we begin at 11:00 tonight with a news alert out of clear water where a pedestrian has been hit and killed. investigators are at the scene on roosevelt boulevard and more gan street. we're awaiting details on what may have led to the crash. witnesses tell us this is a busy stretch of highway, there was no crosswalk in the area. for now, eastbound lanes on roosevelt are closed so you may want to avoid that area. would you be able to this money is real or fake? a man got fooled by some counterfeit cash. somebody paid him in fake $100 bills after he listed his iphone for sale on a popular app. crystal, those bills look pretty convincing. >>reporter: they really do. they even passed the pin test. now, this seller did pretty much

his gut instinct. the meet up site, burger king. a busy public restaurant with surveillance cameras. mark thought it was the perfect spot to sell his iphone. >>man: it was a safe place, it was still daylight. >>reporter: saturday, he posted a brand new iphone 6 plus. within minutes, a man named joseph was sending him >>man: he wanted to buy it now, right then and there. >>reporter: at the fast food chain off florida avenue in tampa, mark met his perspective buyer but the second he got the crisp $100 bills in hand, he knew something was different. >>man: the color was quite off. it looked real. >>reporter: it was counterfeit money and it some of the signs tampa police are warning people to watch out for. >>man: the subtly of how it feels and the grade of paper and all that.

>>reporter: mark acted on his suspicions, demanding they go inside to the registers to get a money pen. >>man: the money pen distinguished it was real. >>reporter: he noticed later the serial number was the same on any bill. police say be careful who you agree to meet and more importantly where you meet. >>man: if you go to one of our offerses and do the transaction there, i would like to think it's unlik going to try to rip you off in front of police officers. >>reporter: mark says he probably won't be offering up any of his items for sale any time soon. >>man: i already got scammed once before. this put me to the edge not to use it anymore. >>reporter: tampa police are working to get ahold of the surveillance video from inside the restaurant. they're asking anyone who may have information to give them a

it is official now, nontravel related zika has arrived in the bay area. state health officials confirmed a case in pinellas county, they're being vague about how the person may have gotten it. the governor is insisting there is no areas of what he calls active transmission in this area. haley is taking a closer look at how you can protect yourself from the virus. evan is going to explain what it means to have case but not through active transmission. >>reporter: right now it means they have not found more people or more mosquitos that have zika rather than just the person who has been identified as having it and getting it from here. it's a single case from a pattern or a dead end. that's what officials are trying to figure out right now. the governor and state surgeon

woman's steps, testing her relatives, and speaking with her co-workers to find out how it happened. the governor says the only places of active transmission are in south florida. the state says there are 620 cases of zika statewide, 70 of them amongst pregnant women. in tampa bay, there are 52 total cases. >>woman: when we're investigat don't give more specific detail. if we don't find additional cases, there's no increase risk to the public. >>man: we've been able to deal with other mosquito borne viruss. if we're all aggressive in what we do in our lives, we can beat this just like the others. >>reporter: the governor, who held a round table this morning says the area of active transmission in miami has been

to a square half mile. the university of florida is projecting 400 nontravel related cases by the end of the summer. we have received information that the governor is going to be holding a round table in hills boro county with health officials tomorrow morning at 10:00. evan, thanks. we don't know exactly how the pinellas case was contracted or zika is not just a problem in south florida anymore. more than ever, it's critical for people here to take the preventive measures seriously. we're live at tampa general hospital with what doctors are telling pregnant women in this area now. that's got to be a huge concern. >>reporter: yeah, today's announcement definitely hit home with a lot of pregnant women in the tampa bay area. they want to know how this case

they're advising pregnant women to try to stay indoors or screened in areas, wear bug repellant outside, and spray clothing. this advice goes for anyone. zika tests are being offered to pregnant women for free. doctors are currently only testing patients who have travelled to known zika areas. that testing could increase if this becomes an area of known transmission. this advice is especially important to dr. mary cane. she's pregnant herself. >>woman: i've been using decontaining insect repellants and trying to avoid mosquitos but it strikes a little hunger when you think think can actually happen. i think a lot of pregnant women are feeling that way today. >>reporter: even if you're not pregnant, it's still just as important to be careful.

but officials say long sleeves and long pants are a good idea. if you've travelled to a known zika area and are sexually active, consider using condoms for at least 8 weeks. keep checking your yards for standing water. it's not just outside, dr. cane says those zika carrying mosquitos can actually live indoors. those flower pots and vases that you may have that are filled with water, they can be breeding grounds, >> yeah, thank you, haley. this is definitely making all of us look at mosquitos as more than a pest. deputies have released new video of a suspect that car jacked a woman. he had a chain wrapped around his hand and ordered her to get out of the car. just before that happened, the suspect was seen in

now the sheriff's office has released radio calls from the terrifying night, one week aago when a neighbor witnessed the student biting off the victim's face. >>reporter: a martin county deputy sent to a home a week ago monday. >>woman: male stabbed by another male. >>reporter: a few minutes later, the deputy is told the call began as man was beating up a female. >>woman: they advised us the female that was involved is unconscious. >>reporter: the sheriff's office says the 19-year-old attacked them in their home. the first deputy was asked if martin county fire rescue could enter the scene. a taser, a police dog, and several officers couldn't get him under control at first.

temperatures were incredible today, including a 99, an official high in sarasota. broke the record high of 96. 95 today in tampa. showers moving offshore. 99 in sarasota, 90 in st. pete, record tying 95 in tampa, 93 lake land, it's been a tough summer. with the lack of rain mostly, feel like many struggle to get any significant rain. temperatures are hot. temperatures are now cool because of the rain in the 70s and low 80s. we're watching invest 99 l. it may strengthen over the waters of bahamas. florida land fall not going to happen for five or six days. that's not a sure thing. we have to wait and see how the models play out.

hurricane has hit florida since way back in 2005. if memory is right, there's been about 66 hurricanes in the atlantic since wilma hit florida back in october of 2005 and none of those 66 have made land fall in florida. northeast winds across our state. we fly to the southeast, watching just a general area of low pressure, moving over some fairly dry air. this has been a struggle today to get going does not look like it's going to be much. here's the dry air in red. the models do indicate the environment improving for tropical development in a day or two if the storm will kind of get to the northwest -- hopefully it's broken up by the mountains of puerto rico. we'll see about that. there's invest 99 l. it's called an invest because it's being investigated.
