weekend. a new campaign against standardized tests. >> the ones who are taking the brunt of it you are are our children. >> you can weigh in. >> he's a trainer to the stars, and now he has a challenge for you. can you handle it? >> one local man finds a new passion in his pain. how he is using a talent to recover from something pretty unthinkable. we're taking you in focus. and good morning, everybody. we're taking a live look right now at the radar.
8:01 am
because you know the weather is going to be one of the biggest news stories of this morning. we do have that storm on the way. how much snow is going to fall? we will break it all down. >> good morning. it's a beautiful day inside. it's a little cold outside right now. good morning. are you having a good one so far? >> good morning to you, bill anderson. i have my thermostat set at 75 but it's still only 65 inside my house. so it is a struggle to stay warm. we're looking at the people out there in one of the bus stops. get a cup of the coffee, tea. >> the big discussion has been the weather. people dealing with the weather, the snow, the cold. i'm kind of the selfie stick guy. i grabbed my selfie stick, went outside, talked with some people to see how they're dealing with
8:02 am
the weather. >> i'm not. >> it's so cold. >> reporter: more snow is coming tomorrow. >> oh, my god. we don't want more snow. stop it already. >> reporter: you're not enjoying it? >> no. i'm hating it. >> reporter: any questions for our weather people? >> when's summer coming? >> not soon enough. we've got team coverage on this one. we've got caitlin roth our meteorologist, we've got sabina out there. but first let's start with caitlin with the check on when the storm is going to be over our heads. >> good morning to you both. june 21st if you can make it. it seems like forever and it is. we are still in full force as you see some snow moving in to western sections of pennsylvania out ahead of this storm system. bringing snow, ice and rain all
8:03 am
across the midwest and tennessee valley, pushing into the philadelphia region by later on this afternoon. we've got watches and warnings out in for the area. that will last until 6:00 a.m. sunday morning. in the white section, this a strip of the highest snow accumulations predicted. that's where there's a winter storm warning. back to the winter weather advisories, less snow expected into south jersey and delaware. by 1:00 the first flakes start moving into delaware county and into central montgomery county but north and west of there you'll probably see the snow even earlier late morning. it's in the pittsburgh area. by 3:00 it's snowing everywhere and it can be snowing good at times. that will continue through 5:00, 6:00. check out that pink, that's some warmer air mixing in, possible icing for south jersey and
8:04 am
delaware. the warm air over takes the cold air. the rest of us change to rain as we head towards midnight. starting off with snow, ending with rain. temperatures still bitterly cold. it was a big story all week and it still is, single digits. this is actually a lot better than the 2 degrees we started out yesterday morning. but we still have wind chills in the negative for most of our western suburbs. we'll get slightly warmer thanks to the snow moving through. here is a look at snowfall amounts. in that area is where we could see 4 to 6 inches of snow. be careful on the roads, especially as we transition to rain later on tonight. we may see some brief icing though it doesn't look like a smooth transition. 29 the overnight low and sunday
8:05 am
looks like a decent day. we'll have more ahead on the seven-day forecast. >> all right, caitlin, thank you. we think. >> we got tweets from people saying you're from philly, man up and handle the cold weather. >> i generally can deal with it and now we're talking about below zero. sabina is in cherry hill seeing how people are preparing for this. are people getting ready for the snow coming? >> reporter: oh, bill, people are here at wegmans, it's pretty happening out here. we found the cutest little shopper. good morning, guys. >> good morning. how is everyone doing this morning. >> how are you getting ready for the snow? >> you know the standards, bread, milk, what do we need? >> oatmeal. >> what are you worried right now, cold or snow?
8:06 am
>> i'm most worried about cabin fever. as you can tell this kid is going to go crazy if we don't keep him busy. >> bread, milk. >> that's right. >> you got your shovels? >> yeah. >> that's good. this is the shovel situation going on right now here at wegmans. but don't worry, i asked around and when i saw this and i said is there a run on shovels, it's late in the season. it is colder here than it is in alaska right now. can you believe it? >> i see there are shovels that are still left there. so there's a run on shovels. people are getting the bread and milling, everybody wants to make french toast when it's snowing. so far it seems relatively calm. >> yeah, wegmans is always pretty busy but people are getting out here early this morning because they know that
8:07 am
snow is going to come later. more and more they seem like they're worried about this cold weather. we saw people out here, all kinds of bundled up. we saw one guy in a ski suit. he was really warm. people worried about the cold and they're already sick and tiirtd of the snow. >> we know some people are changing their plans, man yonk had to move their mummers. >> sometimes you see fires, we're not exactly sure how it got started, but there was a fire in lindenwold, and people were displaced and they're still looking in to trying to figure out what started this fire and we'll bring you more information as we get it. >> we want to tell you about an accident. two people had to go to the hospital because of that crash. what you are seeing is an
8:08 am
accident at fifth and lehigh. this was just after midnight. pretty bad one right there. we know one of those rolled. police are investigating. at 8:07, the archdiocese of philadelphia says plans are right on track moving along for the pope's visit come september. fundraising is in full swing. they've already raised $35 million. the four-day conference is going to be capped off with a visit from pope francis. the money is going to pay for the security, the transportation. philadelphia is the first city to host the world meeting of families which will run from february 22nd to the 25th. >> the things that people are talking about this morning. there was a huge fire in a high-rise in dubai. look at this video. huge fires, the winds were whipping up. people who were standing there
8:09 am
and watching it were seeing debris fall to the streets. they're investigating it. they're not exactly sure what caused it. and thankfully no serious injuries. in the video you could see some of the people who had been displaced standing outside in their pajamas. we're told it will be days before the upper floors are allowed back in before they can start the rebuilding. >> here in our area, it's one of the very favorite things that we do. this is a live stream of what's happening. we're in about hour 15 this morning. this is where we have the penn state students of course dancing to raise money. there's more than 700 students there right now. they'll be dancing for 46 hours. it's not going to end at sunday until 4:00. they raised so much money. do you know this is the largest student fundraising initiative in the whole country? this goes to fighting pediatric
8:10 am
cancer. this has been happening since 1977 and since then they have collected more than $114 million. way to go. this has been trending on twitter. and keep sending us your pictures. we have a whole bunch right now, this is the action happening out there. a lot of them use those go-pro cams as well. bill, over to you. >> love those things. we love getting them. we keep it interactive so keep sending them to us. coming up, there's a lot of controversy going on about standardized testing. people are worried about these tests. and of course, snow days. schools possibly canceled. it's cold outside guys. we can handle it, but that type of stuff is going on here. make sure you're prepared. only in philly. >> a robber goes into a gas station in the middle of the afternoon and attacks a clerk.
8:11 am
the suspect asks the clerk to use his phone and pulled out a gun. the clerk's dog wouldn't have it, the suspect took off. when you look at this video, it's all too commonplace. you've got the street urchin asking for a favor and tries to rob the clerk. the clerk's pet bull basically protects his owner. when you look at policing, for example, canines are an intregal part of policing. whether it's good to have a dog or a gun, this dog truly is a super hero. he probably saved this guy's life. that's my take.
8:14 am
8:15 am
through. it's already showing and they haven't even taken the test yet. my first grader came home the other day and cried because he couldn't -- he didn't feel like going to karate practice. he said mom, i'm just tired. and started to cry. in first grade. what are we doing? what are we doing to our kids? >> those are the ads. these are two of the moms. let me start with you, nicole. why do you think there's a problem with the testing? >> i think it's setting our kids up to fail. it's not giving them a chance. setting them up to fail before they even start. it's putting a lot of pressure on the kids. we're taking funding that should be used for education and we're putting it towards an 8 to 10 hour test. the kids are feeling the effects of that.
8:16 am
there's an angst in the schools. the teachers and the kids are all wrapped up in this. it's not what education is about. >> have you seen that in your family? >> absolutely. especially with homework. everything is parcc driven. they talk about this parcc college ready. they're always stressed. my kids love school, they're pretty good students, they're involved. they hate it right now. they have wonderful teachers. but they're constantly -- it's just this pressure to do well on this test. and it's measuring them based on a few hours, a few days of one test. and that's supposed to tell you that they're doing well in school or not? it's just -- it doesn't make sense to us. >> and parcc is the name of the test in new jersey, there's also keystone exams that people are getting ready for in
8:17 am
pennsylvania. what have they said to you? a lot of people would say testing is important because we have to have a yardstick that is something we can measure all of our schools by. what's your frustration. >> i agree that testing is have important. however, the way they're implementing this test in particular, the parcc test, students are not ready for it. the teachers aren't ready for it. the technology that is required, the cost is one of my personal biggest frustrations. >> why? >> put the money back into public education. we're spending billions of dollars to implement this test. there are no clearcut answers. we're not sure how the tests are going to be scored, how the children are going to be evaluated. how the steechers are going to be evaluated. now they're indicating that test scores won't even be available until next october. why are we implementing all this frustration on the children. my kids come home, my fifth grader and seventh grader are two completely different
8:18 am
children. my seventh grader school has always been easy to him and this year -- there's nothing fun at all. my children learn completely differently. so if if the teachers are not given another five minutes and say you know what, let's try to work on this a separate way, everybody is learning the test the same exact way and not all students are the same. >> would either of you opt out in new jersey. >> yes, we both already did. it's called refusing. >> let me get to a comment. maybe your children go to a school that is doing well but we've got to help all kids, no child left behind. let's look at a statement, this is actually a tweet. a lot of people have comments on this one. overtesting is hurting our kids, our schools. kids need time to learn, teachers need time to teach. children are anything but standard so why are we allowing
8:19 am
testing take teaching time to teach. let's look at the department of education. these new parcc assessments are the most advanced tool that new jersey has ever had to measure student performance. they were designed to give schools data that can help improve the classroom instruction and to provide parents with meaningful feedback that tells them how their child is progressing academicically. that's from the new jersey department of education. this is certainly a hot button issue. thank you for your time and we certainly want to have the comments from everybody out there that children that may be getting testing right now are ready for this. let us know what you think, use our hashtag #fox29weekend. >> i'm bruce gordon. in the predawn hours of tuesday
8:20 am
morning as a few inches fell on the region, the school district announced classes would get under way two hours late. and parents complained. one facebook message read they closed schools because of the temple today it's almost as cold plus it's snowing and the schools are open, really? around two hours later, at 6:30 a.m., came an official change of plans. philly schools would now be closed for the day. and parents complained. one tweet put it this way. you close schools for this? come on. it's like shoveling baby powder. we're doomed as a nation. on friday morning there was more grousing as public school parents learned that catholic schools were closed for the day because the bitter cold temperatures while their kids were expected to go to school. in all cases, the public and parochial school officials say their model is simple, safety first. my take? as parents of three now grown
8:21 am
kids my wife and i have had our share of mornings trying to figure out how our schedule was going to be impacted by our kids' snow days. but let's be fair. it's not easy for school officials to make the right call and make it early enough to avoid inconveniencing mom and dad. some districts are geographically large. one neighborhood may get 2 inches of snow, another 5 or 6. school officials don't want to cancel classes at the first flake of snow. they know that has scheduling implications, vacation implications later on in the year, but stay open on a dicey day and watch a young child get hurt on an icy road accident? obviously that's far worse. bot online, school officials are doing the best they can. aim your anger at the real cull plits, the meteorologists like caitlin roth who cause all of this nasty weather. only in philly.
8:22 am
>> and coming up we're going to have one of the eagles here with us live in stud know. but who could that possibly be? and also a controversial story about fake id's, mistaken identity. >> thanks bruce gordon for bracing the sole blame of the weather on my shoulder. unfortunately, bruce is right, i do have some more bad news. look at that white. that's snow which will make for a very white afternoon here in philadelphia. how much we're expecting and what that change over to rain brings later tonight is all coming up in your weather forecast. >> we're getting a lot of your comments that are coming in. we've got this nice picture. we've got fox 29 weekend, the jam, look at you working out. this one cracks me up. thank you, this is our team. we're up, why aren't you?

christus academy high school here in camden new jersey and this is my public speaking class. >> and you're watching fox 29 weekend! >> thank you we certainly appreciate that. we want to get videos from you, we want to get tweets t facebook comments. we want to get #fox29weekend trending. when you do that, make sure you hash tag them. you can also e-mail your videos. >> we like to see your kids. we like to show off your kids, your school. >> whatever have you. irish dancing, we've got a lot of things that are happening around that. >> i want to see if we can get all the businesses that are up right now. barber shops, beauty salons, diners, and send us pictures.
8:27 am
>> we also want to talk about newcastle. they just got a new horse. it's a clydesdale. >> this is tyson. the problem is there's already a horse named titan. so it's confusing. so what they're looking to do is have children in grades 3 to 8 write an essay giving the horse a new name and explaining why they chose it. the winner will be selected next month and we've got a link to saul the information in the seen on tv section of myfoxphilly.com. >> you know how you have a bad

8:32 am
the snow rolls in and we are looking at a couple of inches bl changing to rain late tonight. there's the snow right now, a lot of white but pink and green. the same system that's been wreak can go -- wreaking havoc. 9 snow line crosses over the philadelphia area. the snow will start even earlier for lancaster county, lehigh valley. by noon, 1:00 the flakes are flying in philadelphia. they continue to push into south jersey through mid afternoon and we'll see the snow all day. warmer air through the south. watch for a brief, icy mix. it will be brief but impactful before we see all rain. that rain does move out pretty quickly on sunday. at first it looked like sunday would be soggy, but now by noon,
8:33 am
rain is gone and sunday looks mild. so we have to get through today which will be to 6 inches of snow in the area where we have winter storm warning, 2 to 4 along 95 where you want to watch for ice later this afternoon. single digit temperatures right now to the teens in philadelphia. 31 today with the afternoon snow. early rain to sunday, 34 sunday, it's beefl and then it's just cold, cold. back to the 20s later on in the week. >> time to go in focus and that guy right there with his own graphic, that's our own photo journal lift bill roar. people are saying go-found-me you find a go that could really use some money what's happening. >> he's had a hard life and he's

using his art to give back to the community. >> let's take a look. >> painting and making art it's in me and it's got to come out. >> reporter: with every stroke he creates. putting paint to canvas is his way of healing. >> night sweats and trauma from my accident, it doesn't go away. it might get better, but it's never going to go away. >> it just happened. >> one single moment. >> life turns on a penny. you never know what's going to happen next. >> reporter: during a bike ride, he was hit. >> i can't really tell you what happened. all i know is i did a dance with a 14-wheeler. >> reporter: david was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors operated. >> i wasn't expected to make et

through the night, but i did. this is a sacred place for me. >> reporter: david says he now suffers from post traumatic stress disorder so he went online where anyone can help him raise money. in return, david will send you his art. a way to say thanks. >> we all matter, what we do is important. >> reporter: david shares his love with his dog noel, a three-legged rescue with her own story. >> she was hit by a car on a dark rainy night. >> reporter: doctors were able to save her life, not her leg. >> she knows when i'm depressed and she'll lick my face and i feel better. >> reporter: he paints to escape, with every color he heals a little more. >> it's like before and after the accident, like two different lives. >> reporter: but for now, he
8:36 am
just keeps painting. >> i love that guy. so he got hit by a car. the dog got hit by a car. and he needs some help, but he's not taking charity, he's also giving back to people that want to donate. >> reporter: he always gives back when he was hit and came back to his house, the community gave him food and paints so he can keep painting he went out and painted a mural for the town. just for doing the story he sent me art to say thanks, too. >> what a really neat guy. there's a link to his story on our website and also the go-fund-me connection. >> if you have any other ideas, use our hashtag #fox29weekend. >> how people are taking wedding gowns and yook them for something else. also taking a look at social media or checking in on some of the things we're getting. i first want to acknowledge, we're always following twitter

>> if you have an old wedding dress, you may want to think about donating it. because there's a wonderful charity that is helping so many families in one of the most difficult times in their lives, when they lose a young baby. there's a group trying to offer help and comfort and support by turning those gowns into what
8:41 am
they call angel gowns. here's how the gown program works. brides donate their dresses, they turn them into custom gowns for final photos and burial services. it's a lot of emotional comfort. we also have local programs in our area, right now dawn timmeney is working on one of these projects called now i lay me down to sleep, and also there's another hannah's heart and love. here's what people are saying. >> obviously an emotional story. got a lot of reaction on our fox 29 facebook page. >> crystal wrote i love this. i wish i had this one when my daughter passed. the year before that my son was zilborn. i had them cremated but would have loved to have had a nice outfit. it's a way to take something so

8:48 am
right down and 20 push-ups. come on. >> one of our viewers tweeted in and wrote is there such a thing as too much cardio. >> there's such a thing as too much of anything. but yes, definitely too much guard yoe. one, it depends on your goals. cardio is going to help your cardiovascular goals, but if your strength training goals or if you're looking to adding million to your body, too much cardio can be detrimental to that. or an overuse injury. they get that runner's high. i tell everybody switch it up and moderation is the key. also a good balance of your weight training as well as your cardio. because you don't want those overuse injuries. >> speaking of overuse injuries, how are those elbows holding up?

>> i'm good. i'm going to be in shape in 21 days. >> i was taking a look on the website and i thought i saw that i had to cut out alcohol, fried food and something else that i loved. do i have do that? >> for 21 days'm asking to limit. that's why i give you 2 to 3 cheat days over the 21-day period. the luls are simple, no freed food, no fast food, no alcohol. the fourth rule is very important. we ask you to drink more water. everybody is to drink half their body weight. it helps flush the toxins out of the body. it also keeps you full so it reduces some of the snacking. >> last question from one of our viewers. is there such a thing as sweating out a cold. >> well, there's no such thing as sweating out a cold. but if your cold is above the neck, if it's a head cold, just
8:50 am
some sneezing, coughing, it is okay to exercise. but if your body is aching below the neck, you want to let your body rest and recover. >> thank you so much. how are your endorphins there? >> i'm good. >> my favorite number one exercise is the burpee. >> am i hearing wrap? >> we really appreciate your time, your tips and all of your advice. >> thanks for having me. any time i can help out, i'm here. until next time, shut up and train. >> i'm not scared of a little workout. this guy challenged me to do
8:51 am
some burpees. he said you can't sweat out a cold. you can sweat out your clothes. >> i'm not doing burpees by the way. but that was impressive. you do a good job. good form. let's start out talking about a messy saturday forecast for you. snow is on the way. if we're not talking about the bitter cold, it's snow. snow or cold. pick your poison. we get both today. snow begins article early afternoon. we're looking at 2 to 4 inches for philly and that whole 95 stretch. a little bit more north and west, a little bit less south and east. he evening hours we see that change from rain from south to north, but that will limit accumulations south of philadelphia and we all see the rain overnight and it clears out by midday sunday. sunday doesn't look half bad. but here's the snow, the leading edge of it moving into central sections of pennsylvania right now. big storm encompanying this south, cold enough obviously for
8:52 am
snow here and that snow will stick quickly. the ground is brutally cold so we're not going to have any problems with that accumulation which should pile up fairly fast. so we are looking for a window between probably early afternoon to early evening, 2 to 4 here in philadelphia. locally maybe more depending when the change over occurs. less for the jersey shore, only about 1 to 2. but where there's a winter storm warning, easily 4 to 6 inches, a little less up in the poconos because you woen see the northern extent of the storm. temperatures right now are in the single digits. it's not as cold as that 2° that we started out in philadelphia. it's 16. wind chills are still 11 below zero in the poconos. feels like 1 below at the atlantic city airport. your seven day forecast afternoon snow, be careful on the roads. overnight we switch to rain and

people? >> no, i'm good. >> can you see the bus out there? >> say hello, fox 29 weekend. >> have a nice weekend. >> a lot of people out here are cold. i'm coming inside. so caitlin can tell us exactly what's going on with the weather. i can tell you it's cold. >> we can see that it's cold. poor bill is out there shivering. bundle up on this day. we've had some events that had to be cancelled because of the temperatures and the snow coming in. they were supposed to have the mummers but they post poened it. with this snow expect travel problems especially when it first arrives. the ground is very cold and that will make that slippery top coat very fast. so you just be careful this afternoon. we are expecting that to change to rain later on. ultimate doppler showing the snow coming in, it's made it as

far east as central pennsylvania, it will be in our area by early afternoon. back west ward, snow for v. virginia, tennessee valley seeing some ice and rain. we've had wintry weather reach as far south as the gulf coast states yesterday where they are still seeing some incredible consequences for the snow and ice. it's a winter weather advisory in the poconos. northern montgomery and northern bucks. this is the area that will see the highest snow accumulations. 95 stretch, south jersey and down into delaware. winter weather advisory for a few inches of accumulating snow before seeing brief ees and then to rain. your timeline, you're fine this morning, go run your errands, if you're got kids games right now, by 12:00, 1:00 the snow starts to move in from west to east. 2 to 4 inches for philadelphia
9:04 am
for early evening. we'll see change from rain from south to north. brief icing is possible and we change to rain overnight. tomorrow morning it's just the wet rain drops that you're dealing with. we look to clear out quickly probably by midday. temperatures right now, not as cold as yesterday. 20 in philadelphia, actually warming up ahead of the snow coming through. teens to 20s and this is much better than yesterday. you can probably feel a difference. your fox cast for today, careful on the roads, tonight we change to rain, the cold punches keep on coming. we'll have that in your seven day forecast ahead. >> we have some birthday wishes right now. >> he's always supporting everything that fongs 29 does. >> a cold day for a birthday. >> i know this because i was

just outside. >> i'm still a little bit chilly. but we're going to find out exactly what's going on out there. sabina is still there trying to figure out how people are preparing for this. i can tell them bundle up but you can tell us a little bit more. what's going on in cherry hill? >> reporter: 27 days until spring, but who's counting? we showed you the shovel situation just a little while ago. there's a ton of salt here, too. you're probably going to need that. you probably got you're shovels earlier this winter but need to stock up on salt. freezing rain and sleet means icy roads and sidewalks. what did you guys wear on your way to work this morning? >> exactly what i just wore outside. not nearly enough. i had on a coat, no gloves, no hat. i got to bundle up. >> we got a perfect example for you right here. hey guys.
9:06 am
i love your jacket. >> thank you. >> what's your name, honey? >> franky. >> that is so cute. >> and this is mom michele. >> and who's this over here? >> rocco. adorable. so they are so bundled up. how are they doing in this weather? >> just trying to keep warm in case we get snowed in. >> it's glad it's tonight and not for the workweek or the school days. >> these guys going stir crazy yet? >> a little bit but we're keeping them busy. >> what did you pick up? >> just some orange juice, nothing exciting. >> pretty stocked up? >> stay warm. so you can see people are stocking up. they already have a ton of stuff but they are getting ready for the snow. >> i love when our weekday people watch us on the weekends. let's look into outer space right now we have a live space
9:07 am
walk that is happening. this is some of the astronauts happening because they are trying to prepare the orbiting laboratory for future arrivals. so we've got our nasa action up there. they are routing cables and doing a lot of work out there. this walk began about 7:45 this morning. >> we're all about social media so we're keeping track of what's trending. and right now a war of words between kanye west and amber rose. he said he had to take 30 showers before he was able to be with kim kardashian. rose called kardashian a home

wrecker. so this is getting a little bit nasty. >> here is something trending, emma watson, upgrading from harry potter to another harry. there are some new rumors that she may be dating prince harry. there are recent reports that say they may have gone out several times. so this is blowing up on twitter. we had someone writing in. she deserves the world. i love it, i love it. crying, yes. i hope, please, need it, yes. >> don't you kind of feel that that has to be a rumor? with two of the more famous people in the world, you would think that somebody would be able to confirm that. >> it's only a matter of time. bill you're a good guy, i did did have some fake id's and president lengths we had to go to.
9:09 am
what is happening with kids today? how are they getting fake id's? >> times have changed since my day but now they're apparently doing it with websites and overseas. we'll look into it a bit more. and also one of the eagles is here to tell you about a bet that he lost and what came about it. we'll talk about all that and more, fox 29 weekend. >> this is your tech byte from the tech tank. so are you looking to save a little money and maybe cut that cable bill. in the past you couldn't because if you wanted to watch live tv, there really was no option. netflix, apple tv, great solutions for on demand. what about those life sporting events? guess what? sling is here. it's a new product for only $20 a month you can watch live tv anywhere on the go. guess what? those sporting packages are there. now, remember though, if you want to stay tuned to stations

had his fake id had it sent to a different dean on campus. it was enough for homeland security to step in. what happened was this student ordered a fake id from overseas from a website. they messed up and sent it to the dean of a local university. >> the dean at the college? >> absolutely. he got it, opened up this package. there was a picture frame and when he turned the frame over there were actually eight fake id's in there and they sent them to the dean of a university. it came from a website over in china. they're saying right now because the students confessed, but because the students confessed, they're saying that they likely won't face any charges. but that's crazy. as you said, things have changed since back in the day. >> looking at those id's, i saw kentucky, wisconsin, one of the carolinas. did you ever have a fake id? >> are you really asking me
9:14 am
that? no. into. there's a rumor that i may have had a fake id. >> what was the state? >> new jersey. >> i had maryland and it got taken from me. >> connecticut, same thing. >> i'm a criminal. >> same thing. it doesn't work. listen to this. >> i'm jeff cole. it's time for fox unfiltered. this is where we respond to your comments and complaints right here on the air. first up, i'm standing here with alex holly. alex, the response to your performance in the good day recreation of up town funk has been incredible. alex, you really nailed it. >> oh, that's so sweet of you to say. i spent all weekend before we started filming it.
9:15 am
everyone on good day, we did a great job. it was so much fun. >> let's look at some of the reaction. >> paul wrote, alex takes her job to another level big moment in her philly career. >> all of you guys were great, but alex brought it. loved it, bruno mars needs to see this. we are not sure if bruno mars saw it, but the good news the guy behind it. >> the producer behind the song. >> he did something about it. >> i love philly. check out the shot for shot rekration of the up town funk video. >> i was so excited it was retweeted out. i have to say thank you to everybody for showing me so much love and the whole good day crew. now when i'm walking down the street they say hey, it's alex mars.
9:16 am
i've been here for about six months now, so i'm really feeling the love. >> up next, a complaint. a viewer watching our 5:00 p.m. news heard this. >> the day of his 2013 murder, kyle and another guy were at a shooting range when they were killed. >> ian just said that chris kyle and another guy were killed. another guy? wow. could you be any more dismissive? you couldn't even mention the man's name? i'm standing here with our senior producer for the 5:00 p.m. news cast. what say you? >> well, antonio you're hundred % right and it is disrespectful to chad little field. chris kyle a lot of the headlines are focused on him because of the book and the recent movie. but when you look at an tone yoi wrote it's a hundred % right and we were in the wrong. thanks for keeping us on our tows. >> i'm honored to be standing here with bill anderson. >> i'm honored. the pleasure is mine to be on
9:17 am
fox unfiltered. unless this means i did something wrong. >> oh, no, just the opposite. our viewers love you. bill, you did a great job. >> you fit in beautifully with the lovely karen and caitlin. you are such a sharp dressing. bill, you are a sharp dresser. do you expect to keep the rest of us on our toes? >> i don't know about all is that. i appreciate that, but i'm trying to be a solid reporter like you. >> one last. great job bill, super tv career launch. welcome. >> so bill, you met mike. >> i have. >> good to see you, old friends. >> i know him from radio days, long time. >> here's a piece of advice with your new television career. stay out of his segments. i know what i'm talking about because i'm in the segment every week. >> or if i see you coming, i'll just say i'm sorry. >> and that's it for fox unfiltered. we take comments and complaints. so keep them coming.
9:18 am
i'm jeff cole. >> and keep your questions and comments coming. >> i'm so excited about this because you may know that i love football players. i have all my sons named for football players. we have an eagles football player who is in our studio right now. has been in the green room, we're bringing him in. he lost a bet and this has a nice twist on this one. he's talking about what he's going to do now because of a bet he lost. >> he lost the bet and he's paying up. constantly shouting out social media and look at this. facebook, thank you facebook for sending us this video. it's a cool video. >> the delaware river with the ice on it. >> they managed to make something that cold actually look beautiful. thank you. it warms me up a little bit. facebook, twitter, all social media keep them coming. #fox29weekend. this is so karen and i can do a
9:19 am
video. i'm a huge pit bull fan. i like it right now. he works outside in the cold. we feel for you. thank you for sending in your music requests. >> you know this mom. you stink at it, you hate to admit it, no one can blow dry their hair like the pros. first of all we have a naughty side, the side she did. and the fancy side. what creates this naughtiness? what are we doing wrong? >> some of the major things that i see with my clients that are doing wrong at home is not sectioning the air. using too big of a round brush, not using a concentrator on the
9:20 am
blow dryer. those are three major things. >> that shum over there is learning how to do it. when you talked about concentrating, you're talking about the doo dad on the end of it. do you really expect us to do this at home? and the smaller brush, why? the larger the brush, the straighter the hair. so if you're looking for volume at the roots or the curl at the ends, the more body or more curl you'll see. >> keep it real. how often can they actually figure it out? >> i would say after three times of me really explaining it to them and going over it with them, they usually get it. >> so it's sort of like how many times do you have to tell your husband to take out the garbage. >> absolutely. this. >> good luck. i'm hoping that all of you people can have something like

(vo) at jennie-o, we heard of a place in iowa where every thursday people ride ten miles for tacos. we thought we'd show up and surprise them with a better kind of taco, made with jennie-o ground turkey, cooked thoroughly to 165. (mom) i'd feed my kids turkey tacos over regular tacos any day. (woman) i think that they're light and they're just fresh tasting.

9:24 am
>> i don't know taking our job. i've been here a week. eagles player emanuel acho is making headlines off the field this season because he's going to prom. he lost an instagram bet and he's here with us. welcome, we appreciate you coming in. >> that's a good dude. tell us what happened. you made a bet, you lost a bet. >> long story short, i was in arizona, my brother place for the cardinals. first week in january hanging out with my brother and i'm on the coach, relaxing as you would do and i check my instagram and i have a direct message and it's either hecklers or people cheering you on wishing you the best. >> women. >> keep it real. this particular message was from
9:25 am
a young lady named hannah and the message reads if i get 2,000 retweets will you go to prom with me and i look at it and i start to ponder and i start thinking 2000 is a little bit feasible so i say if you get 10,000 retweets, you got yourself a deal. an hour goes by she has a thousand. three hours later she's at 10,000 and at that point in time i knew i would be going to a high school prom. >> stuck. >> were you trying to figure out a way to get out of this bet? >> i said when it got to 7,000 for a moment there i thought about reporting the tweet as spam. because as soon as you report it as spam, they instantly pause it, and block it. and by the time i got done with lunch i saw she was at 9,988. i was like let's go and have fun with it. >> now you're going and you're excited about this. it's going to be fun. she gets the whole professional athlete treatment, right?
9:26 am
>> yeah, she does. prior to the actual going, i had to go and accept her invitation. just like any gentleman would do. so yesterday i fly from austin texas where i'm in grad school to northern virginia, expect to surprise her in school. well, the night before i find out that school gets cancelled at 11:00 p.m. i find this out. so we called on the spot, the principal calls the mom, she has the child believing she's going to be meeting with the board of directors to get permission for this. so we're seeing you walk in -- you played it up. you handled that well. that was nicely done. >> after a moment of uncertainty, as soon as i realized that i was going to go through with it, i made sure i
9:27 am
got a custom jersey with her, and i tried to make the story as elaborate as possible to make sure she enjoys herself and the entire experience. >> we're generally all about social media. i'm not sure if we should give out your social media. apparently you accept challenges and bets. >> i do. >> you can put it out there if you want to. >> i try to be relatively entertaining. so i consider myself a pretty good follower. >> that's well done. we'll get you back here to talk some football. we're die hard eagles fans. get you back soon. >> that's good stuff. i like that, and no i don't accept bets. >> i follow him, i love it. is this your first prom? >> yeah, it is. >> come on in. karen loves the eagles so you know she had to ask those questions. he came in and karen shoved me out of the way. we've got pictures to take. >> let's listen to some of your song requests right now. we love us some will smith, can

sometimes, caring for your neighbors means going the extra mile. when our patient, susan, mentioned her dad couldn't make it in to pearle vision to get his eyes checked... we went to him. and we realized, if he had trouble getting new glasses... he probably wasn't the only one. to us, eye care is about living dr. pearles legacy. building a trusting relationship with the person behind the eyes.

directly to the people that i otherwise couldn't necessarily interact with and get answers. we got a big week for two philly sports teams. we're going to talk a little about sports. and of course, our man, johnny marks from 97.5 the fanatic to talk about it. we've got sixers trades, i love this because i don't have to wait on hold to find out what you think about it. >> great to talk to you. welcome to the fox 29 weekend family. you get to interview me now so i'm ready to go. >> i'm having fun. so we've got this big trade. michael carter williams. some thought superstar, some not so much. what's your take on this with the sixers? >> well, i was somewhat surprised. you heard rumblings and there was talk they were looking to trade him for the right package. i thought the right package was going to be a little bit more than what they got. i mean, he's just wheeling and dealing. at some point they have to put a
9:32 am
team on the court that can actually play, but michael carter williams is gone, they still have a lot of draft picks. i think the future in philadelphia is still bright, but when does that future start? we have a bunch of times that aren't very good right now. now that the sixers got pushed back a year or so. it's good to get there but it's going to take time and michael carter williams being traded pushes that back a little bit. >> helping the race to the bottom? does that help guarantee you in that last place position and draft pick? >> it doesn't guarantee it but it certainly helps. i don't know if they made this trade to get worse. but that's definitely part of it. i think the sixers had two wins this year. so this will help you and getting the number one pick is certainly the biggest thing that the sixers want from the season. but as we found out last year, you can have the worst record in
9:33 am
basketball, it doesn't guarantee you getting the top pick. you can still end up with the third pick or the fourth pick or whatever. lose some games, get some players coming around to where they're playing well, some of the younger players, and get another draft pick and it's the only thing you can really look forward to with the sixers, what can you get in the draft. >> what are some the things you're seeing out there? some of the things people saying about this? >> i know there's a picture that was circulating, i don't know if you have this one up there. that says we are all witnesses. either he's the smartest guy in america or he's pretty dumb. i think he knows what he's doing. i think he's a pretty smart guy. my buddy who i went to temple with said i knew it. how about all those kids out there that have the mcw jersey. >> now it's retro.
9:34 am
>> and at modell's you probably get one for $5. fans seem like they're pretty happy about it, but time will tell. >> we'll talk phillies next time. >> got lots of time. >> appreciate talking to you. >> that's johnny marks 97.5 the fanatic. i love this. if you tweet us about this, sports issues, make sure you tag it #fox29weekend. >> it's not just you that hates the winter. we've got so many problems in the country. this is where they have the staten island ferry they can't get through. that's the way a lot of people commute to get from staten island over to lower manhattan. also we have some interesting pictures from north carolina. that's where someone -- would
9:35 am
you look at that? the ice froze on the grill of a jeep cherokee. the pulls away and the ice left behind. -- grille. also another video that's been sent all around. i saw some of your kittens and pictures. we have some red pandas from the cincinnati zoo. they are -- here they are. this is kind of like if you had a panda and a fox and they had a baby, this is what it looks like. look how much fun they are. they're having a great time in the snow. we love these things that people are sharing on their facebook pages. >> a bunch of cats in the house, a panda, everything else. not so much. >> they're cute on video. they're mean. but that's all right, folks. we're keeping you informed with
9:36 am
everything that's going on. it's cold out, we see the flag blowings. not too bad, but that's not indicative of just how cold it is. >> we're going to have a storm today. >> forget the blowing flags, we've got the red flags raised on some snow moving in. let's look at radar, here's what's coming our way. yesterday was the big story about the winter weather in the south. roads are shut down, a lot of ice, that snow pushing to the virginias and into parts of pennsylvania. the snow has made it about as far east as williamsport and harrisburg. by about 1:00 here in philadelphia. showing those purples moving through, flakes start to fly and they start to stick quickly. the ground is cold, it will accumulate fast. even though we've got warmer air ahead of it, temperatures won't be as cold as yesterday. we all start with snow. here's 3:00, snow everywhere.
9:37 am
and even into 5:00, just be careful because we've got the snow that will continue all through the evening. by 6:00, 7:00, you notice pink and green south of us as warmer air finally pushing in to change us over to rain. that indicates some ice right along 95. it will be brief but if you're on the road at the wrong time, that's what you're dealing with. we switch to just rain and overnight it's plain old rain that looks to move out by break for us on sunday. you'll see the showers in the morning and the clouds stick around for the rest of the day. here in philadelphia, we actually see a lot of sunshine for the afternoon, not down the shore. i think you'll just see clouds. so the big impacts today are going to be the snow on the roads, the possible icing and then that change to rain. all day long starting by early afternoon, you're going to be battling these things. it's not a big storm or tons of snow for us but enough to be impactful as i said. adjust 1 to 2 in south jersey and delaware, you guys will
9:38 am
change over to rain faster and where the snow holds in higher elevations. right now temperatures are in the single digits to the teens, it's 20 in philadelphia. your seven day forecast looking at 30 with the snow today. rain moves out, sunshine and 44 tomorrow. that is wonderful. that's also the best day you're going to see in a while because (vo) at jennie-o, we heard of a place in iowa where every thursday people ride ten miles for tacos. we thought we'd show up and surprise them with a better kind of taco, made with jennie-o ground turkey, cooked thoroughly to 165. (mom) i'd feed my kids turkey tacos over regular tacos any day. (woman) i think that they're light and they're just fresh tasting. (vo) it's time for a better taco. (kid) the tacos tonight were pretty much perfect. (vo) make the switch. look for jennie-o ground turkey at a store near you.
9:41 am
she says, bill, i didn't think i'd like the new lineup without lauren because i love my girl power, but you're too cute to hate, bill. she absolutely loves you. kind words from stephanie. >> thank you. i appreciate that. i got a lot of the don't mess with the girl power when i was first coming in. so i appreciate the kind words. thank you very much. look at this. so we've got, we keep up with all the viral videos and the things that are going on. in one of those, a local dog has gone viral, it's all over youtube and we wanted to check it out and bring it to you. this is shelby the german shepherd singing along h.
9:42 am
>> i thought she was howling she didn't like what she was looking at outside. she's going right along to the song. >> that's actually how you get in the car and turn the music up. i'm going to start shooting videos as i drove in the morning. >> just howl just like that. >> i love that the dog is from our area. >> not too far from taylor swift land. >> maybe there's something in the water up there. >> taylor is wonderful. we lover h. >> solomon has a couple of things that he's ripping on, issues with the charter schools, some of the problems with violence, of course, in the city of philadelphia. the nicki minaj drama. he's got a lot to see about it. it's coming up.
9:43 am
>> we had a lot of fun with this yesterday. thank you for all of you that were watching during the good day show. we had a little bit of family feud. this was a little bit of the families from -- we're going to show you the good day version so it's going to be a little bit junky. it was the good day gang versus the fox 29 weekend gang. we're not going to say who won but -- >> yet. >> also. >> but you can guess. >> playing a little bit of music. what are we listening to now? >> lady gaga. >> we don't have it. >> i'm going to sing. >> we've god thousands and thousands of kids that are raising thousand z of dollars. they're happening right now in penn state. a wonderful event. we will show you that.
9:46 am
>> welcome back. weather is going to be a big story today. it looks like snow. you can tell when we get that grayish cloud cover out there. when do we think it's going to be in our neck of the woods? >> if you mean philadelphia, i would say noon. our western suburbs as early as 11:00 a.m. in jersey probably not until about 1:00 to 2:00. that's probably the earliest
9:47 am
you'll see the flakes fly. we've got winter weather advisory out in the poconos. winter storm warning until 6:00 a.m. until sunday. an advisory for ffld, all of south jersey and delaware. dry for now over the next couple of hours. as you're running errands. snow starts 2 to 4 inches for philadelphia, more north and west maybe 4 to 6 in that area. evening we change over to rain but there may be brief icing possible around 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. sunday doesn't look half bad. so plan on it, the afternoon and evening snow going to make travel a little tricky on this saturday. we change to rain through early sunday. 44 and sunshine in the afternoon. can't beat that because then we turn arctic again. very cold, 2 monday.

not as hauch wednesday but back in the deep freeze by late week. >> it's time now to let it rip. are you ready for this? we take a look at the stores our viewers have been sounding off on all week. we share some of the comments and our guest has 30 seconds to react. joining us now is solomon jones. i didn't say it last week, but i used to be the host at wurd. that kind of makes us like second cousins. good morning, how are you? >> good morning. how are you doing? >> i'm great. it's always a pleasure to talk to you. a deadly stabbing here in philadelphia make tg national headlines. two members of nicki minaj's road crew. the two men were in town preparing for an upcoming tour. once she heard about the
9:49 am
stabbing, nicki minaj she took to social media. rest in peace, condolences to your family. it's so sad. and here at fox 29 we received hundreds of comments on our fox 29 facebook page about this story. i do feel bad that these guys came to our city of brotherly love and this happens. prayers for them and their families. i'm so tired of the violence. but clint says military men and woman who die never make the news. it's crazy. when it's a celebrity or someone associated with one, it's all over the news. i mean, it sucks to die, but that's reality in this game called life. wow. okay solomon, let it rip. >> first of all, our condolences go out to everyone who dies. this is personal for me because this is only about a mile from where i live. but it goes to a deeper issue. i think we do live in a celebrity-driven society and we have thousands of people who are
9:50 am
victims of aggravated assaults with all kinds of weapons in philadelphia every single year. we need to deal with the problem of violence in our communities whether or not it touches a slibty. my hope is all the celebrities who commented on this particular assault, this particular death, will use their power in order to make this stop for everyone, not just the people they know. >> it's sad, but if there's a silver lining, we do tend to pay more attention to celebrities. maybe that will help us change our behavior. >> that's what we hope. >> next up, this week the school reform commission voted to approve five new charter schools in philadelphia and not everyone is happy about it. the governor said those new charters will strain the school district's already thin finances. support essay these schools will serve parents and children who have been stuck on waiting lists. social media got to it. people are talking about it on twitter. missy writes, don't even get me started. they need some serious
9:51 am
oversight. and there is he athis comment. five more charter schools, over 1,300 students will now be able to go to school in a safer environment. kudos to the parents who work to see this through. >> you don't know by definition that the charter schools are going to be safer just because they're charter schools. and the other thing, where is the money coming from? the school district guess what is $80 million in the hole for this coming fiscal year. where do we have money to fund new charter schools? this thing stinks to high heaven. you have people offering secret donations, we don't know who they are, we don't know what their agenda is, and we have people from outside philadelphia trying to decide what's best for our children. we need to fix this. >> you know what's sad to me about all of this is we spent a lot of time talking about the money. what's lost in this is where is the best education for young people? >> absolutely. it could be a charter school it
9:52 am
