they didn't see them on the highway. >> reporter: charles hunt says his niece was in the car that hit the mom and daughter. he's lived on the road for 40 years and says he often sees the second grader walking along the bus stop along the road with her mom. >> she's always holding the little girl's hand walking her to school and go down in the evening time and pick her up. >> reporter: they're both fighting for lives in two polk county hospitals. the neighbors say the county needs to step accident waiting to happen, but it's dangerous. i'm pretty sure that the county, the city and everybody is aware of that. >> reporter: we reached out to county officials to see if they're looking into adds streetlights or possibly a sidewalk and we have yet to hear back. linda. an arrest in a dead hi hit-and-run case from polk county. deputies charged a man with killing a woman with alzheimer's and trying to cover up the crime. josh cascio has been covering

office with the latest. josh. >> reporter: just a short time ago, the sheriff announced to us it was an anonymous tip led them to jarvis kendrick, 37 years old from lakeland. it he stopped and called 911 and did the right thing, there would be zero charges. the alleged hit-and-run is one thing. what he did after that allegedly is a whole other story. first, i want to show you h polk county. deputies allege on october 6th he hit janice joy walking along duff road near sheffield drive in lakeland and just took off. joy suffers from alzheimer's disease. her loved ones tell fox 13 she likely at the time had no idea where she was going. at the time sheriff judd noted a piece of the suspect vehicle was left at the scene, a broken

scheme to cover up the damage to his car going as far as to purposely crash into a sign on the highway to try and cover up the alleged hit-and-run. >> we're shocked. we expect more of everyone in the community, but certainly we expect more of those in the community that we see as a leader in the community. now he's a leader in the county jail. about there is the fact that kendrick is a senior vp for mid-flor credit union. also get this. back in 2015, jarvis kendrick was among those honored with the polk emerging leaders award. he was described as a self-less leader and someone that took pride in helping at-risk kids. tonight himself he's facing a pair of felonies including leaving the scene of the accident involving death. that is a felony one. linda, back to you. >> josh, thank you.

new port richey neighborhood after a shooting earlier this afternoon. employees at a dollar general near the scene got a shock when a woman walked in asking for help telling the clerks she got shot. deputies got the call before 1:30 this afternoon. the woman's injuries are not life-threatening. a st. pete soldier police officer is accused of passing out drunk behind the wheel of a car, and this isn't his first arrest for drunk driving. they arrested officer anthony green after they found him passed out i last night on gulf boulevard. he was arrested for dui back in 2009, put into a recovery program. but the chief also says if convicted, there won't be any more chances. >> if we come to find out he did do exactly that, no, he's not going to be there. he's going to go through his due process. >> right now green's on unpaid leave, and coming up a little later at 6:00, we're going to explain the recovery program and how green was able to keep his

afternoon, look at this. high temperatures mostly in the mid-70s, so take your pick. today the high about 88, low temperature about 71 this morning. by saturday we do a 79 and a 62. that's a nice transition pretty much from summer to fall over the weekend. it's another day today with record-heat across the entire east coast going back to texas, but eventually this big trough, which brought the will start dipping to the south, and you know, if you want to get cooler weather, you have to see this. you have to see a big u in the jet stream. that's a trough. it brings down cool air from the northwest. they typically hang around for a couple of days. that will happen this time, and then by monday and tuesday, we slowly start the warm-up. so certainly something for a will the on of us looking forward to and a good tim to crank up the fire pit this weekend. mostly clear tonight down to 70.

here thinking he may not win? >> let's start with voter fraud. there's clearly something to the problem of voter fraud. we've investigated it in florida. we've knocked on doors and found people who voted in this state and then voted in another state, north carolina, for example, in the same election. so this does exist. we found dozens of cases of it in florida going back to 2012. the trump campaign is citing others include a pugh study shows 24 million voters who were no longer valid. 1.8 million who were dead, yet, still listed as voters. he's raised concerns about hundreds of votes being improperly cast in the state of pennsylvania four years ago. some research from old dominion university showing a small percentage, around 2% of non-citizens cast ballots in 2010. so to his point that there has been voter fraud, well, that certainly is true, and we've confirmed it by the way of our

halloween, right? >> look at the maps, every day you hope it works out. it looks on track for this weekend. 50s for lows and take a look outside today. no 50s and 89 degrees. we missed the record by one measley degree. the low is 71, to running 5 above on the high side and 5 plus 3 is 8 divided by 2. 4 degrees above normal for today. look at the month of october, and we've seen this over and over. most days are in red, including a stretch of 89, 88, 88, 90, 90, 89. i hate to say this, but it kind of has that look from the end of last year. i don't think we end the year as warm as it was at the end of 2015, but we had many days last year in november and december that were way above average.

way. today fair weather clouds dotting the sky, and then moving quickly from east to west. the clouds do not get high enough in the sky to produce any rain today, and temperatures now as of 5:00 not bad, running in the mid-80s including 88 in tampa. we may have tropical storm otto on the map in a couple of days. the good news is that this is great niez. the storm is not going this way, and usually in mid-october, tropical systems, you know, don't go of the change of the season, jet stream is getting stronger and it's farther south. usually storms take a big right hand turn. matthew was an exception. very few storms go this one. the one of note is hurricane king that hit miami back in october 50 years or so ago. 88 now, and the dew point is 65, humidity is 46%. winds are light from the northeast. satellite and radar shows a

east. we're watching tropical development out in the bahamas, and again, no threat to us. you look at the heat on the east coast, pretty incredible. 81 in little rock, and it's 81 degrees way up in burlington, vermont where the leaves are peak color now. new york is 78 and nashville is 87. so tonight we stay mostly clear and nice, a low down to 70. sunshine is back tomorrow. daytime highs in the upper 80s, and no significant change locked in here on the seven-day. i feel really good, confidence is high because all the models are agreeing on a cold front friday and then significantly cooler and less humid for the weekend. that's good stuff. what do you have, scott? breaking news out of 1 buc place, vincent jackson is played on the injured reserve with a knee injury, a move that could mean he returns in eight weeks but there's a strong possibility his season is done.

6:00 news. good evening. i'm in tonight for kelly ring. >> i'm mark wilson. there's an arrest tonight in a deadly hit-and-run accident in pol county. janice joy had alzheimer's and likely didn't where she was going when she was hit and killed. tonight sheriff grady judd says the man that hit her tried to cover up the crime. let's go to josh cascio. what have you learned? >> reporter: tonight sheriff grady judd is basically kendrick, staged an accident on i-4 to try and cover up his involvement in this hit-and-run. let's show you some video. he was in court earlier today here in polk county. he's alleged to have hit janice joy on october 6th and kept on going. the sheriff said had he stopped to help and called 911, there would have been no charges at all.
