7:03 am
somewhat as we head in towards the city. delays in the typical spot here on 42 2a live look at valley forge road there, eastbound lanes of 422, bumper to bumper from collegeville on into the king of prussia interchange. i-95, jammo, from the betsy in through girard avenue. the beginning of the morning rush hour. the just watch it right here near betsy ross bridge a new project over the weekend. they have got barrier to come in on the the shoulder here. the it a makes for a tighter squeeze then we're used to traffic lights are out at route 611 anal also house road in warrington bucks county. because of an early morning accident on island avenue both route 11 and route 13 trolleys they are using shuttle buses this morning. the so expect minor delays there. a crash in the neighborhood at longshore and oxford, and south jersey a little bit of the delay along 73 working your way in the mount laurel interchange on 295. travel times on the schuylkill
7:04 am
inbound 20 minutes from conshohocken to center city. look at this put 48 minutes and two jelly doughnuts to make it on i-95 from woodhaven road into downtown. mike and alex, back over to you. lets get back to the problem we have in the northeast again at 7:04. >> thieves there are targeting hondas. >> they are trying to get the air bags. >> that is what they are looking for it turns out they are worth a lot of money, right, steve. >> it seems like it is models, 2012 and up. >> reporter: these things are worth over a thousand bucks. that is why it is sick to hear these people coming out of their house and find out how much money they are out. even with insurance this will be close to $3,000 in some cases police tell us because they damaged the window. sometimes they damage the door. you can see air bag pops right off. it takes 17 seconds according to the detective here to smash the window and grab the air bag. why did they take the air bag? they sell them for as little
7:05 am
as hundred to 200 to a unscrupulous garage which uses them to fix cars like this because air bags go off at the the slightest bump to the front bumper and what happens is they fix them and then they bill the insurance company for the full blast of it like a thousand, $2,000. so the unscrupulous garage makes a huge profit. in this case the alarm went off either on this car or the the other one we will show you. look behind this car. the there is another honda. the car alarm went off but police officer says they have these things that break windows that don't set off alarms and that is how they can get so many of them. back on march 1st people woke up that sunday morning nine different honda's, all but one, 2013, just a mile from here on seven different streets were all hit in the same night. this time we only know of four of them. you will see this street loaded with hondas and only two were hit on this side of the castor. that traffic light on the other side of castor on hartel street and two more hit a couple blocks up. you will see the second one. this was the first own tore
7:06 am
discover that their car had been hit. they have the window taped up. lot the car behind our live truck. that is a hon, greg, slow down. this is a honda civic here. this street is loaded with hondas but they only got two right here, and then on the other side of the castor i counted five more before i got to the the other two that were hit. they could have gotten a waste by 20. even though the alarm went off people didn't see anybody because of that 172nd time limit it takes to hit a couple cars. one of these the alarm didn't go off, or they were both hit and maybe both went off. the this is a rash have of crimes to the point where city leaders had to have a town watch meeting with everybody out here. they went to the meeting. they were warned if you own a honda, watch out. what will you do. you cannot sleep in your car. these people are, at their witt's even like what do we do. >> what you can do is go back to what we used to do and put that big red bar across the the steering wheel and that
7:07 am
would cover the air baggy think. >> reporter: we know they can get around that too if they do that. they have to have town watch active just like they did to catch the tire slashers. we are in northeast philadelphia the people up here all hard working people. they got hit by tire slashers and new hit by this. >> i know some of them put surveillance video on their houses. >> hopefully we can get some clues here. >> police will find those tapes. >> police are also looking for a gunman who shot a man in lawncrest. it happened shortly before 11:30 last night in the 900 block of bridge street. the shooting victim was taken to einstein hospital, the condition unknown. police in bucks county are calling what happened inside a home in holland a murder/suicide. family members became concerned when the husband did not the show up at his jeweler's row store here in philadelphia. as expected, and they were planning to attend a birthday party for his wife.
7:08 am
a search, revealed a woman in her 60's dead and husband on the floor of the the master bedroom. both shot in the head. a handgun was recover. police think it was a murder/suicide. lets get to west philadelphia barber shop there where a customer shoots and kills a gunman who opened fire inside that barber shop. >> jenny has been on this story in west philadelphia all morning. >> reporter: good morning, guys. the 40 year-old man who pulled the trying der later die at the hospital. his identity has not been released. so violent, kay the yot i can moments here at this barber shop on the 600 block of north preston street. it happened yesterday afternoon. apparently a couple of people inside got into a fight about something. the the barber told his client to chill out. and the 40 year-old man pulled out a gun, opened fire, with up to ten people inside. at that very moment a customer with a license to carry pulled out his weapon and shot multiple times and killed the gun man.
7:09 am
>> i heard gunshots. >> what did you do? >> i ducked, and then ran. >> a customer inside the barber shop, legal permit to carry, responded and shot this guy trying to shoot somebody inside. >> they was arguing. it was being taken too far. one of the barbers said chill out. so when i was watching tv in the barber shop i heard gunshots. >> it could have been a lot worse if it wasn't for this guy who responded and basically saved a lot of people in there. >> reporter: so police calling this responding shooter a life saver, however, we did talk to another witness this morning. he didn't wanting to on camera but he says he thinks the man took the situation too far. he claimed he shot the gun man once to get the situation under control but then continued to fire at him, killing him. the customer left the barber shop, he did return himself back into the 16th district and police say they were initially not planning on filing any charges against
7:10 am
him, mike an alex. >> let us know as we continue there. people are talking about the the other story, thank you, about the busting into the hondas. >> one guy said they used to call that thing the club. he said one key fit all of them. >> did you know that. >> maybe that is why people don't use them anymore. >> that would be a real flaw in the club. is ted cruz running for president. >> i would like to think so, if you check his twitter feed. >> yes. >> he announced just after midnight that he is going to run. he is entering the race. >> time for truth just to rise to the challenge just as americans have always done. i believe in america and her people and i believe we can stand up, and we cannery store our promise. it ising to go take a new generation of courageous conservatives, to help make america great again and i'm ready to stand with you to
7:11 am
lead the fight. >> it says it right there i'm running for president. what is the question? i guess he will say tonight person. he will be down in virginia at liberty university where apparently he will make the announcement. >> they want to see him say it. >> and hear. coming up at 7:30 we will look closer at his announcement and ask the most important question can he run? some people talk about the fact that he was born in canada. >> but i think if one of your parents was an american citizen you can run for president even if you were born in canada or anywhere else. i should know that definitively but apparently i didn't listen to that during hisry class. u.s. department of justice is due to release the report today on the the use of deadly force in the philadelphia police department. a press conference will be held at u.s. attorney's office detailing findings as well as a plan for action for reform within the department. commissioner charles ramsey will be in attendance.

a instrument. >> she has been playing for ten years. >> lets get her to do it. she's here in our studio coming up later, certainly before 9:15. >> maybe she can play in the tony danza stream. >> yeah. >> that would be interesting. >> broadway musical. >> that is right. >> yeah, yeah. >> it could work. >> all right. >> here's a song i will sing. >> float on, float on. >> because jen is floating this morning. >> with the floaters. >> hey guys, okay, ville know of, sadly they lost. phillies, not looking good. the eagles, one philadelphia professional sports team floats, right here and they are doing well, we will talk about what this thing is good for, and can you gues

we have snow on friday, cold again yesterday, so spring skiing conditions, still out there at blue mountain and pocono mountains. maybe, they will squeeze one more weekend out of this season because, as you will see in the seven day forecast, it is going to get cold again by the weekend. but friday we ended up in philadelphia with 3.9 inches
7:46 am
of snow. that gives us a seasonal total of 26.9 inches but that is so far this season. it is not out of the question that we will get maybe one more, measurable snowfall, even into the middle of april, it has happened before. so seasonal average 21.8. we are above but not as bad as last winter. lets check temperature. even though the sun has been up a an hour now we still have temperatures in the 20's. 27 degrees in philadelphia a28 dover. lancaster has 22. this is what it feels like outside. we have 16-degree win child in allentown and 19 in the city. make sure you still have that winter coat nearby, 19 is what it feels like in wilmington and down in wildwood. so rain to our south stays to our south. we don't have any rain today or tomorrow or even wednesday. really not until wednesday night the in to thursday, past seven days we have a peak of 68 degrees, last tuesday, will we get back in the 60's after 53 on saturday and 48 on
7:47 am
sunday, yes is the answer. thursday is when we will get to 65 degrees. your trade off some rain. maybe even a thunder storm on thursday. but, that is your trade off because we have bright sunshine today bob kelly, but it is still pretty cold. >> we have bright sunshine. we also have a vehicle fire here on 422, here's a live look at a penndot cameras, eastbound lanes have of route 422 right at route 23, you can see black smoke, car off to the shoulder and only left lane at the moment is get conservative by and we are waiting for fire fighters to arrive. once they do that will cause an even bigger delay on that eastbound side. 202 northbound, jammed up from west chester, heading in to route 401 because of an accident right around the curve there when we get toward construction zone and here is that delay center around that vehicle fire. that is right before valley gorge road.
7:48 am
we are bumper to bumper from collegeville in and expect all lane will be block once though fire fighter arrived to take care of business. the eastbound on the schuylkill expressway we will go for a ride heavy from conshohocken, sun glare and then delays westbound as well from approaching the boulevard out and up the the hill in toward belmont avenue. septa running with delays on the 101 trolley and 11 and 13 trolleys are using shuttle buses with some minor delays as well. mike and alex, back over to you. you know what we need. >> what do you need? i need a chain that i can just float in, maybe some salt water. >> would you float away from everyone. >> you don't move much at all. watch jen, she will do it. jen, where are you. >> i'm in the thing. i'm in the tank. i can totally breathe. there is in lock on it. >> yes. >> we need a club. >> dummy. >> all right. let me out so you you can see
7:49 am
what this is. this is kerry, good morning. we have talked bit the already. one of the most scary parties people think they will get lock in. there is no locks, latches or no suction holding it shut. >> before you get in it looks very small but look at me i'm on my knees. >> lots of room, it is nine by five and in the dark you feel like you are in outer space. >> you bring these in in case you you are afraid of the dark. >> most people turn them off it is a security blanket for people. >> and other thing you say people ask about is cleanliness how do you keep it clean. >> we test the water, every day. we test ph, treat witt hydrogen peroxide. but between each float we have a filtered and sterilizer that runs, so that keeps the the water super clean. it is so dense with salt, that anything that can survive in
7:50 am
there gets wiped out by our filter sterilizer. >> reason why you might do something like this. you come in here for 90 minutes. reason why so you can rest, relax and you say professional athletes are using this and you cannot say they are doing better but they are not doing worse. >> yes, philadelphia union floats with us. they float with us quite frequently. they use this for muscle recovery purposes and concentration. you can really visualize things inside the tank when you are not thinking about your daily life. you came to this because you could not sleep. turf say is there so many up son salt. i am not getting all the way down and get all wet but the the second you get in here you can feel it is very floaty, right. >> you cannot how but float. people float in the dense sea. this is five times more dense than the the dead sea. the it doesn't matter how tall you are, how much you you weigh you have to be made of
7:51 am
granite to not float. >> you rest better when in here because you are not fighting gravity. >> you are not fight ago lot of things. even when you sleep you are responding to stim lie, temperature, your bed is not snuggling you the the way the water will. you are getting the ideal resin side the tank basically processing information like you usually are all the time. >> and people get stressed out, you say it reduces stress. they get creative. there is a book out there with peoples ideas that they once they have been in here they have ideas. creativity like you said people use it for problem solving. >> yeah, the brain activity that happens when you are floating is a highly meditated state ape very creative problem solving stage. we have a lot of artists and musicians that come to float in this type of environment and think about their next project. >> i love it.
7:52 am
mike, this thing is for you. there is no phone and you think it is scary but i keep coming back in here to see it is super high, it is way bigger than an mri or tanning salon. >> he was just saying he could never do that. >> you could. >> i trust that woman. >> when we showed up, right, when we showed up i said how do you get out you just push something out. >> you are supposed ton smarter when you get back to the tv station we will test you. >> i can do press the eye well right now good we will check back right now. >> speaking of water, i saw this video over weekend. they describe it as the world's deepest, swimming pool. now, camille you didn't see video of it. we will fine video and play it
7:53 am
for you. we will move along. a lot of high school seniors are hearing -- what? >> heading, not hearing. >> they are heading to college. >> they are applying to college and wait to get those letters. you have to worry about financial aid. we will tell you now that you found out you are accepted we hope to the school of your choice how do you make those financial aid letters how do you go for most money. we will tell you why a lot of money to waste in this country every year. >> but first a heart breaking loss for the villanova wildcats, villanova comes home after an upset loss to nc state. is coach jay wright to blame? can you blame it on the coach? a lot of people are this morning. is that fair.
7:54 am
7:55 am
7:56 am
hey, how's it going? oh, jennifer and i had the most romantic vacation. really? there were gunshots... explosions... one night we decided to spice things up so we sent an innocent woman to prison for being a witch. you are guilty! then we called it a night because we had an early tee time. with so much to do, stay where the action is. book one of our hotels at colonialwilliamsburg.com. we have to talk about
7:57 am
villanova getting bounced out of the tournament again early this year. johnny marks from 97.59 fanatic is here. >> good morning mike. >> lets go to the east here. wait a second what do i need to do. i didn't hit that. here you go villanova if they could just get past north carolina state louisville is beatable. >> when you looked at that draw you saw either lsu and nc state both good teams. but if you are number one seed you have to win that game. you say it is tough. people blaming jay wright. i hear you. villanova didn't play well. march madness you you don't play well in one game, you are out. >> they didn't play well from the jump. >> you didn't get a feeling watching that game. you kept waiting. thing you say it will happen. >> low score too. what did they beat lafayette by. >> they beat them by 41. >> nc state is a good team. blooming right at the even of the season. perfect time for that school. so, louisville, anybody's game
7:58 am
right there. you look at the michigan state and oklahoma, michigan state what can you say about this team. >> that is why everybody brings up the coach, most analyst said villanova will be number one seed to go out and they were right. how come this tom iz z o dude always seems to go deep. >> they are like villanova, like john calipari has kentucky, when you think about them, they are getting guys that are coming in as freshman and leaving for pros. michigan state had seniors. he has guys on that squad just like villanova does. always traditionally a very good team. >> coach k, here he goes again, coaching k. >> coach k will be in final four. utah is a good team. utah barely made it in and they are here against gone sag. gonzaga will probably beat them. >> good thing about this from a philadelphia fan perspective you see players that might be a 76ers uniform next year.
7:59 am
>> duke, because oakfor , he could be the number one pick. karl anthony towns from kentucky he could be a a pick for sixers. it is cool. >> i like to hear matt cord says oakfor's name for. >> i'm impressed that you know how to use it. >> sort of, don't get ahead of yourself. west virginia is a tough team. >> kentucky can lose a game but you see how big they are. forty-six guys 6 feet 11 and taller. i was watching cincinnati and kentucky. cincinnati only scored 40 some points. whether he they score it was a personal victory it was so tough on get a basket. notre dame had a great game against butler. wichita state you like under dog. >> they beat the my alma matter kansas. i saw that one coming. >> they struggled. >> it was so important but once they lost the big man. >> i think kentucky walks pretty easily to the final four here. >> kentucky takes it all.
8:00 am
>> probably. >> look at you is that supposed to pop up, do something. >> ken. >> yes. >> good to see you did you see chuck bednarik died, first pick in the draft a couple years ago, 1949 but won championshipness philly and concrete charlie, what else can you say. you look at him and right to being 89 year-old he was still toughest guy. >> speaking of number 60, he played all 60 minutes of the football game. >> he did, in 1960 when they won the championship he was only supposed to play center. he had to play linebacker because they lost their starting linebacker. he ended up playing both ways at that age. >> most famous hit. >> knocked him out until two seasons later so difficulties he, he ended up marrying kathy lee gifford.
8:01 am
>> not anymore. >> johnny, good to see you. >> good to see you. >> alex holy. >> yes. >> well, good day to you, it is monday, march 23rd, 2015. >> reporter: if you own a honda and you live in northeast philadelphia, you might want to just start sleeping in your car because honda again for second time this month in multiple numbers are being hit for their air bags. we will tell you the latest victims when we see you next. sue, sad news to report even though weather is looking nice. >> it looks nice but you better not take that winter coat to the cleaners just yet. we have some weather temperatures but cold ones too. we will talk about the roller coaster ride in your weather authority forecast. plus, tony danza is object
8:02 am
good day. he have is taking a quick break on behind stint on brought way to help out a local school. we cannot the wait to see him in studio. >> it looks like he will do it every year. >> man, she has been seen around the world, playing her piccolo through her tears. she seems like a really cool young lady her name is roxanne and she will be playing the piccolo for us, this morning. hi everybody. it is exactly 8:02. >> good morning everybody. >> we will do weather and then traffic. >> sound good. >> that is a plan, sure. >> i like the plan. >> you may not like the numbers in the forecast, we will give you six out of ten because it is more than 10 degrees colder then it is supposed to be on march 23rd. just bundle up, little ones are as well at the bus stop just like buddy. he is wearing those shade because it is very quint. so dress for 20 or teens and
8:03 am
get to a high of 43 degrees, all we can manage even with the sun. wind chills will probably be back in the teens but temperatures will rise a lot higher by, well, before the end of the week. we will tell you when. what do you got, everybody. we have accidents on two suburban roadways. the first of all 202 northbound jammo from west chester all the waste up in to 401. a combination of the accident and a sun glare and the construction, a all heading northbound along 202 this morning as you head in toward the great valley and that route 29 interchange. that vehicle fire, fire fighters pulled up, extinguish the flames but is there only one lane, the left lane, opened, this is eastbound lanes of route 412. we are jammo from royersford all the way into that king of prussia interchange, well over a 45 to 50 minute trip. that is heading eastbound into
8:04 am
that king of prussia interchange with that one lane opened. then for the gang leaving quakertown or lansdale south on the northeast extension an accident right here near mid county that is tying traffic up. is there also delays on the schuylkill westbound from approaching the boulevard out to belmont avenue. a little sun glare coming southbound. and a 15 minute trip into girard. back to you. well, thieves in the northeast seem to have set their sights on hondas. >> we are talking about ones 2012 and up. >> it seems like later models. they are after the the air bags because they are worth about a thousand dollars. steve, have you saw anymore honda's broken in to yet. >> reporter: not yet. that is a good sign. again, back on march 1st when this happened the the first vehicle owner didn't find out that the first car was hit until 8:49 in the morning. i know that is a sunday and most people were off and then going to church maybe. we're wand fairing people are waking up, going out to their
8:05 am
car and finding not as is, like this one was, unfortunately but finding the window shattered and air bag gone. for second night, within 1 mile hand a air bags thieves hit honda's again. nine vehicles an seven street three weeks ago. four vehicles so far just on this one street hartel this time. there may be more as coroners wake up and see what they all saw. a powe did not know hot owner was so they took the report and left it on his front seat right under the dangle wires to his now missing air bag. >> it went through my mind that it is horrible. >> reporter: town watch warned everybody, other than sleeping in your car all night, did you think there is really not much you can do other than just hope you don't get hit.
8:06 am
>> yes. but it makes you concerned, it makes you wonder will you be the next one to get the hit? it is sad, because insurance is already high in the city and now they are having these peoples air bags ripped off. it is like will their rates go up or will they hit me next, i don't know. >> reporter: councilman's office and city hall people were they warning you specifically about hondas or saying all car. >> no, they specifically said how easy it was to hit a honda and just a few minutes into it and then it is gone. >> reporter: saturday into sunday morning march 1st 9 hondas were hit on seven different streets and that is a mile or less from here in northeast fill , all but one, on this street the alarm sounded and turning lights on. they will investigate what scared them away from this honda and one park behind our news truck because i counted
8:07 am
14 honda's just between the two on street and further up on on castor avenue. they thought they hit the gold mine right here on hartel and got scared away by the the police coming just after midnight to the sound of that alarm and somebody coming out and seeing that their air bag was stolen. so what do you tell people. this was even brought up in the town watch, you heard there. even when people know to be on the look out, you got the to sleep. again, it is hard working people of northeast philadelphia do you see the look on edward's face hoist retired and he said i'm on a fix income. he said how bad. he said it will hurt real bad. it the is a thousand bucks the he just got the the drivers within smashed last year. that was 491 bucks plus the labor cost. so he is looking at probably two grand and insurance deductible $500. so, it is awful for these people. that is a lot of money for people who work hard for it no wonder it brought him to
8:08 am
tears. police say a shooting at a west philadelphia bash are shop was a close call, it happened yesterday afternoon at the the barber shop in the 600 block of north preston street. police say a customer and barber began arguing when a customer pulled out a gun and just started firing. the as that was happening another customer with a permit to carry the weapon was entering the the barber shop. >> they were arguing and they were taking it too far. one of the barbers said chill out. so when i was watching tv in the bash are shop, i heard gunshots. >> it could have been worse if it wasn't for this guy who responded and basically saved a lot of people in there. >> forty year-old gunman died at the the hospital. it does not appear that the customer who fired the fatal hot shot will face charges. 8:08. senator ted cruz unofficially or officially it was his official twitter account, kicked off the the 2016 presidential campaign. >> now look at his twitter account. he posted this video and it
8:09 am
says right across the top i want to be president. >> it is a too time. just as americans have always done. i believe in america and her people and i believe we can stand up and restore our promise. it is going to take a new generation of courageous conservative toss help make america great again. i'm ready to stand with you and lead the fight. >> it is interesting, i got a tweet from somebody named rose. she goes why does ted cruz say make america great again, it is great now. that is a poor slogan. what do you think about the slogan. we will hear from him, ted cruz when he is at lint afternoon, of course, town in the stite of ra saying i'm a cap date for president? right out of the horses mouth.
8:10 am
did pope francis perform a miracle. while visiting naples what he called semi miraculous happened. we will tell you about it. but first this is time of the year when many students you are hearing back from those colleges and getting those acceptance letters. how are you paying for it? how to get the most money from the school of your choice up
8:11 am
8:12 am
8:13 am
here's what happened over the the weekend. we had a snow on friday, we had decent temperatures on saturday and another arctic invasion happened yesterday where we had northwesterly wind and they got pretty high yesterday, the wind that is, so very cold temperatures are back and here they are, 28 degrees in philadelphia than though the sun has been up for over an hour, 16 degrees in mount pocono, 24 in wrightstown and lancaster. twenty-six wilmington. twenty-eight wildwood. this is what it feels like outside and this is why you you still need that winter coat. twenty is your wind chill here. feels like 17 in reading. down south it is not that much
8:14 am
better feels like 18 in wildwood but they are counting down nine weeks from today is memorial day, yeah. all right. ultimate doppler shows a storm system to the the south but that sinking further south. that came with that cold front. for us, it is dry and it will be for the next little will while. we have really had our ups and downs over past seven days. friday's high was only 37 with all that snow. some places got seven or 8 inches of snow. fifty-three as it all melted on saturday. forty-eight was the high yesterday but we are not even getting to 48 today. we have 43 for a high today and 45 for tomorrow. so still very chilly until wednesday when we get up to 52 and then warm but stormy, possibly, on thursday. it gets better but it is dry and back to cold temperatures again. it is a middle of a change of season but is that too far away bob kelly nine weeks until memorial day.
8:15 am
>> yeah. >> definitely too far away. it will be here before you necessity it though. 8:15. good morning everybody. live look the at 202 northbound still bumper to bumper west chester to boot route up in the construction zone which is route 401 which, by the way, begins work zone safety awareness week. penndot and the police will be paying special attention crackdown on the the speeds in the work zones. so keep that in mind out there on 202. 422, portions of i-95, all this week paying special attention there and here's a live look at 422, right here near route, fire fighters had only block temporarily. is there what is left with the vehicle off in the shoulder. but with one lane opened it is bumper to bumper to bumper pretty from royersford all the way into king of prussia a well over an hour to make that trip. typically it is about a half an hour. we are double at a time there
8:16 am
heading eastbound in toward king of prussia then a accident southbound on the northeast extension right here near mid county interchange and delays on i-95, 11 miles an hour there southbound from the betsy in through girard. mike and alex, back over to you. 8:16. this time of the year when you heard back from college and get that acceptance letter you are so excited. you have to find the the money. how will you get there. >> exactly. >> dan ri coto how much are we spending on college. >> average public college is over 23 grand room board and tuition. average private school is over 46 ape many are in the mid 60's. a lot of money. look here's the deal, parents and students across the delaware valley and america are getting these letters right now. they are on the kitchen table. they have a lot of anxiety. i put the a couple up on the screen from my daughter, the numbers have been protect to protect innocent there. >> is she thinking about university of san diego. my son went there as well.
8:17 am
>> they want to get 3,000 miles away you and the first lady but here's the deal, everybody gets the same letter because as of 2011, department of ed says two letters have to go to every student. first is cost of attendance. what it cost room, board, tuition plus fees and things like that. secondly the ef the c, the expected family contributions, what are you expect to pay, right. so reason i chose these two letters. they have cost of attendance, it has, what our fees are, in this case university of san diego is 62 grand a year. but then it has, how we will pay for it. >> why don't they just go to temple. >> well this worked out almost cheaper than temple because julia gets academic scholarships. she get catholic education catholic, and the reason difficult this was to give you an example and prove to parents forget sticker price. forget it. we want to look at this
8:18 am
letter, see what they are offering, in many cases, mike and alex a $62,000 a year college turns out to be as cheap as a state school that is why i put that example up there. here's how we will do it. move away anxiety. we will wade through this and make it simple. don't panic. second thing go through that letter in detail. if you have any question or you think college made a mistake give them a call. financial aid officers there are to help you. that is their job. i want to you think like a shopper. we spent more time comparing labels on serial boxes then we do college cost. we are great at shopping here in this country. think like a shopper. is what the the best value. i don't know if we can show it. >> we can. >> julia did this last night. i have three in college as of next year. so at top we will look for aid, grants, scholarships things we don't pay back. that is in that letter we showed on the screen. >> that is a top priority. >> these are things we don't pay back, mike. >> who are we asking for
8:19 am
these. >> in this case aid, grant, scholarships they come from the school, alumni, endowment fund, et cetera. we love these. we don't to have pay them back. then a loan section what kind of loans are out there. now be careful with the loans. we don't want loans size of wyoming so we become servants for the rest of our life. federal loans first. we won't get into the advantages first. >> how do you find them. >> right in that letter that we just showed on the screen. the loans are there. you will go to www dot student loans dot gov, and all of the explanation you can possibly want is right there about the benefits and detriments of each type of loan. finally, work study, do you remember those. >> yes. >> library, gym. >> we had a minority office and i work in there. >> my daughter work in the lab. is there plenty of work study opportunities. take advantage of them. that will help defray some of the cost. >> if you can do this if you
8:20 am
air smart shop. >> there is so much money that goes unused. >> very frustrating. >> just sits there. >> thanks, dan. >> congratulations to your daughter. >> coming up, parents are you worried about your children behind the wheel of your car? a new piece of technology promises to monitor everyone of their driving habits like this, they would know that young man was on his phone. probably, you know, talking on his phone. no, no we cannot have that. but first. >> some places have more reputation for great food than others. new list is out naming best food cities in america. where philly land in the list. >> this is outrageous because we got robbed and jobbed. others. now, americans everywhere are discovering that... spoon after spoon... dish after dish...
8:21 am
time, after time, after time again... deliciously creamy galbani ricotta inspires meals, and moments, that are simply better. mmm, galbani (sfx: kiss). italy's favorite cheese brand. now, america's number one ricotta.
8:22 am
sometimes, caring for your neighbors means going the extra mile. when our patient, susan, mentioned her dad couldn't make it in to pearle vision to get his eyes checked... we went to him. and we realized, if he had trouble getting new glasses... he probably wasn't the only one. to us, eye care is about living dr. pearles legacy. building a trusting relationship with the person behind the eyes. this is genuine eye care, right in your neighborhood. this is pearle vision. on our students is already scoming through, it's alreadyg showing, and they haven't even taken the test yet. my first-grader came home the other day and cried, because he couldn't - he didn't feel like going to karate practice. after he was done with his work, he said, "mom, i'm just tired," and started to cry. in first grade. what are we doing? what are we doing to our kids?
8:23 am
let's get into this best food cities survey that we found. >> travel and leisure they tell which cities are tops for food ease. >> i believe in that magazine i believe i read that quite a
8:24 am
bit. >> philadelphia made a cut but did we come out on top. >> no, we didn't. we should be in the top ten. this stinks. they have number 14. >> what is that about. >> that is not right. >> houston, the number one pick they offer refine tastes and down home cooking. >> what? >> seriously los angeles number nine. >> that is a great food city. >> big apple number ten. >> philadelphia, yep, we came in at number 14. so apparently they told us we have cheese steaks, of course. >> move past that. >> i know. >> it is in the all about the cheese steaks. >> they have great restaurants in this city, are you kidding me. >> i love eating here. >> houston, of course, i haven't been in houston in 30 years. >> it has been a while. >> but i know that is wrong. >> all i remember about houston very humid. >> traffic. >> and gigantic, spread out over a huge amount of pennsylvania space. >> a lot of cities in texas are spread out. >> there is nothing there. >> don't say that.
8:25 am
>> it is a piece of flat ground. >> listen to me from kansas. >> nothing but plains. >> no, they have hills in the northeast. >> tornadoes and things. >> occasionally, all the time. it makes it exciting. >> you have to shake things up there. >> that is real nice. >> hill billy. >> still ahead, a college at lead is beat booted from advertise team after tweeting something offence biff mo'ne davis a 13 year-old girl. he blue it. it is a miracle, well, sort of, pope visits naples and something that he calls miraculous happens. what the pope is calling half posted a hit almost happening.

feels like each day is a game of chance. i wanted to put the odds in my favor. so my doctor told me about botox® an fda-approved treatment that significantly reduces headache days for adults with chronic migraine. 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting 4 hours or more. it's proven to actually prevent headache days. and it's injected by my doctor once every 3 months. the effects of botox® may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms. alert your doctor right away, as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems, or muscle weakness can be a sign of a life-threatening condition. side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection site pain, fatigue and headache. don't take botox® if you have a skin infection. tell your doctor about your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions, and medications, including botulinum toxins, as these may increase the risk of serious side effects. put the odds on your side.
