as you can see minutes ago pope francis wrapped up easter mass in st. peter's case. for believers in the christian fate, today commemorates chris' resurrection. the game is trending on twitter, the big one last night, wisconsin, kentucky, several reasons, some good, some bad. the wild cats were expected to make it all the way, but the wisconsin put a stop to that. the name and drew is all over. the kentucky guard appeared to racial a slur under his breath. just a few hours ago he posted an apology on twitter. first i want to apologize for

welcome back at 8:11 on your sunday morning. this one is remarkable. this lit girl and her dad very lucky to be alive of after a drunk driver crashed into their home while she was sleeping. she is only 8 years old.
8:12 am
she and her father were watching sponge bob in her room before they both fell asleep. they were rudely awakened. there was an 18 year old driver who lost control of his dodge ram and plowed into her bedroom. we were sleeping and then the truck came, the bricks fell down on me. and then i got up and i didn't even notice that i had the scratch on my face. can you imagine how scary, the chances of something like that happen. she was treated at the hospital for some minor injuries. police did arrest that driver for driving under the influence. did you see this. it seems he can't resist embarrassing his kids just a little. his son, dionne jr. took to
8:13 am
twitter to shout out about hood he donuts. if my donuts don't come in a plane white box i don't want them. his father calls him, are you ridiculous. you're a hucks tunnel with a million dollars trust stuff. lollol. kind of funny busting him. listen to this. a philadelphia mother is beyond thankful this easter sunday. nearly two years after a controversial arrest she gets a pardon. sha an allen phased 12 years in jail for taking her pennsylvania legally licensed gun across the bridge into new jersey. new jersey doesn't recognize pennsylvania permits so essentially allen was unknowingly breaking the law and was charged with felony possession of a firearmment it took almost two years, protests and legal struggles, but this week show was pardoned by governor chris time people on
8:14 am
social media are talking about this story. chuck sent out this tweet and said thank you, chris christie for making a logical decision in regards to sha mean allen and not returning her life for a simple mistake. this is from ron. regarding she mean allen, nicely done governor christie, thank you for stepping up to make sure this working woman received justice. she is with us. along with her attorney. >> good morning. > this has gone national. a lot of people are talking about this story. >> it's been almost two years, but that day, you pulled over, you have the gun. you tell the police you have the gun. why did you even tell them it was in the car. i told them because i felt as though -- it's something you're supposed to do. i didn't feel as though it was a threat or i didn't have to, it was something i felt as though it was needed to be told. i didn't feel like i had to hold
8:15 am
this back from them. clearly you didn't think you were anything wrong if you told them. >> they didn't say do you have a firearm in your car. i let them know that. it was something important. since then there's been a lot of struggles. you were facing these charges, how did you feel when you found out, okay, i made this what you call an honest mistake and you're facing 12 years in jail? i was scared. i was very numb. 12 years is a number that i would have never thought that a mistake would get anyone. 1 years, it's crazy. it became kind of a national movement, a national discussion. first of all, why do you you think it became such a national movement and is there a reason that we need to be discussing this on a national level. >> absolutely. this is a national issue. sha mean is a law abiding citizen in the state of pennsylvania. she followed all of the laws. obtained this weapon legally and she was doing what any other mother does, just traveling for
8:16 am
her children and she is now suffered for two years and she faced 12 years in jail and we have to change the laws in this country so no more family goes through what she just went through. michelle mentions that you suffered. i met you at the beginning of this case and we kind of talked about through the process. what has the struggle been like. you've been labeled a felon. so working and others, has it been a struggle. >> i haven't been able to gain employment from being on ppi. even taking my kids to jersey, i haven't been over there since this incident. it's messed me up personally, physically emotionally, i've been staying in the house, just trying to get back to work and now i can do that. trying to help her get on with her life, we want to hear your questions and comments. if you have any information, any job opportunities. >> yes, please. > she's trying to get her life
8:17 am
back together. we wanted to bring this information to you. we always want to hear from you. you can leave your comments on the gun laws on this facebook page, you can tweet us at fox 29 philly, just make sure you use the hashtag fox 29 weekend and thank you both for coming. >> thank you. > coming up, spring allergies, are you sneezing already? they are in full effect for so many people, so what you can do to protect yourself, to allergy proof your house. >> i had it, my allergies are terrible. so let's take a look at the pollen count because today is medium high. tomorrow it goes back up to high and then lower because that's rain coming in by the middle of the week so that will help out the allergies. we'll have a look at your easter sunday forecast and that's spectacular. a quick shout out to my buddy claude. i was walking down the street
8:18 am
yesterday and he said hey, karen we also got this one from kathy baker. happy easter. hey, monte, do you love the bunny, thank you for all your of love. this is my house. i want you to send a picture of your house. my kids are eating candy in bed. the wheels are coming off. what's the scene like at your house, fox 29 weekend april we'll put that on tv. as we head into the break, a little smooth transition, drink your coffee and start to spend sometime with family, fox 29 weekend. it's bud best by george ease a. send us your request, your comments, any information. we'll be back after this.

this week's around the house. bill booth tweeted this question. i hate getting up on ladders. how do ideal with low hanging branches in my yard. low hanging branches are best reached with a two handed lopper, similar to this one. so that when you open with the material you're able to gain the maximum amount of leverage and also require the maximum amount of reach. my pull saw is so significantly different than the others. i mean, we can with a poll pruner, you're able to shear a limb up to a two-inch diameter and saw a limb up to an 8-inch

easter services at the basilica of saint peter and paul, the spiritual home for many of the catholics in our area. christians all around this world are celebrating on this day. of course easter sunday is the day that the celebration is of jesus christ' resurrection. so many are celebrating in church or with their families. all right. we have something right now only in philly. back again this queer. i'm bruce gordon. the philadelphia phillies unvailed some brand new menu items to enjoy at citizens bank park this season. tops on my list is a baseball-themed taste teaser from the way back burgers chain called the triple triple. it's a belt busting nine beef patties with nine slices of american cheese, tomato and let
8:24 am
us -- let us all piled onto a bun. no word if it comes with a free deprescribe later a 17-calories. at the restaurant at least it will set you back nearly 17 bucks. my take, i'm not the healthiest easter around, but do we really need a beef patty forever in incorporate of the ball game? portion con role. kind of ironic really that citizens bank park known for its vegetation options now offers a full head of cattle on a bun. i think it's a strategy by the phillies, put this towering burlinger up against your face and you won't be able to see what's happening down on the field. because that would cause you to lose your appetite.
8:25 am
only in philly. > so bruce, our fight fighting philadelphias haven't even started. the pope's visit is coming in september. plus this philadelphia woman is sitting in jail this morning. she's accused of trying to join isis. do we have a problem locally with home grown terrorism.orçç

8:27 am
8:28 am
> good morning everyone, 8:28, welcome back to fox 29 weekend. and in your news now, a 15 year old is recovering at chop after an atv accident. the crash happened yesterday afternoon at 58th and cobs creek parkway. police say four teams were raising atvs when they believe two of those atvs clipped the tires. that sent the 5 year old over the handlebars and flying into the street. also hundreds gathered yesterday to say goodbye to darby borough mark hutchinson. he was shot and killed with his own service weapon inside his home. his ex girlfriend is charged with that murder. > did you know that six americans have been arrested in just the last three weeks and charged with plotting to join isis. three of them women, two of them from our area. two weeks ago us air force
8:29 am
veteran theresa ray pew was taken into custody. investigators say that 30 year old was in contact with the known isis fighter and when he asked her if she wanted to become a mar tar she allegedly tweeted this. that would be amazing. a girl can only wish. joining us to discuss all of this is the former supervisor of the former fbi terrorism squad. jeff tomlinson. specifically from your former experience with this what are the investigators looking for to try and prevent something from escalating beyond our source when we have home grown terrorists? >> the idea is to constantly be on high alert from the law enforcement intelligence community, kind of a couple parts to this. the first part would be the overseas component which would consist of the central intelligence agency, department of defense, national security
8:30 am
agency, department of state, collecting information for force protection overseas, but then looking back at the united states and offering information that may be important to the department of homeland security or to the fbi and their joint terrorism task forces in an effort to be predictive and proactive versus reactive and then on the heels of that, if the information is shared and acted upon correctly, you see the type of arrests that you've seen over the last few days here in philadelphia and new york a lot of this came down to twitter. we do have a comment from one of our viewers and says, most of the evidence against the philadelphia woman the isis want to be is the tweets she made. how much is he social media looked at -- they base their whole case largely on what she said over twitter apparently. we only know what is in the complaint that was filed and we only know a piece of the case to date. there's other information i'm
8:31 am
sure that supports the arrest that has not been made public yet, but facebook and social media are something that is a concern moving forward for homeland security and the question becomes freedom of this type of communication and then the ability for law enforcement to, within the rule of law, look at the social media to be try and be proactive and predictive as i said earlier. >> we have a facebook comment who comes from kevin, i am truly getting sick of these traders. this is a statistic that certainly surprised me. in the last year and a half we've had 30 americans arrested for trying to join isis or another terrorist group. are we seeing more americans that are getting involved or how are we tracking these people before we're seeing a terrible situation? >> unfortunately i think this is going to grow over the next few years. the idea of social media is it can reach to you as an individual. historically groups that we're looking to recruit had to have
8:32 am
spotters and assessors and people here, boots on the ground so to speak to recruit. now with social media it come to you as an individual and say you have something to offer us, come join us and it can be a wide spectrum of individuals who are interested in drawing to that because of the personal nature of the communication. without revealing any specifics, what's happening here in philadelphia? how many people do we have on our fbi squad or that are looking and try to con vast what's out there and what's happening in area. >> the philadelphia joint terrorism task force is composed of a number of agencies, both intelligence, cia, nsa, et cetera and then local and state law enforcement. pennsylvania state police, new jersey state police, different t components of department of homeland security, immigration custom enforcement, cut tom border protection and then you have your fbi agents and then they're broken down t into areas
8:33 am
of specialty. it's a large contingent of investigators which allows for the sharing of the information from all the agencies and we can exploit the expertise of each of these agencies. so the philadelphia joint terrorism task force is a rather large group of individuals that we can use the resources across the law enforcement spectrum. thank you so much for your time and sharing your sunday morning, especially on this easter. thank you he some much. >> thank you. > it is 8:33. many of you are getting up and trying to head on you the door. you're wonder what do you put on the kids. the sun is out there. it looks beautiful, but first before we get to our dominica davis who is in for caitlyn, get our weather question. oh, my, so cute. yes, we finally turn the page here on winter and we are going to see warmer temperatures. that's going to be the theme for
8:34 am
this he can woo. wait until you see tomorrow's forecast. i want to start with the question, he's asking, don't forget tomorrow is opening day and the forecast is looking spectacular. >> today is a nice day, but i'm going to call tomorrow the best day of the week. it will be 69-degree, so by first pitch at 3:05 we'll have winds out of the southwest. plenty of sunshine and it will certainly feel like baseball weather out there. here's what we're looking at right now. a little bit chill, but not too bad. 46-degrees, that's where we are. winds have died down. yesterday we had a pretty breezy day. we're still looking at light winds. they will pick up this afternoon. so keep that in mind. we'll have a breeze, but the temperatures will be warmer. today will definitely feel a little bit better than yesterday. we will have a few clouds that come into the picture by yesterday afternoon, especially up to the northwest, so parts of the lehigh valley and the
8:35 am
poconos you have clouds and a chance for a light sprinkle to come through and that's associated with a cold front that is going to be moving to the north of us. so your easter sunday forecast is calling for dry conditions really for most of us. 64 degrees that ill with be your high today with those winds increasing as we go through the day. there's a look at seven day forecast and we are talking rain through much of the week. so we will discuss that more coming in just a little bit. karen. in your health news this morning we're fresh out of cold and flu season, but we've got something else to worry about, spring allergies. so if you're itching and sneezing and your snows won't stop running there's help. the fox medical team joins us from atlanta with some tips on how to time your spring allergies. good morning, beth, how are you? >> good morning, bill, i'm doing okay. how are you? >> i'm great. >> no allergies here, but a lot of people are suffering.
8:36 am
are there tips to prevent falling victim to allergies. >> if you have mild allergies i would first place to really start is your local drugstore. there are a lot of over-the-counter medications that aren't expensive that will help turn down some of the symptoms that you have. it depends on what's going on with youment if you've got itchiness, sneezing, runny nose, things like that you may need an antihistamine that helps dampen down the reaction your body is having to the pollen or whatever else is driving you crazy. if you're all congested and stuffed up you may need a decongest decongestant to look for. and then there are medications that have a dual absent histamine and decongest decongestant they usually have a d at the end of them. like zyrtec d or alleg gray d. they're not going to stop your systems, but help make them a little bit better and make the spring allergy season a little
8:37 am
bit better for. i'm big on prevention. can you allergy proof yourself, your house, are there things that you can do other than just medication to try to protect yourself? >> yes, a big thing to pay attention to is on your good day show is what's the -- what is the pollen count right now? that pollen count is really important because that will tell you what the big triggers are and what's high right now and you need to sort of rearrange your life around that if you have severe allergies. when the pollen count is really high you may want to try to curb your workouts outdoors. maybe you work out at the gym or in the evening hours r when the pollen count tends to be a little bit lower. want to wash that pollen out of your hair because you're bringing that inside. protecting your home, that pollen if you're opening the windows to enjoy the breeze can get inside. you want to be regular with the cleaning and the wiping down
8:38 am
with the surface; the vacuuming, make sure you have a help a filter our vacuum. make sure you're running the fan on your ac system 24/7. you need a good quality help a filter on your air condition system. you also need to be changing it out. it's pretty pollen free and dusty right now you're giving me more work, but i'm willing to do that to protect against allergies. we appreciate all the tips. >> thank you for having me. > you have a good one. >> guys, let us know, are you suffering with allergies? do you have any tips? are you implementing any of the suggestions that beth gave us. you can tweet us your comments and of course always reach us at fox 29 philly. > i have a quick correction. here i got seen odel. thank you for joining us. that person that stopped me in the tbt trash tuck. did you hear about this milk
8:39 am
shake sounds so good. short bred milk shake got the thumb's up for the pope's visit. one of our junior reporters checks it out. > thank you joe for sending that one in. we have some wonderful family pics, easter with the grandparents. this is so adorable. and then this one again of the family. thank you for sharing your family and joining ours this morning.

> time now for knocking the king. hey, howard, thinks jonathan. i saw what you had to say about martial customary yet is. >> all the and misinformation on website and twitter is a he can join isis. i shouldn't exclude the talk of radio talk show host, either. it's all about chatter that the eagles are going to get marcus marriott us. nobody today on social media cares if it makes sense. >> people have a right to blog about him. what's the difference if joe show says something on espn and it's the same thing.
8:43 am
you look in the past with robert griffin iii and the redskins traded the entire ship, so it's conceivably that it can happen again for a guy like mario especially for chip kelly coached in college, recruited him and he loves him. jonathan, the redskins went from the sixth pick to the second pick and gave up all those picks. can you imagine what it would take the eagles to go from the 20th pick to what will be the second pick? that's where marcus marriott is is going to be drafted. people can do all what they do on social media, but when the media creates this storm with miss information, that's wrong. you guys on social media can be dopes, but the media has to be right. you understand that, jonathan. keep taking your best shots at me. shoot your video, e-mail to us and i'll talk to you nex

response to the gun laws discussion and interview. these new jersey gun laws are flat outry dick laws. sha mean lost two years of her citizenship or her life. she says she should come work with us us here at fox 29 weekend. rick says the gun laws are crazy i did not become evil when i come from pennsylvania into new jersey. i have a permit and it should be good wherever i go. if you have a comment, continue to send them to us at fox 29 weekend. it looks nice out there, but i'll leave it to the experts. how is it. >> a little bit chilly, you can see that at the airport. no big delays, but we will have a wind factor once again this afternoon. the winds will pick up and we'll see gusts upward of about 20 miles per hour. nothing terrible. i wanted to start with diane, i wanted to include your picture you had with the easter bunny of

you and your family, you unfortunately the got cut off. you are wishing us a happy easter. it is going to be a really nice day, just a little bit chilly. if you are heading out to morning services or just out and about you need a coat or at the veries most, a sweater here. 35-degrees in mount poke no. it's 39 in allentown. we have 46 in philadelphia. temperatures are going to go up pretty fast today. it will be a nice warm day with the winds picking up in the afternoon. we're showing clear skies, right now a couple clouds to the northwest. weir eve starting to see out through lehigh county a little bit of shower activity happening. early this afternoon and early this opening we do have a chance of slight showers through the poconos and the lehigh valley. just keep that in mind. for the rest of us we are going to stay dry. so here's a look at our futurecast as we roll through the days.
8:49 am
the thicker clouds are going to stay to the northwest. notice by about 3:00 we do have a chance for a spot shower up to our northwest. anywhere in the poconos or the lehigh valley, just keep that in kind you may have a shower or two pass you by. for the rest of us it is dry, especially along the shore. if you're out along the jersey shore it's going to be just great. morning services, we're still hovering right around that 50-degree mark and then we're getting to the 60s by lunchtime and then dinnertime temperatures will be in the low 60s. a very mild evening. opening day t tomorrow the best day of the week and then the rain comes in and stays pretty unsettled, very april and showery for the rest of the week guys. this is one of everyone's favorite segments, why, because we have l that evented young reporters, junior reporters from all over the area.

bread cookie ingredients reflect pope francis' symphony. while accepting on our shakes i spoke with digital content manager who wants the city to post milk shake photos and keep the hashtag trending. we're inviting people to come in and take photos of them, purchase the milk shake and take the picture with the pope and share it on social media. her hopes are rooted in bringing people together. also, you know, maybe spend time with your family or your friends enjoying a milk shake. she says this world meaning of families is different from the rest because of interactive and inclusive conversations already happening on social immediate y. it's a way to connect with people. they're not just to send your information out to them, but to hear your stories. to really engage with people. so you got to try it. vanilla short bread. first how was the milk shake.
8:52 am
>> the milk shake was one of the best i ever had. it's really appropriate for the pope because it reflects the pope's simplistic. but the cookie gives it a kick. is it working? are people connecting? >> yes, when i was at the vatican i did a whole documentary seer owes on how the pope is interacting with the use and their perceptions on them. they say he's a pope of the people because his twitter and social interacts on social media. so the hashtag philly is appropriate for him. > thank you. >> we have the best jr. reporters. if you have any suggestions, you can always reach out to us. leave messages on our fox 29 week. make sure you always use the fox 29 weekend. i'm jim with this week silly
