afternoon. >> even with the sunshine, very bright, outside. this morning, we'll have clear skies, and we're off to the chilly start. sunny, comfy days, chilly nights, for the rest of the work week. but by the weekend we do have a warming trend, in time for the last day of summer sunday. today's high, 75 degrees. >> big story seventh street, water main break, doesn't look like a road, looks like a river. and the road is closed. so ninth street will be your alternate there. now, us1 eastbound, near us route 30, i should say, eastbound near 113, there is cents an accident that has the left lane blocked. ill definitely slow you down. and route one northbound, just after belmont avenue, a city line, there is going to be one lane blocked there, at 9:00 a.m., they're removing a tree. mike? >> all right, thank you.
8:03 am
i was just looking at twitter, during the commercial there, twitter is a buzz with this story. philadelphia police are trying to figure out who brutally attacked two gay men in center city, last thursday night, on 16th street. >> and they've now released surveillance video of the possible suspects, fox 29's steve keeley live at central detective, steve, what's the latest? >> reporter: well, mike, i want to keep it going with your word a buzz, it stunning like a bee almost instantly, as soon as surveillance video was put out. show it to you once again, just waking up, they put this outright before the dinnertime news hour, around 4:30. and soon as it was out, they had names to go with these faces, within an hour. now, i want to show that you still picture you guys shows last hour. what happened first was somebody looking on somebody else's facebook page, said hey, the people at this party somewhere, they didn't know where at the time, look like the same people in the video. then they started matching faces, and outfits, and notice
8:04 am
the guy in the blaze orange red kind of flyers colored vest. you will see him as we go back it the surveillance video, because he walks close to the surveillance camera. then, others, as somebody posts cents that on twitter say hey, i know that left distinctive wall. i know that sealing, i knows though seaned leaves, that's live vie old a then they notify the police, that puts this group on 16 street where that italian restaurant is, four blocks exactly from chancellor street, where the surveillance video was taken and where this gay couple just bumped shoulders with many in this group, and then got taunted with gay slurs, and that got beaten to unconsciousness on the street. here's what they told us earlier this week what police told thus week. >> bunch of people, bunch of people, which makes it very sad, one, overall situation itself is something that is completely senseless, in this time that we live in today, people to end engage in something like this, just senseless. it is minds blowing. so, again, it is a large group, so we want to get them
8:05 am
all off the street and find out what's going on. >> we honestly want these people brought to justice. this is not fair. >> anybody that was a part that far group, they know whether or not they actually physically played a part in the assault itself. they did not, then again, i would suggest that they come in, talk to central detectives, and again, you know, express what took place that night, their involvement, or their lack of involvement, but either way they need to come in. >> well, the outrage on this case reached heights police say they've never seen before in all of their years as detective here on the streets here. a crime of times we thought were long past. so outrageous, this restaurant, pennsylvania six, right at 12th and sansom, said we got to do something. they put out $10,000 reward, well, no one called in for that reward, to match the 1,000 of the citizens crime commission put out. no one asking for any money. just asking the justice be done. and so, we can tell you this. melanie joy kramer the excellent producer for national public radio, at 10:30 last night within five hours of that surveillance video putting out had an
8:06 am
excellent story how twitter may have helped track down the suspect, from a philadelphia police surveillance video. she posted her story at 10:30, got 100,000 views, now, in less than ten hours. so, we are learning that twitter and facebook and just public outrage all coming together helping the central detectives here do their job, finding these people, and now we're told a lot of these people will be turning themselves in here shortly. >> yes, it is an amazing story, and it is a 2014 type of story, i think it is going to be national story later today. thank you. here are comments, all over twitter. no place whatsoever for behavior like this. >> mike -- >> throw the book at him from another. >> like steve mentioned, a lot of people are coming together, the community is, specially on social media, in the 7:00 hour we talked with fans really involved with matching the photos or matching the people in the photo on facebook, and twitter, and trying to do that
8:07 am
cross-reference, to figure out who exactly could be involved with this. so he just said -- >> becoming a twitter detective. >> he just said it is the decent thing to do. so real great to see everybody coming together to try to help police figure out who did this. >> and the picture, the surveillance video, and then this still from the restaurant, of the group before minutes later they went and beat up somebody, that, those pictures, are being spread all over twitter. >> re tweeted by everyone. >> okay, and the police say they appreciate all of this work by this specially this one individual. respiratory virus, spread across the country, like we new it would do, and now it is here. delaware earlier this week, now philly. children's hospital of philadelphia, confirms, four children tested positive for what are they calling it? >> the enterovirus 68. >> that's it. they had to be hospitalized. >> the virus can cause mild to severe illness, the symptoms are similar to the common cold, but kids with as is ma
8:08 am
have been specially vulnerable. now, no deaths have been reported, but they want everyone to make sure they're being careful, and make sure to be watching for those symptoms. philadelphia schools may be closer to getting much needed fun. state house committee vote in the favor of 2-dollar per pack, okay it after stripping it out of other unrelated tax hires and tax credits, has been put in the bill. final house vote could happen today, but actually, we just house of representatives, will happen monday, tan would then go to the state senate. he fully expect representative verb observe this will be passed. >> one of the reasons, lots of the lawmakers want to go to the funeral of that fallen state trooper. it is 8:08. well, the minnesota vikings have reversed themselves. >> about face. and they have banned star running back, adrian peterson from all team activities now. >> ordered to stay away from the team while addressing the child abuse charges, vikings made the announcement early this morning, after initially
8:09 am
deciding that peterson could play with the team while the legal process played out. peterson is charged with felony for using a wooden switch to spanning his four year old son. >> get this. other nfl players are weighing in, one of them reggie bush, look what he said. >> the detroit running back, coming to peterson's defense saying he should be allowed to play. when asked about the abuse allegations, bush talked about disciplining his own daughter and he said i definitely will try to. obviously not leave bruises, but i will definitely discipline her share shallly depending on what the situation s of course his daughter very young. >> like one. >> why that's what is getting a the love people talking about that, at what point do you start punishing your children? when is too young? >> my goodness. harshly? wow. has it sparked spanking and discipline debate. >> all over. >> and a lot of it goes back to the bible. so we've asked our father jonathan more toys way in on there is and will be here in just a little bit. >> 8:09. would you book your wedding on
8:10 am
the same day as an eagles home game? for some couples big no no. why brides are planning their big days around football. >> like i mentioned, best selling author, father jonathan morris is on the show this morning, we're talking about the adrian peterson controversy. and what the bible says about disciplining your kids. a lot of people relate this to the bible. we'll find out his stands, on that next, that should be really interesting.

8:14 am
for the next couple of days, 43 degrees now in the poconos, we were in the 30's last hour, 48 in bet him, 50 degrees in allentown right now, walking out the door. in doylestown, it is 50 degrees, 59 in bensalem, waiting for the bus in chester, about 53 degrees, 59 in philadelphia. fifty-eight in hammonton, up ear's cape may, millville, and atlantic city. so that's what is going on for now. here's what's happening for later. we've got three, ten's in a row, even with cold front coming through on thursday, not going to see any rain from it, it will just cool things down for friday, but then it warms back up over the weekend. in fact, back to the 80s, for one day and one day only, and that is sunday, when we play with eagles play washington, on sunday, i'll get it out. 84 degrees at the linc. chance of rain monday, cool things down, by tuesday, but it really does look like a lovely, lovely weekend. that is the last weekend of summer. seven day forecast, there,

8:16 am
we've heard the phrase spare the rod spoil the child. so why don't we clear this up. what does the bible say about punishing or disciplining your children? is it justified, one of our good friend, jonathan morris, joins us now, welcome to philly once again, father. how bow answer that? >> thanks, mike, alex. the bible does talk about that, and let me read it to you very quickly, proverbs chapter 13, who ever spares the rod hates their children but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. now, of course, weaver to take it into context. then what i would say any punishment, whether it is physical spanking or some other sort of discipline, it is cents done out of passion orange err, never good, never, ever good. unfortunately i would say 95% of the spanking that happen are done when you're angry. let me tell you a story, mike, in my family, my dad used to always give us a option, a spanking or get grounded. that already takes the passion out of it. i would always take the
8:17 am
spanking because then it is over with, then you're not mad at your parents the whole time. but of course, a difference like you said, mike, between spanking and a beating or whipping. this is really -- >> where blood was drawn and these wealth marks and stuff lining. that will i just wanted to you way in on it. thank you for doing that, father. now, i'm play a clip from one of my favorite shows, seinfeld. this goes back way. but i remember you this. >> all right, mike. >> joey, some of the neighborhood kids, they ambushed me with a box of -- >> so are you all right? >> oh, fine, fine, serenity now. serenity now. serenity now. >> so you're using frank's relax aches method. >> anger melts right off. serenity now. >> serenity now. >> but it is difficult to have serenity. so i love this new book of

yours, father, the way of serenity. how do we get serenity into our lives? >> actually thought of that, as a title, but i knew i couldn't get away with it. bookie wrote based on the serenity prayer. grant me the is her ten at this to except the things i can't change. and the courage to change the things i can and the wisdom to know the difference. i believe it is such a powerful prayer, because it is a window into the heart of god. that this transformation of our soul where we can be serene, serenity now, no matter what we're going through, that is a tremendous gift. but, what i tried to do, walk people through what does it mean to actually except those things. not a passive thing, but embracing the tough things in my life as part of god's plan for me, then secondly courage, what is it, how to get it, and then wisdom. which is really the art of discernment. >> go back to the prayer there. it is hard. i mean, i am having tough time right now in my life, and it
8:19 am
is hard to let go the stuff you don't have any control over. >> yes, it is. absolutely, mike. and when you say it is hard, i think in part it is a gift. that's why it is a prayer. we are asking for the gift. we're asking for something we can't get on our own. that is prayer, it is a petition, it is lord help me. i need your help. and at the same time, he is always looking forward a collaborator, for us, to use all of the gift he's already given to us to do something big. >> where can we get the book? >> go to amazon. right now or go to barnes and nobles or whatever you would like. but i hope it is a blessing to all of you your viewers. >> father, probably see this weaken. thanks for being in philly for us. >> you got it. >> what else is coming up. >> still ahead there is ask not your typical drive-thru, the quick and unconventional way people in detroit saying their final good-byes to their loved ones. >> are you kidding me? >> first, national
