evacuations in several towns including gatlinburg and pigeon forge. those towns are full of tourists this time of year... there are also reports of flames burning at the edge of the dollywood theme park. the good news: rain is in the forecast today... and could help put out the wildfires. thanks, shayla. we start with a news alert out of colombia this morning. a charter plane on its way to medellin has crashed. there were 81 people on board at the time including a brazilian soccer team. according to colombian police 5 people survived the crash... everyone else died. it's not clear why the plane crashed. santa cruz, bolivia to medellin where the team was set to play in the copa sudamericana final. the south american soccer federation has canceled all activities until further notice as a result of the crash. at 9:56 yesterday morning. this was the message that students across the ohio state university campus recieved. it was short and to the point. it said

19th and college". the university also posted it to all their social media accounts. this morning we know it was not an active shooter. we've learned this all stemmed from a man ?attacking students. this morning, students will head back to class... as detectives continue to investigate this frightening event. monday morning, a student drove his car over a curb outside an engineering classroom building and then began knifing people. 11 people are hurt. 10 of th injuries. one person is still in critical condition. a ohio state university police officer who was at the scene shot and killed the man, before he could go any further.

terrorism is now suspected to have played a role... but right now local and federal officials are still trying to determine an exact motive for the attack. this morning we're also learning more about the man behind the attack. 18-year-old "abdul razak ali artan". he was a somali refugee who was a student at the university. he had been granted status as a legal permanent resident. investigators discovered a message artan posted on facebook which he expressed anger over the treatment of muslims around the world. and this morning this man is being hailed a hero. 28-year-old "alan horujko". the ohio state university police officer was able to take down the attacker just one minute after he plowed a car into a crowd of people. the officer was was responding to reports of a nearby gas leak when he saw what happened. university leaders say the officer ordered artan to drop his knife.. and then shot him when

police are searching for the person who robbed a valet driver at gunpoint outside a popular tampa restaurant. the driver says he was walking through an alley off south howard avenue sunday when a man came up to him and demanded money. back in may the same thing happened ?twice! a valet named joshua said he was one of the victims then. he said after that incident the restaurant had lights installed, but it didn't help. joshua says more needs to be done to keep this from happening again. in all the cases the details are the same. same alley, same description of a tall, thin white male. despite the similarity in all three cases, tampa police are calling sunday's robbery an "isolated incident." we're still waiting to hear whether a man accused of killing a local father will

trevor dooley guilty. now he's asking to be let out on bond before his new trial. dooley's attorneys want the judge to grant bond between 50-100 thousand dollars. back in 2013, dooley was convicted of shooting and killing "david james". the incident happened in 2010 on a basketball court, in front of james' daughter. dooley claimed self defense... a jury didn't agree and he was sentenced to 8 years in jail. in april, an appeals court ruled there were mistakes made during his should be retried. yesterday a judge did not make a decision. instead he said he will make his decision either today or tomorrow. several commercial

havana for the first time in more than 50 years... the first one took off from miami yesterday. american airlines held a small celebration... and served cuban staples before departing. passengers arrived in cuba as the island begins a manadated 9-day mourning period for revolutionary leader fidel castro. thousands of cubans filed through a memorial in the city's revolution plaza yesterday. many people were given tim to attend the memorial... all schools and government offices were closed. castro ruled the country for nearly half a century. his memorial service will continue today. castro's younger brother and successor-- raul castro honored the late leader's ashes yesterday as well. raul left white roses next to the former president's urn. tomorrow... castro's ashes will begin a 3-day procession across cuba... retracing the path of his rebel army to the city of santiago. castro's remains will be

after nearly 2 months of rehab... an american bald eagle will be released back into the wild today. the bird was hit by a car in clearwater back in october on countryside boulevard. a doctor at busch gardens performed surgery on the bird's wing. after some test flights at nature world wildlife... officials decided the eagle was ready to go home. it will be released at lake chautauqua park at 10-30 this morning. the catholic diocese in francis himself. bishop "gregory parkes" will replace bishop "robert lynch" who's retiring after 21 years on the job. parkes comes to the diocese after being a leader in tallahassee and pensacola. bishop parkes says he's blessed to have been given the opportunity. he calls his leadership style, approachable. parkes is somewhat familiar with the area. in the 1980's he worked in the financial sector before going on to seminary.

his election at his new jersey golf course. he's being considered for the secretary of state job. romney joins "rudy guiliani" as the only administration job seekers to sit down with the president-elect more than once since the election. alleged charleston church shooter "dylann roof" will represent himself in court. roof made the request monday... saying he wanted the trial to move forward without his lawyers. the judge in the case said he was reluctantly accepting the request and told roof it was a roof is accused of killing 9 parishioners during a bible study meeting at a predominantly african american church last year. federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case. crews in north carolina rescue a man trapped ?inside a sinkhole. this happened sunday in durham. the man fell into the hole and got stuck in the mud. witnesses say they heard a man crying for help and called 9-1-1. according to officials, the road was closed because of the sinkhole that opened up during hurricane matthew. it took them

stores are trying to reach out to millennials this holiday shopping season. according to adobe digital insights shoppers between the age of 18 and 35 plan to spend about 45-percent more this year, than they did last year. so what are they doing to entice millennial shoppers? h-and-m has enlisted director "wes anderson" to craft their holiday ad. other brands are lowering prices and focusing more on digital sales to try to bring in the internet cwd despite reports that the n-f-l was considering changes to thursday night football... the league says they are sticking by the weekly staple. reports came out earlier this month that the league was considering the possibility of ending or at least limiting thursday night football and that changes would happen as early as the 2018 season. now, a league representative has told fox business that they are fully committed to thursday night football and that any reports saying the opposite are unfounded. a-t-and-t has announced

its way from santa cruz, bolivia to medellin where the team was set to play in the copa sudamericana final. the south american soccer federation has canceled all activities until further notice as a result of the crash. we're learning more about a suspicious death in citrus county. detective believe they found the body of 58-year- old "linda steve" in a burned out car on sunrise loop and sunshine path. firefighters were called out monday morning when neighbors spotted a car on fire steve since last week. an autopsy is scheduled for later today. in st. petersburg, the state attorney's office has ruled the death of "john zemola's" as a justified shooting. "zemola" was shot and killed by two pinellas county deputies after they say he charged at them with a knife. it happened back on november 5th, along north 64th street. the state's attorney's office says the deputies' lives ?were in danger and they had the authority to use deadly force. the first case of the zika virus transmitted by local mosquitoes has been

thanks, ken. we have a better idea of who could be our new justice on the florida supreme court. the state nominating panel interviewed 11 applicants for the job yesterday... then cut the list from 11 to just 3. the alan lawson" the chief judge for the 5th district court of appeal... "wendy berger" a judge in that same district and attorney "daniel gerber" for the role. the spot on the court is opening because justice "james perry" has reached mandatory retirement age and is stepping down on december 30th. no word on when scott will make his decision. it's good news bad news for florida when it comes to crime. the good news is florida's overall crime rate

thefts were all up in the first half of 2016. the florida department of law enforcement released the numbers for the first half of the year yesterday. the overall crime rate was down about 3-percent. but there was a 15-percent jump in murders in the state and an almost 2-percent jump in rapes. among the crimes that went ?down... robberies, burglaries and aggravated assaults. some sad news out of naples. police believe a visually-impaired white-handed ape disappeared from the primate exhibit on monday. zoo workers searched for 6 hours but were unable to find sumba. zoo officials believe she may have wandered into the water around the exhibit and drowned. divers from florida fish and wildlife are searching the water for the ape's body... but so far have found nothing. the zoo remains open to the public, but their primate island is shut down. the country's richest colleges and universities are bracing for budget hits as

worst periods in recent history. an american city business journals analysis showed out of 25 provate, nonprofit schools.... all but one saw a decline in value. boston university was the exception. all together... endowments fell 4 percent--- adding up to 5-point-3 billion dollars in losses. these numbers are for the fiscal year that ended on june 30th... the most-recent numbers aren't available yet. but... the drop in endowments shows this could year on record since 2009. hitting the books has seriously paid off for one sarasota county student. 13-year-old "julia kourelakos " is an 8th grader at pine view school. last month, she decided on a whim to take the a-c-t, a test student's usually don't take until high school. she had completely forgotten about it... until she got her test

and it looks like domino's in japan is really getting into the holiday spirit. they have started training ?reindeer to deliver ?pizzas! the company is testing out the unique delivery method in a very snowy region of the country. right now they're trying to figure out the best way to get the reindeer to deliver... by mounting a delivery case to the animal or having them drag the pizza in sleds. each reindeer will be equipped with a g-p-s so customers can track their orders. they said they hope reindeer delivery
