returning to the zika-infested nabdzs. neighborhoods. we begin with a news alert in tampa where a crash on a busy highway tonight hilled a bicyclist. it happened tonight, and a lot of activity still ther a 21-year-old man on that bicycle was hit and killed. you see the bike there. two vehicles were involved in this. at least one person that we talked to there familiar with the area says she's really not surprised that something l this happened. >> this section is extremely dangerous, obviously. people drive up and down 50 to 60 miles per hour if not faster. >> we don't know what led up to the crash. obviously, an investigation is still taking place right now.

troopers haven't released the name of the bicyclist killed, t it was a 21-year-old man. nor mabrey are still closed at landbright street. avoid that area if possible. new at 11:00, they're a life saving for people with allergies, but some people can't afford the epipens anymore. the price skyrocketed from $100 to $600. so many parents on social media talked about this all weekend. mom trying to bear the extra cost, crystal. >> causes the huge increase? >> the epipen brand dominates the market with little competition, so they can increase their prices by nearly 400%. no f parents who have to stock up their homes, their cars, their kids' schools, they say this is just enough to empty their pockets. it only takes one sting or a

for a child to go into shock. >> i get hives and it's super itchy. >> your face swells up. >> reporter: an allergic reaction so severe an epipen shot must be used to stop the symptoms. just two weeks into the school year, daisy says her 12-year-old daughter's peanut allergy was trickered after tushing a table in her art class where someone ate peanut butter. >> she felt itchy and hot. she went to the >> she couldn't breathe and went straight to the school nurse, who gave her an epipen. >> the nurse saved her life. >> having to use the emergency device created a new problem. she must buy a pricey replacement. the epipen went from $60 in 2007 to $600 in 2016. it's not older people feeling the impact. >> it's mainly parents with because they need more than two. they need two for the

two for something else. so that means six. you take 6 times the cost of these auto injectors and they're very expensive. >> reporter: doctor says parents should not feel obligated to fork over cash, asking for a generic brand auto injector cuts the cost in half. they can make their own. >> they can buy a 1cc vial of epinephrine and a homemade syringe. >> it would need to be replaced every three months. it's a parents areo consider. >> i know so many parents that have the same situation. >> what's even more upsetting for some parents is for the epipen it costs a few dollars to make the pen. tonight they're calling for price gouging into that company. >> we have to stay on top of this and see what happens with lawmakers stepping forward and calling for change here. crystal clark live tonight.

the popular way to meet people. this time a dating app turned deadly for a bay area man. police in auburndale say a man was killed over the weekend after meeting someone on the site plentyoffish. josh cascio has a warning from police now, and it's so many people that use these sites, josh, i guess they need a warning. >> reporter: this shouldn't be a huge shock to anyone. you're still meeting a stranger for the first time, and let's face it, not everybody on the internet is who they say they are. we should know that by unfortunately, that's what 27-year-old adam hillary found out. police say he went on a date with a woman over the weekend, only to wind up dead and robbed. now, four people are under arrest in that case, but it's not the first time we've seen dating sites and apps lead to bad things. so here are a few tips. number one, always do your research on who you meet. google them and check your facebook page and stalk them online for lack of a better term. two, meet in a public place. somewhere a lot of people are

to prison. he used a stranger's information to buy a $100,000suv from a cadillac dealer in clearwater. when he was arrested, investigate rors say he had numerous counterfeit driver's licenses, va i.d.s and credit cards on him. he also has to pay back the money he used on the suv. developing tonight, deputies in pasco and hillsborough counties say professional thieves got away with thois of dollars of belon after breaking into trucks. just yesterday eight trucks burglarized outside the sleep inn and hampton inn in wesley chapel. two weeks ago in tampa somebody broke into 12 vehicles where three guns were stolen. a total of $8800 worth of items taken possibly by the same people. >> i assume they're going to the black market, and they are bein. maybe to pay for a drug habit. maybe to pay for other things.

>> detectives are lking for two men seen in a dark-colored sedan just before the burglaries and have warned hotel chains up and down i-75. it was back to school this morning for students in sarasota county. that's one of the last bay area school districts to let go of summer finally, although it was short for most people. while the students had books and pencils this their backpacks, students in south florida carried something else. bug spray. how about that? there are at least nine schools in or near hot zonesn the miami area. >> presenting a whole new set of challenges. we show you how the schools try to ease fears and keep everybody safe. >> i got off on right now. i'm trying to cover my face. >> reporter: there is no shortage of mosquito repellent at schools in the zika zone. students not taking any chances. >> i'm transferring to classes, and we don't know if we get bit or not.

>> prevention is key. it's not hard to find bug spray. >> i hope that we can cross our fingers and hope for the best. >> that was brian reporting. the state health department reports seven new cases of zika in florida, four in the miami-dade area, but all of them travel-related. with more and more cases popping up, tampa is stepping up the efforts to combat the mosquito population. mayor buckhorn announcing today things called mosquito dunks. they're used to treat abandoned pools, retention ponds and other areas where there's standing water. each dunk can kill off mosquito larvae for 30 days. they don't harm people or animals. so if you have any concerns about standing water or an abandoned property near your home, report that to city code enforcement. i hadn't heard about that before, these dunks. they do a good job. >> little doughnuts for mosquitos, right?

morning low was a ridiculous 80, so it was a steam bath all day. very quiet day today. had a couple little storms trying to pop up around tampa bay. i saw a few near temple terrace and one roamed around downtown this afternoon. there were a few down by arcadia and more down by fort myers and that was it. all we have is showers moving off the southwest coast. temperatures are up there. no rain during the afternoon. it means at 11:00 it's a steam you have 84 tampa, 82 in . pete, 85 in sarasota, 82 in lakeland. mainly warm and dry tonight. now, tomorrow i think more of a northeast wind, a better chance of storms near the coast tomorrow afternoon. then more of that will continue on wednesday, with storms building to the west during the afternoon hours. we start to watch what's happening to our southeast over the weekend.

new tropical storm. the 11:00 advisory is just issued. that will become the hurricane and move across the open atlantic. fiona has about had it. invest 99-l has a 40% chance of development in the next two days. 60% chance in the next five days. the limiting factor in the short term is going to be a lot of dry air ahead of it. it's awfully tough for a wave to develop much, as this much dry air in place. but over time the atmosphere here should moisten up. some of the warmest water on the planet is down over the bahamas in whatever becomes of this will probably track in this general direction. so there's certainly a potential in about four to five days, this being tropical storm hermes. we see what happens down the road. it could get close to our state

like seven to eight days from now. invest 99-l, here's some you can see generally in the direction of our state but as always, you know, this far out, i mean the accuracy rate on these models seven days out is not good. it can curve up the east coast and may not develop at all and could cut across the state. the european model this afternoon had quite the run. it is a developing storm east of miami, and nen moving west across the this is eight days out, so the chances of this verifying exactly pretty, pretty small indeed. something we watch, and the gfs model was picking up on more troufyness, not as much of a ridge over the carolinas. so the development on the gfs model is nothing at all except tuesday night, something town by cuba. so you see the problems we have. you don't get any model consistency, and we still have a solid four to five days to track
