>> have you ever done this before. >> i've done -- >> successfully? >> no. -- to a loving family. >> this is a story people are talking about all across the country. that connecticut teenager is battling cancer now being forced to have chemotherapy. she's 17-year-old her name a cassandra back in september she got the diagnosis of hodgkin's lymphoma. well she made it clear to her mother she did not wanting to through chemotherapy. she wanted to look into alternative treatments as a result she missed several doctors appointments so the state stepped in and forced her to have chemotherapy. this is what her mother had to say. >> my daughter doesn't want to die. i don't want her to die. so people out there think that i'm letting her do a death sentence and i'm not. neither is she. we are saying, these are her rights. these are her constitutional

different but in connecticut it really came down to her maturi maturity. she did not -- she had run away twice. she did not seem to have a good grasp according to the judge of what was happening and they felt as though she was sort of -- in the judge's words sort of mirroring her mother's pins so all of that put together in addition to the expert the medical expert who's said she had an 85% chance of surviving if she had this chemotherapy non chance if she did not, all of those things in couldn't junk led the court to this decision. >> what's her reasoning when she came forth and said i wanted to try alternative therapists first? a lot of people when you get a diagnosis do want to try something that may not be chemicals per se. but what was her reasoning? >> it was a similar argument that this is poison and the thing with chemotherapy we know that it is poison it's killing good parts and bad parts of your body. so that was her argument. i think that, you know, compare this to case that happened in virginia some time ago where another teenager didn't want to

take chemotherapy for a similar disease. that teenager had done a number of different researches he had looked into different types of alternative therapists and ultimately he and the state came to an agreement that he could use some sort of an alternative doctor. here i don't think the cassandra had done the same amount of research that left the court to think she was really making an informed decision and i think that that also influenced why they decided to make her have the chemo. >> heather, let me get to some of the comments on facebook. kim writes i don't think the government has any right to tell anyone what they have to do with their own body. she's 17. not seven. she's almost a legal adult and if she knows what the risk are and doesn't want it why force it? shaking my head. >> almost is not good enough to get a driver's license almost is not good enough to consume alcohol. she she is still a child. >> i'm fighting cancer right now for the second time i have a very deadly form of cancer. and it will eventually kill me. when the time comes and chemo is

no longer an option and it will come, i will decide my fate i im46. so the final word on this one heather? >> you know, there's so many issues that come into play and all of those opinions are good ones. ultimately it's got to be decided on case by case basis. there's no one age. there's no one drug. no one right decision and so people have to make that decision with their parents, with their doctors, and ultimately unfortunately sometimes with judges, too. >> heather, thank you so much. we appreciate your time. >> thank you, karen. have a great day. >> you as well. what do you think about this decision from the state of connecticut and the judges up there and the way the courts weighed in on this one. let us know use our #fox29weekend. and let's get one last look of your interactive forecast live look outside. that's from our camera right a top of our studios the fourth and mark in old city. plenty of sunshine again. it is cold still. but it will be less harsh as we head into the afternoon. that's because we've got warmer air moving in ahead of our neck
