7:01 am
perfect. we had ten's or both sat the day and sunday after all that rain cleared out on friday. today we have a nine, only because it will start getting hot, around here, yeah, the the heat is on, and you will need to wear your sun screen. we're into the days leading up to the first day of summer which are the the longest, of the year, so if you are outside, you need to make sure thaw are protect. just like bus stop buddy. last couple of days of schools for a lot of kids. temps in the 50's and 60's this morning. it is pretty comfortable and nice morning with all that sunshine. look at how beautiful. 67 degrees with the northerly breeze at five. and that is were it is not humid. relative humidity at 63 percent at the moment. it was dad's delight when we got up to 83 degrees right where we are supposed to it is hot tore day with a high of 88. sunny skies. it will be warmer. then tonight just a few clouds, maybe a stay shower or two but not really likely,
7:02 am
68 degrees is your overnight low. it is just about two minutes after 7:00, so we will check traffic for you right now ape that vehicle fire we told but earlier has closed old york road near old welsh road. so that is going to cause a lot of traffic problems around there. your alternate is edge hill road. there is a disabled vehicle on i-95 northbound at off ramp to cottman avenue, that is partially blocking the ramp and that will cause you some problems this morning as well, karen. >> thanks, sue, happening right now trains are running on septa's regional rails following that regional strike. it got at tension of the president owe bam. fox 29's steve keeley is live in center city with much more on this, steve, it was erie yesterday. we live near one of the train tracks and it is so quiet on saturday. it is bizarre. >> reporter: quietness only lasted 24 hours though so that bizarre feeling is well over and a lot of people never even felt bizarre because they never noticed if there was a
7:03 am
strike if they only do it monday through friday. sue's traffic report would have been longer and worse, i expect, if no trains were running today. we would have a whole lot more cars running on the road, coming in the city. market street is looking normal and 30th street station still buzzing with regional rails coming and delivering those passengers down the street there so monday through friday never have been out of their daily routine and rides and just worried friday night about what they would do monday morning but that short saturday only strike ended fast because the governor put in that request real fast to the president unlike most strikes that didn't end with a new contract but same old delay of what most peer is the inevitable another strike at an even worse time come february. >> i think it is right thing to do it gives us more time to try to negotiate and that is what i would like to see happen. i have been involved with every septa strike for 15 years, you know, and i haven't been asked if i get asked i would get involved but i will wait to get asked but it is
7:04 am
the right thing to do it gives them another two on days to continue talking good for the president to do it. i thought it was really awesome. for him to step in. he is the the president, he has much bigger things going on but for him to step in andh3 do that for the people, it is awesome. >> i am relieved but i actually talk to a couple of conductors whom i feel bad for them because they're working without a contract and it seems like an awfully long time that they cannot seem to resolve that, and i don't quite understand that. >> reporter: that is the key question here, what are septa and its unions going to do in the next eight months which they have in the done in the past five years to reach a deal or the next strike will hit when colleges back in mid semester, kids are all back in school and cold is back in the air and maybe snow back on the ground, when getting around, without your train, and using a car, is going to be way worse then it is right now. odd to that the other vick i

can victims decide that hey, we have more leverage. for the first time in the 50 years history all strike at once and shut the the whole system down and crippled this cities transportation system. >> what a mess. >> steve, thank you. investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that killed six people in new jersey on fathers day this fire broke out 4:00 o'clock yesterday morning in newark. a 15 year-old boy, his mother and four others died, the teen and his mom are visiting newark from georgia, to honor the the boy's late father. a second home was also destroyed in that fire. everyone in that second home did make it out safely. investigators say the fire does not appear to be suspicious. here's a story you will see only on fox, police are trying to identify a group of kids they say punched a man if the face. >> they say the attack may be part of the so-called knock out game. fox 29's jennifer joyce is now live at the upper darby police department and jennifer, you have a look at this video for us.
7:06 am

7:09 am
check this out. kasem introduced the nation to american top 40, he pioneered the count down, telling store business artist and introducing long distance dedication. this is way before the internet. >> and the count down begins. >> number 40. >> casey, could you please play waiting for a girl like you from mark to barb so she knows she's worth the wait. thank you, mark hess. >> kasem stayed with the program until 2009. he was also the voice of shaggy and scooby dooo. he was just amazing. he also, mastered the art of the tease, in radio, you always want people to stay on the radio and listen to you and he mastered the art of the keeping people locked in until the the next element.
7:10 am
another thing, lot of people don't know about casey kasem he was in the a big fan of the music he was playing on the radio but he had a passion for the art of radio you can never tell. he was always prepared, always had knowledge about different music and artists on the the show and it was a sad loss for just radio. >> we all counted down with him every single week. we would list men and count down top 40. >> he even had a television show. >> thanks, kacie. >> good talent and good self pro mother as well. jet blue apologize to go a massachusetts mom for a messy preflight mishap. >> here's what happened. mom's name is jennifer devereaux. she said a disgruntled flight attendant refused to let her three-year old daughter to get up on the bathroom. the plane is not flying. the the child just could not hold it and she urinated on the seat despite the mom's desperate pleas. deborah said the the flight attendant yelled at her and reported her to the pilot
7:11 am
asking that she be removed from the plane. she was allowed to stay on board. >> you know, that kind of stuff doesn't really matter to me but i did want an apology for my family because we were really feeling like we were mistreated. >> jet blue has reached out to deborah and her family offering a 50-dollar credit and $5,000 to the charity of her choice. >> fifty bucks. >> and the charity thing that makes it better. it is 7:11. we have this developing story, that situation in iraq. u.s. is partially evacuating its massive embassy in baghdad and send nothing some troops to protect those that remain. >> karen, of course this comes amid what many describe as a worst case scenario playing out in the country. fox 29's doug luzader joining us live from washington to discuss the growing tensions and doug, this grew, over the weekend. >> well, there is no question. this has been moving very, very quickly. we saw imaging like these posted on line, and the
7:12 am
terrorist there in iraq using social media, to kind of spread the word of their violence and these images show what are believed to be, iraqi soldiers, shiite iraqi soldiers in civilian closing and they were gathered together, transported and by the looks of these photos they were all executed. this is certainly, fanning the flames of violence there in baghdad especially where you see a lot of people now rushing to join th iraqi army trying to mount a counter effort to draw a line in baghdad, if baghdad falls all bets are off but iraq as a nation has more or less, disintegrated. north has been taken over by this terror group isis which is an off shoot of the the insurgent forces in syria. it is just not clear at this point what the united states is going to do. we have talk about the embassy and threat now that it faces. some personnel have been evacuated. marines and soldiers have been
7:13 am
deployed to protect that embassy but boots on the ground in the largest sense has been ruled out by the obama administration. it is in the clear whether we will see air strikes or some kind of measures here to backup the iraqi government, after that, it is possible that this government could fail, which is something that the united states clearly does not want to see happen. chris and karen, back to you guys. >> those pictures are so disturbing. they are saying about 1700 iraqi military were killed in and dumped into mass graves there the march just continues over the weekend, two more cities fell, mosul and tikrit. >> and want to be clear the pictures we are showing, these men alive but there are very gruesome photos on line that showed the aftermath on this and the belief is that the designed to inn flame tension there is and interest is doing that. this is something that will not come to an end, very quickly. the the terrorist have a lot of money and they have a lot
7:14 am
of resources because they are taking over iraqi military assets as they make their way from the north to south. >> wow. >> all right. >> back to the future it looks like in iraq, we're reminded we went to war with them in 2003. doug luzader, thanks very much. rescue workers in germany are working against time to rescue a man trapped inside a cave. >> he fell thousands of feet. this is a five two-year old man in that cave for more than a week. officials say he fell and injured his head while exploring a cave. the the cave is more than 3,000 feet deep. doctors assisted by 200 rescue specialist. i had to climb in the cave to treat this man and make sure he was well enough to bring him out. it has happened again for the fifth time, these san antonio spurs are the nba champions. spurs finished off the the miami heat last night with the convincing 104-87 win to take

2003. we're counting it down to summertime, the official start of the season, the sum are solstice which also is the longest amount of daylight during the the year. it is five days away, this saturday june 6:51. looking forward to that. after that days start getting shorter but we won't dwell on. that it is high pressure. it is in control today. it will stay in control of our weather. it is a weak cold front. it will get some wet air, colder to us, closer to us as we get closer to the end of the afternoon and into this evening. here's what i mean. some rain is coming, but it probably will fall apart before it gets here. not tomorrow and not on wednesday. we will get hot and humid and we will have pop up showers and thunderstorm both afternoons. that is what we meant. so, that is the trade off. you get heat and humidity and pop ups every day. we will get a variety of

shore, from the shore i should say, we have some congestion, this morning, on the 42 freeway northbound from the atlantic city expressway on up. so it may not be a quick ride home from the shore if you put it off until this morning. average speeds only 19 miles an hour, chris in that area. >> all right, thanks, sue. meantime high school graduation, with triple the fun for one family in indiana. >> this is a group of triplets, graduating from the top of their class at wayne high school in fort lane. one is valedictorian and the other is the soluteoria and third squeezed in at number ten. >> unaudible. >> he helped me a lot more than i helped him. i do think he deserves it more. >> can you imagine, being the one that comes in number ten as opposed to one and two. they will go to college together. they will be studying at
7:20 am
purdue university. they do not plan on living together in the same room but they do want to be in the same residential hall. >> kind of funny one that came in number ten will be probably the most successful. they will work harder. still ahead you are trying to eat healthy but is that putting you in danger? top foods that can be deadly if you are not careful. >> pretty surprising. >> but first growing debate over legalizing marijuana in pennsylvania. a bill is making its way through the state senate right now. some say it is all about the money but others worry about the the moral ramifications where do you stand on this.
7:23 am
welcome back. septa trains are running. we will have much more on the one day strike coming up but over the weekend, also happening on sat take was this, university of pennsylvania school of law played host to the forum on legalizing marijuana the state general assembly is working on legal says right now and legislation to that end.
7:24 am
legalizing medicinal marijuana draws both supporters and critics. joining us now to discuss this topic are talk show host dom giordano and pennsylvania state senator daylen leach who sponsored senate bill 528 to legalize marijuana let's get into this quickly. mr. leach you represent montgomery county. talk about what your regulate mar yawn a act would do in pennsylvania. >> well, there is two separate issues. there is recreational and medicinal. 528 is recreational mar juan bill which would essentially legalize marijuana i view current prohibition as a cruel, heartless policy which puts 25 pennsylvanians in the criminal justice system every year at a cost of hundreds of millions all for smoking a plant that is far less harmful than alcohol is which we sell as a state. and then, of course, medical marijuana is a separate issue about getting people in medicine they needless harmful then medicine we give them
7:25 am
instead of this these are just attempts to be rational in our policy on this issue. >> you rationalized this with look, the toothpaste is already out of the tube in states like washington and in colorado specifically. and why not get on the band wagon here, and bring in some revenue to the state. mr. giordano where do you stand on this, is this more of a moral issue here. >> it is a medical issue, first of all, i think day len talked about conn flighting, doesn't tell us about some of the medical risks, chris. journal of neuro science say casual marijuana smokers have have significant abnormalities in vital brain regions. daylen knows that is out recently. people will go nuts if we have this in pennsylvania. i think we ought to way, day len to see what colorado cost first and some of the things happening there even you would have to admit are rather disturbing in some places. >> what way. >> the marijuana, chris, there have been big problems with
7:26 am
that. people have had difficulty, also, the traffic incidents, dui's have gone up 13 to 14 percent have of those that are stopped for dui are around marijuana smoking. so, let's wait and see what colorado does. why not another six months to see how it plays out there before we jump in to their. >> would that be a waste of time, daylen. >> every day we have prohibition is an injustice. people lives are ruin. if you air rested for marijuana and quick not only might you go to jail but if you don't you can never work in the public school again. anytime you go for a job you have to check the box saying you have been convicted of the crime. this is destroying lives. but if i understand dom's argument we shouldn't legalize marijuana because it might be bad for you. well, there is, marijuana will never be a tenth as bad for you in so many ways as alcohol is. >> well, wait a minute you don't know that. how can you say that. i mean i think that you are against smoking and smoking with kids and prohibition around that.
7:27 am
this is smoking. isn't that something that gives you cause right there. >> so do you think we should make cigarettes illegal? should people go to prison for smoking cigarettes. >> what i'm saying is you are down playing this and up selling what happens if you are caught for marijuana right here in front of these studios the penalty are right. we are not putting any kind of crime for mar juan. my bill is a statewide bill. it is a special program in pennsylvania. people are still arrested. they have been arrested when they applied for jobs. >> isn't that what you should be pushing before that we lower the penalties on this rather than telling kids, thinks okay. >> no,. >> how do we tell kids in high school don't smoke you are telling them it is not a big deal. >> first of all what we does we create a black market which is why it should be legal n1 ever wants their kids to smoke or drink or have sex until they are 50. but that is not the way the world works f my children every buy mar juan a don't want them buying it behind the bowlingal friday some guy name
7:28 am
greeny. >> let me step in for just a minute. if you can kind of come between you two with this, as a parent of young children. my kids are nine and six. i remember when i was that age as you can share this sentiment i'm sure. we were always told that marijuana was one of those tab buys. cigarettes and alcohol were legal. marijuana was different. it was elicit. it was controlled. it was tab buy and we were not to do it. now as a parent i struggle with this because i know how dangerous alcohol can be. how many times have been reported here on fox 29 dui crashes and deadly ones at that. it is a changing landscape. i understand the financial argument. i understand it is a challenge for people to come to terms with legalizing marijuana would i like you each to weigh in on that and talk to parents out there. >> i would i it is obvious. you made the the case that i'm making. we realize thinks not heroin. we are not dealing with cocaine. i couldn't seed that. this is not a lay up. this has consequence. you hit some have of them.
7:29 am
i taught high school for a number of years. i saw freshman before they started smoking marijuana and after they smoke marijuana the results are obvious. they are subtle but they are obvious. >> you have the last war. >> they are not south until alcohol. the fact thinks we continue to have this prohibition plan. if you have young children as i have young children and if they try marijuana do you want them to try something dangerous that is layed with something else or do you want them to be arrested and have their career ruined for the rest of their life because they chose to smoke a plant as opposed to having a beer. it is an insane irrational policy and it is going away. ten years from now there will be no prohibition in america. >> we will see how this debate plays out in the state. senate bill 528 could be debated in harrisburg. gentlemen, thanks both. >> thanks very much. >> thank you, chris. still ahead, can you go too far when you are planning your wedding. too big, tooe lab ambulate. wedding preparations now, getting complaints fro

earlier today, the fall of tall a far comes a week after militants captured iraq's second largest city mosul and saddam hussein's hometown of tikrit. >> let's bring in fox's brett bear to talk about these disturbing, growing crisis that we have. we have 5,000 people at the embassy that we have got to move from there, brett. >> that is right, chris and karen, good morning. it is a dangerous situation, one that the state department and u.s. military are mobilize to go deal with. they will pull back and down scale the number of people at the baghdad embassy, u.s. embassy in iraq and they are also moving positions, u.s. navy vessels in the gulf. aircraft carrier the george hw bushies already there. and there are three other u.s. navy vessels that moved in the gulf, some with marines on board to be able to evacuate the embassy completely if need be. so this situation is a tinder

box and these sunni militants led by this group that is more radical, believe it or not, than al qaeda is taking over city after city, on its way it appears to baghdad. >> so speaking of baghdad, brett, i mean how uch is likelihood that baghdad will fall because we saw with mosul that these u.s. trained army soldiers basically laid down their weapons and put on civilian clothing and ran even though they greatly out numbered this military group. >> yeah, a lot of those northern troops were sunnies, still loyal to iraq. what had happened is that apparently, according to experts, prime minister maliki a shiite leader has hallowed out the the force and strongest elements are inside baghdad protecting him. the the other parts are not essentially answering to any of the command. and, they have fall's apart.
7:35 am
one expert described it like a house with a bunch of termites inside and just hallow on the outside. so, i think that you are going to see baghdad really be a big standoff for the iraqi army and you may have iran elements in there which is of concern to the u.s. as well. >> wow, we have to see how this plays out. only escalating in the last 48 hours. brett bear, thanks very much. 7:35. thanks, brett. lets get a check of our weather because that is a pleasant diversion for us. >> yes, and wait at the bus if you do still do have school and there are still kids going to school thanks to the snow days we had over this horrible winter. it is a very, very nice morning out there bus stop buddy wearing shades, polo shirt, temps in the 50's and 60's this morning. in your weather by the numbers we will go up to a nine. we had two, ten's over the weekend but we will be warmer. heat is on all week long.

fathers day, fathers spend more time with their kids. for the first time in 40 years working dads are spending an average of half an hour, 35 minutes a day, with their children. may not sound like much but huge jump from back in the day in the 70's when dads carved out five minutes a day for their children. how about moms, how did we do. >> back then mothers only spent 15 minutes with their kids. today that time has increased to about an hour. i have have always heard it is not about quantity it business quality. the the latest psychology, you know, readings on this because my wife is in the early childhood education. if you can really focus and spend a concentrated connecting time with them it goes much further then it would if you just spent time hanging out doing nothing. >> sue serio. hi q. sue says is there a time you can talk tour kid in the back of the car. you work morning, nights. you have that time. do you feel like you get that quality time now.

>> second choice. >> yes. >> now, we will be here tonight, andy rodkick. >> he will do a tennis exhibition. unified tennis. >> amazing. so yesterday was fathers day. it was a very special fathers day for you because you had one of those athletes in the stadium last night. by had i mean your son was there. >> my son sean was there. he gave me a big hug behind. before they marched in for fathers day. very proud moment to watch him march in with his teammates from team new jersey and 3500 athletes from around the country, and very moving. we had a great ceremony. we lit the flame of hope which one of the roots started the liberty bell here in philadelphia one in new york city. went to the statute have of liberty. last night culminating with the law enforcement lighting a torch. the flame in the prudential center. >> you talk burr son. you said off camera, 15 years ago he was right on top of you, wouldn't leave your side.
7:48 am
now he police swagger athlete and in opening ceremonies. >> last night i went over to him. he said see you dad i'm having fun. he marched in with his friends of team new jersey and they are staying over at college new jersey in the dorms having a ball . >> it is cool. so there is a lot of people that might be watching and they're like i cannot make it this week or make it to a certain event but they can get involve. we have talked about this a couple of times. many of the teams that will play our unified teams meaning special olympic athletes fall in the same team as college students and adult volunteers and you say that is a great way to get involved. >> ten of the 16 sports competitions are unified here this week. everybody can come out, new jersey people watching, pennsylvania people watching, come on out, college of new jersey here at mercer county park system to watch our remarkable athletes. >> sometimes these teams go on and they rack, right. these college kids wish they could play on a team like this so successful. >> it is funny, they volunteer to be involved in special olympics and by the end of the
7:49 am
season they have formed this bond and they are december friend and they get more out of it then our special olympic athletes do. >> really cool. >> all week andy roddick you talk about there is at the let's here. but other thing is new york city will play a major role in this event. there will be amazing boat cruzs every night. >> great special event, every night one group of a thousand people athletes and coaches will go on a cruise around the statue of liberty up and down manhattan sky line and we have the boardwalk, college of new jersey, we call it special olympics. iconic jersey shore, ride and games and entertainment. >> here's my other thing, guys, he said, you know, many athletes 800 of them were flown in on private jet. yes. >> maybe the event was a new jersey event. also on fox. but these athletes got the the top shelf treatment last night. >> 800 of them flew in on the special olympics .
7:50 am
their bag ended up on their dorm room bed. they were welcomed by tons of volunteers just like the guy when they came into that little game in february. >> thanks very much. >> thank you. >> we will be here all week as you said and big special on "fox sports" one, later in the month. >> looking forward to that. >> thanks, jen. >> sue serio. >> it is a beautiful weather we can see out there for them. >> i'm telling you for the ceremonies yesterday and for the day-to-day, it is still not too humid. so enjoy it, right there or if you are still at the shore, perhaps you just could not wear for weekend to be over or just there anywhere for senior week anyway it is mid 70's, along beach with the westerly breeze, a land breeze, and 66 degrees for our surf temperature. it is a low kip current risk to day. things have gotten better since the weekend and a ten for uv index today so wear that sun screen. here's ultimate doppler. there is nothing to show you as far as rain is concern unless you see a few drips and flags in indiana.
7:51 am
for today we have sunshine and a few clouds tonight. you will see rain starting to get through about seven or 8:00 o'clock. we don't see that all holding together though in the overnight hours although we mentioned a stray shower tonight. tomorrow after we get up to 90 degrees during the day we could have pop up showers and thunderstorms, maybe five or 6:00 in the evening. wednesday we will expect to get above 90 degrees, pop up showers and thunderstorms, you know the drill. 67 degrees in philadelphia at the the moment and we have temperatures cooler to the north of us, still in the 50's, very comfortable this morning and as we said humidity isn't a real problem. temperature trend over the past five days, remember last friday, we made it up to 86 degrees but then it was gorgeous over the weekend with 76 on saturday. eight third degrees yesterday. what about today. we are heading to 88 for a high temperatures. it is a nine. two, 70's on tuesday because it will start to get uncomfortable with the humidity and possibility of
7:52 am
pop up showers as we showed you on the future cast. now thursday and friday still unsettled but temperatures will be back down into the 80's, so it is only a flirtation with these hot and humid days of summer. it should be 80 on saturday. eighty-two sunday. we will work than that weekend forecast all week long and is there your seven day from the weather authority, let check traffic right now. time is 7:52. we have an accident on the route 42 freeway, northbound near 295, it has the left shoulder blocked there. so that will slow you down. in chester pa that is a disable truck on i-95 northbound partially blocking on ramp to highland avenue. always crowded right there anyway chris so it will slow you down this morning. >> thanks, there. to snoop or not to snoop do you resist urge to go through your partner's phone when you are not there we have four reasons you should simply not do this. but first you try to eat
7:56 am
there are added benefits to sleeping n researchers say extra sleep help hung are pains and prevent cravings for fatty food. scientists say the key, is wrapped eye movement, during sleep, which, suppresses appetite. >> the longest you are up more you are eat. >> have you noticed on this shift you crave more fatty salty sugar foods. >> snacks. >> yes, yes. >> you know that too if you work shift work. also, speaking of foods good and bad for you. this is so shocking to me. there are things we love to eat that are dangerous. they have compiled the list of the world's most dangerous foods. >> i was shock when i read first one here leafy greens.
7:57 am
>> what is wrong with my lettuce. >> recognized as one of the healthiest foods but a study public earlier this year shows leafy greens cause more cases of food poisoning then any other type of food. i'm guessing here that is why they always say watch your leave leavey greens properly. >> buy them prewash. e-coli, such as. that we have a farm share. sue is part of the farm share. trying to find out what to do with rubarb. that is within of the most dangerous foods. the leaves have poisonous toxins whether cooked or raw in the leaves. experts advised to throw them away. >> yes. >> so when you have pie you are eating kind of the stalk that is chopped up. >> yes, like a celery stalk. >> i'm afraid to eat it. >> we have heard of the dangers of have peanut allergies but 1 percent of the population suffers from the allergy. still it is most common cause of food allergy death. so it is rare, but still very serious. >> if you are that 1 percent
7:58 am
it can be deadly. we always hear about hot dogs, choking hazard, that fast growing issue with hot dogs. little baby, they warn but. that we will eat them all summer long. they say, be very careful, pediatricians specifically, because they are the fifth food-related asphyxiant for young children. they get stuck in the throat. >> we know about the dogs, keeping them from chocolate. it is guilty pleasure of most human. the the chemical in there can cause you to be sick. it could be poison fuss not well processed. keep from it dogs. they cannot process chemical at all and it can kill dogs. >> delicious. coming up in the movies over the weekend we had beautiful weather a lot of people went up on the and saw the movie. we had lah great big blockbusters. >> we had kevin mccarthey talking about 22 jump street. he gave it four and a half stars. number one at the box office. sure enough for this fathers day weekend, sequel to the 2012 hit starring channing
7:59 am
tatem and joan a hill, earned money. how to train a dragon two came in number two. >> i'm surprised it didn't come in higher. i thought how to train your dragon would have been big money maker over weekend but 22 jump street did really well. >> number three, angelina jolie's film. >> maleficent earning number three spot there. >> how about the edge of tomorrow. >> how about it. >> i don't know a thing about that, it did well, 16.2 million. other one well talked about my mom saw this one, the the fault in our stars. she says it was fabulous. >> speaking of that, she came over and told you where to put your furniture and pictures and your dad on fathers day god to do your handy work. how many projects do you give him on fathers day. >> four. >> my daddies a handy guy. he likes to be useful. sue was joking around what will you get your dad for a gift. he will get to do projects might house and spend time with the kid. he did. thank you dad. he is a handy dude. >> what a good dad. >> lets bring in that sue
8:00 am
serio. lets get another hour of this show as we come up upon 8:00 o'clock. >> reporter: here we are, beginning the cooling off period for septa and its train conductors and engineers but when it turns really cool in february that is when all of septa could be shut down and system watch strike for the first time ever. so enjoy these rides, while they and the next round of talks last. sue? >> steve, it was cool, comfortable at times over the the weekend. perfection. can we keep it going for one more day? we will have your weather authority forecast coming up, karen. >> thanks, sue. you can catch in on a simple lesson we have learned early in life, sharing your stuff, and it can lead to big money. our financial experts shows us how we can save up, quincy. >> to snoop or not to snoop. some are guilty of going through our partner's fans. coming up, we have four
8:01 am
reasons why that is not a good idea. >> i know quincy is a creeper. you know it. you know it. good morning to you chris murphy. >> it all comes down to trust. good morning on a day after the fathers day. thanks for being with us. it is a hot one sue at that. >> we've got summery heat on the way, as we lead up to the first day of summer which is saturday. >> yes good are we playing 90's music. >> yes. >> give it up for tomorrow. so that will be the day we will hit 90 degrees. pluses of today plenty of sunshine and not too humid. the heat is on. you will need to wear that sun screen today because we are into the longest days of the year. there are still some kids waiting this week, especially because we had all those snow days this winter. it is more distance memory. bus stop buddy is in his polo shirt with temps in the 50's and 60's. nice morning. we are at 72 degrees.
8:02 am
we are seeing temperatures sore. do you see relative humidity at 64 percent. that is not too bad. it was dad's delight yesterday with 83-degree high but we will beat that today and get up to 88, yes, warmer day and then tonight we're down to 68 degrees with a few clouds here and there. that is your fox cast, once again, today is a nine out of ten. now lets take a look at traffic for this morning, if you just woke up, kacie is off today, so the morning rush hour is underway, now you can see on this map how the slow down is on the major roadways, coming into the city. slow downs, are, i should say, the average speeds in most areas, is under 20 miles an hour. and we have an accident to tell but, it is in norristown an east germantown pike at arch street and another accident in plymouth meeting, on butler pike. this ace lot of sun glare guys, be careful. with a little push from president obama himself septa
8:03 am
regional rail services are back on track, no pun intended this morning, following a one day strike from over the weekend. >> lets get out to steve keeley with the details on this one. a big sigh of relief that maybe we are holding our breath a little bit as well, steve. >> you'll see that breath at the next strike probably in february and you heard sue mention the traffic moving at 20 miles an hour. that is a whole lot better than bumper to bumper stop and go we will see if this strike was continuing today and having double the amount of cars down the schuykill and i-95, and trying to follow septa in all 17 different unions witt and different strike possibilities, like solving a rub exit, and back in april we were out here on the same block reporting a threat of the strike by city bus trolley and subway staff until they decided to keep working and talking. suburban train staff falls under the the federal railway labor act. that gives the president the power that he used over the weekend to order them back to work and two sides back to talks. it gives everybody eight
8:04 am
months but not many are too optimistic that there is more time talking that will somehow suddenly have septa or its staff likely to cave-in. suburban rail riders and all riders believe it or not could be stranded longer than a summer saturday starting in mid wintertime. >> i work under minimum wage, yes. i really don't know. i have been calling out a the lot. i have would have tried to call a friend or car pool or something but i'm happen that i they are backup and i'm happy that the president did step in and make it happen for us. >> i think they deserve contracts. they key serve to work hard. electrical workers and ibew workers, they have been out a long time without a contract. they deserve a contract. they deserve a certain raise and pension benefits. i think they both need to know that and work together and help the general public who are the ones that suffer. >> reporter: so this eight month cooling off period and all this mediation end in february and everything that the federal panel working for
8:05 am
the president decides is non-binding. meaning nobody will be forced to take any recommendations on a contract that they put forward. so february the next suburban rail strike possibility w no deal for rest of the 17 septa unions in the city is done, they have the leverage and strong possibility that all septa unions could shut down the whole septa system for the first time in septa's 50 year history, come february. so, riding bikes, walking along street way to the skew cool, i-95 and other streets around philadelphia look, way worse in a snowy february then a sunny warm june when people are taking off, for vacations to begin with. imagine this, the city's blue collar workers like those rail workers without a contract for five years could decide to join them and have no trash pick up, no snow being plowed off the streets and imagine all of that, all of the leverage these 20 or so unions have together if they decide to get together and strike and finally say we need a new contract. we have nod hat raises for
8:06 am
five years. they have had power together. we will see if they use it come february. >> if the sympathy strike happens it would just, paralyze the the whole region. >> yes. >> thanks, steve. we will long battle with parkinson's and dementia, casey kasem has died at 82. >> kasem's daughter released a statement early yesterday saying legendary dj passed away surrounded by his family and friends. back in 1970, he introduced the entire country to the american top 40. he pioneered the count down story telling stories about the artists and introducing the long distance dedication. >> and the count down begins. >> number 40. >> casey, could you please play, waiting for a girl like you, from mark to barb so she knows she's worth the wait. thank you, mark hess. >> kasem stayed with the program all the bay until 2009. did you know he was voice of the cartoon charger shaggie in
8:07 am
scooby dooo. >> he first voiced him in 1969. year before that he got his voice over today buy as robin in the cartoon series of batman and robin in 1968. and then, you talk about the top 40. but we really grew up with him, because he was ubiquitous every where. did he voice over work for listen to these company cheveron ford, oscar meyer, hoover vacuum, vel sleet, joy dish washing, heinz catch up, press tone, it goes on and on. we grew up with his voice. >> his name was mired in controversy at end very as he was having health problems. we talk frequently on the good kay show about the wife and battle with the daughter about his care. so it was not unexpected that he died, but certainly a sad passing for a legendary icon. >> he died on fathers day. now fight begins. his estimated network is $81 million. so we will see. >> yes. >> a family in jackson, mississippi is outrage after they say they were thrown out
8:08 am
of the kfc because of their daughters appearance. >> this little girl is just three years old. she was mauled by a pit bull and terribly scared. she and her family stopped by and got chicken. they went to the kfc ape grabbed a bite to eat. allegedly they were told to leave the restaurant because the toddler, was scarring the other customers. this allegation was made on the facebook page that following the little girl's recovery from that pit bull attack in ab. kfc has apologized and donating $30,000 towards her medical bills. they say they are investigating the incident, but if they are giving money out, maybe there was some truth to that as well. >> yes, if they are giving out $30,000 they are admitting they were very, very wrongy cannot imagine, someone saying that poor little girl. a little child. garden state, thinks exciting for people in new jersey. we have a new miss new jersey. >> now, we may botch her name but it is spelled as you can see c-i-e-r-r-a. >> sierra. >> sierra taylor jones. >> yes.
8:09 am
>> what you said. >> she's from galloway township atlantic county. she took home the crown, saturday night at the ocean city music pier. the rutgers student won a 12 you this dollars scholarship and other prizes and she will get to compete in the miss america pageant in atlantic city come september. >> so beautiful. >> is there a rule about beauty queens. they have to have the most gorgeous smile and perfect teeth. >> yes, they do. >> like our kacie mcdonnell, most beautiful smile. >> i could have won with that smile. >> thank you. still ahead, big change for facebook, moms, combo ahead, you can do it, put on those breast-feeding pictures if you would like. coming up. what do you mean. >> i don't know, people are so weird on line. >> well, people are weird, the backlash that forced social network to rethink its policy. but first we have been tweeting with this. this is one of our favorites. he have is so wonderful. eagles linebacker connor barwin is coming in and
8:10 am
planning to rehab a south philadelphia park. he does so many great things for our community. he will tell us about that big event that he is also hosting this weekend. keep those pictures coming this morning, we'd love to see what you did over the weekend. of course, fathers day was sunday, you nose what is great about facebook, you talk about facebook, i don't check it all that often these days but i love the photos of everyone i know when they were little kid with their dad. i love those. >> yes. >> pictures. >> they rock this morning. >> use the hash tag fox 29 weekend we want to see
8:13 am
beautiful weekend but there were some dangers in the water. strong rip currents created dangerous conditions for swimmers this weekend. life guards rescued three men in ocean county after they were caught in the powerful current. other jersey shore towns are reporting similar water rescues. no serious injuries. great work by those guys. authorities warn anybody going down kids getting out of school this week be careful heading in the ocean. good beach weekend.
8:14 am
>> we may need to cool off today's buoy said 66 degrees. we have an improvement though in the forecast, for today because our forecast does have slow, rip current risk so that is a good thing. what is very high? the uv index. it should be a bought full day at the shore but you have to put on that sun screen. is there a surf temp. westerly breeze land breeze at the the shore. ultimate doppler, high pressure in control. it has kept us sunny each day of the weekend and should do the the same for today. future cast does have later on this afternoon, you see some rain knocking on the door of lancaster and berks county but falling apart before it can make it here. it would all happen while sleeping anyway. tomorrow hot hot and humid and we will get up in the 90's, tomorrow which means pop up showers and thunderstorms throughout the the afternoon. same thing happens on wednesday in the 90's pop up showers and thunderstorms.
8:15 am
we have cool temperatures in our corner of the country but we have made to it 72. it will be a warmer day. sixty-five in mount pocono. a couple hours ago temperatures were in the 40's. 71 degrees down in dover. the temperature trend over last five days had its ups and downs. we got to 86 degrees. cooled off to 76 on saturday and yesterday 83. but today, still not excessively humid. 88 degrees. but it does come back tomorrow and hot both days, of tuesday and wednesday, where we're in the 90's and thursday and friday bank in the 80's and over the weekend maybe not as perfect as past four or five weekends have been but we will see better temperatures and more comfortable with the possibility of pop up storms. we have time to work on that. is there your seven day forecast, it is time to check traffic at 8:15 and there is a down tree closing balligomingo

that is how it works. >> what about your car, i don't know if i want someone using your car. >> you have a big hung of metal sitting in the garage. lets say you take the train to work. you don't use it during the week. all these on line services have popped up like relay ride for example you can list your car. they screen renters looking at traffic violations and things like that. they arrange payments. you set how much you will accept for the and if someone rents the the car, et cetera, and beauty is using mobile banking you never have to have touch money or worry about is the renter going to owe me money or pay me because it all goes through pay pal and the bank account. >> i get that part with the house with the air b and b but with the car is there wear and tear. you hit potholes or anything like that. >> is there insurance that they provide for those things in case something goes wrong but you are right. the car will get wear and tear
8:34 am
but factor that in the price you are charging. >> how about stuff that doesn't have wear and tear sitting in my garage forever like my bike can i share my bike. >> bikes are big believe it or not. so anything you don't use very often. your bike. chain saw in the back of the garage, right. the lawn mower. those things. they are really popular. camping supplies believe it or not really popular because people don't want to buy that stuff for one weekend camping trip. they would rather rent it. through web sites and apps, neighbor goods.com, you can list your stuff all anonymously and using gps technology potential renters will know that in their neighborhood you can arrange to meet you set the rates et cetera. really cool idea. >> what about the tax implex applications here can this be considered income. >> there is three things to watch out for. first chris you nailed it. taxes, if you earn money off of your stuff keep good record because chances are you will
8:35 am
will to have report that as taxable income. no doubt bit. secondly we always talk about this on good day, we want to be safe. we don't want to take someone's name off the bathroom wall. use a legitimate service. >> in any regard. >> yes. >> use legitimate services where they are available. finally number three you want to make sure you never meet someone in private or anything like that. use good common sense. >> thanks, sir. >> have a great day. >> 867-5309. >> thanks, dan. >> bring on the canolis you are the don. >> all right, buddy. hey still ahead it may be best day of the year because today is, national canoli day who but that how good are they with the music. they pulled that up. that is my favorite with chocolate chip with the classic but is what your favorite, share with us on twitter. >> well, reason why we are playing the godfather music from 1972, famous line from

8:41 am
there were signs that things were not all that good and might have been reason why i would be concern in the past but maybe but if the trust factor is there why snoop. >> many folks are guilty of this one time or another, karen but your significant other is in the shower and you have a quick minute to glance at their cell phone or check their facebook page, some people even tell you this is an unfortunate reason how they found out about an affair. so they don't regret snooping but i have four reasons why you should not engage your partner's privacy. first one snooping is addictive. we all know this. karen? the more you do it, the more you associate it with finding relief. >> it is trust, and then verify. that is what we do whether it is diplomacy or whatever it is. i trust and then verify. >> we shouldn't do this. the second one is it is a lose/lose situation if you find something you'll feel guilty.
8:42 am
if you don't fine something you'll feel guilty. you'll keep going it. it goes back to the first one as being, very addictive. the third if you want a trust worthy partner you have to be trust worthy, karen. you can't want somebody to not be loyal to you and you are not loyal and snooping through their stuff. >> trust and then verify. >> i don't agree with this one. you could put other confidential information at risk such as work-related things. i don't believe that. say your boss send you an e-mail and your partner reads the the e-mail thinking it was something for something else, and then you can get in trouble at work with you i'm in the big that one but karen, you should not snoop. it doesn't help a marriage or relationship. >> thanks, quincy, i will try to snoop less. >> glad you two aren't married. >> dawn imagine. >> it would be hot. it would be hot. >> it would be a hot mess. >> heck yeah. >> still ahead special
