hello i'm lloyd sowers. and welcome to hospital heros. stories of hope and inspiration from the children's miracle network. we begin with heros and volunteers who comfort kids with cancer. and who arrange ad surprise visit by one teenage girl's favorite country band. kelly ring has the store from st. petersburg, florida. >> taylor's journey actually started about three years ago. they found sarcoma in her right hand. at just 15 years old taylor became a cancer survivor. she continued to play softball and go to school until her cancer came back. this time spreading to her lungs. >> you see other kids go through

this and it makes you-- its hard to go through it. life at the cancer ward and all children's hospital can be heart breaking. days when she just wants to lay in bed when she pulls blanket over to her head i call it going into a very dark place. days that can be overwhelming for both the children and their care takers. >> she she doesn't leave which means a lot. knowing that she's staying here with me through it all. because there are some kids that are up here that don't have their parents. i don't know how they do it. >> i told her dr. collin moore knows exactly what taylor's going through. because as a 15-year-old baseball player, he too was diagnosed with cancer. >> i try to find every single day to hopefully the worst thing that could have happened to me in my life was my cancer.

and that's at least 16 years ago. there's every other day since then is going to be a good day. when you open that door you don't don't know what you're going to walk into. donna ritchie began volunteering at all children's four years ago. after her own son was killed in a car crash. >> hi, good morning. she coping through her tragedy by helping others cope through theirs. >> with the xbox she god it all covered, don't you? yes. they are very, very sick. but we sure have some good hopeful outcomes on this floor. >> for taylor, that moment of escape came >> he called us out. we had to come see you. >> with a surprise visit from rascal flats. >> i was told they were just going to face time me. and then they just walked through the door. i was like holy cow. it turns out that a little bit of laughter and a lot of prayer

could be the best medicine ever. it means a lot. just knowing that, like there's people out there i don't even know. that they sit there and say a prayer for me every day. just t. just means the world to me. >> kelly ring, fox news. >> was what boost to young girl's spirit security guard children's medical center of dallas is getting a lot of attention. his picture is on billboard. lauren pris bill tells us many say it's about time this humble guy who so many count on get some extra special recognition. >> they pointed it like wow. just, you know it handy soaksecurity guard glen got a big surprise at work recently his picture posted on billboard outside children's medical center in dallas for all to see. >> pretty cool sign.

yes, ma'am. >> your arms are crossed. i like it. several photos. >> and that's the winner. yes. the billboard comes after glen was named employee of the year by dallas fort wort hospital council foundation an organization that works more than 50 area hospitals. you're very friendly guy. you're saying high to everybody that walks by out here. >> well kind of who i am. it seems like everyone knows you. >> uh-huh. that's nice? yes, ma'amgot to be good feeling. all the time. all the time. uncle glen as many call has worked security at children's for 29 years. >> can you give him a high 5? >> sure. >> no high 5? there you go. he not only connects with coworkers but families who turned to childrens during tough times. >> thank you so kindly. all right. thank you. all right appreciate your help around here. while glen often has a smile on his face he's the hospital's go to guy when there are tough security issues. >> social worker utilize

security often. when we have tragic situations or domestic disputes or just safety situations. and really we don't like to call for security. we like to call for glen. that's what, can can you send glen. that's who we want. he has a magical way of connecting with people eliminating tense situations. after spending just a few minutes with glen, it is clear. he isn't just a security guard, he's great listener with a big heart. he listens to either the social workers or to the doctors who call him or to the families who need him. and i think that's why he's able to connect as well as he is with him. because that's where he starts hearing them out. listening to them hearing what their struggles are. what do you think sets you apart from everybody else? >> well i guess people person. you know, just as with everybody. it didn't don't make difference when you come from, that's just

kind of person i am. after billboard popped up glen got promotion and now straw mental in training new hospital security guards. he says he plans to work as long as he can doing what he does. he's glad people appreciate it. do you realize how valued you are? now i do. >> coming up hospital heros triplets born too early fight to stay alive and when we see heroic thaefrt leads to happy homecoming. then a dance class with different mission. healing power kids receive by stepping outs on the dance floor. all next when

sglvrjtsz well welcome back to hospital heros. new parents look forward to the day they can bring their newborn home from the hospital. one new jersey mom had to wait very long time. more than ten months. dawn shares it is miracle from children's hospital of philadelphia. >> been one of the hardest journeys i have ever had to go through. dwlifring triplets 12 weeks early. all teenie tiny. not able to leigh the hospital for months, and needing round the clock specialized care. >> it is really scary. >> they told me when i found out that when we found out we were pregnant with triplets that, they were going to be you know most likely in n ucu i heard

word bhu never really knew what it was. 25-year-old brook is all too familiar now with the nicu. hot neonatal intensive care unit where frajic premature and sick newborns are treated. ma madelyn was one pound ten ounces. riley was two pounds nine ounces and elly was two pounds 10 ounces. >> arriving into this world on october 18th, 2013, and just over 28 weeks, the identical triplets had an uphill battle especially the lilleyest one maddie feared might not make. she's proven to be quite fighter although battle is far from over for this little one. while her sisters got to go home at 2 months, she has been at the nicu for months on end. being treated for chronic lung disease. the first few months it was very hard for us to even get her to

grow. because when babies breathing like that, they are spending almost all of their calories to breathe. >> and with that they can't grow healthy lung tissues either. it has heart retching for brook who a deliver maddie every day with two sisters trapped? stroller ready to go. joe is england in captain british royal army he visits as often as he can. but brook is pretty much had to go it alone. spending hours at the hospital playing and caring for maddie. actually just starting to see her smile for first time. like two months ago. a major milestone for a little girl who has been through so much. maddie is improving every day. and continues to amaze the team of doctors and nurses. so now she's like a chubby girl. and happy. so it's like, really a long ways. she's a completely different girl now. before if you would have seen her few months ago no color to her she was like a little twig.

maddie couldn't be in better hands. chop has one largest chronic lung disease programs in the world for newborns and infants. >> but even the top docs that are caring for her credit part progress to these two elly and riley. such good stimulation for maddie for the sisters to be here. >> brook says her sisters kind of like maddie medicine breathing started progressing she would interact with them identical that is come on and root you on and push you forward. brook is hopeful they will spring maddie from this place before her first birthday every day she gets a little closer to going home. just to see her change, and the new baby that she's become, when you see babies doing well, that's the reward. >> dawn, fox news. we're happen to tell you that baby was released from the

hospital. the triplets are altogether and doing very well. a dance routine is helping kids heal from physical injuries and disabilities. we see the difference it's making for a little girl name jenna. atlanta beth galvin goes to dance class to see jenna in action. step. right out gate is pretty obvious. jenna gets to come and she gets to dance and she gets, today she's wearing her hot pink, she says i'm rock star mama. jenna proctor is no wall flour. jenna is one most strong willed outspoken 4-year-old you've ever met in your whole life. in this today's chance part rehabilitation program children healthcare in atlantis perfect fit for the 4-year-old. when she first came she was a little nervous, and just didn't know exactly what to do. but she is so excited. this is a big deal because jenna has been through a lot. on a journey that began when she was just eight months old. my baby was perfectly normal that morning her daughter who had just started crawling fell

out of bed in gordy countied day care. first it didn't seem like a big deal. they gave her a pacifier, you know patted her and took her nap then they called me afterwards something wasn't right. jenna suffered a spinal cord injury. brush rushed by ambulance to she spent three months in pediatric intensive care unit. it was touch and go. i mean i watched them revive her three times. who knew a spinal cord injury up so hi affecting i don't breathe pick up ills it affected, what moved what what didn't move. i didn't know any of that. i knew nothing about injuries like that. for a long time the proctors weren't sure jenna would ever walk much less dance. but after years of hard work here she is practicing her moves with children's speech pathologist. i think for her it's more about at confidence. she's able to exude she has so much confidence and just so much life to her. when she comes face to gays real ballerina from atlanta ballet, the little rock star from

calhoun smiles. knowing she too has the heart of a dancer. with when hospital reheros returns her name is lucie she's home town hero. we will tell hue why she's so special. they are riding there way to good health and

welcome back to hospital he heroes of the children miracle network. this next story is proof miracles can happen. even when the odds are so overwhelmingly against it. sara has the amazing story of abrave little girl from tennessee. sometimes we just, we think, it could be yesterday. every picture in crawl home now seems to center around one event. when lucy was diagnosed with brain cancer. three months before her diagnosis, 7 months after her diagnosis. a month before she went into a coma and almost died. >> it wasn't fun being so sick. diagnosed at 4, lucy is now eight years old. girls her age want to be princesses. but instead she was count the 2014 children's miracle network hospital champion for tennessee. >> it wasn't guaranteed we would

even have the opportunity to be, to be celebrating such a miracle. i mean we're blessed beyond measure. even on days where i want to scream and be typical mom, and don't call me mom again, i just remember how blessed we are to have three in the house yelling mom instead of just two. lucy and her family are embassadors for organization and children's hospital. in november they traveled to washington d.c. and orlando, florida to share their story and advocate the importance of donating to local children's hospitals. >> doctor's room, my friends, she used to printing me arts and crafts to work on. you know it is really humbling to think how many sick children are in worlds country state of tennessee for people to recognize what miracle store lucy's is humbling. an opportunity for more photos to remember a better time. this is from the day we shared

lucy's story and inspired other families to keep the fight and faith. >> we're thankful for this opportunity. it's a story worth hearing. because it is, it's a real modern day miracle. it's okay. it will be all right. the hospital is a place to get better. and it's really fun. >> in memphis, sara, fox news. >> there's nothing like seeing a child's face light up at the sight of a brand new bike. fox's dena has our next story from detroit. she tells us how kids are enjoying the thrill of a bike ride for the very first time. from little trikes to big bikes a custom made set of wheels for every child in beaumont children's hospital bike day program. providing special bikes for children with special needs. >> then you always want to milk sure when you get on bike that your feet are suppliesly strapped in so your feet don't come in pedals gives you really good support. 12 gerald justin has taken a

test drive. >> my bike is special to me because oh, i have-- i have a condition caused by too much flewed on brain with cerebral pals and sight strug will justin has beaumont patient since he was baby this is what is third bike. i was having a bike race with my family >> yeah. >> and i won the bike race. i feel like superman. super hero. and all of his friends a school awe him and they were very proud of him he was very proud of himself. one big contributor to bike day is children's miracle network. there are more than 100 bikes going to kids. and the cost of these customize the bikes ranges from $1,300 all way up to $6,000. the benefits are priceless. >> a lot of these kids can't who are disabled really don't have any other community access. so this, their rehab, if you will in family context, in an

individual independence context. also they are mooukt context. so when you look all three of those things it's healthy, its fun, and it's within the contexts of a family and community. >> do you like riding your bike? yes. 18-year-old kk of detroit a cerebrals palsz. for her mom this is day she thought knee never would see. i never thought that she would be able to, you know, ride a bike. >> yeah. so this is amazing. >> once everyone has a good feel for their bike, helmets are fitted and adjustments are made. then it time to load them up and take them home. but first, justin wanted to race our photographer todd. >> hello todd. try that brake out. >> top job. give me 5. nice job. >> when we come back, a blank canvas opens a colorful world for young boy recovering from cancer. we'll show you how he discovered

a brush, paint and a blank canvas are all ryan needed to uplift his life. the young man discovered talent he didn't even know he had. until after he was diagnosed with cancer. anna gilligan has our story from new york. >> i was just a normal kid from brooklyn. and then, bam, i got cancer. >> ryan got the devastating news right after his 14th birthday. after suffering from feverish fatigue and throat infection that is wouldn't go away doctors

finally figured out what it was. >> i was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. he underwent treatment like a trooper. his mother anna said he never complained even when he was in pain. he wouldn't say but they knew because of his heart rate. one hardest parts chemotherapy for ryan was he was two weak to play the sports he loved. he would literally sleep in bed with glove in his hand. a ball. and it would break my heart. so ryan tried out art which he could do in his hospital bed. one night he started drawing when he was too anxious to sleep his mom woke next morning she couldn't believe what she saw. ryan this is really good. but you really didn't believe her i thought at that was like a mom instinct. ryan's potential was obvious. he was introduced to the art therapist gabby at the maria childrens's hospital where he was being treated. >> drawing and painting gave ryan an outlet for his feeling and helped with his recovery. i felt like, i had monsters

inside me like the chemo monsters. >> and you know i just drew at lot of color because, you know, that, different sets of chemo and weird looking colors. once he got into art a little more you could see awas having fun laughing and joking his temperament changed like his temperament ryan paintings changed too from chemo monsters to clouds and trees and flowers. ryan also used his new found art skills to enter a nation-wide children miracle network contest to design a tissue box around theme what i love about school. he won the contest and the honor of being carried in major retail chain. did you go to wal-mart and buy your tissues there? >> yeah. how many boxes did you get? we have like a little closet. and it's like, almost stacked. through his cancer ryan discovered a love of art. now with his strength back he can also return to sports he loves. this year he will trying out for his school basketball and baseball teams. ryan's future looks bright and for that he's grateful. >> thank god that i came back

and i fought it and now i'm really healthy. anna gilligan, fox news. >> what an inspiring story. >> up next, a motherly instincts and guardian angels team up to help twin brothers in distress. joy has this remarkable story from philadelphia. >> dylan end aden, take them out >> happy little toddler twins can't even tell them apart now. but about two years ago, aden was starving inside the womb. i felt great. that's the scary thing, there's no warning signs. i was ready to go on trip to disneyworld. our car was packed. but she decided to get a quick check up first. they did ultrasound and they noticed there was a difference in fluid. a major difference in the size of the twins. even at 17 weeks. the twin tran fusion syndrome is condition that's unique tomo no corp onic pregnancy.

multiple fetus share one placenta. dylan was being felled too much and aden not nearly enough. they would not survive without surgery. we went from a super happy to no, the worst possible scenario you could imagine rachel doctor sent her to chop immediately. spiralsist. >> a procedure to separate the blood flow from dylan to aden. forming a separate sack for each baby to agent balanced flow and development. it just seems like few minutes she told me the babies look healthy and she said there's super handsome. >> only two weeks of recovery and now two years later, oh the twins check out fine. they and big brother although goon are off and rolling again. >> i always like to think that, there are angels watching over our families. i think the doctors themselves are the angels. i mean we've got them, there are
