why stephen a smith wants african americans to vote republican? really. >> plus he was a true eagles legend, chuck been dearic passes away. coming up we remember the life of this icon. i'm anthony monday lose owe and this is your tech bite from the tech tank, apple, the apple watch is now in the wearables market. i have my fit about it, a a little bit less. they're going to start at 349 with the big boy blink blink gold edition going up to 7,000. what is this much what going to do? it's going to track your fit this, your activity it's going to tie into your eye phone via blue tooth and by phi. it's like having a tactic that actually buzzes your hand, but much more sophisticated than the average buds. while this is a cool device it

yesterday. karen was flowing. it's so much fun. we do love that. let's check a check of our weather today. first we have a question. i'm ready. >> fox 29 weekend, can we go out to play today? >> good job, guys. can we leave now? >> thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day, guys, you can go out to play, but don't expect it to be like it was yesterday. 38 grows, itself eat wind that's the big story. that wind starts to increase and makes it start to feel much colder. 38 climbing up to the 40-degree mark by the afternoon, but that will keep the wind chills down, but right now it's just above freezing, in pottstown just below. allentown up to the 38-degree mark. trying to find some 40s out there, just to the south, temperatures have climbed to
8:14 am
right about 40. dover 39-degree, boheas eat wind. this will be about 11:00 in the morning that wind really starts to pick up with a little sunshine. we have it now and that can be gusting 20. you'll feel that today, wind 10 to 20 making it feel a lot colder. greek parade on the been franklin park way. no rain or show. there's a few source up in new york. it will not make it up to our era. the wind does die downs but it's cold tonight, cold tomorrow. there's warmer temperatures in the seven day. i'll have that coming up a little bit later. thank you, dave, we appreciate i. we have a sad update on an absolutely horrific story. we now know the cause of that fire that killed seven children from the same family. investigators believe it wases a malfunctioning hot plate left on the kitchen counter that ignited the flames that raised up the
8:15 am
stares trapping all the children. officials believe the orthodox family do kept the hot plate on which sometimes they do to keep the food warm during the saab on the. >> i called my daughter who has six children and i said don't use your hot plate anymore. in our community to keep things warm in the saab on the people use these hot plates, you can't touch it. don't turn it for the saab on the so they're on for 24, 25 hours. an absolutely tragedy the mother and another girl did make it out in critical condition. they found a smoke detector in the basement, but none on any floor of the first or second. also taking a look you decide 26 getting end way. texas republican senator ted cruise is expecting to announce tomorrow that he is going to run for president.
8:16 am
he is expected to give a speech at liberty university. many if he does announce his candidacy he will be the first official candidate for the 2016 election. speaking about politics, our cover story this morning, espn take iter is creating controversy again. late last year you may remember he got into hot water for comments about domestic violence. this comment encouraging african american to vote republican has social immediate where buzzing every black person in america vote republican. he said that every black person, at least for one election should vote republican. he went onto explain that republicans ignore black voters because they know we won't vote for them and democrats already assume they have the african american vote so they don't respond to us either. social media buzzing.
8:17 am
peaceful revolutionary wrote, what would be those issues that any republican would stand on that would be attractive for the plaque voter implying that there is nothing to vote for. >> he's correct. more black should keep an open mind and not vote the straight ticket without even knowing the politician's stand on issues. too am blacks vote as though it was still 1961. to talk a little bit more about this joining us republican strategist renee a more and political analyst my amex. good morning to both of you. renee let's start with you. on surface i actually agree with his concept. you need to set up a situation where people compete. is it about the vote error about the party to actually compete for the vote? >> we have to compete important the vote, i think that's good pete point, you have to understand, republicans are not bad people. we're not bad people we believe in economic developmentment we believe in healthcare. we believe in helping people.
8:18 am
we even have a republican resource center in south philadelphia here to help folks. so that's what it's about. we're doing better. we're doing the thing with our chairman at the rnc, chairman previous and he started growth for opportunity which is going to help folks. that's why we did did so well in this election year, in 2015. the point that erases is democrats need to stop taking african americans for granted, assume they already have the vote. is there any truth to that that there isn't even a competition anymore. >> it's a strange type of thing when you look at it, steve a smith we know he's known for his bomb bats, what he's propose you take a person who has worked his way up in a company to middle management and then decide to go to a start up to work as a janitorial essentially there's not a lot being offered politically policy wise by the republican party. you have more voters register as
8:19 am
independents so no one takes them for granted. to do that you would revoke a loft the privileges and a lot of the advancement as far as moving along within this one party. stephen a. smith even as he says this acknowledges that he is a registered independence so he embraces that. this question to both of you, if both parties, and we're pretty much acknowledging that, are ignoring one way or the other what has to change because you you want your vote to matter. >> we have to change, that's the bottom line as far as republicans and we're doing that. a lot of our policies do help people of cover, not just african americans, people of color. so my a i have to disagree with you on some of the things you spoke, girlfriend. we're about helping people, we're getting the message out. that is the issue. she girlfriended you, you got to respond. >> i love renee. >> i love you, too. renee is an alternative republican. let's look at it, if we take a policy right here in
8:20 am
pennsylvania, not too long ago that was advanced, voter identification, when independent research looks at that they said people of color along with seniors and students will be disproportionally impacted by this. h was advanced by the republican party. that does not sound like something that you want to embrace. if you're talking about reforming the healthcare law there, the affordable care acts that i'm packing a lot of people of color. >> absolutely and it's not work. it's not working with my a. i'm a healthcare person all my life and the bottom line obamacare is not really helping folks. come on now on this level we're going to have to agree to disagree. let's end on an agree note. we'll tibia to discuss this going forward. i like stephen smith, thank you. >> and we all like you, renee, thank you both for spending sometime with us. tell us what you think. you know we're interactive. you can tweet us, comment on our facebook page, does steve a have
8:21 am
a point. make sure you use the hashtag. we're already getting some comments who that one. we'll get to that one in just a moment. we want to start your sunday morning with some bruno mars in the background. and we're talking about an absolute legend, an all time philadelphia great. basically an every man ship. taking a look back at the life of concrete char lirks the hall of famer for the ages. as we listen to the lazy song let's take at some of the pictures that you're sending in because i did ask for easter pictures and you did deliver. a little girl with the easter bunny. we also have some easter decorations. i love egg trees. so cute. this one, dave war especially filling in for caitlyn today. that's what he has at home. look at how cute they are. evan, lala and asher. thank you for having your sunday morning withw??ççóo?óñçoñçwwññç

workout. i hate to break the news for you all who loved time tea bow. he can't play. he's close to being a stiff. you're wrong about taken oh he's not a stiff. the eagles don't need him to come in and be a great quarterback. you come in, he can work in chip's kelly option. he's run the offense with urban meyer in florida. we don't need time taken owe to come in and be a great quarterback. he is used in the offense for being a great quarterback. there is a reason that time taken owe has not been in the nfl for two years. you can't play. you don't want to use him in goal line situations. that's what you have demarco murray for. think about it last year when nick foles was hurt, mark sanchez was in, if he gets hurt, if your second string quarterback gets hurt, do you want time tea bow, not a chance. think about this marty and then you'll understand a little bit about football and i'm trying to educate you. in his last year with the jets,

eagles fans continue to remember a legend, concrete chuck bandarric passed away yesterday at the age of 89. andrew wrote he was one of the best. rest in peace, charley. >> rich said rest in peace, an eagles great. his maim is still trending right now on twitter so we decided to bring in another legend to talk about this. of course eagles play by play. mural rhys. you certainly know his voice. good morning, sir. >> good morning. for so many people this was the e pit my, this athlete of a philadelphian, but he played before so many people ever saw them. they've only ever saw him on videotape. what made him so special. >> i would have to say of all the eagles throughout the years, if you had to rank him, he would really be number one because here is a guy who played for two, not one, but two world championship teams. he played for the eagles in 1949, just coming out of penn
8:30 am
when they won the world championship. he didn't have super bowls then and he played for the eagles toward the end of his career in 1960 when again they won the world championship and as you know, the eagles have not won an nfl championship next. merrill, at a lot of people talk about the fact, very talented, but he per son phid the hard working philly attitude. is that what people loved. >> that's was part of it. you could sit at the farthest field at franklin field and you could see the tremendous thrust he had. he was a hard hitter. he was a driven player. he was a guy on every single play did everything in his power to make the eagles a winner. in fact, there are certain images that we still have to this day. many of us, even if we haven't
8:31 am
seen chuck been daric play, we know the name and remember the name of him standing over give in new york. he was out of football for 18 months. although i have to say if you look at the footage of that, it was a clean, powerful him. it wasn't helmet to helmet. there was nothing dirty about it. and the other thing that people remember and they've seen it probably countless times on film is chuck been daric's tackle at the very end of that 1960 game when he pinned gym tailor, the packers fullback to the ground and would not let him up until all the seconds had ticked off the clock. >> thank you so much for sharing some of those great moments and recollections and your sunday morning with us. it's a pleasure and an honor to have you on our show this morning. >> thank you very much. > take care and enjoy your sunday. >> okay. > if you are looking now to enjoy yourself as well let's take a look at the weather. the rugged and mainly.
8:32 am
thank you very much. let's go outside and check out these pictures coming in across the area. there's people skying in spring. it happens. we had the snow coming down. temperatures are certainly cold enough where it could make a little more snow. the temperatures down below freezing. for right now the ' just a chill in the air when you step outside. it is 38-degrees. that wind is out of the northwest at 10 miles an hour. wind chills will be a big issue today. they are down to just blow freezing and they will stay there, maybe climbing up a degree or two. even though the temperature will climb above 40 and we are clear. it will be a cold one in when you factor in the wind. you will feel the wind gusting up to 30 miles an hour. over the next few days it will be clear and cold but we want to talk about this warmup. it is dry, temperatures are down below the freezing mark and n a few of the suburbs to the north. it will climb up to the 40-degree mark, 43 in philadelphia. we want to see temperatures
8:33 am
climb above 60-degrees. it's in the seven day forecast. you just have to wait a few days. 41 on monday, 43 on tuesday, not much of a change there, but the wind will die down just a little bit. lows in the morning into the 20s and then we have warmer temperatures coming in on wednesday, thursday warm with rain and that is a lightning bolt there. we could see a rumble of thunder as a front moves through. ahead of that, temperatures are climb into the 6 0ss one day where we see very warm temperatures. after that we're back down below the average, back into the 40s with sunshine and lows into the 20s by next weekend. so enjoy wednesday and thursday if you're looking for that warm weather, it's here. will do. >> there's something we would like you to help us with. there's a little boy, so special, five years old. he's got an immune problem and basically he needs to live in a protective bubble. well, his family, he's holding up those little signs saying wear yellow to support him. this friday he's going to have surgery. we're going to tell you a lot
8:34 am
more about that very special child and how you can help him. the comments already starting to come in on some of the segments we just did, the stephen a smith segment. jeff said he should stick to sports. he's mediocre at at sports, but wants people to vote republican. shoutout to troy, so much i could say about stephen a. smith but it wouldn't be so nice so i'm going to go cook my family breakfast. germane says i love that you have two obviously intelligent women for your political debate. hashtag women power we love that as well. we always enjoy interacting with them. it's refreshing and something you will consistently get. i love the hashtag, women power. we listen to the rolling stones, a little satisfaction. we hope you get some satisfaction on this sunday and keep sending us your pictures and comments, use our hashtag can for, 29 weekend.
8:35 am
it's a that silly time of year when our experts make their choices to pick how far 64 teams will fair against each other. would you believe mathematicians have figured there are 9.2 cotillion ways to fill out the bracket. a depaul university math professor has crunched even more numbers and has determined if you know ncaa basketball you could create a perfect bracketment the odds are 1 in 128 billion. our dr. mike understands why we may want to try for perfection anyway. it's all about control. we as human beings love control because number one it makes us feel better and number two, we really feel like we have a better chance at winning.
8:36 am
that's why filling out brackets for the ncaa makes us think we're going to win something even though the chances of getting a perfect bracket, 1 in 128 billion. better off to play the power ball. so the numbers behind our bracteoley may be a little overwhelming and the quest for the perfect fix is prettyilly
