7:00 am

7:01 am
>> we did get a tweet from governor christie he must be watching. >> he heard us watching. >> he will tweet something. >> one minute ago he tweeted this. >> he said after assessing the the situation, the travel ban, for south of i-95 will be lifted, at 7:00 a.m. >> yes. >> 195. >> you know, you are right, new jersey should be split into two states. >> indeed it is. >> north and south. >> right there. >> 195, exit 7a of the turnpike is a good bet. when you look at the the cameras, that is dividing line for the the snow. >> right, it always was going to be worse in northeastern, new jersey all along. so, that is our big news of the day, south jersey has succeeded from the union. >> yes. >> wow. >> so work on a new flag. >> if there wasn't this snow situation that would be bigger news. >> yes. >> so, what will be the the state capitol of south jersey.
7:02 am
>> cherry hill. >> yes, why not. >> atlantic city. >> that is my vote. >> we will need a governor. we have big plans today. >> we will work this out. >> governor christie is watching, he is back the on the phone. >> steve keeley, the the mayor of south jersey. >> that is perfect. >> boom. >> we need to write this down. >> well, your imagination continues to go crazy, lets go back to reality. >> look at this snowfall. >> if this was christmas, everybody would be thrilled, thanks to annie for that tweet and angel on columbus boulevard. so thank you for all of you, weighing in, whatever you had had to say, even mean people we are glad you are watching anyway. here's ultimate doppler radar and it shows where the worst of the storm is. it is in new england.
7:03 am
for us though we still have some snow showers, around and they will continue for the next couple of hours. check this out, 27 miles an her win gust in martha's vineyard and nantucket had 78-mile an hour win gusts. eighteen recorded in south of boston and they will continue with those very high snowfall totals. they are indeed going to get the brunt of this storm. so we're talking about bus stop buddy, with a reminder for you that not all schools are closed to day. some are opening late, and you will see them scrolling on the bottom of the screen. get the the complete list on my fox philly.com. temperatures are in the 20's and we've got some snow falling in the area right now, wind is blowing at around. so there you go, snow showers continuing throughout the rest of the morning. the windy and cold all day long with a high temperature of around 35 degrees. feeling colder then. that temperatures plunge in the teens and single will digit, tonight. that is your fox cast from the weather authority, all right.
7:04 am
bob kelly, where are you starting off. >> hey sue good morning everybody. 7:04. live look at camden, new jersey. this is a white horse pike at the route 30, admiral wilson boulevard. there is ben franklin bridge in the background as we just mentioned. the travel ban is lifted in south jersey, south of that i195 corridor. but before you throw your stuff in the trunk take a look at this, here's a live look at the that spot. that is i195. >> you are good, bob. >> you want to make sure, i wonder if the governor check to make sure road were plowed before he lifted the travel ban here. i mean doesn't look good. south of the i195 corridor, so north of there, again, even the the poor visibility heading up towards new york and north jersey. painter's crossing 202 and route one, roads are wet with you about the row temperatures those wet roads could have icy
7:05 am
spots when you get that dusting of snow. 422 opened for business. travel ban, lifted again south of that i195 corridor which is exit 7a, great adventures for new jersey good to go. you remember they parked plow and salt vehicles too last night. they have to get out there, plow, salt and open up the roadways. the snow emergency rifted, in philadelphia a. that is good news. you are able to park on the snow emergency routes here on market street. a lot of folks hate to drive in the snow all together. if you head out today, two big work horses the market frankford line, all trains making all stops, no a and b service. broad street subway is running, regular services on the dart bus system in delaware, and philly international, most flights were canceled yesterday for today in advance of the storm. airlines will reposition some of the planes here because we
7:06 am
didn't get the snow we thought we were going to get here and you may be able to get a flight out this afternoon. but best deal will be to check with the individual airline today. >> we have the the governor here with a live report. >> newly elect south jersey governor. >> steve keeley in mercer county, steve, congratulations . i do have my first appoint e and that is chief chef and that is ralph sirill o. he has a deli, caterer here in, business for 50 years. he is in business with his brother. he was open up at 5:30 like he was scheduled to be.
7:07 am
i was impressed you were opened. i was impressed with your sandwiches which are this thick. i thought i had had 6:30 live shot. i ate the prop because i could not wait because i have been starving. we have been out working. i had day off yesterday and i still did eight hours by coming in early to be up here in time, for the big, big storm. >> yes. >> all right. well, you came in. you had no intentions, everybody was telling to you stay off the road. you drove in and said i will open up for business as usual. >> as usual, for 30 years we have been here, three times we ever closed, completely and that was when we had 16 and 20-inch storm. this here my customers will be in as soon as it stops and we will be busy rest of the day. >> reporter: one of your customers plowed the parking lot but since did he that fine job, i said on the air about an hour ago it seems like the heavier snow just started to come down around 6:00 o'clock around the trenton area he will come back and redo the the job because i can see no
7:08 am
more pavement or blacktop. >> it will a accumulate more until it stops but this is i think brunt of it is done. >> i told you to be yourself and first thing you said, can't you guys get the this right? i said isn't it better to air on the side of being wrong, saying if you're prepared for 20 inches only get two. that should make you happy. instead of saying you will get two and you get 20. >> i wish iowas in your business, when you are wrong, everybody is happy because we don't after lot have of snow and easier to get through the the next day. when you are dealing with mother nature anything can happen. i'm happy we will not have it with the big game this week. i don't want to have, 16 to 20 inches of snow stopping my customers from coming in. better to be wrong than right in this situation. >> reporter: i like travel ban in new jersey. they keep traveling but they go through yellow and red lights. >> that is exactly right. >> hopefully in the one of your customers. >> this is it, constant traffic. these are not official vehicles at least official
7:09 am
looking vehicles. official people driving them but is there a smart person slowing down before a red light. as a deli owner, you have a problem with everybody being scared off the road, or being told because you have no rolls to make your award winning sandwiches. >> when we have a state of emergency our guy comes from a distance. you know, being in a business for a long time, you learn how to improvise. we will go pick it up. we will be ready, in april hour or two. anybody that is out, we are ready to go. >> no complaint about 18 hour, not even day old multi grain bread. better than most bread. most people at home use more bread. and they are happy with it as well. you still make a good sandwich. >> we will go through a lot of it every day. right now that bread, you
7:10 am
know, it is like in your house, if you have it for five days, this is day old. it will be all right for right now. if you are hungry, you will eat it. >> reporter: you will be opened for everybody who is hungry. new that we have said you are one of the few people with coffee and fresh food you will be mob. we mentioned dunkin' donuts and that got busy. you are not too angry with with us telling you to prepare for worst and not having the worst. >> not a at all, if i'm here i might as well be busy. i have to work 12 hours today, normal day. >> alex and mike, it is only tv weather for ralph. he has his deli t-shirt on. no hat necessary. light snow. hardly any wind out here in trenton. i will get back to my governor duties and maybe lift entire state of emergency. you know, i succeeded, mike was that dallas cowboys stuff. that is the the bottom. that is it. we give up. we are separating. >> final straw. >> jeffery lurie called and
7:11 am
wow like new his box next fall. well, i guess he is not interested. believe it or not, the governor of the north jersey is calling in three minutes and i'm not calling, governor christie is coming in. >> he is watching. that is what this mens. >> yes, he did tweet us 11 minutes ago, the whole ban has been lifted. >> south of 195 is lifted, it was lifted. >> it is okay to drive around. >> that is why it the is okay for jen fred to drive around. she has a media pass anyway, hi jen. >> so we're in toms river. we're doing something exciting, we're driving backwards. i can tell thaw despite the the fact that the driving ban was just lifted, that the cars, in particular snowplows have been on the road since about 3:00 o'clock this morning. this is what they have been facing. they have been facing conditions on side roads, main roads, and all of those roads
7:12 am
in between. there are roads in this area, we're talking about toms river, route 70. route 37 east, that are complete thely snow covered. i know that we have been, making light of the fact that we didn't get as much as some of the predictions, have indicated, yesterday but i can tell you that the people that are waking up in september rally with and eastern snow conditions to worry about. it is not just snow on the road. i don't know if you can tell but the snow is still falling and steve keeley and jenny joyce has said, it is windy and cold in these areas. so again, it isn't as though we have, you know, 3 feet of snow but certainly if you have to get out, if work wants you to be there, and it might be a little difficult, especially if you live in these area. it will be interesting to go see if new jersey, if they cited anyone for driving, mike and alex, because as i said,
7:13 am
from 3:00 in the morning, 4:00 in the morning people were driving. so, i don't think they list toned that travel ban. >> i think, little bit of common sense when it didn't hit, i think it will be okay to drive. >> some people have to go to work. we had to be here. that is why they are on the roads. >> jen, thanks for. that. do you want to see more snow than what we got,. >> david lee miller is in boston. david what are you seeing. >> reporter: i'm seeing a 11 inches of snow. that is the the official figure given just moments ago but there are drifts higher then that. we had sunrise here, a few moments ago and getting our first glimpse. take a look at the the street here. get good idea of the visibility or lack of visibility. not a great deal to see except mound and mound of snow. the as we pan over to boylston street, you will see, that a
7:14 am
caravan of plows and salt, heavy equipment, that down the street for the the past self hours. as fast a as they are clearing the road it continues to snow. three to 4 inches an hour. you still cannot see the blacktop. look at the shoulder. you can see the crew for yourself. a small hundred tane of snow that has been cleared from this intersection. lastly the snow itself is a problem but a along the coastal communities there is a serious issue with flooding. they are experiencing very mild to moderate flooding. they say there could be some serious beach erosion because of that and is there a possibility of mandatory evacuations, in one instance we are told the flooding was so bad that a couple of roads were washed away. a a car was washed away as well. 500 national guard men have been deployed. this may be their first priority going to the coastal area that have have experienced the flooding. right now as i said in the
7:15 am
beginning, 11 inches of snow in boston but this ain't over. we could get, parts of the massachusetts, as much as, 3 feet of snow in this state and in this city this still could be a record breaker, back to you. >> i see streetlights are on are there any power outages at all. >> i'm sorry. >> reporter: i didn't hear you. >> there are any power outages at all a. >> reporter: yes, there are. there are some 10,000 people that do not have power and that full another might be a lot higher. it is dry here. it is not real moist, and wet because it is coal. 15 degrees in boston. but along the coastal area the snow is moist, clinging to those power lines bringing them down and those are the a areas where we have a lot of people that do not have electricity and we're told restoring it could take several days. back to you. >> thanks, david lee miller. they are in boston where it is still snowing. they will get five or six more
7:16 am
inches, sue. >> if you are wondering where is our foot of snow, it is in boston. >> we should be grateful. >> should we. >> yeah. >> boston has had world championship in four sports over the last ten years. we have one, the the phillies. now they have our snow. >> they have the boston. >> they are cheaters too the patriots. >> you will recall that the 12 inches was high end of a range of accumulation. here's is what going on. the brunt of the storm where we see bright white from the coast of maine all the way through eastern massachusetts, road island, eastern connecticut and eastern part of the road island. we have snow falling in our area, which could make for tricky travel, of course, it will as we always say, it doesn't take much to make a mess, and we certainly do have have some very light snow
7:17 am
falling in lancaster county, lehigh valley and chester county. snow is very light there. heavier around buckingham and most of bucks county right now, middletown township, bensalem, getting some decent snowfall, it appears from radar this morning. we still have light snow falling in philadelphia, across the the river in pemberton, light snow as well and then we will go down to the jersey shore and we will see light snow, but down around the beaches of delaware. it is the exit strategy of the storm but it is intensifying moving toward the north east. with these bands coming back we are not seeing a lot of snow but we will still be seeing some more. we still have the blizzard warning in effect for places that we just told you that the the snow is the the the worst. winter storm warnings for new york, no longer a blizzard warning in new york city but they still expect a lot of snow. they have 6 inches on the ground in central park and more is falling. here in philadelphia we still expect additional accumulation with our winter weather
7:18 am
advisory continuing through the the rest of the morning and then that includes burlington county, cape may county, i'm sorry, camden county, and bucks and art of, and bucks and the poconos, up there. so yeah, lower snowfall totals than what we saw yesterday but still additional accumulations. closer to two then 4 inches in the philadelphia area. more as you go north and east of us. temperatures, it is really cold outside this morning. there is a lot of cold air around, 26 degrees in philadelphia, and, the in the 20's just about every where else, and now you factor in those wind and the wind chills are in the teens this morning, below zero wind chills. it is brutal the with the cold and whatever snow we do get will be blowing around with these wind. wind gusts in the shore are in the 28 miles an hour range in atlantic city. here is your seven day forecast. we have blowing snow around this morning, and 30 degrees for a high temperature but with those wind, and those gusty wind it is not going to feel like 30 degrees. it will feel colder than that.
7:19 am
tomorrow, breezy, 34 degrees, we have a clipper system coming through late in the day on thursday. that will be not be a morning event. another chance of some snow in the morning on ground hog day which is monday, bob kelly, of next week. please touch museum is opening up at 11:00. lots of kid off school. there is something for them to do. >> if you drop your kid off here the at the station, mike willing take your kid to the please touch museum, when it opens up today at 11:00. >> what a guy. >> pile them up in the news van. >> thanks, bob. >> 476 as you roll through delaware county, all of the pennsylvania major roadways are opened, they have been salted, they have been treated. they are wet. today a lot of the volume, the morning rush hour, it is non-existent a a lot of that depend upon the kids and the school. here's a live look at i-95 right here near philadelphia international airport. the notice the the low ceiling
7:20 am
here but i don't think we have to worry about it. i'll tell you about the airport in a second. 202 through chester county is looking good. debbie a says thanks for reminding all of the drivers to clean off their cars, completely, before they get on the roads. i always end up behind those dingdongs where the snow is falling back on the guy behind you, the snow emergency has been lifted in philadelphia, and so it is okay to park on those snow emergency route. >> we still want to see your picture. >> people are creative. here's one picture. >> of the dog. >> this is from jody, the the most disappointed about the snowfall little radar was hoping for lots of snow to play in. >> cute name. >> a cute little puppy. >> i'm apologize to go jody what am i apologizing about. >> i don't know. >> still something out there. >> when we come back we will talk
7:21 am

7:25 am
was predict but we're attempting to coordinate with our neighbors in new york city and new york state to try to make sure that we lift travel bans at the same time so we don't create bottlenecks whether it is south jersey, north injuries any new york. >> we have decided because of what happened today, we're going to succeed ape make a separate state of south jersey, governor. >> those rumors have been there for a long time. we won't let you, don't worry. >> you won't let us. >> does that mean you still want us. >> you still want us. >> of course, i do, i love south jersey. >> but you you hate coming to philly for eagles game. >> if you were hearing the things they were yelling at me, you wouldn't like it too much. >> we can get kind of tough. people were yelling things at you, governor at eagles game. >> i love eagles fans because they are passionate, you you know, they care deeply about their team, so, you know, i
7:26 am
always love coming to south jersey. my wife is from suburban philadelphia, so, we have a lot of love for the region. >> we will be passionate about the eagles. >> jeffery lurie called this morning and he does want a hug. >> anytime jeffery want a hug i'm happy to give him one. >> we're all kind of embarrassed, you cannot control the weather and all that, yesterday, you came out really strong, you know, about being careful, do you feel, not betrayed, how do you feel. >> listen, they were wrong. this is my sixth winter as the governor of new jersey. we have had storms that were worse than people predicted, less than they were predict and as they predict. it is just the way it goes. when we are dealing with human life and protection of human life i don't think you can ever be too careful. believe me, i was than the thrilled this morning when i may 5:30 a.m. phone call with
7:27 am
people with the snow but it is way it also. it is part of the job. what i said yesterday a at my press conference was let's be careful, monday night and tuesday, so we can make wednesday as productive a day as possible for new jersey and i think that is exactly what will happen. >> i was listening to your press conference yesterday. what was i go to go say, oh, shoot. after you made your comments i came back and said we should call him governor storm, you know, irene, san i, you are get gooding at this. >> listen. my family says exactly the same thing. there has been more of these blizzard, snowstorms, hurricane in the last five plus years since i have been governor. i said yesterday in my press conference is i would have preferred it in the to be that way but it does make us better at this. i think we're very well prepare. that is part of why things are going to be okay this morning in south jersey. >> you so you will be able to
7:28 am
handle any kind of crisis when you are running for president and become running for president of the you had. >> very good try mike. >> we had to. >> you formed a pac. you are going to new hampshire. >> well, listen, i love new hampshire, very pretty place to be in july. >> you going there in vacation. >> he goes up there to get syrup for his french toast. great comment, what is the deal with french toast. >> listen, i have in comment on french toast. >> governor christie thanks for calling in. >> thanks for your hard work we appreciate it. so again, you can drive now, ban has been lifted in south jersey, south of, 195. >> that is the cut off there. >> still having some troubles in north jersey. while you were sleeping facebook went down. >> yeah, it seems that the world was about to end some people felt like it was, social media what do you do. oh, gosh. we will look at this and some reaction on twitter.

we knew we were on the southwestern edge of this monmouth storm that is causing tons of problems with these blizzard conditions in new england but what happened was the storm just stay far enough east to not impact our area it is impacting parts of the new jersey but unfortunately a trough to the wednesday moved it out of the way. that storm could not get a as far west as we anticipated. when the storm cannot get that far west it means that it cannot spread its snow in, as quickly as would you think. so it took a while to develop this far west ward, the bans that we did sianni therefore, our window closed on snow accumulations. we have a system to the west of thaws kick it out. we have slower development. we have dry air to overcome. we did not anticipate this much drying at the the low levels, mean you see all of the snowfall and those big fat flakes cannot amount to much here. we had a lot to overcome. we could not due to the system towards the west. shorter window to accumulate.
