this is an auto garage, it's also a city salvage yard and luckily the fire happened so late in the evening that nobody was inside and nobody was hurt during this massive, intense fire. of course this business was totally destroyed and the owner's daughter tells us that they believe the cause was electrical, perhaps sparked by some sort of equipment malfunction that was inside the business. of course that's why investigators are here. we talked to a witness last night who described the scene when she got here. >> it was just blazing everywhere. the fire, the fumes, everything. and the firefighters running back and forth trying to, you know, take it out. >> reporter: and back out here live again, a lot of investigators just arrived on the scene. fire department, police trying to investigate the cause of this fire.

9:05 am
problem. >> absolutely. it's so unfair to the students in the philadelphia school district. i got involved because several teachers live in my district. every single student has to pass three tests to graduate, algebra, english literature and a course and a test in biology. but what we have here is a situation where students at overbrook high school do not have a certified teacher, haven't had a lab in three years, and their textbook is dated 2004, which means that the material, the common core material that they're to be tested on is not in that textbook. >> and the kids certainly feel like they're being short-changed, they just get handouts and they know this is a system that really is an injustice to them. i looked at some of the numbers, they had maybe 4% of the kids at overbrook passing biology.
9:06 am
the year before that, 2%. and they need this in order to get a diploma. what can we do? >> well, this is totally unacceptable. and i have put in several pieces of legislation to say that the graduation test should be up to the local school districts. and another one asking -- another piece asking for a moratorium on this testing until such time as every district has adequate resources. you know, this is like a three-legged stool. you want to have standards, you want to have accountabilities through testing these standards. but if you do not provide a school and school district with the resources, then it's unfair to the students, because they don't have an equal opportunity to learn. >> senator, thank you so much for bringing this to our attention and thank you also for your time this morning. >> it's been my pleasure. thank you. >> let's get another voice on in one, weighing in, education advocate helen gim is joining us

this morning. what did you think when you heard this news? >> shocked but not surprised. overbrook isn't just missing biology. overbrook is missing enough school counselors, enough administrators, enough classroom assistance, they don't have enough teachers in the classroom. overbrook like many philadelphia schools across the city have lost dozens of school staff. it makes it difficult for people to be able to learn responsibly and it makes our schools a really difficult place to be as a student. and it's just impossible for me to understand how this situation doesn't outrage every single local elected and state official in this city and in this commonwealth to do something about it today. >> these children are still being taught biology, but why isn't that good enough? >> because as the senator mentioned earlier, we have a

punishing graduation mandate on students to actually learn and pass a very difficult biology exam at the end of their course. they don't get to do this -- you know, this is a very serious situation, where children are being held accountable for the failures of the state and city to make sure that our schools are fully funded and fully staffed. >> thank you as always we appreciate your tame and opinion as being an advocate for the kids. thank you. let us know what you think about this whole situation. use our hashtag #fox29weekend. >> the school district did release a statement saying biology is available to students this year at this school. there are five sections currently being taught. students are also enrolled in an online program and also a key stone preparation course. the school is still looking for a certified biology teacher, however. >> good morning, everybody. i'm mike jerrick. >> and i'm alex holly. and this is the trend. mike, you know that phrase, the cat got your tongue?

if you just have the semisweet mors els you use in your chocolate chips it will still come out delicious. now just pour it over the top of the chocolate. let it sit for like 30 seconds or so. after its sat for a little bit. i prefer an immersable blender. if you don't have one, you can use a whisk. a good quality ganache has almost like a pudding consistency to it. i know it's done when there's no more lumps, nice and smooth. now you need to let this sit another five minutes. don't want to too hot because we're going to have to whisk in some butter. now after it sat for five minutes you add the butter. see that nice shine. use the blender. now the butter is emulsifying. you can actually use a stand
