6:03 pm
satellite. it's actually a large storm as far as the size goes. it's going to come into the crib -- carribbean sea. and watching it here. heavy rain bands. winds gusting 50 to 60 in the area during the day today. 13.8. 62 west. top winds of 60. should become a hurricane, if not tomorrow definitely on friday as the storm moves to the west. we fl five-day forecast, especially between now and say saturday that it's going to be a big, sharp right harchd turn. so places -- hand turn. so places like jamacia and cuba, this is monday at 2:00. you have to pay attention. could be a hurricane hit for them. beyond that, there are all kinds of uncertainties. i mean, a lot of models, you know, pick up a trough on the east coast then shoot the storm out to sea which is good.
6:04 pm
coast. other models slow down and kind of bend to the west. tough to say yet. today, our main impact has been rain and it looks like it's going to be fairly wet into the weekend. we'll talk more about that coming up at 6:20. back to you. >> paul, thank you. federal aid is on the way to help repair damage from hurricane hermine. president obama signed the request today. grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low cost loans as well for uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and businesses try to recover. now, congress one step closeer to helping florida fight the zika virus. the senate approved an emergency funding bill. the money will help increase local mosquito control efforts

the area where the spill occurred but they expect little health or environmental environment. >> the city of north port is taking extra precautions to make sure their drinking water is safe. that's after a tanker overturned on i-75 friday night it was carrying more than 4,000 gallons of fuel. the department of environmental protection was called in to clean up the site. everything was ok until heavy rain bridged the clean up area. so a light sheen of chemicals was actually spotted in a nearby creek. to north port's water supply. so the city decided to stop the intake of that water just to be safe. >> there's alternate water supplies available, and in this situation, it was the best decision to make sure the drinking water is safe first. >> the city is now getting their drinking water from the plant. they're waiting on tests to come back from the dep before they go back to that source affected by the creek and the accident.

>> today i was inspired. we learned that being a role model is more than just being in a child's life. it's about encouraging them to do better, to grow, and we should do that, not only for our children but for other children in the community as well. >> reporter: dungy says education is at the forefront of building up the future generation and with racial tensions at a high point across the nation, he says arming kids with intellect and respect is more important than ever. >> it's parents, teachers, law enforcement. anybody that has that authority title, and we've got to teach our kids how to interact properly with authority, how to respect authority, and how to be an authorityian so when they grow into those position they're relating to people in the right way. >> and this is just one of many

6:16 pm
earlier today. a little lull and know showers and thunder showers are firing up. if you're watching us in plant city storm has gone by you, couple of stray showers or light rain. more rain approaching from the gulf. a lot of this will weaken as it moves on shore. as i said. look at citrus. this is on 19. and there's more rain on the coast. watching this at home, additional bands of rain heading your way. a we evening i then haynes city down 27. the motion today is west to east. we have two more days of a west wind. then this weekend the winds will flip hof flop and come in from the east and northeast. that means storms along the west coast during the afternoon. this weather, by the way, is giving june, july and august a run for its money. it's been that busy. storms approaching the lake. as i said there are additional storms out in the gulf.
6:17 pm
redeveloping early in the day or early in the morning tomorrow. now, temperatures are in the 80s. we had rain earlier. it's amazing. on monday, models were insisting a cold front would bring at least a day or two of low humidity. that's not going to happen. i mean, may buy up in the panhandle. but it's just tough. it's tough in late september to get a front to go through and give us a shot of refreshing air. you have to wait until later in october. now the tropics are busy. this is matthew which is now jumped in the carribbean sea. it will be moving west for a time. top winds of 60. it may not become a hurricane tomorrow but it certainly will on friday. and the short term forecast is pretty much locked in of a hurricane moving west and then turning as a trough kind of picks it up. beyond that, you know, we've been looking at -- been in the office all afternoon looking at many models as you can imagine.
6:18 pm
even going out to sea. but there are some reliable police departmentings -- models that show a bend to the west. the problem is the pattern is complicated over the country, and it will depending on the position of a trough and a ridge and a ridge. not today but a week down the road. that's why it's so complicated. because we don't know exeaktly how the upper level pattern will shape up. you can see a lot of the state, but i still don't have a lot of confidence that factually this is going to play out. this is it. you got a big trough now, but that goes by. then a ridge builds in. then a trough goes by. and we're trying to figure out what's that going to look like a week from now? that will literally govern the future track of what should be hurricane matthew to our south. so not here to hype this thing. but the problem is, you get a
6:19 pm
watch it. any bend to the west would impact us. gfs model. as was the case yesterday has a hurricane in the carribbean sea. jamacia, haiti, the baham sam and then getting up to the mid-atlantic states as a hurricane, you know, up by new york city. so you see that? and then you've got the european model which last night the run was a hurricane approaching miami, and i said last night. watch today it will be i and this is what it is now. about the same time as last night it was here last night. now it's over here. you get the idea how difficult this is. and that's why day seven to 10 we kind of take it with a grain of salt. the average margin of error on a five-day forecast is 240 miles. so a seven-day forecast is about 4 hundred miles. that's why we don't jump up and down and get excited on seven to 10-day forecasts.
6:20 pm
we'll watch it. in the meantime, we get a west wind. 75 dew point. 84 temperature. the dry air is back here. again, getting into the panhandle but i think we're locked in with above average rainfall between now and the middle of the next week. showers should redevelop near the coast late tonight. and we're down to 77. showers and thunder showers move inland tomorrow. and we're back in the mid-80s. on friday, it's more of the same. the pattern there change this weekend with a northeast wind developing. and that means showers and thunder showers going back to the west coast which could impact the 4:00 game for the bucks on sunday. that would be two weekends in a row. temperatures staying in the 80s for highs and 70s for lows. scott. >> well, tim tebow did something today. have you heard yet? it was something quite incredible that puts him in a conversation with none other than ted williams.
