these flights are arriving and departing and as sue mentioned as this moves out of here things could get better as the day goes on at the airport. but slow go on 202 working your way through chester county. the most of the road are snow covered or partially snow covered so you can delay your trip that would be the best suggestion i could give you this morning. the most. >> we will check on different reporters in different areas. >> look at that. >> this is "good day philadelphia". >> look at all of our reporters. >> these are our reporters. >> there is our garden nome, jennifer joyce in delaware. >> we have jen fred in the roving car. >> the jenny mobile. >> and then we have steve keeley. >> he is in south jersey. >> let check with steve. >> hi steve. >> we have been on the air since 3:00 and i'm in south jersey and i have a big question to ask and i wish i was back in philadelphia what changed that had philadelphia schools change from a two hour

7:08 am
you can see even though the snow has stopped here in south jersey, far reaches of south jersey, it is rough driving and plows have done kelce drive over and over again. it is slushy when you switch lanes, pass, make a left turn or right turn in the driveway. you can see this is a busy diner where we are. it the is complete liz snow covered here in the entrance way. chris, go to the left on your ground here and show where driveway meets the road. rough go out there. didn't mean to bring all of the fun festivities that we normally have to a open but i'm feeling so bad for those houses of parents out there, whose lives have been abruptly changed, quite a bit twice now, in the same morning and they still to have deal with their own lives getting to work and figuring out what they will do today. >> i wonder how many people are involved in making that decision. they got suede by somebody, some thing good to know the the process. >> lets call in the school district doctor, hite is a good friend of the show and

7:10 am
a lot of the vehicles we are watching are being cautious and they are taking it slowly because even along the side here it is absolutely slushy. we are packing up. we will leave this area we have a 8:40 press conference with the governor of delaware, governor jack markell. we will get more answer from his him as far as the the state of delaware is concerned in the next hour and a half or so. >> yes, he is dealing with the whole state. down in the southern part of the delaware it is worse than the north. >> you have got that right. you mentioned, somebody was irritated with me. >> someone on twitter, she just val willry bauer. she said are you grumpy. you seem irritated with mike. >> are you. >> it is so funny, turned to mike and said mike, did i do something. >> you seem fine to me. >> we like to play around on snow days. >> we joke a little bit. >> just leave me alone. >> niagara falls, have you

7:27 am
specifically when it comes to closing the schools. >> well, we basically look at can we have streets cleared for the buses, and as you all know the conditions the in the city of philadelphia, with our streets, they are very small and not very easy to clear and also can we have sidewalks and public transportation, many of our students take public transportation. so it is all about are we ready to clear streets and sidewalks and can be public transportation be running at time. >> the at first you felt like it would be ready, hence, two hour delay but then it is not going to be all cleared out, so then lets close. >> so there was a shift, in my understanding is that the storm, they put out a winter storm warning right after we made a two hour delay a announcement and they shifted the snow precipitation to stop later on in the morning. we first thought it would stop snowing by 5:00 in the morning. as you can all see out in the
7:28 am
window we are still having some precipitation. >> i never heard that. i never any of our forecast say it would stop at 5:00 in the morning, it was going to stop at 9:00 or 10:00. >> who are you guys listening to the the national weather service. >> that is correct we use the national weather service for our forecast. >> you guys have anyone, physically driving around looking at the roadways or do you just rely on waiting on reports from different entities. >> well, the the city has folks, driving around and checking the conditions of the streets and making a determination, and then they give us the best assessment that they have. >> we just had some viewers calling in saying they were upset, they were already on their way today care and on their way to the schools and then we're closing. >> it is not an easy job to judge mother nature and also not an easy job to information cast what the conditions will be on the streets. sometimes you have to mack a call early in the morning and
7:29 am
we then of have to reverse ourselves, we will, for the safety of the students and the safety of our children we will reverse our call. >> that is true, it is all about safety. >> i guess over there the at school district you need to start listening to the forecast at fox 29 and national weather service, do you prom toys do that, fernando. >> i will keep an eye on the the forecast. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> as we go to break lets look at another pick. >> yes, this is from kristin murphy, just settling in for their snow day, how cute. they will after lot of fun and bond ing time today. send in pictures using fox 29 snow.

7:33 am
of the accumulation is already happened, but we will see a little bit more and we should be right within the range as we were predicting three to six in the metro a area, more to the south, less to the north. 15 degrees right now. high later on of only 28 degrees, even after the sun comes out. we will see slippery conditions today and tonight with that overnight le of 13. that is your fox cast for tuesday from the weather authority. any improvement, bob kelly on the roads. >> just a little bit. live look at i-95 southbound, excuse me, this is northbound right here near broad street. an accident worked on at the broad street exit. if you look at the travel lanes, there is at least one plow train that comes through here at some point i would think to move some of that snow off but since all morning long we have been looking for the plows. south jersey a little bit of the jammo here north on the freeway stack up from the atlantic city expressway all the way in toward that walt whitman bridge. just watching it on the on and off ramps.

she has been watching. we have been critical of snowplow situation, south jersey, philadelphia, delaware, major road. well, we are here to to show you that here in the the township as they call tonight washington township the snow plows are looking like they are finally make something headway. this is 47 south, delsea drive for people who live in the township and literally 20 minutes ago this was completely covered with snow. so as i said, we started to see some snowplows. i would say just before 7:00. so by 7:41 approximately where we are you can see road are getting more cleared. that doesn't mean they are not slippery. i want to you take a look at this van on the right-hand side of the road. remember we talk about this earlier this morning. it was icy, slushy underneath the this snow do you see this guy, girl driver having a little difficulty and right behind a makeshift plow. it looks like what do we call

that a bobcat. so what we are seeing on these major roads is that the plows are now addressing them. so as we take a right, right here on bethel mill road you can see thinks the problem, if you are waking up this morning, and you have to get from your house to a major, medium sized artery you will have a terrific amount of difficulty. look at that, if you don't have someone to come plow, shovel you have to do that as well. so this is washington township, and again, mike and alex, we have to say hi, marley she watches all the time and we love marley. >> kisses. >> thanks, marley. >> thanks, jen. >> so much love here. >> that is for sure. >> this is still a manageable storm though, it is slippery but it is manageable. >> we will get through with it. >> look at our snow globe isn't that nice it is nice. >> look at this, patty girl.

>> when do you get paid and not paid a. so lets bring in our amy feldman. amy good to see you again. >> good to see you again. >> we will get your shot here in just a second. >> i haven't seen you in like a year. >> it has been a long time, mike. >> well, answer the the question. >> who gets paid, who doesn't get paid. >> the answer is, that unfortunately there is no law in the united states that says you have to be paid for work you do not do. so what does that mean. it means if you don't go to work, there is no law that say you have to be paid for it. that is true, whether or not you really wanted to go to work but the kids school was closed or inn compliment weather, your choice or not you will still in the get paid for. >> they might make you take a vacation day. >> so, if you are lucky enough to have a vacation day, and it doesn't feel very lucky right now because a vacation day is something you want to take
8:34 am
because of good weather in the summer when you want to head down to the shore early. but on a day like this, if you are entitled to vacation which means you get paid for a day you take off, if you take off today work or not it is because you cannot show up at work or are kids schools are closed or for whatever the wet are reason is, your boss can force to you take this as a vacation day. >> wow. >> now some people are saying, well if i hear these other office are are closed and this is not the case in philadelphia but city and government offices are closed then do we have some leeway there. >> that is another issue. again, it gets back to how you are paid. if you are paid by a private employer, if you are not a government worker and there is no policy on it, the the law says that the government can actually say have been stay home, everybody stay off the the roads, right. state of emergency. then what happens. >> let's say i want to come in but you have closed.
8:35 am
>> then what happens. >> do you get paid good too bad for you. >> and so what we talk about earlier was if you have vacation day, and your boss can make you use a vacation day. you will get paid but one fewer vacation day. but if you are a non-exempt worker, hourly worker and you you don't get paid vacation and you want to come to work for example but you can't or you don't really want to come to work but you can, you don't get paid for the the hours you don't work. >> someone tweeted me and said delaware has a non-official personal day. >> interestingly delaware relatively recently passed a law that says if there is a state of emergency, if they come on and say everybody except for non-essential personnel, stay off of the roads, your boss cannot fire you for not coming into work. but the the law says now in delaware you don't have to be paid if you don't work. that is same law they have in new jersey and pennsylvania. >> i want your take on this. how about philadelphia passed that paid leave law, how many
8:36 am
days away from starting. >> that is a good question but that is a sick day law. that is sick day. so for every 40 hours you work you accrue an hour up to a certain number of days off. but that is first of all only for a sick day. you can say, a cold, and i surprisingly have a cold, that is, that is between you and your boss, to deciding whether or not that is really sick. >> about an hour ago hillary clinton says she agrees with that philadelphia new law. >> really. >> yeah. >> popular support. >> she's not officially running for mayor of philadelphia. >> or president of the united states. >> good to see you. >> good to see you. >> i know you watch the show, did you see alex performing as bruno mars. >> i did. >> bm as we like to say or i have heard you use. >> mike's name. >> that is our take on uptown punk which is done by a name by the mark ronson, who made the original version. >> something happened with this last night, we will tell
