advertised online ended with a polk county man dead and now the sheriff's office is searching for the killer. haley hinds is live with how this all came down. >> reporter: the buyer and seller both agreed meet up here at this family dollar on comby road in lakeland. things went south when the supposed seller tried to steal the item and somewhere in the shuffle jeff lost his life. it was 9:45 sunday 21-year-old jeff marrow was accompanying his friend who was selling an item he advertised online. a person interested planned to meet him at the lakeland family dollar park lot. the seller parked his truck, a man approached. in the midst of the transaction investigators say the suspects took off running with the item. marrow and the seller chased after. soon the death of footsteps was deafened by gunshots.

he had been hit. though the seller rushed on into the store to call 911 morrow who just moved to the area was dead. >> reporter: he owns the marathon gas station to the north of the family dollar. deputies woke him up. they needed him to come to the store right away. >> they want to see our outside camera. we showed them everything we could and whatever we need to help them out. >> reporter: he hopes it is enougho after all, he's been in business 28 years in lakeland, 14 years in this location and says that senseless violence has no place here. >> watch out for each other trying to keep the crime down. report anything that is in the neighborhood. it's unfortunate for something like this happens. scare my wife and the family a little bit. >> reporter: investigators haven't said what item was up for sale. whatever it was it could not

life. this is just an unsettling reminder of the dangers associated with meeting up to strangers whether it's for a date or for a sale. many law enforcement agencies have offered up their properties as safe places for meet ups. if one party is looking for trouble, they're unlikely to show up there. jeff marrow's killer is still on the loose. if you know anything about what happened here last night call the polk county sheriff's office. kelly? >> haley hinds reporting for us. thank you. >> not protests continued in east tampa. these people outraged over the death of lavonia rig inz. he was unarmed when deputies say he reached for his waistband during a s.w.a.t. team raid and a deputy shot him to death. that was last week. fox 13's evan axelbank is live where the protesters were blocking the street. >> reporter: this was an emotional but nonviolent protest as protesters demanded that the deputy be punished.

are outside of tampa bay. escorted down 78th street by deputies from the same agency they're protesting, those angry over the death of 22-year-old lavonia riggins stopped traffic. >> we all out here to make sure that the officer, um, get -- goes to jail and everything. and that -- it's a sad, sad tragedy. >> reporter: they reject claims made b which says that riggins, a suspected marijuana dealer, was reaching for his waistband during a s.w.a.t. team raid on his home last tuesday. riggins who was later found to be unarmed was shot once by deputy caleb johnson. >> our whole family we just want answers. we don't understand what happened. >> reporter: crystal brown drove two hours to march with these protesters. her ex-husband marlon brown died in 2013 after he fled a traffic stop and was run over by a police officer in de land,

that incident but not charged. >> it's an epidemic that's happening without accountability. and we have to start resisting it. we should just be treated just like every other human being. >> reporter: she defended the block of roads. >> it inconvenienced our lives. when you took our loved ones away it stopped us into that moment. so we want everybody else to feel that inconvenience that we are feeling on a daily basis. >> reporter: deputies said on friday they have met with leaders of the african-american community and investigation into riggins death will be fair. >> i've been with the sheriff's office 25 years. i grew up here. and i take our investigations very seriously. >> reporter: and the state attorney's office will be the ones to decide whether deputy caleb johnson is charged. deputy johnson has been placed on administrative leave. chris? >> reporter: is there any word on how long it will take the state attorney's office to reach a conclusion. >> reporter: there's not.

investigations are that they take as long as is it necessary in order to make sure every single thing they can possibly document is documented. and then they will come out with their conclusions. that's generally how these things work. >> anchor: evan axelbank live in tampa, thanks. robbed at gunpoint in ybor city, that's what happened to six people overnight. police arrested the suspects at a mcdonald's drive-thru in ybor city and they say the robbers approached the victims after the bars closed, jewelry, fired guns into the air as warning shots. in one case officers say a victim was pistol whiped. >> the suspects approached them. first asked if they had any marijuana on them then started to demand their money, their ables. >> reporter: officers say they found weapons, ammunition and other stolen items inside the car. the sheriff of polk county says he is very concerned because dozens of firearms were

arms on south florida avenue. men pulled up to the store, ripped off the burglary bars and smashed a window to get in. among the things they stole are 30 handguns and ten semi-automatic rifles. that's not good. investigators say they're worry wherd those weapons will end up. detectives believe they are looking for four people. this is in connection with that same crime. they say three men went into the store while the fourth stayed in the truck as the driver. the truck described as a ford f-150 with extended cab, it has chrome wheels and a bumper with a slat grill. if you know anything about that vehicle or those people that may be responsible, call crime stoppers. pasco county floodwaters are starting to recede but thousands of residents there just aren't in the clear yet. today emergency crews passed out 660 cases of water to families in badly flooded evacuation areas. they wanted to make sure

water. many of the properties in these neighborhoods use both well water and septic systems. and when flooding is this bad those wells can easily become contaminated and that can start making people sick. >> septics lids are popped up. the septic water is coming bubbling up from the septic systems and drain leaks into the ground. so you are getting all that bacteria water floating down the river and down the roads and through the yards. so it's dangerous. >> anchor: pasco county is not under a boil water advisory at the moment but officials say if your water is supplied by a well and you experience flooding it is a good idea to boil your water. make sure that you have well water tested before you start drinking it and using it. >> we know there was a lot of damage in pasco county. the county just released preliminary numbers from hurricane hermine. nine homes destroyed. nearly 300 homes have major damage.

artists turned various parts of the city into a canvas. you don't have to look very hard to see their evidence of their hard work. >> those artists spent their labor day laboring with brushes and rollers to make st. pete look like an outdoor gallery. one of the murals is especially eye popping. a local artist led a team that painted this huge street mural on the intersection of central avenue and fifth street south. she told us the design was inspire bid a quilt the project is part of st. pete's second annual shrine mural festival which invites professional artists to help revitalize parts of the city, start a dialogue and inspire creativity. >> not every city is built for this but st. petersburg being as creative as it is they come out and embrace it. they're very supportive and we appreciate that. it's something we don't take for granted. we want to make sure that every artist involved with shine rises

county with heavy rain. kind of a strange rain motion today. moving from north to south. that's an indicator that the weather is about to change. i'll explain why in a sec. first things first, showers inland and to our south will gradually end tonight. the rest of tonight even a bit cooler in spots with a developing north and northeast wind. the nights now are getting longer. we've lost about an hour of daylight already since june. that's moving in to the autumn season. satellite radar shows generally a north northeast wind kind of rotating around the remnants of hermine off new england and high pressure over tennessee. in between those two systems, winds are generally north and northeast. outside now 73 in lakeland. 76 brooksville. 80 along the coast. punta gorda had heavy rain and 73 degrees. fort myers 75. we have hermine off new england.

sheered along the way. not concerned about that. one of the atlantic doesn't look too healthy at all. time being we're a-okay as far as the tropics go. here is a tropical update. hermine is going to drift west then weaken then finally be in the gulf maine then move away. it will produce tropical-storm-force winds on cape cod but the system is weakening. this system is not we this is hurricane newton heading for baja and cabo san lucas. we'll probably have a direct hit tomorrow. 85-mile-an-hour storm is going to move rapidly to the northwest then probably produce some monsoonal rains in arizona by wednesday and thursday. so, obviously, they're rushing to get their preparations finished by time hurricane newton makes landfall during the day tomorrow. for us we're 79. the dew point is 70.

showers and thundershowers weakening tonight. here is the key to the forecast. you have the storm off new england. you have high pressure over the tennessee valley. in between the high and low, the winds come in from the north and northeast tomorrow and that means a drier air mass in red. it will even be, i think, a little bit less humid. not october or novemberish. but i think if you are outside tomorrow afternoon you may notice a slight done in the humidity even though daytime highs will stay all yellow. you think last week we had all the red tropical moisture from the approach of hurricane hermine. now it is a flip-flop. now we've got pure dry air moving our way in yellow and brown. that means drier air. also means that rain chances tomorrow through thursday, no more than 20 percent if that. that dry air stays around for wednesday until the moisture increases friday and into the

feet. eating in the restaurant, dishes going all over the place. pretty exciting. exciting for me but half the ship is in the room over the toilet. so. >> hermine is expected to slowly meander off the mid-atlantic coast and authorities warn the threat from dangerous rip currents and rough surf will remain at least the next couple days. nong island, rick leventhal, fox news. >> back in the bay area the affects of hermine are apparent what remained of their beach is washed away. for years residents have been complaining that a permanent fix is needed. the city of sarasota has been working with the army corps of engineers for two decades. that plan would provide re-nourishment every five years and after repeated storms. people say something needs to be done. >> i walk this beach quite a bit. i like to walk it early in the morning and sometimes when the

around the buildings. >> they did a smaller restoration project about two years ago and that was done to replace sand that was actually washed out from debby. that cost about $4 million and it was gone within months. lido beach residents are waiting on the state's final approval of that long-term fix plan but that's still in the works. from pinellas county to sarasota, several beaches had posted no swim advisories now and they're testing positive for high levels of bacteria after the hurricane blew past the area. sarasota county lifted its advisory for siesta key late this afternoon. there's still one place in north lido beach that still has problems. many chose to stay out of the water today. red flags flew from lifeguard stands warning people of potential danger in the water. bacteria comes from pet waste and storm water run-off. it can be dangerous for the young, elderly and people with weakened immune systems. many people we spoke with this afternoon said they weren't
