>> i'm mark wilson. >> i'm kelly ring. new at 10:00 tonight, she does not look like the average bank robber, but don't let the gray hair fool you. st. petersburg police arrested 65-year-old janice ellenwood for robbing the bank of america on 62nd avenue north. she say she waited two weeks before turning herself in. crystal clark is live now from the bank that was hit. crystal, she like a bank robber. >> reporter: this was a heist that she planned out from what we can tell. now, she came into the bank wearing a disguise to look younger, and to make sure bank workers complied, she told them she had a bomb. you'd expect to see a face like this handing out cookies.

>> reporter: st. pete police say looks can be deceiving. this is the same woman on november 7th surveillance video captured her wearing a long dark wig. she casually passed a note to the teller claiming to have a bomb. ellenwood got away with $1900 and for two weeks no one could find this mystery robber until monday. >> a 65-year-old lady walked into the front desk of the st. petersburg police crime. >> reporter: she wouldn't say what she did. instead she directed the officer to a news release about the bank robbery. >> she said her picture was all over the news, and she wanted to turn herself in. >> reporter: she was hiding out in the least suspecting place, her condo in a retirement community just five miles away. >> you don't know somebody until you live with them. >> reporter: norma lives in the same building and says what surprises her the most is how

>> at 65 years old to rob a bank? i don't know how she got out of the bank so quickly at that age in the first place. >> now, police say once they got ellenwood in handcuffs and took her in for questioning, she asked for a lawyer. she wouldn't say why she robbed the bank in the first place, only that the bomb she claimed to have was a hoax. police say it's not every day a bank robber turns themself in, and senior citizen. back over to you. >> i'm sure we will hear more details about why coming up. thank you. crystal clark reporting. this developing story in chattanooga, tennessee. a heart-breaking seen a school slams into awe tree and killing six students on board. >> cynthia is following the developments with the latest right now. >> you can see how bad that scene is, too.

the police say roughly 35 children were on the bus whether it flipped over, wrapped around a tree and hit a woman's house. they were all from the same elementary school. now, police were interviewing the bus driver who did survive and later told reporters that speed was, quote, very, very strongly a factor. now, they're trying to determine if the bus hit a utility pole before it flipped over. it took nearly two hours to get the last of the kids off the bus raging kindergartners to fifth graders. >> a bus crash involving school children is every public safety professional's worst nightmare. it's also the thing that we all train for. you have police, fire, ems, and our partners out here doing everything they can to rescue victims and support the families of those already treated. >> police aren't saying anything about the students that died until they are certain that all the families have been notified.

teachers, anybody who needs it. neighbors say there was a woman inside the house where it happened that the bus hit. she was not hurt. she was able to tell investigators what she saw and heard, so she could of some help to the investigation. the national transportation safety board does have a team on the way. >> that is some scene. so sad. new video of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit off the japanese coast today. the quake hit at 6:00 a.m. local from in angle you can see the quake's power. it keeps on going. a couple of hours ago japan lifted that tsunami warning for the fukushima coast. nothing like that same area saw back in 2011 when that magnitude 9.1 struck causing a devastating tsunami that killed close to

damage to the fukushima nuclear plant. only reports of minor injuries and damage. the operator of the plant says no abnormalities have been observed there today. she escaped unspeakable abuse by running into the woods with the strength she barely had left. it's a case of child abuse. the polk county sheriff calls it heart-breaking. she's 17 years old, and for months her tortured her to death. last wednesday he was about to clean out his car when he heard a cry coming from the woods. he thought it was a joke until he saw the victim. she had been severely abused and was begging for help. his mother did call deputies, and they arrested chris and melissa peters. they are the girl's caregivers. the sheriff says they denied abusing the girl, but she was hours away from dying.

look at. she'd been beaten. she had these huge, open, gaping wounds on the top of her feet. she had a broke shoulder. she had a stab wound in her other shoulder. >> remember, she's 17 years old. she weighed 86 pounds. she told investigators she was starved and beaten and she wasn't allowed to shower for months. the couple faces neglect charges and a 15-year-old boy related to this victim was not abused but he is now getting counseling. >> so sad. new at 10:00, the search is on for a serial robber in clearwater. he targeted two different gas stations this morning just a few hours apart. detectives hope you know who he is. investigators say he could be linked to a third robbery in pinellas county. as you can tell from the picture, she does a good

silver nissan. if you recognize him or the car, please call clearwater pd. drug possession, aggravated assault and crying. those are among the details shared on a pasco county sheriff's office page titled sad criminal of the day. in the post two deputies hold up a suspect's head by his hair. the sheriff's office says their deputies had to do that to snap the photo. they tried to inject humor into this particular which was meant to inform the public. some feel the post may have been more about humiliation rather than information. the sheriff's office is now feeling the heat. >> they are endangering the whole community when they do this. this encites anger against the police. >> i don't think that we view that post as inappropriate. i think we view that post as stating a list of facts that accompanied the case. these were the crimes he

newsom high school in hillsborough county? they left early this morning for new york city. we showed you last week they're going to be in the macy's thanksgiving parade on thursday. they're the only florida band invited. 172 students are on board the several buses. they'll march two and a half miles in front of 3 million people and perform three songs live on national television. we wish them all the best. should be a lot of fun, and i'm sure they'll get their primetime. each of the youth bands that goes up seconds on tv. >> we're going to watch for them. very excited for them. they're such a great up band. worked very hard. we're proud of them. >> hopefully they don't freeze up there, paul. >> it wouldn't have been good this weekend. this weekend they had winds 40 miles per hour. you know how the wind funnels through manhattan through the big buildings. this week on thursday looks good. what a day today. not a cloud in the sky, and it really ended tonight with everything sparkling.

model says not to wet. we'll kind of track it during the first couple of days next week. what an introduction to winter in the northeast. big lake-effect snow event. in fact, i-90, the throughway through new york state had issues of blowing and drifting snow. still snowing now, and snowfall on the ground over a foot, in fact two feet downwind of lake ontario. not unusual in december, but november. a lot of snow across the rockies, and about 16% of the country has snow tonight. that's about average for this time of year. we had very dry air today. i saw a dew point in tampa today that was 15 degrees. 15 degrees dew point. it's kind of like being in the desert southwest. that's a typical day in phoenix, very dry and it cools off quickly. brooksville is down to 40 and

we have mid-40s showing up, the colder pockets tonight are in the upper 30s across our inland counties. as i said, the air very dry, dew point in ocala is 28. 41 dew point in tampa, and you don't forget in the summertime we go about five months in a row with dew points between 70 and 75. this is a big change. nice to see some tan and yellow on the dew point map. can you believe this? we are chilly tonightt storm otto, which is spinning in the southwestern caribbean sea. winds are up to 60. this is the strongest tropical system in the caribbean/atlantic this late in the season going back to 2007. should become a hurricane, and then move west near costa rica later on this week. for us, we're 55, and the dew point is 41. a north wind at 6. dry air in the southeast. snow is ending in the northeast.

but no clear answer as to why. tonight police in texas arrested this man in the video for the ambush murder of a police officer. he was shot to death right outside the police station in his patrol car. >> it was one of three shootings on sundays in which police officers were ambushed including one in florida. chris cato has the latest on the texas case. >> a s.w.a.t. team in texas arrested the man suspected of killing a veteran police detective than his profession. here's the scene of the arrest in evening at an exit ramp off i-10 near san antonio. a s.w.a.t. team was trailing the suspect for a couple of hours. a woman was driving and they had a 2-year-old in the back seat. the man surrendered without putting up a fight. he's identified assist 31-year-old otis mccain of san antonio. >> the fact he was taken into custody does not negate the fact

targeting police officers. our officers will always be vigilant and on guard for that. >> they believe mccain is the man in this video walking into the san antonio police station early yesterday morning. he spoke with the desk clerk and left. the chief is not saying what they talked about. he kwam back a few hours later and shot detective marconi as he sat in his patrol outside the police station. at this time there's no clear motive why he shot the officer. there were two other shoots on sunday where police officers were ambushed in their cars. one in st. louis in which an officer was shot in the face sitting in the track. in sanibel an officer was doing paperwork after a traffic stop when a vehicle fired shots hitting the officer in the shoulder.

sanctuary city. officials in l.a., new york and santa fe will stand by their status and have no plans to change. a chilling arrest in the war on terror tonight. a brooklyn man was plotting an attack on times square. according to a complaint unsealed today, mohammed naji tried to join isis at least five times and traveled to turkey and yemen last year. investigators believe he was plotting an attack similar to the one i this year. he's 37 years old. he was allegedly caught on wiretaps talking about the attack and the plans. holiday travelers returning home after thanksgiving may be in for a little headache as hundreds of workers at chicago o'hare international airport plan to walk off the job. workers announced today the strike will begin next tuesday, november 29th. they delay it until after

gave out turkeys. they provide meals to families in need in the sulphur springs community and also in the park. they teamed up with tpd, the tampa police department, to provide turkeys for 300 families through the rich house. >> whether you give back to the community, giving to those deserving, it's very important to us. we try to look at a way to bridge that gap between the community and law enforcement as well as the crew. giving back to the community is very important to helped to identify households in need that received the food. thanks to everyone involved. that will go a long way this week. >> there's another big turkey give-away in tampa. hundreds braved the chilly morning to get a free turkey along martin luther king boulevard. they gave away 3,000 turkeys at their offices in tampa.

thing for the past several years, and we wanted to shout-out to them for doing the right thing. good job. clearwater firefighters handed out free turkeys, too, as they came with all the trimmings as well as the turkeys. the firefighters were at christ catholic church made possible by donations from firefighters, the union and publix. they were very busy this morning. >> generosity going a long way this weekend. probably need to be thankful for what we have. an 11-year-old boy in polk counties is camping outside on a platform above his church to raise money for charity. the platform is 21 feet up in the air. look at that. a tent set up on it, and there is a space heater. even though it was cold last night and colder tonight. still got to be cold for him even though he has a heater. carsson rudy is his name and his
