we begin with that breaking news we've been following for a couple of hours now on the alephia river in hillsborough county where they continue to search for a father this never returned after taking his 3-year-old son out on a jetski. haley hines is live along the river for us. haley, the amazing part of the story, the boy is okay, but no sign of the dad yet, right? >> reporter: they're still out there looking for out here has grown even larger with fwc now joining the search as well as the crime scene unit. a lot of eyes out there on the dark water searching for 38-year-old william morris. he has been missing since this afternoon after he went on a jetski ride with his 3-year-old son on the river. his jetski and life jacket and wallet were found on a small island west of i-75 as was his son. the good news is morris's

they found that little boy alone on the island and waited with him until deputies got there. it's still a mystery what happened today. this was supposed to be a fun day on the river for the father and son. who morris' wife called his krem phone, he didn't answer and the little boy answered via facetime. he gave her enough information to get deputies to the island to get him to safety. one neighbor saw the boy brought to shore by a boat. he looked scared but wasn't hurt. we talked to river since he was a child, and he said for the most part it is a safe area around that island. >> it's kind of weird, because there ain't many places to go. it's just short across this side and that side. there ain't much to get hurt by honestly. >> reporter: deputies continue searching that water out there by boat and by helicopter. you know, no word yet on what

the water. that is certainly some information that investigators will help them a lot trying to find out exactly what happened and where the father might be. but just out here a lot of people, investigators, family, neighbors watching the scene unfold hoping for good news tonight. we'll continue to follow the story and bring any updates we get on the investigation. chris. >> we will follow you on social media as well pushing out updates for us. thank you. a polk county deputy is after getting struck about i a car in a deadly hit-and-run. deputy adam pennell was helping a woman saturday morning in the median when another driver hit them both and took off. the woman died, and fox 13's josh cascio is at lakeland regional with more on the deputy's recovery and the search for the driver. we hear the deputy was pretty badly injured. >> reporter: yeah, he has a

or so or maybe more of recovery time. there he was early saturday morning helping a motorist just in an accident on state road 60 when out of the blue they're hit by another driver who takes off leaving them both for dead. how many times have we said that over and over again. the deputy was taken to the hospital. the woman did die there on scene. now, tonight we hear from grady judd and the woman's mother, both are shocked and outraged and they are both demanding sake, for even my daughter's memory. this deputy, you are in my prayers. >> you're a coward, that's what you are. you're going to be a coward wearing orange sooner or later. >> reporter: now, that deputy will be having surgery tomorrow. among his injuries is a broken

about those sort of injuries. we know there's a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. so if you know anything, contact the polk county sheriff's office. we're live in lakeland tonight, josh cascio, fox 13 news. new at 11 a pasco county man wants to spare you from the drama his family endured yesterday. >> that's the worst phone call you want to get. he went crazy, so he hit your brother in the head with a gun and he took him to his >> reporter: his wife got a call from a man yesterday with quite a story. that man claimed their son backed into his brother's motorcycle, and his brother who is a fugitive attacked their son, kidnapped them and will kill him if the family doesn't send $1,000 to repair the motorcycle. i began talking and asking questions, and when the man wouldn't let him speak with his son, he smelled a scam.

person is lying or not. this is in my blood. if i kidnap somebody, a million, half a million. a thousand dollars? it didn't make sense to me. >> it sure doesn't. while he was on the phone with the guy, his other son called the pasco county sheriff's office to report the alleged kidnapper's nands. they said it's a scam, one they have taken a lot of calls about over the past year. the unfortunately it's impossible to track down the scammers because they use apps and other technology that disguises where they call from. so their advice is if someone calls you with a story about a loved one in trouble nanding money to save them or bail them out of jail, be skeptical and call authorities. >> that is really low, isn't it? donald trump taking a different campaign approach. rather than rallying voters in must-win states, teed he tackle

it was his sixth visit to michigan so far. it's a democratic leaning state. a republican hasn't won there since 1988. as for florida, a republican hasn't won here since 2004, and trufrm's vice presidential nominee wants to change that. mike pence was in pinellas county today trying to make that happen. now, this is a state, though, that trump really needs to get an order to get the white house. >> evan axelbank is here to explain the message. there are some technical difficulties as well. we'll get to those in a second, cynthia and chris. of course, this is florida, so first of all, you should know that the registration of voters who have mailed in early or voted in early is basically 50/50. it's unbelievable. mike pence's message to supporters today was vote, vote, vote. now, take a look at that. you can't see him there. that's because an electrical glitch caused the power to go out about ten minutes into the rally.

there, mike pence pigged up a megaphone and spoke to supporters in the tashg. he argued that republican voters should return home as he put it. he said too much is at stake for them to sit out the election. he spoke in critical pinellas county. it's often a bellwether county, and right now democrats have a modest lead among early and mail-in voters there. he said the only way to win florida is to turnout, turnout, turnout. >> it's fun to watch hillary media. remember about a week ago? they were telling everybody this campaign is all but over, right? hillary was out there, you know, naming cabinet appointments. did you get some of that? they were just deciding they were in there measuring the curtains as far as i knew. this err of inevitability, but i tell you what, don't be fooled. this race is on. >> make pence just warming up for donald trump.

it looks good and is kind of a ways out there. we fine-tune it closer to the weekend. that's my thinking now. 87 was the high, 2 degrees away from the record warmest halloween last year. we hit 89 and the morning low is 67 degrees. we start to see a significant drop in temperature between now and early december. 81, 64 the high and low average by november 24th we're down 5 on the hig around the first week in december, 73 for a high and 56 for a low. that's the average. a nice drop through late november and december. we have a constant northeast wind, not all the time but for most of october this has bee the wind. a lot of times it was because of tropical activity east of us. high pressure north of us and over time this northeast wind, you know, eventually warms up a

blowing off the atlantic and heating up as it moves over land. that wind will shift on friday as the cold front goes through. there could be showers with the front as well. tonight is a nice night. no moonlight tonight. it's a new moon. one thing you notice out trick-or-treating is the bright planet venus in the southwestern sky just after sunset tonight. beautiful view of that. 74 now in tampa, 74 in st. pete. mid to upper 60s inland, and the dew points are they're in the low 60s and drop quite a bit behind the cold front this weekend. the winds are a factor the past several days. a lot of you had a tough time boating this last weekend. it's not a good recipe for comfortable boating. the winds lay down a little the next couple of days but should pick up this weekend. 74 and dew point is 62. winds are east-northeast at 6.

tallahassee was up near 90. cold front slicing across the carolinas and tennessee, and then this front here could play a role in the weather for the world series not necessarily tomorrow night but if there's a game 7, there could be some rain in cleveland. tomorrow night looks okay for them. 57 in chicago and 58 in minneapolis and 38 in buffalo. the first pitch is at 8:08 tomorrow progressive field. 65 degrees at 8:08. 62 by -- there's no games in three and a half and four hours now. 62 by midnight or so. for november that's a mild night. tonight we stay in the 60s and highs tomorrow will be generally in the mid to upper 80s. no cooling until the weekend, so overnight tonight we stay mostly clear and mild and down to 67. we have sunshine tomorrow and guess what?

darkness of night nor these spooky halloween decorations seem to scare away any trick-or-treaters. neighbors say well into the night about 3500 kids walk down these treats. northeast st. petersburg has become a hot spot for trick-or-treaters every year. it's an ongoing tradition for many houses to decorate the homes as elaborate as you see during christmastime. we saw a variety of thymes from alien ships to even haunted houses where kids could actually sit in a neighbors say every year the tradition has been growing even bigger. this year they say another 100 police assisted by closing off - the roadways. while getting a bagful of candy is always fun for kids, a lot say having the most creative costume was their goal this year. many families joined in on the fun as well. folks say halloween is the night when they can just let loose and be who they truly are inside.
