association. thank you for joining us. >> good morning. >> what are teachers doing? >> well, i think the first thing, education is the -- and i'm a big fan of engagement. that's how public education got its start. >> as a parent myself, i have one school where they still pay for most of the supplies and the other where we have to buy it all and bring it all in and help our teachers. >> it varies from district to district. sometimes the district supplies
9:05 am
supplies. [ audio difficulties ] >> look what happened in philadelphia where they had to go out and raise funds to buy paper and ink for classrooms. >> thank you so much for joining us on this morning and bringing us insight into this difficult thing. thank you so much. a popular playground in south jersey getting a lot of attention these days. jake's place a playground where kids with and without disabilities can get together and play. sabina is live in cherry hill this morning. what's going on out there? >> they have a walk and a run right now under way to try to raise money for a second playground here is what it's all about. check out this gorgeous play area for kids of all abilities. you guys are having a good time. >> yeah. >> what's your favorite part
9:06 am
about this playground. >> mostly everything. >> reporter: and you get to play with kids with disabilities, kids without disabilities, all taking part together on this playground here. you see that? this is rubber. it's not mulch. so if you're in a wheelchair, you can get out of play. it really makes a huge difference. right now we are joined by the executive director of jake's place, if you're from south jersey, you know about this. what is it about you know getting kids of all abillties together? >> people are still segregated around the country so this helps bring those groups of people together. >> reporter: you know what i love about it? we were talking about this before. it's not just the kids. it's parents. if you're a parent with a disability, you can come out here and play with your kid. >> i was born with a disability
9:07 am
myself. it's nice to bring my niece out here and to access all the equipment. i'm so proud to be a part of it. >> reporter: we're so proud to be here with you guys as you do this 5 k run and walk raising money for a second playground over in delran. >> good news going on out there. >> also our producer, always looking for things that are new and interesting. this one is near and dear to my heart. beer could be good to our brains? >> according to a new study, scientists say they have discovered a beer that could help cognitive function. the problem is to replicate the amount of beer that scientists gave mice, you have to drink 2,0 2,000 liters of beer a day.
9:08 am
>> that's a lot of beer. >> you know they say it's an acquired taste. >> what's your drink? >> wine. >> red or white? >> red. they say it's healthy for you. >> keep the selfies coming. >> also ahead, eagles fans gearing up for tomorrow's big game, will the team win their fourth game in a row? officers caught on camera tazing a teen on his knees with his hands behind his head. were their actions justified? >> before you say i do, you might want to say what's your

score. talking about your credit score. when you get married, certain things change and certain things stay the same. your credit score stays the same. credit scores are always attached to an individual. there's no such thing as a joint score. another area of confusion about credit and marriage is how you relate to your partner's credit card company. you are not authorized automatically. in fact if you're married, your partner still has to call the company and make you an authorized user. that can help if one of the partners has shaky credit to try to build that person's credit back up. and finally one of the things you want to do is make sure if you change your name, you check your credit report to make sure everything is correct. oftentimes errors occur when someone changes their name. use those tips after you're married and the honeymoon will last longer after your first credit card statement.
9:13 am
the teenager taserred by police. investigators say the teen had been speeding up to 120 miles per hour to get away. the 16-year-old finally stopped and surrendered. on his knees with his hands behind his head. the officer hit the teen with a taser. the officer was suspended. there are two issues that don't pass the reasonableness test. to do a pursuit with speeds up to 120 miles per hour is absolutely insane. not only do you put the officers at risk, you put the general public at risk. the second part of that, is when you're stopped and the 16-year-old gets out of the vehicle, he's on his knees and his hands are behind his head, there are no threats. that does not pass the reasonableness test. that is totally unacceptable. that's my take. all right. as promised, we're getting to
9:14 am
our weather. but we have teased earlier. there's something on caitlin. she is kind of a buttoned-up one. >> tattoo, wing and gauge? here is our big reveal. check it out right there. she's got these beautiful, shiny, almost indian-looking beautiful gold, are they tattoos? >> they are flash tattoos, which means they're temporary. but they are serving the purpose of satisfying, maybe i do want a tattoo without the permanence. they're metallic. you can put them all over. so i have one on my arm for a wedding a couple of weeks ago. got a lot of compliments on them. maybe i'll start wearing them each week.
9:15 am
we've got big foot 129 send us this beautiful sunrise picture. that is confirming what a nice day it's going to be. i know the summer is over but we're still talking about some beach weather. your saturday forecast, sunny and mild. again on sunday, sunny and warm, 78 is the high temperature down the shore. we'll show you the seven-day forecast. 82 today, 83 on sunday. so really feeling like summer. we see the clouds and the cooler weather coming in by monday. 77 degrees and we transition back into that fall-like weather. so the roller coaster ride here, we're back down only into the upper 60s for a high temperature next friday. >> eagles fans gearing up for the san francisco 49ers. we've got john and shawn skyping with us this morning.
9:16 am
>> my memory doesn't work as well as it used to, but this is the most fun that i can remember a season starting off in a really long time. you look at the way the winning game which is in the second half, coming back. i absolutely think they can win this game until proven otherwise, this offense is one of the biggest stories in the nfl. >> and when they do go out there tomorrow and get the victory, improve their record to 4 and 0. all you've got to do is win ten and you're in the playoffs. home field advantage. >> that's right. >> whoa. >> don't say the s word. >> i'll stay away from that word right now. >> you guys also find some of the best pictures that are out there in sports. what do you have for us this morning? >> yeah. that's right. well, this was tweeted out first by eagles starting line baker. as you can see desean jackson wanted no part of that fight during the washington red skin
9:17 am
game. i love it. a picture is worth a thousand words. it's 2014, now you've got hashtags and titles on top of it. desean comes off as being a gangster wannabe. you don't need to be in there with jason peters. i can't blame him. but it comes off looking a little wimpy. >> that's right. >> moving on. this picture was great. sharing one together. john elway was asking chip kelly about sports science. is this the next thing in the nfl, two guys taking a hot tub together. >> that's not a big tub. >> you're not at the spa where you can have two guys in the tub. the problem here is shawn is a copycat kind of guy. i came into work the next day he's trying to arrange a tub to
9:18 am
come in. no, no, no. >> and he's a hand some man by the way. >> he is. >> and finally, yeah. even though we're not in new york, you've got to show a little love to the captain, derek jeter. it's not about the 3,000 plus hits he has, not about the five world series rings. you know what it's about? it's about the long list of beautiful babies that he's been rolling with since day one. i mean, my goodness. o captain, my captain. we salute you. >> he never got in trouble for anything. he's never really been in the tabloids. for that stuff alone, we've got to give him thumbs up. >> tyra and mariah. >> have a great show today and we'll check in with you next week.
9:19 am
>> right on. >> an important warning for computer users everywhere. this is one you won't want to miss. there is a a bug. what you need to know to protect yourself. a respect for your morning, bill withers. >> this is the trend. >> we talking about practice, man. what are we talking about? >> you know practice. >> you know he said practice. >> not a game, practice. >> 20 times in that one press conference. >> we talking about practice. >> and it all came coming back this week courtesy of a little girl. >> practice, practice. >> she is so cute. this is a sport's writer's
9:20 am
daughter and it has become a hit. >> not a game, not a game, we talking about practice. >> ryan dennis is here with us now that talked about a moment that had cuba gooding taking off his shirt. >> the rules are simple, you get three chances. and for cuba, the third time is the charm. >> well, one good thing, i guess. she didn't have to take her shirt off. >> sometimes the cheerleaders hold a paper banner and the players run through it. >> somebody thought it was a good idea to make it plastic instead of paper. you know over 200,000 people viewed that online this week.
9:21 am
9:24 am
good morning. it's the last saturday in september. remember if you want to hear something during our show, tweet us your music request to fox 29 weekend. we just got one, "someday" from nickelback. nicole is working on it. >> we love it. no better karate instructor on this one. thanks for showing this one off. we kind of think you're a good looking human. >> hey. >> raising our mug to you. thank you for sending this. so they're so much fun. >> time now for our fox box. here is how it works. every friday we set up our fox box and invite people to sound
9:25 am
off about some of the hot topics of the week. >> we're going to take one of our photo journalists who can do more than just take pictures. one of the things that people were buzzing about, paula deen's big comeback. >> it's been more than a year since she stepped out of the spotlight. you might recall, critics slammed her after deen revealed she had been suffering from diabetes. and then there was a discrimination case. she's back with an online digital network. will her fans forget the past and give her a fresh start? we'll see. >> reporter: a comeback could potentially be a very compelling story, right? it's almost like a fall in the eyes of a public and then a rise. and if she could somehow make it clear that she sincerely regrets her actions and she has changed as a person. >> i feel like she has put a lot of effort into it.
9:26 am
she was on tv, very apologetic, crying, she showed a lot of emotion. that's something that happened so many years ago. >> it's not my place to say whether or not somebody should succeed. i'm not going to support her. not for any particular reason other than she doesn't have anything, she's not offering anything that i want. >> how about that one. you don't want any butter? >> make sure you follow the #fox29weekend hashtag. >> we'll bring you the week's hottest storiers. >> you're allowed to complain. if you've got a gripe you don't like, you can call us and you can actually leave us a message and if it's clean, we wul well put it on the air. here is the number. one of my favorite songs right now.
9:30 am
>> we're also listening to requests for a perfect weekend as this last weekend of september. where does this month go? >> i know. went from summer to fall and this weekend could feel like summer again. and of course if we take a live view outside, bright blue skies the back drop. it's gorgeous where ever you turn. guess where shawn is going? beer fest. he wants to know, do i need sunscreen for my bald head. it's an important question. the answer is yes. whether you're headed to beer fest, didn't we just have a story that beer is good for you? that's where i'm going to head. ultimate dop lor doppler, we are jumping and fast. we started at 60 degrees just
9:31 am
less than two hours ago in philadelphia and right now we're at 67. 64 in millville, 62 in atlantic city. you do need that sunscreen all day long. 62 this morning but we're at 75 by noon. 82 degrees will be the high temperature later on. temperatures well above average and certainly feeling like summer. we'll have a return of fall-like weather coming up in your seven-day forecast. >> new this morning, four people have been killed. this happened in a bus crash. this was on i-35 in murray county, oklahoma. a bus filled with softball players from texas collided with a tractor-trailer. at least 15 other people were injured. no word on the cause of that crash. >> and airlines are scrambling to rebook people on flights after a fire forced cancelations across the country. police say there was a man who intentionally set a fire at a air traffic control center.
9:32 am
that shut down flights at two of the nation's busiest airports and it created a massive ripple effect all over the country. >> it is a beautiful day. we're going to check back in with sabina live in cherry hill new jersey. with jake's place playground. how is it going out there? >> it is going great out here. take a look right now, at this medal to win here at this 5 k run and race. for kids of all abilities. if you're in a wheelchair, in a walker, you can get out there and play with kids who are not. and it's really an inclusive type of program, not exclusive. that so many people with special needs sometimes face in this day and age. we spoke earlier with some parents here who had kids with disabilities and what they love is they can put their kids out
9:33 am
here and they can be on the playground with their kids. even parents with disabilities can also get out there and interact with their kids. you don't see a lot of this in our area. but about 12,000 kids in south jersey have special needs. so the need is there for this type of thing. they're trying to raise $600,000 to build another special needs playground. rather an all inclusive playground in delran. we're hoping today they're reaching their goal for another playground. that's the latest here in cherry hill. >> did you know there's a new computer bug that could allow hackers to literally take control of your computer or devices? it's called the bash computer bug and it could affect millions of people. so what do you need to know? we decided to bring in our tech expert on skype this morning. anthony, a lot of people worried about this one. good morning to you.
9:34 am
>> good morning. and yes, they should be. because security experts have ranked this a ten, which is the most severe ranking you can give a virus. and on the other side, the ease of executing it is low. it is near the bottom, which means that if you have limited computer knowledge, you might be able to take advantage of this exploit. >> so what happens? i mean, how am i at risk for this? how do i know if i have this thing or if something could happen. >> this is one of those very interesting ones where you yourself are at risk because of the people that you do business with and the websites that you visit. so there's nothing that you could do to protect yourself. you just have to hope that companies that run web servers, that take your credit card information, medical information, anything like that are running the patch and making sure that they are not compromised. >> we talked about computers. could this also affect my iphone or other devices.
9:35 am
>> that's a very interesting point. we do not know yet, but a lot of the mac software is based off of this code. therefore every iphone user could become a victim. i'm not saying the iphone has it. the research hasn't showed yet. but it's a definite possibility and that's scary. >> isn't there something i can do to protect myself, some sites maybe i shouldn't be visiting or is there any kind of security setting? >> if there's any sites that you visit frequently, you might want to call the company and see if they're protected and aware of this bug. the second thing is something that i always, always recommend. you should have some type of identity theft protection. in this day and age with everything going digital, you need to do that to protect yourself. you need to look for weird activity on your credit cards. you need to check your medical records. people could actually change your information if they get access to these files. it's a real crap shoot on this one, unfortunately. >> if they can take over my
9:36 am
computer, they can just look at pictures of my kids all day long, are they going to be access my money or things i really care about? >> absolutely. let's say your bank has an online banking component and they're affected by this bug. the hacker gets access to the bank to transfer money. they can get bank account information and other personal information that can allow them to make credit cards or other types of things to ruin your credit score. >> the last thing before we let you know, is there a larger group looking into this like the government or what can we do to make sure this isn't a major problem affecting so many of us. >> funny you say that as well. i've been getting so many e-mails from other security experts. everyone is on high alert. they're saying this could be worse than heart bleed which happened over the summertime. that was very intense and it hasn't happened yet. but this could have bigger consequences. you can surely believe the government and all security agencies are working doing
9:37 am
everything they can to contain this. >> something else to worry about on our saturday morning. >> always something. >> thanks for your time. we appreciate it. of course for more tech information, we always have information available on our website. >> karen, everyone at home, you know when you see people out drinking, not just a way of being fancy anymore. the social media campaign that's behind the new blue pinky promise.
9:40 am
>> welcome you back. some of our viewer photos. that picture is so cute. it looks like someone is missing their mug. that little guy is sleepy but he's happy to see you. isn't he adorable? >> i love the babies. >> emma turned one this week. happy birthday beautiful baby. >> adorable. >> also new this morning, we do have news we want to bring to you this morning. incredible video that comes to us from overseas. a volcano spewing ash high up into the sky. >> it happened in japan prompting the government to warn
9:41 am
climbers and others in the area. >> pennsylvania police are saying the suspect in the deadly ambush of a trooper had been planning this attack for years. eric freen's internet searches included sites of how to avoid policemanhunts as we've been seeing. he is accused of shooting and killing one trooper and injuring another. two weeks ago, there is a massive manhunt that is still continuing. >> bill and hillary clinton are now grandparents. chelsea clinton has given birth. she put it out there on twitter and facebook. >> the announcement said the couple is full of love and gratitude. it's always a special moment when you have your first baby, right? >> this is something so neat as well.

9:45 am
>> as we have kids it's more important to take time for yourself. just because we're moms doesn't mean we need to lose our sexy. >> if i'm going to school pickup, i put on my big sunglasses and lip gloss. no one has to know. i'm not giving in. >> absolutely, smoke and mirrors is fine. that's what we do. clip in a little fake hair, whatever.
9:46 am
it's fast, it's easy and it makes a big difference. >> we are all too familiar with the power of social media. some of the biggest movements are born online. we're focusing on one campaign and if you have a young daughter, niece, sister, friend, you may want to listen up to this one. there are tweets and facebook posts scrolling at the bottom of your screen, all of them from young girls and woman across the country who have all taken the blue pinky promise. what is it exactly? secret has a mean stinks campaign. you'll like what secret is doing here, right? >> i'm such a fan of this campaign. i love it. i say blue pinkies up all day every day. >> can you explain to moms who may not be familiar with this what this is all about?
9:47 am
>> well, secret has started their mean stinks campaign and it's basically to spread awareness and spread nice among our daughters and teach them to take this pinky, the blue pinky promise pact, whatever you want to call it, together, polish their nails blue or just one pinky blue, and make a pact that you're going to be kind to one another. >> you took it one step further and said that we're having a paint party in my living room. talk about what it was like for your daughter. >> they had so much fun and they're already planning on a way to figure out how to get larger groups of girls involved. i know in our local area, there's some great groups of young girls that would love to participate and we fully intend on doing that some more. >> you guys did a video too, is that right? >> we did, oh, my gosh. we did our very own psa for secret mean stinks and i hope
9:48 am
they see it and love it and i hope that other girls will follow along and want to do the same. >> mean stinks, pass it on. >> mean stinks, pass it on. >> we're ganging up for good. >> mean stinks! >> pass it on. >> very cute. sometimes things happen on social media and they kind of become trends and they die down. do you think this is something that will keep going with young girls? >> i think with the help of moms and with young girls who are ambassadors, i think they will keep going. and i think itsz our job as moms and also young women out there to help our daughters perpetuate kindness with each other and learn that girls got to stick together. girl power! smart girls rule. >> you're a good mom for doing this. making it fun for your daughters. i have on gray polish but i'll
9:49 am
make the pledge too because mean does stink. >> thank you for having me. have a great today. >> if you want to join in on any of the campaigns like mean stinks, you can always tweet us at #fox29weekend and let us know what you're doing. >> thank you, lauren. we are getting so many pictures from down the shore. you can do the ac boardwalk wine promenade. a great event happening down there. we're taking a live look at our neck of the woods. a light breeze that we can see. >> doesn't it look pretty there? we have a pretty weekend for you. we've been talking about the events going on across the delaware valley from festivals to races, whatever it is. but some of you just want to get in a golf game and we're here for you with your forecast. get it? we love the puns in television. i did get a tweet from jim shields 2009, he says he's
9:50 am
playing this morning in bluebell. and we're giving this one an excellent for your golf game. hopefully your game is as good as the weather. and temperatures right now in the 60s, but they'll jump, if you have a morning tee time you'll look at temperatures rising. we're looking at 73 by 11:00 a.m. it is going to be very warm. 78 degrees by 1:00 p.m., 81 by 3:00 and later today, we're still at 80 degrees at 5:00 p.m. so it's a beautiful golf day and it's beautiful for anything you might have planned, which might include the phillies. last two games of the season. it's a 7:05 first pitch temperature we're looking at 77 degrees. but those temperatures will fall pretty quickly as sunset is now before 7:00 p.m. let's look at that seven day forecast for you. a very summer-like weekend. 82 today, 83 on sunday. a little bit warmer tomorrow. certainly a beach weekend. we transition to some cooler
9:51 am
weather as we head to monday, and we're back into the low 70s, more normal for this time of year and feeling more like early fall. by light next week friday, we see high temperatures only in the upper 60s. lauren? >> we could not be more thrilled about our junior reporters here on fox 29 weekend. these are some of the best and brightest college students from across our area putting their skills to the test. joining us now samantha crawford a student at rider university. >> i met an adorable german shepherd who is training with a family in mount laurel new jersey to be matched with a blind person for assistance. >> reporter: for many a dog is a member of the family. >> she's going to be here for another eight months because she's training to be a seeing
9:52 am
eye puppy. she's ble paired with a blind person. >> reporter: canines must learn basic exercises. examples are the figure eight. and come. i'm standing next to the honorary statue of buddy, the official first guide dog for the seeing eye foundation centered in morristown, new jersey. guide dogs have a playful side as well. >> they're not always in the harness. when are regular dogs. they go out and play. and do things everything a puppy would do. these dogs are more than just pets. they're strong, faithful companions and it's a special thing for a person to put all of the love and affection and time into raising a puppy and do it for someone else.
9:53 am
and these dogs really make a significant difference in a person's life once they're trained. >> what a wonderful story. >> it really is. one thing i find so inspirational is the seeing eye organization is not government funded. they rely solely on donations. it is the most old seeing eye organization in the entire world. >> we appreciate it. if you're interested in joining that program or helping out some of the seeing eye dogs, we put a link on our weebt where you can get more information. >> our juniors are top notch. one of our favorite stories of the week, one we've all been talking about. it's the pep talk one football player gave his daughter as she bravely battled cancer. >> you can request anything you like.
