7:16 am
because the cold air moved in, last night, it is here with us now, we will still be here with us on thursday, so some places are going to get some snow, and where you see the pink is where we will get the sleet and freezing rain inbetween. if you're in south jersey and in amongst delaware, southern delaware, probably only see rainout of this friday event. and now, the latest models are saying that it is an afternoon event so by 7:00 it is spring and it is snowing in philadelphia. at least that's the early call on this storm which should be out of here by 10:00 p.m. so, we will continue to refine this forecast over the next couple every days, get you more accurate timing on it, but it doesn't look good. for the first day of spring, only 33 degrees in philadelphia right now. all of the temperatures to the north are in the 20's, in fact, weaver 29 in millville, new jersey, and wildwood has 34. these temperatures, 15, 20 degrees colder than yesterday at this time. be prepared. you have to be more bundle up than you were yesterday. because our windchills are mostly in the 20's, and teens,

7:33 am
illness. you see something that is at increased numbers from what you would normally see in a community. >> okay. >> so one case sometimes can be an outbreak, if you saw a case of small pox, that would be an outbreak. >> what's whooping cough? i thought it was, you know, that we got rid of it? >> so whooping cough is an infectious disease, spread by coughing, the problem with whopping cough is that when you first have the first symptoms, for the first couple of weeks, you have a cold. and you don't really have significant cough. you may not have anything that anybody would suspect is whopping cough. that's when it is most contagious. then, by the time you go into the cough part of it, you are still contagious, but not quite as contagious, and that's when it becomes a little bit more classic. but, in people who have been immunized, whose immunity may bewaring off little bit, they may have a case of it that might not be classic, and may not be recognizeable. >> here is the thing, i think what it is making it so tricky, starts off as common cold. how do you tell the difference when it is the most con take
7:34 am
us? >> you don't. that's the problem. >> so stay home to play it safe? >> if you have a cold with a cough. they are telling to you stay home. but if you have a cold that you don't have a significant cough, you may still be in school. >> why not just stay home you? have have a cold. >> so we'll keep the world at home. >> that's true. >> that's the problem. this is cold season. we're seeing a lot of people with colds. there is only certain agree of, okay, you can quarantine that far has a cold. >> well, if you are coughing you should stay home, right? >> if you are covering then the recommendation is that you should see your doctor, and you can be tested. >> here is the thing though, when i think whooping cough, i usually thought for younger student, but high schoolers getting it, is that a little different? >> not really. whopping cough has not been irradicated, in the even close to being irradicated. not like small pox again that presumably is irradicate from the our country. and there are reservoirs of whopping cough around. first of all, there are un vaccinated people, okay? there are under vaccinated people. but the other thing about whopping cough is that your i
7:35 am
immunity wears off with time. so even if you got all every your vaccines, you know, within few years every getting your vaccines, your immunity is not at its highest level. we give boosters at age 11 to kids, so presumably teenagers have had their boosters before they get to high school. again, a 16 year old, you got booster at 11, your immunity may not be as good as it can be. >> what's happening then with these five student? they're in high school, they need a booster. >> pertussis, that's the official name? >> yes. >> why do we call it whopping cough? do you have any idea? >> yes. >> do you? >> yes. >> the sounds? >> it is the sound, the classic cough. so when you're in the second stage of this illness, you have coughing, going into coughing spasms, where your cough, cough, cough, cough. you then take deep breath in, because you have been coughing so harled, then you have a whooping sound. so that's classic whooping cough. but again, not everybody has classic whooping cough specially if they've had some vaccine or they've been
7:36 am
vaccinated. their presentation may not be classic. >> can you die from it? >> so the increased risk of dying happens to infants. and that's the big problem with seeing high schoolers with it, is that if there is infants that they're in contact with, they may bring it home to that infant population, that's the population that gets sicker, that's the population that ends up in the hospital. that's the population that dies. >> parent should be paying attention then, it seems like a cold, but play it safe. >> yes. and not to get overanxious us about it. you know, that's the other big thing. >> doctor, thank you. >> thank you. >> okay, you should hang around, because i'm going to make you blush. one airline's new ad campaign making customers blush a little bit. the promotion so risque, we really can't put the whole thing on tv. but we'll describe it. you know, to a
