7:09 am
that doesn't always mean that that wasn't the initial reason somebody may have attack her, and could have been as scared off before they got the chance, or the opportunity to finish what they started. now, police say kill did he put dna in, if to see if it matches any other crimes, killings, rapes, not just here, but that will come around the country. remember they caught a guy who did commit a rape in penny park park in indianna once, that's how that data base works, hopefully will work against in this case. >> absolutely. steve, thanks. clock 09 the time. police in camden need your help finding missing eight year old boy. >> jeremy seen late last night leaving his home, north 44th street with his mother and a bell. the picture of both of them. mother doesn't have custody of journey. last seen wearing orange shirt with shark on it and green camouflage pants. his mother was wearing a gray dress. if you see them, call police. it turns out revel casino

7:33 am
the effort, and making the statements he did yesterday about the certification of the $120 million for the sales tax. they had until december 31st to do that. he announced it yesterday. but advancement is actually money's that we talked about earlier in the summer, we've already built that into the budget. and so that does not -- that does nothing to close the 81 million-dollar deficit. so we still have that issue. >> so remind us where we stand right now. we have $80 million deficit. we're waiting on the cigarette tax, which could bring 40 million. and even if it passes, we're still 40 million short. >> that's correct. and we've always said that there are other savings, there is labor, there are a lot of other things that we must do, or that we should be considering, in order to close that gap. and, cigarettes can bring in, between, somewhere between 40 and 70, both numbers have fluctuated, but every month that we lose on cigarettes, that number decreases. >> , so where do we stand with
7:34 am
the cigarette tax? >> well, at the moment, it is not passed. and it is moment it is the legislators haven't given an i am case to me that they've changed from coming back september 15th to take that up. >> we had you here in our studios monday morning, you say you had been working the phones all day. yesterday you met with some of them. >> right. >> what happened yesterday? >> well, for every person that i met with, i reiterated the importance, and the urgency around getting back together, as -- and i'll use the mayor's term, for one hour, to do one vote, on one bill, and if, in fact, we can get that done, then we will have the revenue from cigarettes, and then we can begin thinking about all of those other things, as we prepare for school opening. >> another other things including bridging the $40 million gap. are there any plans in the works thousand bridge that gap? >> yes. we have quite a few plans in the works, including as you
7:35 am
heard from the president of the pft, the pft has been at the table. they have been walking, we've been negotiating for some time now. >> being the teachers union. >> which the governor had harsh words for yesterday. >> he did indeed. yes, i mean, it was governor corbett, he had the harsh words for the pft. we had been negotiating. they've been at the table. by the same token, it is important to understand that a contribution to benefits could generate $40 million for which will allow the district to put those monies back into classrooms. >> so is the union going far enough then to meet the governor halfway here? >> well -- >> in making concessions, in your estimation? >> well, we have still been negotiating for 16, 17 months now, and we are still negotiating because in my opinion it has not come far enough in terms of providing revenues that we can put back
7:36 am
in class. >> so lets ace bring this home. if our parent after child in philadelphia schools, schools set to start here on the eighth of september. how are we looking with that? >> yes, so we've -- so yesterday's announcement changed nothing about the fact that on or before the 15th we're going to announce just kind whatever we're doing, trying to wait as long as we can, to ensure that we can predict as much as we k and we want certainty. if in fact something will happen between now and then, we want to include for that. but we have -- we are considering a loft things. the delay of school openings, shortening the school year, the reduction of teachers, and staff members, and schools, the elimination of programs, or resources, all of these things are extremely hard to do and it is our desire, it is my desire, to ensure that we do everything we possibly can to get children into schools on the first day. >> so many unknowns. right now, it doesn't look so great. because time is really ticking
7:37 am
pretty nasty point. >> time is ticking. we feel like it is really important for us to communicate with parents as early as we consideration we've said on or about before the 15th we plan to make an announcement. >> well, good luck to you. there are a lot of challenges ahead, we appreciate your time, doctor. good seeing you. >> and, coming up: yes, a surprise soldier wedding proposal. you have to see. we'll be right back.
