effect in milwaukee. two nights of rioting have left 11 police officers wounded, 14 people under arrest and several businesses burned. the trouble started on saturday after a police officer shot and killed a black man who allegedly had a gun in his hand and refused to comply with orders. fox 13's chris kato joins us with more. chris. >> reporter: the state of wisconsin is investigating that shooting on saturday. again, though, tonight tensions are very high on the north side leaders are calling for an end to the violence, and so far tonight things have been quiet, especially compared to last night when police officers tried to dodge bricks, bottling, rocks, many other things that were thrown by angry crowds. 11 officers were injured, three squad cars damaged and one was set on fire. the rioters were protesting the police shooting death of 23-year-old sylville smith.

and saturday's shooting was just the spark. >> we have inescapable poverty in the city of milwaukee. milwaukee is like the sixth poorest city in america. you have massive black unemployment. i think it's at 32%. you have a failing k-12 public education system. it's one of the worst in the nation. >> reporter: the wisconsin department of justice is investigating smith's death at the hanlds of that milwaukee officer also black. the police chief says there is body camera incident, and he says it shows that smith had a gun in his hand when he turned toward the officer after the officer had ordered him to stop. smith was allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop at the time. the mayor is actually urging the state to release that body camera video now, which would be against the state's normal operations when it's investigating something like that. now, today the mayor also moved up the citywide sur few for teens from 11:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and expanded it to include

was 16. he's calling on parents, guardians and community leaders to keep the young people off the streets tonight. >> mark: thanks very much. new at 10:00 after a three-year battle over homelessness in st. pete, a federal appellate court sided with the city today. it involves a homeless advocate arrested for trespassing at williams park in 2013. police arrested him for interfering with the arrest of a man who had a warrant. the federal appeals court ruled today his first amendment rights. he's a vocal critic of how police deal with the homeless. wright says it's not over, though. he plans to appeal to the u.s. supreme court. so as you know, it's election season. the primaries coming up august 30th, but early voting started today in hillsborough county. a slew of candidates are fighting in local races and democrats and republicans will decide if marco rubio will hold onto his senate seat. we get a first indication of

we're at the county center in downtown tampa. this is one of the most cloesly watched elections in many years. what are voters saying so far? >> reporter: well, mark, the energy from the presidential race appears to be filtering down to the senate and state and local races that we have going on. turnout is up significantly we can tell you during this first day of early voting, and most people we spoke to have clear-cut convictions on who they want to carry the mantle for their party. the candidates are counting on die-hard party faithful to get them to november. >> i supported who the president supported, actually. >> i voted for carlos. i'll tell you that. >> i went with greyson. >> rubio, yeah. >> reporter: this time around more are weighing in on the first day of early voting in 2012, 1256 went to the polls in hillsborough county. in 2014 that number was 1517.

imagine for a second if that sat over us instead of over louisiana? it wasn't a named storm, but i tell you, it should have been. it actually developed over the marshes of louisiana and kind of feeding on all that moisture. it was incredible. today we had an active day with storms very late in the day primarily along the immediate west coast. not much of a see breeze today. look at this. we put it into motion. storms near lakeland early in the day. everything moving to the west-northwest and jumping over to the coastline. the storms were heavy at 4:00 and moved off the coast and moved away. it left a fantastic sky. here's a look at some of the storms as they moved over sarasota. this is another one of our summers of shelf clouds series from sarasota. that's pretty ominous. a couple of rounds of rain in sarasota, and then this in south

earlier. sarasota is 79, punta gorda has an 81. we become clear and sticky tonight. then tomorrow just another day with a string of afternoon storms between 4:00 and 8:00. they die down. i think they're back again on wednesday into thursday. this is just classic, you know, august weather. nothing unusual. the rain chances between 40% and 50% with minor variations day by day. no fronts heading our way at all and no upper level lows to give us more 50% rain chance primarily i-75 west, 40% moving east. there is a pretty healthy tropical wave way out on the coast of africa. i think it will probably develop. i think this could be a fish storm, meaning it stays over water. the models have it moving west-northwest. once a storm heads this way,

both were because of mosquito bites, and that brings the total number in that area of local transmissions to 30 in our state. there are 28 new travel-related cases today including one in hillsborough and one in polk county. meanwhile, in sarasota county a blood bank is stepping up the fight against zika trying to help everybody. the suncoast community's blood bank is using some new technology. they call it the intercept blood system. it works by flushing out blood platelets, and they're one of just a few banks in the bay area using this technology. >> here we have a system in place that's able to help us really make the blood supply safer. >> kelly: this machine will one day be used to help cancer and burn patients, and as of now, though, there's no technology to wipe out zika from regular donated blood. >> mark: tonight a state of emergency in california because of two major wildfires burning in the central and northern

at least 4,000 people are warned to evacuate. look at these flames. this video is something else. they have forced thousands of people from their homes. firefighters say more thn 200 homes have been ravaged. more than 4,000 acres are scorched and the fire is 5% contained. officials say strong winds are helping to fuel the flames as well. one fire is just 90 miles north of san francisco. >> in a matter of 20 or 30 minutes, you look around you, and there's black smoke and 12 different spots around you. >> you can see the flames and the smoke as we were leaving. >> the fire is burning in the same area hit by another destructive wildfire last september. it killed four people and destroyed more than 1300 homes. 5% contained. that's going to be something to watch in the next couple of days. >> kelly: yes, it is. they have a lot of work to do. the olympic games have been an emotional roller coaster for one family in florida. >> mark: have you heard about

you pull it on them to hoard you pull it out. as it starts to get later we should see some movement. they'll move off the bank. they're usually up in that grass up on the banks during the daytime, and they will move out. you'll watch them and their heads come up and they move out. they come out to feed at night. the biggest one so far is 10 1/2 feet. they range from 8 1/2 to 10 1/2 in that range. every foot after they alm double in size, a 10-foot is almost twice the size of a 9-foot and up the same way. we end up with 35 to 40 pounds off a decent 8-foot gator of clean, ready to process meat. they have a fish taste to them, nd it depends on how you take care of the meat. when it's cut up and cubed up it's a firm meat like beef or pork. the closest thing is probably

record. watch this. ? and the rocket's red glare ? ? the bombs bursting in air ? ? >> kelly: isn't she something? on friday during this ball game she completed a wild journey singing 80 national anthems in 80 countries. the whole tour took her nine months. of course, it meant learning national anthems in 41 different languages, and here's what she told a reporter about that challenge. >> it takes a lot of practice to memorize them and sing them. a lot of the time i got people native to the country to help me with the national anthem. to help me learn it and pronounce it right. >> kelly: that's fantastic. she's capri everett. she sang the anthems to raise money for sos children's villages. it's an organization helping orphan children in 134 countries. good for her.
