7:09 am
in the philadelphia a fire department are out three hours plus and counting and getting wet because of this water. you can see ice covering their pants, jackets, hood, helmets, everything and hopefully that truck will give them some warmth. here's a fire fighters coming with everything but his eyes covered walking like a robot so he is owe stiff because their equipment and jackets and pants freeze because they have layers of ice on top of him. great job by the fire department out here and mike, three different fires on the coldest night of the year, probably one of the busiest nights of the year for the fire tenth. here's flames shooting through the top a republicans that blue sky backdrop. snow going straight east up steady of straight up. you people in west philadelphia, all the way down to the university of pennsylvania. we're on fifth second street. don't be surprised if you are breathing thick smoke this morning because we breathed it earlier there earl are and that smoke is coming down the

7:13 am
>> white out conditions and icy road create a nightmare for drivers in indiana. the check out this 20 car pile up that left stranded for hours. drivers said they tried to brake when they saw the accident but some of them just could not stop because of the weather and ice on the roadways leading to a chain reaction. fortunately, no one was really seriously hurt. >> well, we had a hundred car pile up, in pennsylvania, over the week end. >> first the snow and wind pounded massachusetts yesterday. as much as 2 feet of snow felon new england. >> yeah i'm sure they are like here we go again. >> the the the situation is expect to get worse. forecasters say another storm may hit the area, by the middle of this week. >> same storm we will get. >> yes, you know at the weather channel you know this guy, jim cantore where ever the weather is bad, jim like to show up. >> that is where they send him. >> that is right. he was back in the boston area because they were getting two more feet of snow. well, jim was outside in plymouth, massachusetts when he experienced, thunder snow.
7:14 am
so it is snowing but up in the cloud you hear claps of thunder like it would be a spring storm, right. >> yes. >> and it made him very excited. listen. >> oh yes, yes, yes we got it, baby. we got it. wow. wow. we got it. listen to that. will listen to that. oh, baby. >> he lost it. >> as jeff cole would say that is what jacks you up. >> he wanted to get live thunder snow. you see lightening and hear the thunder. the it happened during a live report for the weather channel. >> we know that is rare. you you can talk about something and once tv comes on it never happens. i understand why he is excited but my goodness. they caught this on camera six times. >> six different times he got excited like that. >> my daughter jessica says if you are where jim cantore is,
7:15 am
you are experiencing very bad weather. >> that is right. >> you don't want to be see jim. >> when they see him they he run in the other direction. you don't want to be there. it looks like we will not tie our record low in philadelphia it is a three. now that the sun has listen i don't think we will see it, but we have tied a record in trenton with one. we have broken the record with one he below so as we have move down to wilmington that is a tie, 2 degrees. this is a new record in atlantic city of 2 degrees. we have just some records someplace, just not here in philadelphia. this is what it feels like. thinks an important number. it is a value known as the wind chill and it takes the temperature and factors in the wind and tells you what it feels like begins your skin outside. well, you don't want to expose if any skin, at least not much, because it feels like 16 below in philadelphia, 33 below in the mountains, it feels like 18 below in
7:16 am
lancaster and a pottstown and a wind chillies 18 below. also in atlantic city. fourteen below in delaware. poor jenny joyce is experiencing 18-degree below wind chills in wilmington delaware right now. dangerous wind chills mean a wind chill advisory for us, a wind chill warning in the poconos mountains and lancaster for these wind that are still kicking up there. so, ultimate doppler is now showing our next snowstorm. this is not a clipper system like the last couple of them have been. this will be some decent measurable snowfall for us. it is still centered this low pressure system in memphis, tennessee very icy morning there snow to the north, rain to the south, it is so cold here but we will just get snow and when does it arrive, it looks like late tonight have after we get increase in cloud around 5:00 p.m. about ten or 11:00 o'clock it starts to spread into southwest of us and then by midnight it is starting to snow in philadelphia.
7:17 am
now it is piling up. by 4:00 a.m. by 7:00 a.m. by noon, gone. probably by 11:00 o'clock that storm is out of here. then we anticipate another clipper. now the air behind this clipper will be very cold. maybe a few snow bursts on wednesday night but probably no additional accumulation or not much but we are expecting decent accumulations. winter storm warning for tonight and tomorrow for south of philadelphia. to the north of us, it is a winter weather advisory and any where from three to 5 inches in this area here, philadelphia east of us and west of us and then down to the south, five or more, some places could get 8 inches of snow out of this and to the north in the pocono mountains just one to 3 inches. so here are events. the brutal cold today, morning snow tomorrow. clipper with no showers on web night and thursday and friday. by friday morning we could be zero for our low temperature,
7:18 am
and then more snow possible over the weekend. so the ad ventures continue bob kelly in our seven day forecast, yikes. >> rough week ahead of us here. 7:18. live look at northeast philadelphia heading out the the front door, no problems at all, lighter than normal traffic this morning because of the holiday and all of the kid off from school. the schuylkill expressway is looking good as well. little bit of sun glare starting to pop up and around that curve but it will in the warm us up. just watch for that snow blowing back on to the roadway especially as you you come up upon a opened field on either side. the just enough to put a crystal says on the road surface and make it slippery. the fox chase line suspended from lawn dale up to fox chase. paoli thorndale line running with 15 minute delays because of amtrak equipment problems. all of the mass transit systems are running on some sort of special weekend/holiday scheduled.
7:19 am
be prepared if you are standing outside waiting for bus or train it is not a regular monday morning rush hour schedule. the they are on a special schedule. three separate fire locations going strong right now in the city, the big one here in west philadelphia, 52nd, between spruce and locust, lot of local detours and on top of that, a local power outage in the area, so we've got peco crews on the scene as well. the 42 and 52 buses are on a detour. to northeast philadelphia, fronteac and benton local detours are on a fire location there red cross is stepping into help folks here along erie avenue where they were pushed out of their homes between 17th and 18th street with an a a early morning fire. that has the route two bus, on a detour. the mass transit otherwise, looking good, check with the the airport, we could see delays throughout the daze as that storm moves closer to us here in to philadelphia. mike and alex, back over to you. we will get back to weather and traffic in a second. you ever watch pro basketball especially college bass he death ball where a guy is standing there the at free

7:21 am
the curtain is yanked open and there is a 52nd skit. >> it seems like they would want this to be taken over board. >> this looks like it was shot maybe before the a game to give everybody a idea. >> it is creative though. >> apparently the ncaa has not stepped into try to change it. it is not against the rules. >> there is miley cyrus. >> that is hilarious. >> but the fact that it is working, is fantastic. >> it is usually air brush pictures that had has people talking and getting upset. cindy crawford put out pictures where she's in the air brush at all. >> how is she looking. >> she looks darn good. if you look closely there is a crack or two. but i'll take it. this weather, we decided we will not deal witt, we will dream of summer. so, kathy says take me to sunny florida please. that is beautiful photo, kathy. and perry says only where it will reach my chair.
