8:02 am
new town, pennsylvania. is it going to be sunny? our last game was canceled because of the rain. please answer my question. >> we'd love to answer your question. i feel your pain, the last two saturday morption were so rainy you couldn't get the flag football games in. you should be able to by today. by the way, if you went to send us our video, just make sure you include the hashtag. we'll put it in just like lee a. starting out in newton square, pennsylvania, i'm happy to say all the games were a go today. we had a couple of rainy mornings in the past, today is actually pretty much. temperatures are comfortable mainly in the 50s to 60s degrees. it will breezy by noon. our temperatures hit early in the afternoon cool air starting to come in by 3:00, 64 degrees
8:03 am
there. our big story will be the cold air rushing in through the rest of the weekend. right now doppler shows some clouds and showers through portions of the northeast. this upper level system will bring the sharp change to our temperatures tonight into tomorrow. some of those showers extending into central pennsylvania, maybe north and west. otherwise i think we stay dry. mid to low 50s. 59 in philadelphia, 58 in millville. again, that high temperature for today will be 68 degrees. it will be pretty gusty this afternoon. 46 is all for the low temperature. it's cold tonight, much, much chilly for sunday. we'll have much more in the forecast straight ahead. > thanks very much. we have this growing developments this morning. the president is now looking to try to calm fears that so many of the american people have. in his weekly address the president discussed what the country is doing in response to the deadly disease.

so many people are hitting up social media trying to understand if there is anything we should need to worry about or if they should be taking any special precautions to protect their families. we have received hundreds of comments about this on our facebook page. there's so much confusion. if it doesn't spread when the symptoms are not showing, then why did the cdc put 143 passengers on notice and then also require that plane to be decontaminated? the nurse came down with a fever the day after. so dr. mike, how about that? what do you think? >>reporter: well, the questions is if the nurse was taking care of an ebola patient like she was and with all of the hyperand the concern, it may not have been the best idea. now from a purely medical point of view, karen, it is hard to transmit this virus if the patient is not symptomatic. you have to come in direct contact with body fluids.
8:07 am
it's not like the flu. so if you're on an airplane, karen, and you have the flu and you sneeze and you cough, it's very transmiscible. so the likelihood is that this is not a problem. but given the sensitivity and concern right now, probably not the best idea for the cdc to say, oh, by the way, you just were a nurse working on our case one ebola patient. > right. >> not a policemen. why don't you fly to honolulu. probably not the best thing. > everyone is talking about it and everyone is so worried. are we adding to the concern about this? here's another comment from one of our viewers who wrote on facebook. >> fear mongering, influenza is much more dangerous. > is it fear monday goring. people are really concerned about this. is this something that we need to be worried about? >> i think, karen, yes, the flu
8:08 am
kills 30,000 people a year every single year, but there is concern about ebola because we have to understand it kills 50 percent to 70 percent of the people that get it. > yeah. >> so if i had my driewters, i would much rather take a flu and ebola. i mean, if someone said, mike, doctor mike, you're going to get sick and you can pick. you can have the flu or ebola, i'm going flew every time. > all right, doctor mike, we've got lot of people with a lot more questions or don't go anywhere, but come into the studio because we want to answer some questions. we are going to see you shortly because he's going to be here for the 9:00 questions. if you have questions and we do because it's such an evolving situation, we're getting more information every hour it seems. you can tweet your questions, post your questions, use that hashtag, fox 29. even if it's on facebook, that's how we can find your comments.

their boss a card. i areally appreciate it. are you serious? okay, so yeah i know. can you believe that? not your idea. let's bring in jen. she got a card. i was me that got it. i have it here. nicole is a wonderful boss. jen, i know you've had an awful boss in the past. the card went around the news room. i don't want to sign it. this one, i thought we needed to acknowledge her. >> really? > that's all you got? >> now that we're here you got nothing to say. > you guys are big good day during the week watchers, who isn't, first l all. we were trying to do a story to get people to complain about their bosses because at the end of the day i don't run home and
8:55 am
say. the fact that we are trying to rub up -- >> that's excuses. and then you want to love and kiss and inspire and help each other, that's great, but it's not what you wanted. i went to jen's boss about this whole thing to see what she had to say and my confrontation. >> i'm used to it because everyone around the station is hashtag this, weekend this, we're all stepchildren to this little hashtag. that's the way it shiewrd be, hashtag fox 29 weekend. hashtag this fellow employee. > it's all about us. >> karen wanted to dance on camera. here's the thing, you know, if you guys want to be all love i and have a hashtag love fest all weekend, we love to sit in our jammies and watch because that's super fun. i thought it was a little over the top. cards and love poems for your

boss. save it for your boss is all i'm saying. >> maybe it's because i don't have a spouse. is that why? > and let's find lauren a boyfriend. >> we do. all right. jen. we do have one of our viewers who responded i would not advise we love our boss. >> thank you. we get a lot of grievous philly's sports fans. one of their news papers has crossed the line. this is a story you'll see only in philly, coming up. we're all tired, so doesn't a nap sound perfect right now? no, you may be doing it all long. leading sleep researchers say
8:57 am
three things pha*b matter, one, the time of the day you take your nap, two, what time of day are you napping, three, where are you napping, on the sofa, or in your bed. doctor mike, let's be honest, if you're tired and your schedule clear, isn't a nap just a nap? actually taking a nap will help reduce your sleep debt, if you will. it has to be done in the right way, though. it needs to be less than 30 minutes long because if it's more than that, you go into rem sleep and you'll be groggy the rest of the day and you won't be able to do your job. secondly, it needs to be between the hours of one and four. that is the optimal time to get that nap in. so naps, okay, as long as your boss lets you do

> so many of us are really concerned so we decided to have dr. mike come here. he is here as we speak and he's answering questions. if you have questions about ebola, about the transmission of it, anything that's on your mind you can facebook us or tweet us and see if that hashtag fox 29 weekend. that's how we find the questions and doctor mike will be here to answer them live. the first, let's get a check of your interactive weather. we're taking a live look from our camera at the philadelphia international airport. this morning a question from miss caitlyn. my name is caitlyn from broomall. i want to know what the weather is going to be like for saturday because i have a flag football and a soccer game. >> thank you so much, kef i'm. we'll be happy to answer your question. we had one last our, another pint-size one. you can send that to us through twitter, interest grament or facebook. just don't forget the hashtag. happily, kevin, you're going to
9:02 am
have nice weather for you. the past two saturdays have been rain ian we had a lot of games that were washed out. that's not the case today. we are showing a colt frond out towards the west. as far as what's going on right here in the delaware valley we've got sunshine, we've got clouds and showers moving in from the west. he don't think we see any rain today, maybe a sprinkle up in the poconos, otherwise this cold front should be a dry passage. meaning you may see the clouds, the winds pick up, the temperatures will fall later but we should have a nice looking day. the sun is coming through. winds will increase out of the west. we could see some gusts up to 30 miles an hour at times. right now it's comfortable. the temperatures are mainly in the mid to upper 50s. if you got the kids eds games or somer and around town, not too bad.
9:03 am
63 in wildwood. your fox cast for today, we should hit 68-degrees. although i think we hit that earlier in the afternoon. temperatures fall later as the cold air returns in. for treatment temperatures back in the 40s. that's about a 10 to 15-degree hit. 46-degrees will be the low temperatures under some clouds. sunday is looking very, very chilly. we've been tracking this. we'll have the latest. > we've got this developing story right now that we are following this morning. it's a growing concern over ebola. the president is trying to calm some of the fears that so many of us. in his weekly address the president discusses what the country is doing. disaifd is outside the national ipse stiewts of health. good morning, dave. good morning to you. it is the second full day of nina tpa*pl's treatment here at the national institutes of health hospital in bethesda, maryland. tpa*pl is a 26 year old nurse, the first to contract ebola
9:04 am
after caring for patient thomas eric duncan in dallas. he recently tied from ebola. tpa*pl was thrown on a specialty outfitted jet. she is now in is lays here in bethesda with two nurses in her room at all times. doctors say she is in fair and stable condition. her treatment here in bethesda comes as lawmakers have been debating possible -- a possible travel restrictions and assistance in west africa. president obama discussed those issues in his weekly radio address. finally we can't just cut ourselves off from west africa where this disease is raging. our medical experts tell us that the best way to stop this disease is to stop it at its source before it spreads even wider and becomes even more difficult to contain. trying seal off an entire region of the world, if that were at all possible, could make the
9:05 am
situation worse. it would make it hard to move healthcare supplies back and forth. it could change effected people to change their travel, to evade screening and make the disease even harder to track. the president went onto say the united states will lead in the global response in west africa. now, if you have questions about ebola, you can facebook us or tweet us, doctor mike is in and he's answering those questions. just use the hashtag fox 29 weekend. guys x back to you. our cover story this morning, a big debate on our facebook page. a night of fun and drinks at a bar turns into a horrible nightmare for a maryland woman. police say she meta man. he went home with her and the two had unprotected sex seven times over a three-day period. here's the catch, police say the man, 28 year old daniel cleaves knew he was hiv positive but never told her. police areleasinged cleaves. s now out on bale and waiting to go to court. the story lit up on social media

sites. for us, mills read it, thousands shared it and thousands more left their comments. joining us now on skype this morning, katie cease inner from take back the night. thanks so much for joining us this morning, katie. >> you're welcome. out of the 4,000 comments on our facebook page, most people are blaming the woman. i wanted to get your take on that. >> great question. i think it's important to think about the difference about somebody's faults versus what's against the law. it sounds like a lot of people had good values or good judgments, but even when we don't emphasize the same values or good judgments it doesn't mean we should have the law broken against us or additional punishment for our bad choices. here's some comments. i wanted your interaction on this. isn't this the consequences of having unprotected sex? i mean. it is sad she most likely had
9:07 am
hiv and she didn't know the man and slept with him for three days. it's base her fight. your reaction for that. >> i think it's pretty clear and asking someone who knowingly has a disease to, you know, reveal that up front helps us make an informed decision about unprotected sex or not. personal preference about taking a risk for pregnancy is not the same as taking a risk with somebody that has a deadly disease. colleen writes i'm sure he isn't the first man she's brought home from a bar, play russia roulette and you're going to get a bullet sooner or later, harsh words. >> if we refers the genders we would have never said play roulette if you're a guy and you get what you deserve, we would be applauding him for having a hundred partners and yet we have this double standard for women. we want to share one more. these comments make me sick. yes, there was a complete lack of commonsense and
9:08 am
responsibility, but that makes her the villian, not the man who willingly and knowing transmitted a life threatening disease to a stranger? classic blaming. >> i think she nailed it, that last one. i think it would help a lot for us to switch the mail and female roles and that if a woman had knowingly transmitted the disease to a man would we be having the same conversation? we have a ways to go in talking through this issue. i agree with you. people have so much to say. thanks so much for joining us. absolutely, you're welcome. > of course if you still have something to say, you can go to our website and use hashtag fox 29 weekend. > aware house goes up in tblaims overnight. it happened in brooks county. firefighters were called out. this happened around 4:00 a.m. this morning. nobody was inside at the time. the cause of that fire is under

investigation. also, there is a murder investigation in our hunt incorporate park neighborhood in philadelphia. this one happened about 10:30 last evening right along west hunt incorporate park. he died at the hospital. so far we do not have any suspects. > all right. sad ins for us, the eagles are off, it's a bye week so we're whying you, what are you doing? we want to know. tell us, hashtag fox 29 weekend and we'll ask our friends, john and sean their plans as well. an actor, comedian and philly native pleading with the rental car company what he's doing to help safe one woman's job. and let the shopping madness begin. stores opening up at 6:00 p.m. on thanksgiving. whatever happened to family time. we let you sound off. em ' anthony morning loose owe and you're tech life from the

> i'm bruise gored dan. sunday night philadelphia eagles fans watched as the birds stomped the hated division rife al new york joints 26-0. the eagles dominated this one right from the opening kickoff. it was 23-0 in the third quarter when the joints threatened to get on the board. viktor cruise in the corner of end zone incomplete and cruise fell to the turf with a season
9:14 am
ending knee injury. the link went wild. the new york tabloid do what tabloids do. accusing eagles fans and staffers of gloating over the injury. it was a bum ramp. they were cheering the failed attempt. it was later seen joining players from both teams and taking a knee and praying for cruise' recovery. here's my take. accusing philadelphia fans of vision, low life behavior is easy pickings for a sports writer fresh out of fresh ideas. we get justifiablely reminded as being reminded of decades old texts. lets he be clear, we are of like it that we're viewed as the nasty fans in sports. it makes us feel we can intimidate the visitors. here's an idea, the next time
9:15 am
you hear an out of town sports writer, ignore. when you hear a philly's fan complaining that we're the crudest, toughest fans in all of sports, ignore that, too. only in philly. doctor mike is busy in our studio answering your questions about ebola. you can ask him anything. just make sure you put that hashtag fox 29 weekend in there. of course we won't be able to see your comments. they're coming in. he is hard at work. it's time now for your interactive weather. we are taking a live look at atlantic city. a beautiful shoreline. it is so gore ambiguous. and caitlyn, it's great for anything. all the kids in their costumes dressed up. what's the temperature going to be like. >> i love your kids love the zoo. so many kids do. we're getting closer and closer halloween. this is where you get the
9:16 am
costumes together. a the look of people going pumpkin picking. it's the perfect fall day. events begin at 10:00 a.m. at the zoo. the scare crow scavenger hunt. not being said it will be pretty breezy. we'll see that chance for some clouds to pick up and it might be a little breezy otherwise. it looks pretty good for the forecasts there. let's take a look at what else we have to expect around the area. for that i'm going to grab my clicker. excuse me for a moment. we're all about the teg technology, of course. sometimes it fails. back again. all right. so that's -- okay, wait. this is for real. there we go. (cheering) i don't even know why it's there. we've got some showers off towards our west.
9:17 am
as i mentioned that cold front should not bring showers, but it will bring some wind and also some clouds. 56 in pottstown, 64 in wildwood. it's generally a comfortable morning out there. but it's going to turn a lit l less than comfortable as early as tomorrow. check out this seven day forecast. 57 on sunday and that is with a brisk north winds. so it will feel mostly like it's in the upper 40s all day long. 49 is the low temperature monday morning. that's in the city. we could talk about our first frost for many of our suburban spots. we stay pretty cool as our next low pressure arrives in the middle part of the week. that looks to bring a lot of clouds and showers, unlike the warm weather that the showers brought earlier this week, we will be talking about some chilly weather. that doesn't look to change as we go through the rest of the week. by friday we see a high testimony of 64 degrees. fors fans in limbo.
9:18 am
off tomorrow. the big win over the giants. let's look at our team. are we happy with where we are with our birds. >> 5 and 1, are you kidding me? i don't know if it feels like 5 and 1, but the coy boys are 5 and 1, too. the offense not necessarily looking great every game. the defence played all, the special teams have been unbelievable. they get to take a week off and watch the giants and the cowboys on sunday, tomorrow, on fox5, by the way. i feel great about the team. john is exactly right, karen. i'll tell you what, nick foles, the most important person on this team has probably played at a c level. my expectations are a little bit higher for him as well as for eagles fans across the board. i really do believe that only over the course of the next ten games he will only get better. i think people will find a lot
9:19 am
of extra time this weekend. of course we'll watch the giants-cowboys game. they call it the honey do. i asked sean what are you doing in the bye week. he said i wanted to go catch up on a movie. what did you do last year? i forget what i saw last year, but i'm looking forward to getting to the movies. get out of the house, treat the girl for a lunch and then catch a movie. is it possible to implement the by week for everybody in this world? like, you know, no disrespect to nfl players, but they only play 16 games a season and they're getting a week off. i think i could use a bye week. >> i think i could use a bye week from work. a lot of guys are doing this this time a year and whenever i go to the pumpkin pick patch you see guys and they kind of
9:20 am
recognize each other and we kind of give each other nods. last year, we went and picked the pumpkin and we come home and we carve it. pretty good work. my left is wife is on the left. she did that. that's what i'll be doing. i think it's line villa is where i get dragged to. i'm doing on sunday. i'm going to have a little apple side air. it's getting cold. i'm going pumpkin picking. i thought you were going to come up with silly. half the world will be down at line villa. my kids will be there. we'll check in with you next week. what will you be doing? use that hashtag, fox 29 weekend. the leader of the free world gets a lot of percs, white house, air force one, but president obama is just like us in so many ways. what happen to him as he dined in a new york city restaurant?
9:21 am
also we would like to brag on some of our own, that's our own sue care rea, look at her daughter at the home coming court last night. tonight is the big dance. a the look of home coming weekends. also we have a big week, a walk to end alzheimer's. that is chris o'connell, sue serio and bruise gordon. we're taking your music requests. this is cotton eye joe requested by pennsylvania near a. what do you want to hear? use the hashtag this is jim.
9:22 am
a man who doesn't stand still. but jim has afib, atrial fibrillation an irregular heartbeat, not caused by a heart valve problem. that puts jim at a greater risk of stroke. for years, jim's medicine tied him to a monthly trip to the clinic to get his blood tested. but now, with once-a-day xarelto®, jim's on the move. jim's doctor recommended xarelto®. like warfarin, xarelto® is proven effective to reduce afib-related stroke risk. but xarelto® is the first and only once-a-day prescription blood thinner for patients with afib not caused by a heart valve problem, that doesn't require regular blood monitoring. so jim's not tied to that monitoring routine. gps: proceed to the designated route. not today. for patients currently well managed on warfarin, there is limited information on how xarelto® and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke. xarelto® is just one pill a day taken with the evening meal. plus, with no known dietary restrictions, jim can eat the healthy foods he likes.
9:23 am
don't stop taking xarelto®, rivaroxaban, unless your doctor tells you to. while taking xarelto®, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. xarelto® may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. xarelto® can cause serious bleeding, and in rare cases, may be fatal. get help right away if you develop unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising, or tingling. if you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto®, watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. do not take xarelto® if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. before starting xarelto®, tell your doctor about any conditions such as kidney, liver, or bleeding problems. jim changed his routine. ask your doctor about xarelto®. once-a-day xarelto® means no regular blood monitoring, no known dietary restrictions. for information and savings options, download the xarelto® patient center app, call 1-888-xarelto, or visit goxarelto.com.

> a philadelphia community calling for an end to the violence. they're walking in memory of a woman murdered over a 14-dollar handbag. i feel like it's a beautiful morning for it. let's judging to jenny joist. she's at the finish line in northern liberties. good morning. the last runners and walkers finished the finish line about 10 minutes ago. they are rally together over stopping the violence. this run was organized by a group called handbags for peace, which came to be after a 26 year old woman, as you mentioned, killed for her handbag. you know what, all of this was sparked via the power of social media sparking a conversation online, what can we do to stop
9:25 am
this? that's how the hand bags for piece all got together today to try to make a difference. you know what, handbags for peace is hoping to raise about $5,000 at today's race. people saw what was happening here this morning and decided to sign up on the spot to try to make a difference. because the group launch social media there's a huge push to promote this cause on handbags for piece. that's the number for piece. the raise kicked off around 8:15 this morning. there was a lot of excitement. as hard as it was for amber long's mom to come back to the city where she says her daughter was killed, she says it's important for her to be here. i hope that it will remind people that these guys are still out there. i hope it will bring amber's case back into the public eye because honestly she deserves
9:26 am
it. she was one of those people that we just, you know, we can't afford to lose. > and so again, this race today, hoping to raise about $5,000 and something very special that happened. as amber's mom crossed this in if issue line, everybody handed her yellow flowers. what was the significance of that? >> i think the significance is just the unity of women coming together. i'm assuming it's her favorite color. we had the yellow scarfs, the yellow flowers all coming together for one cause. it was an awful powerful fight uniting in this community. > what a wonderful morning out there. thank you for sharing that with us. > some of your answers to concerns about medical issues specifically when it comes to object to the form of the ebola. we brought in the weekday guy to answer your questions. he's live in our studio hoping

9:30 am
but they're bigfoot ball fans and they don't want the two to overlap. it is a very popular weekend for wednesdayings. glad we'll be in sunny sea isle this weekend for fall fest of the it will definitely be sunny, but by tomorrow sorn r turning chilly. by none a mix of sunday and clouds much the winds will definitely pick up. we'll see them gust over 20 miles an hour. by 10:00 temperatures back into the mid 6 0s. that's down the shore. tonight it won't be as cold as in the city. you can see a broken line of showers along that front. it is moving southeast where it shouldn't bring us any rain, but it bring the dramatic drop in temperatures. temperatures right now, though, very comfortable, 55 in mount pocono, 56 in pottstown, 61 in philly and 60 down in million industry. it should be a really nice saturday. maybe a few more clouds and breezy this afternoon.
9:31 am
winds are pretty calm. not going to see those gusts not quite yet. we'll wait until later this afternoon. 68 today and seasonal, but we're dropping to a high temperature of just 67. it's going to be chilly if you're out there picking those pumpkins. it's the low 40s to upper 50s most of the day. temperatures stay cool with showers returning on tuesday for the rest of the week. caitlyn, thanks so much. of course we all know this, ebola is such a concern amongst so many people and there are so many questions out there so we invited our own doctor mike in on fox 29 weekend. he's going to answer some of the questions that you have. vanessa is going to kick it off. how are their survivors on ebola and how can we save only 30 percent of ebola patients? why are only some able to survive, hashtag fox 29 weekend. >> a lot has to do with how the patient was before they got sick. if they are eeld other. if they're older than 45, if
9:32 am
they're in poor health. and most importantly are they able to get access to good medical care. all of those things allow you to survive this. remember, and i want to say this, absolutely no need to panic here. no panic needed. > all right. ry card today so is can i get ebola on an airplane if a person from west africa is sitting next to me and starts coughing. >> unlike the flu this was not that easily transmitted. i had a patient say i was afraid to fly up for thanksgiving from florida to thanksgiving. unless you're having a layover somewhere in liberia, not a problem. it's not the flu. it's not airborne so you're not at risk. not a gleam. > and troy finishes it out, he says is cremation of an effective body the most effective way to destroy the ebola virus? >> that's a creepy one, but it's a good question. why? because the virus can
9:33 am
actually last in the body, a dead body, for up to several months. so cremation actually is the best way to destroy the virus in africa where they don't have access to cremation, they have to bury not only the patient, but the clothes and all of that to prevent other people from getting sick. and that's one of the ways things are being spread. the family members are hugging their deceased loved ones and that can spread the virus. really quickly i was flying actually this week and i see a lot of people wearing the masks and the gloves, is that really helping. >> no, it's just adding to fear. > i saw people with two masks on. >> i don't even want people to do this for halloween. it's not really anything to laugh about. forget it. but don't do that. > don't do it. >> thanks for coming in. i'm honored to be here. love you. > all right. karen. we'll keep answering some more of your questions.
9:34 am
a little bit of a medical twist, every time we see bon oh he's wearing those sunglasses. we thought it's so cool. the real reason the rock star says he sports those sunnies. you're the one thing i can't get enough of. that dance scene in dirty dancings is one of the more famous us in movie history. that movie is almost 30 years old. but it's still making kids dance. including this guy. norton show he actually wears them to combat the glaucoma that he's been suffering from for 20 years. glaucoma is a disease that can cause sensitivity to light. he is receiving treatment and i says he will be just fine. his only only concern is that people will refer to him as poor old blind bon owe. it doesn't explain why he's wearing the sun glasses so now we know. we thought it was all rock star cool and now there's a reason. he's probably old enough to own it to up. he was the speaker at the university of pennsylvania when my sister graduated back in the day. do you remember that, i was just star struck. we haul ave the thing when you go shopping. you like to think you live this great exciting life.

i go shopping and i'm sorry, we can't take it right now. it's been declined. and then they say it's not working right now. so we're not alone. apparently it just happened to the leader of the free world. he had that exact embarrassing moment, his credit card was declined. where was he? >> president obama said yesterday that his credit card was rejected last month when he was out to dinner with the first lady in new york city. he did it in front of his woman, too. another embarrassment. he said he doesn't use it often. the president said michelle had her card and the first couple was able to pay for their meal. i certainly feel better about myself. when you're in a long line when it happens and people are behind you with 20 things and you're like turning around, like sorry. obviously his wife of how many years, it's not embarrassing, but have you ever been out with
