10:04 pm
are hinting at perhaps rapid intensification on the west side of andros along the gulf stream and that is obviously a big concern on the west coast of our state. tropical storm watch up, by definition that means tropical storm force winds possible. and this means expect tropical storm force winds. there viewing viewing area, they are d up along our east coast. this is still a dangerous category 3, and then the track reasoning has not changed and i will tell you, i will be candid, i really hope this is one time that we missed the forecast and the storm is weaker and stayed farther out to sea.
10:05 pm
reliable -- the best models, the european, the gfs are all insisting on a major hurricane scraping up the east coast, which to be candid is the worst scenario because you're talking about a long stretch of land that could be winds 115 to 125. lots of damage along the eas the core to say offshore, we have to open hope that happens t what we are seeing now is the center very close to the coast and then curving away, and i made a postlast night that went viral showing it a loop and it coming back towards florida. let's not worry about that, in fact the european model has it sitting and then moving away in
10:06 pm
let's worry about the next two days first. computer models are just right on our hugging. if this path was to verify, that is much, much better but as of now we are going to stick with a track right along the immediate coastline, and then a bend and things go all over the place after that. tampa bay impacts? we'll do this graphic quickly. you will have obviously winds increasing tomorrow, to 25, and this is at noon and this is friday at 2:00 a.m., and these are models. it doesn't necessarily mean they will verify at these numbers but west palm, 98. viro, 97. and tampa bay, 35 to 40, that is manageable af and then 113 and , and 76 in melbourne and you get
10:07 pm
atlatlantic here and it goes upe coast and we stay in our viewing area, 35 to 45, and a big dif difference on the west side of the storm verses the east side. many more graphics coming up at 10:30. 10:20. >> and we have some school closures. sumter county going to have an early they will be closed on friday. and people are heeding the warnings. this is emergency managers closely watching matthew's track. and let's go live to auburndale tonight, evan, what have you learned? >> logical polk county is well inland, people are not messing around. they are getting prepared, lines are long and the essentials they are dwindling.

to live in it and to think about it. >> the red cross has already mobilized to provide water and shelter people. no far no deaths reported on that island. >> it's very bad and everyone is watching this track. and so paul, talk to us about the timing. when we are going to see things anywhere in this state? >> later tomorrow, peo be tomorrow night, and unfortunately a lot of the bad weather will be at night. you hate to see that on the east coast, and during the day on friday, the storm goes up the east coast and by saturday it should be gone. today we had the first sign that there is a hurricane to the southeast of us. you start to see the clouds you know, start moving along, and tomorrow when you are outside, you will notice -- watch the clouds tomorrow, they will move northeast to southwest and they
10:16 pm
the outskirts of the hurricane. even late today clouds were starting to move in that direction from northeast to southwest overhead. and that is also being picked up by our live wind data. notice the arrows kind of have more oomph, a kind of a flow from the northeast. all of that is being picked up by -- i was going to say the outer bands overall flow of matthew. down to the southeast. we did have rain today that was moving along, and now there is rain in northern pinellas county. not a big deal but here is some over palm harbor and over the county lynn in hillsboro. again, it's moving along and that is a sign that there is a developing hurricane to our southeast. right now temperatures are in the 70's and low 80's and the winds are slowly starting to
10:17 pm
low pressure down here, and high pressure up here, and the wind field is now starting to pick up a little bit from the east and northeast. here is the infrared satellite loop, and you know, it's not impossible for this thing to get really cranked up before it makes landfall, strong now as a category 3 but the water temperatures are 85 to 88 and at this point there is no sheer to inhibit the development and we have i think a slowly intensifying hurricane. watches remain up along our west coast, and tropical storm warnings and it means that, expect tropical storm conditions across our inland counties and the really bad stuff will be lined up along our east coast. and when i look at this track, and we saw this in hermine, and
10:18 pm
bad in the states but imagine for a second, hermi hermine was1 and imaginen this going this way. this is why these impacts are huge to our state and we are on the good side, the west side. the problem is along the east coast if that center rides right up i-95 or a1a it literally becomes a buzz saw and you have a long stretch 115 and 120 miles per hour. and you know the topography along the east coast, things jut out like cape canaveral, and coco, and you are talking about potential wide-spread devastation that could rival andrew in places. i don't want to overdiagram tiez
10:19 pm
and if it's this distance, we are in huge trouble on the east coast, and i'm just hoping that i'm wrong. if i'm okay, i'm fine with that but i'm not going to sit here and downplay this threat that is certainly life-threatening along our east coast, and eventually the storm will move out to sea. we'll worry about that next week and see how this plays out. and worst weather will be east of our viewing area, but if you're watching us in polk and highlands, a 40 to 60 makes sense. this is not going be a big rain maker for us, no flooding rain, but in the bay area beginning early tomorrow and all day tomorrow you are going to know a hurricane is going by. winds 35 to 40, and gusty, and
10:20 pm
rain unless we get bigger bands in from the east, and we are all over this storm. dave is in tomorrow morning and we'll have round-the-clock coverage and so be with me on facebook from about midnight, and then tomorrow, mostly cloudy and breezy with a few showers and 86. and then on friday, that is the windy day, especially east of tampa bay. passing heavy showers near 80 and then after that, finally this is all gone. and we get less humid weather on the back side, with highs in the low 80's early next week and night time lows in the 70's. mark and kelley? >> we'll be talking with you in a few minutes, thank you, paul. well, a wild scene. >> and it came to a very frightening end. >> the guy was not stopping. he was there to do harm.
