the best place to be. anywhere with heat, i would say. that is a very cute video. thank you so much for sending that in. we love your viewer videos. #fox29weekend. today can be summed up in one word, cold. frigid that's exactly what it feels like outside today. yesterday we saw a bit of a break. we'll struggle to hit 20 degrees today in many spots. it is brutal no matter where you are, really. temperatures are mainly in the single digits, but we are seeing at least a few teens. so that's something, i suppose. it is 2 degrees in mount pocono, 11 in potstown, 16 in philadelphia. these are air temperatures. again we have that air factor today. it doesn't feel too breezy outside right now, but once you get away from the tall

buildings, it feels brutal. 15 mile an hour winds that could get to over 20 mile an hour today. look at these wind chills. awful. not the best skiing day. today's high temperature despite the beautiful sunshine, it will only hit 22 degrees. tonight no relief yet. clear skies and we'll fall back into the teens. i do see some warmer weather on the horizon, but with that comes wet weather. we'll talk about that in the seven-day forecast. karen and lauren? >> it is 8:03 right now. we want to get to some of the headlines. police are investigating a deadly shooting in the kingsessing neighborhood. this is right after midnight and south 56th street and greenway avenue. there was a man who was shot once in the chest. so far no suspects. >> all eyes are still on france

this morning as the search continues for one more ak police in those deadly attacks. sabina? >> after three days of bloodshed which played out on live tv and social media, this morning france's nightmare is not yet over. the hunt is on for the woman suspected of being an accomplice. she is considered armed and dangerous. also this morning a member of al qaeda's branch in yemen claims that they chose their target. it would be the first time that they have successfully carried out an operation in the west after at least two earlier attempts. france is urging its citizens to remain vigilant as thousands security forces remain on the

ground to prevent any new attacks. and here at home hundreds held vigil in love park last night showing support for france's deadly attack in decades. many were france nationals living in philadelphia. >> it's important to show solidarity and to suppress our grief for the victims and the families of the victims. >> freedom of the press, they died for this. it's something that i think everybody should feel. it's not just, you know, the french, anybody it can happen to. >> and world leaders will arrive in paris tomorrow when what's expected to be a huge demonstration to show unity against extremists. in light of the attacks the state department has issued a travel warning to american citizens and coming up at 9:00, we'll tell you why french authorities believe the attacks could have been a lot worse. karen? >> here's something we've been seeing so much of this hashtag

getting fresh food is going to be a struggle and there's all those people who will be losing their job. dr. ron hill joining us by skype this morning. let me get to these tweets this morning, because so many people are upset by this development. frequently we cover news stories when there's a big grand opening of a supermarket. how do you think this is going to affect people? >> it's a disaster in many ways. if you look at the 95 corridor, starting as far down as maryland and all the way up to trenton, you're seeing food deserts and this only exacerbates the problem. that's a place where there are psychological or barriers from getting food.

they're there are going to be difficulties for them and food banks have to be alerted to the problem. >> then a lot of people have to go to the corner store where they're not going to have a wide a variety or selection and the prices are more expensive and frequently there's a problem just getting to the store that's nearby, can you take the bus, how much can you carry. what are we going to do? >> it's really a big problem. i have to say it's really a examination of issues. we know people who are poorer in our communities spend more on food than those who are more wealthy in our communities. but what we don't realize, they pay more per dollar as well. in other words, they get less per dollar when they buy food. particularly if they go to local stores and bodegas and then also end up having a much less variety as well. >> we do know a chain has come in, aldi, and is going to be buying these stores. but we don't know if these

a pretty big name to keep this philadelphia diner up and running. plus, we made it through our first snowfall of 2015 and we know there's going to be a lot more to come, so why did we complain so much about this one puny little storm? only in philly. i'm superintendent with a video that is. [ bleep ] me off this week. two police officers are shot while responding to a robbery in the bronx. you can see one suspect caught on the surveillance cameras. he used a .44 magnum pistol to fire at the officers. one was shot in the arm and back, the other in the arm and chest. they were rushed to the hospital. the officers were already off the clock when they still chose to respond to the robbery.

welcome back. in your news now, the family of a missing mount laurel's woman is pleading for help. she has not been seen since december 31st. her last post on facebook was on the 30th saying she was on a date with her husband. they claim erica's husband told them just this week that she had been missing. erica's children are safe and with family. this morning, more on that major stunner. one of our most popular radio hosts announcing he had prostate cancer. you know steve on wmmr? over the last ten years you've probably listened to him, of course seen him on "good day." this week he decided to go public with his cancer battle. you're like family, as strange as that sounds. thank you for sharing your story. all the very best to you.

keep keeping on. this one from steve. glad to hear you are okay, buddy. we've got steve joining us right now this morning. good morning to you, steve. >> good morning, karen. >> the good news right now is you are okay. what's your prognosis right now? >> i am cancer free. people were worried and i was getting a lot of twitter and the social media blew up and people were aware i was cancer free and it was over and some other people were not quite sure. what actually happened is, the battle, quote unquote, with cancer, was raged over the course of just a couple of hours. the reason for that is because of dr. mike cirigliano and following up on my psa tests, which were showing to be a little bit high. i guess the acceptable range tops out at around 4 and i was between a 3.9 and a 4.1.

so i had a biopsy which proved i did have cancer. but i never had symptoms associated with prostate cancer. i had all the other exams. nothing was red flagging. the only thing was the psa test. i never felt anything, any pain, any discomfort prior to surgery. it occurred on wednesday, the morning of december 17th. as i said the surgery lasted about three hours. dr. david lee over at penn conducted the robotic surgery, and afterwards there was no pain, no nothing. so my mother had lung cancer and did wage a battle for a long time. mine wasn't a battle. because of the early detection, it was an extraction and right now the prognosis is tremendous. i'll been monitored closely and things will be followed up on, but it was taken out of my body, contained within the prostate, and this is something that has happened with many guys. actually two people who work here for greater media have had.

it's a blood test, the psa test. and get your other tests and obviously. all the things you should get as you get older in life. be on it early. don't be afraid of the result. be afraid of not knowing something is happening and you're letting it go. but if you go and just have it checked and you are on the early end of it, which is more than likely if you are not symptomatic of anything, then you'll be good. i mean, you know, obviously there are other situations, but

that's a new mug shot of george zimerman. he is under arrest charged with aggravated asalt. you may remember he was in headlines back in 2012 for the shooting debt of trayvon martin. of course this is a new mug shot. he's been charged with aggravated assault. >> we know that the seminole county sheriff's office is saying he was arrested about 10:00. he's held in one of the correctional facilities there. >> another blow to atlantic city. the city's race course is now closing permanently. >> one thing afternoon. they have not been having any races at that track for more than a decade, but the course has been offering smul casting. it is happening very soon. that last day of business will be next friday, january 16th. >> the president of the community college of philadelphia says he's excited

borrow money from overseas leveraged on the fact that taxpayers won't pay it back. >> hello, i'm bruce gordon. philadelphia got its first snowfall in the new year this week, about an inch early tuesday morning. forecasters had called for at least that much. but this coat, was, as usual, cause for chaos. the commute times were doubled or worse. my take, i've lived in this region most of my life and i still can't figure out why we can't figure out how to handle a little snow. my commute on tuesday, normally 45 minutes, was about an hour and a half. a slow crawl up northbound i-95 that had to be the result of a major accident or lane closure. sure enough, there it was. a single car, spun out with a dented grille on the southbound side of the road. that's right.

80/20 blend, to get a little juicy you need fat in that meat. all our seasonings and come up with the greatest meat loaf you can possibly imagine. my favorite lawry's season salt, about a tablespoon of onion powder, steak seasoning, then we're going to add about a cup of diced peppers, a couple of eggs. add a little more season salt, a little more steak seasoning and a pinch of granulated garlic and that will be good enough for you. so we're going to add about half a cup of bread crumbs. i use seasoned bread crumbs.

give it a spray. right before you do this, you should preheat your often to about 325 degrees so the loaf is all loafed. next step, ketchup. final step, my favorite. bacon. just lay it on. it's going to cook and crisp up. it's going to permeate that meat loaf and we are done. throw a little more ketchup on there for good measure. it it turns into more of a glaze than anything elts. take a little seasoning just to give a little topping to it. now we're going to put them in oven. so about 45 minutes later, it looks like it's done. wow, this looks really good. i personally like to eat it with mashed potatoes and gravy.

poconos. all three people are alive. no word on what led to the shooting. >> what do you think about this? should welfare recipients be drug tested? it just became law in michigan. it calls for testing of people on welfare. recipients who test positive will be offered treatments. those who refuse will lose their benefits for six months. >> as a clear violation it's unconstitutional and unlawful. try it out on congress first and see how that goes. >> if you have to be drug tested for employment, then you should be tested for welfare. >> why are people so ignorant of the facts, every place that has implemented this has spend more for the testing. if welfare recipients have to, why not rich people that are landing multimillion government contracts. is this a program that's going to do more harm than good?

joining us by skype right now, a certificate specialist. how are you doing? >> you think this is going to hurt people why? >> i think the biggest reason why, it's going to have a huge detrimental effect on the children. >> we all have to live by the choices we make and a lot of people make bad choices and the choices they're making to engage in drug use, shouldn't they also face the consequences of not being able to get money from the state? >> i don't agree with that. oftentimes people suffer from a substance abuse disorder. it's a medical condition. it's like saying someone who has depression shouldn't get benefits because they can't get out of bed. >> people say there needs to be line in the sand. we need to have a wake-up call for people. you cannot just get money if you're choosing to abuse the system. we're not going to give them

will fair benefits. >> once again i'm going to have to say i don't agree. multilayered, systemic issue. we can't have families, young children on the streets homeless. and if we don't have systems like this in place, it's going to be a huge strain on other social welfare problems. >> if not this, is there another way to have a wake-up call? the idea behind the program is we will still continue to give you the money, but you need to enter a rehab program. >> absolutely. what's built into this program is they only do testing if there's a suspicion, but the biggest problem for me is even if we have somebody who does test positive and they do decide i have an issue and i want to get treatment, most social service drug and alcohol problems are understaffed and underfunded and have huge wait lists. >> you do bring up the issue of

just this week that she had disappeared. family members say her children are safe staying with other relatives. and we've had this breaking news that's happened from hoefr night. we know that george zimmerman has been arrested once again. he was picked up in lake mary, florida. he's 31 years old. he's got a court appearance for right about now, in fact. no further details were released on that woon. but we know he was taken into custody and there was that case with trayvon martin back in 2013 when he was acquitted. we'll stay on top of that developing situation. also in utah, police have shot and killed a man who attacked a police officer with a shovel. this was all caught on video with the officer's body camera. investigators say they got a call there was a man walking around offering to shovel their sidewalks and looking inside people's cars. when they got there they say the man started yelling and eventually assaulted that officer. that's when the officer fired his gun. the officer suffered multiple

word "cold." when will things start to warm up? it will be warmer tomorrow. temperatures right now 3 in the poconos. it's 16 in philadelphia. these are air temperatures in the teens for south jersey and delaware. it feels like the single digits to well below zero north and west. fox future cast shows a lot of sunshine, clear skies as we head into tonight. and then into sunday we'll round out the weekend giving way to clouds. a storm system comes in and begins to impact the area as early as late sunday night. it will bring a mix of rain, snow and everything in between as we head towards early monday morning. this does not look like a lot, but it doesn't take a lot of frozen stuff to cause problems. so this is at 7:00 a.m., it looks like mainly rain but freezing rain will mix in in spots. so monday morning we've got our eye on it. red flags have been raised while it looks like just rain, we
