that were thrown by angry crowds. 11 officers were injured, three squad cars damaged and one was set on fire. the rioters were protesting the police shooting death of 23-year-old sylville smith.

and saturday's shooting was just the spark. >> we have inescapable poverty in the city of milwaukee. milwaukee is like the sixth poorest city in america. you have massive black unemployment. i think it's at 32%. you have a failing k-12 public education system. it's one of the worst in the nation. >> reporter: the wisconsin department of justice is investigating smith's death at the hanlds of that milwaukee officer also black. the police chief says there is body camera incident, and he says it shows that smith had a gun in his hand when he turned toward the officer after the officer had ordered him to stop. smith was allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop at the time. the mayor is actually urging the state to release that body camera video now, which would be against the state's normal operations when it's investigating something like that. now, today the mayor also moved up the citywide sur few for teens from 11:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and expanded it to include
