they are both ripping the news media. >> it's all about ratings. >> really a terrible group of people. >> trust in media dropped to a record low. we break it down with former anchor john wilson. >> with trump's focus on law and order. charley looks at violent crime with the men who do hard time. a new poll that spells bad news for hillary clinton just as she gets back to wo. new concerns about airline security and travel to cuba. this is money, power & politics. journists shine the light and keep politician honest. a new study shows americans trust in the news media dropped to an all time low. we'll start by explaining why people are losing faith in journalists. part of it goes right back to politics and both parties ripping the media for different

fires. that's what folks watch. it's about ratings. >> you like the media. give them a hand. if you don't give them a big boo. (booing) >> i had a feeling. >> well, journalists strive to teach, e lum nate and inspire the community. the news media can always do better. journalists are caught in a cross fire. democrats and republicans are accusing too soft on one side or the other. first president obama with a case against the media that turned off democrats. >> there are serious issues at stake in this election. behind all the frivolous stuff that's covered every day. i sure do get frustrated with the way this campaign is coming. >> the president accused journalists of pandering to donald trump for ratings. which would drive democrats to dislike the media. >> guys in the back.
11:38 pm
how i feel about this. do you mind if i vent for a second? [cheering] >> obama made the case the news media enabled trump is therefore responsible for his rise in politics by not asking tough questions or holding him accountable. >> the electorate would be better served if that happened. if it came with serious accountability. >> trump dominated news coverage since last summer. obama framed much as gossip of journalism. >> to probe and question and dig deeper and demand more. >> that argument is trump is getting a pass has driven a lot of democrats to lose faith in the media. at the same time, republicans are listening to trump who is saying the media is too tough on him. so they lose faith in the media, too. it's sort of like the ghost in sixth sense. they only see what they want to see and the media gets caught in the squeeze. >> the press is very, very
11:39 pm
>> to trumps point while he's received a fortune worth of media coverage, much painted him in a negative light. >> that's a typical case of the press with misinterpretation. >> from his lack of awareness of foreign policy to business bankruptcies to claims he ripped off students at trump university. reporters have been digging into donald trump quite a bit and trump does not like it. >> they are scum. so bad. so illegitimate. they are just terrible people. pretty good percentage is really a terrible group of people. >> so, if journalists feel they didn't just do it by rolling over as president obama claims. they fired up his base by piling on with accusations they cannot fully prove. >> you have to see this guy. i don't know what i said. i don't remember. >> case in point. headline trump mocks reporter with disability. the new york times and others convicted him though trump insisted he dead not know the reporter he was quoting was disabled.
11:40 pm
looked trump mocked a disabled man he's so animated you could claim he's mocking ping-pong players or people with vertigo or choking on dinner. while soft coverage appears to turn off one side. harsh media coverage appears to have turned off the other. each side tends to follow perspective that fits their world views so they don't see where the other side is coming from. we've seen a deeper dip in republican faith in the media. distrust of media that goes beyond trump. >> democrats from is superpact called the mainstream media. [whistling] >> this b-s coming from the lame stream media. >> republican distrust took off with richard nixon. >> i have never heard or seen such outrageous, vicious, distorted reporting in 27 years of public life.
11:41 pm
his war policy in vietnam. he dispatched his vice president to declare war on the mainstream media. >> people of this country have the rigight to make up the own minds and form their own opinions about a presidential address without having the president's words and thoughts characterized through the prejudices of hostile critics before they can even be digested. >> nixon rallied what he called a silent majority to challenge media critics and drive his journalists challenged him an took him down later over water gate. nixon framed it as a media frenzy and it stuck long after nixon. now that distrust is amplified with trump's claims that the media is, what did he say? >> they are scum. absolute scum. remember that. scum. >> yeah. well in the second half of the show, we drill into trump's economic and trade pos, big speech today and with a he and

we examine rubios warning that flights from tampa to cuba could be the target of terrorists. but first on the subject of the news media. i asked john wilson to join us for his $0.02. >> this is john wilson's my view now. >> all right. time for john wilson my view fou. so let's start with president obama criticizing the political media for not going harder after donald trump. you have donald trump saying the media going too hard after him. who has it right? >> president obama has that one right. the media needs to focus on donald trump. as they need to be doing on hillary clinton, as well. she was asked a series of questions. one after the other about one subject. the media now gets focused on one subject, seldom goes onto a followup. challenge these candidates with three and four followup questions but you need to be calling them out on it and it

wallace to do that. >> with hillary clinton. >> with hillary clinton. i would like to see the same done with donald trump. that needs to be done with donald trump. but you can't let him get off on these generalized statements he keeps make about how he would make things happen. how are we going to afford this? how do you car are i this out? he gets off easy. i don't know why it is, craig. here he is daily target of the media. they should be able to f him without getting thrown out of a meeting and really get some -- try to get some answers. we still don't have the answers. where's the media on this? i don't know. >> well, one of the tools that donald trump uses or tack is to vilify the media. which is distrusting the media to begin with. not necessarily for bad reason sometimes. >> it took and interview in the a studio with chris wallace and hillary clinton to get to the bases of her campaign.
11:44 pm
but you're right. the proponents of each of the candidates will come after you. i know that intimidates the media. i don't want to be in a crowd like that and i know you don't either. direct questions with followups have to be asked. >> i follow your post on social media. one of my favorites you went after some nationl tv news people for saying, down there in florida. why? >> i'm tired of people referring to us as down there. talking about electoral votes and impacts on elections. but to keep calling us like we're in some other continent, down there. i want to say, wait a minute. we're all watching tv. we're all on the same wavelength. we're all in the same time zones for the most part even though we're in separate time zones.

good morning. flight 387. >> jet blue launched a new age of travel last month. the first commercial flight from south florida to cuba. >> cuba was this mysterious island so close to us yet could have been mars because we couldn't go. we couldn't visit and see the beauty of that island. >> now southwest is planning commercial flights from tampa to cuba. but ou government just admits there flights yet. contradicting a prior statement from the tsa. the administration has not finalized an air security deal with cuba. they agreed to a plan but the cuban government has not signed. rubio said that could make the flights to cuba a target for terrorist and he's furious. >> today lied. they told us these flights would not begin until they reached an agreement to have air marshals and other measures in place.
11:48 pm
happening. >> so what does this mean? well, rubio does not have the power to suspend flights on his own and congress is gridlocked and can't do much of anything. but this will put more pressure on the u.s. to finalize this deal. if not, it could at least slow expansion and demand for commercial air travel to cuba. now onto the race. we have big changes tonight in a new fox 13 poll. we're tracking the battleground states and remember how we told you the r in georgia? not nem. check out the fox 13 poll numbers. trump just a shot ahead of hillary clinton 46% to 42% in georgia. trump has the support of # 2% of african americans in that state in our poll and leads significantly among independent voter. our pollster says he expects florida to vote the same way as georgia based on the patterns he's seeing across the two

i think america should feel more comfortable with the help of its candidates today than yesterday. >> so you have a reality show doctor saying they are okay to him. what more can you say? spl i can say there's a long history of presidents and illnesses and health issues that have been covered in the media. some of them hidden and some of them not hidden. which first? >> let's start with jimmy carter collapsing during the marathon or bush throwing up in
11:54 pm
you have a relatively healthy president but then you have others who are unhealthy and it didn't showment >> not only did it not show but they worked at hiding it. all of this doesn't mean hillary clinton is hiding it. we're not suggesting that. what we can say is john f. kennedy had addisons disease for a long time. he lived almost every day in pain according to his brother. woodrow wilson if you go back 90 years or a hundred years at this point. he had a white house while president and his wife ran the white house for several months and managed to keep woodrow wilson hidden at rest in bed while she ran the show. >> we don't want that. >> no. >> we want the president to be healthy enough to do the job. where do you draw the line? what do voters have a right to know and not necessarily no? >> the number one thing is can this person be trusted to
