8:16 am
eleanor, let's start with you. it's not surprising that hillary clinton is going to run, but is the country ready for a woman? >> i think so. i think what has happened is they've seen that she has legislative experience, executive experience and now diplomatic experience. she really did a great job on the world stage. yes she had some cries he's, there's no doubt about it. she has reinvented herself and what it shows today is she's doing a whole different strategy doing the thing online rather than doing these big things. because she's not great in these big groups. but when she gets one on one she's chamg, engaging and intelligent. >> it's not a huge surprise, now that she's out there, do you think the attacks come, what's going to happen going forward? >> she has a lot of things looming on her bill, we all know that. i think we're ready for a woman. i would prefer eleanor since

she's a democrat. but the bottom line is she has the investigation of her e-mails, she has the issue about donations, foreign donations to her foundation. she also has people not trusting her right now and declining poll numbers. that's a problem. >> it's interesting because a lot of people talk about the kind of historic nature of a woman running, but is her gender going to be the biggest issue or is her politics going to be her biggest challenge? >> i think at this time it's probably going to be -- i think the gender thing is going to be back burnered a little bit because we've had a minority present now. so i don't think the gender issue is going to come up as much. i think if job bush runs on the republican side, you know, people are beginning to say do we have clinton fatigue and bush fatigue. this country doesn't like dynasties either. so we have to think about will people think she is -- there's too much clinton time.

it looks like we may get into the 70s on monday before the rain gets here on tuesday. >> so this is what i'm going to be doing after the show today, my taxes, and i am dreading it. of course tax day is this week, april 15th. one of the most hated day of the entire year. if you're planning on filing your federal income taxes in just the next couple of days, you're not alone. about a quarter of all returns are mailed in last minute. i want to hit three things that affect a lot of our viewers. let's start with the child car tax credit. let's start with a tweet. $12,000 in child care and got 600 back in her tax credit. nobody better say about having more children. what can we do with our child tax credit?
8:33 am
>> by the way, the biggest point you want to make going into this, here in april right now, we're talking about 2015, we're just filing our returns now for last year, so this is all about to do with this coming year. and when you bring up the child care tax credit, the credit can be anywhere between $600 to $1,050 but really if you're making more than $43,000 a year, it starts going down. so that's what happens that people who are over that income level, the credit gets smaller and smaller. the good news is, no matter how much you make, you can apply and get that credit as well. it will be probably around that $600 level. remember also for that credit, it's a credit so it goes against the taxes that you owe and also you need to have at least $3,000 worth of child care expenses because the credit is just a calculation. it's a percentage. >> home offices, people are
8:34 am
trying to take the credit. what should people be doing there. >> in your situation, if fox 29 says we want you to work from home. it's a requirement for work, then you've got the basis for taking a home office deduction. just two years ago the irs simplified the rules around the home office deduction which really allows you to do a flat calculation. the calculation is pretty easy. you can take up to 300 square feet of your house, multiply it times 5 bucks a square foot. it's a $1500 deduction and boom, that's what your deduction is. if you think your home office is bigger than that and you want to do it based on actual percentages and literally take the percentage and the utilitity bills and all that, you can do that too. a lot of people have a simple home office, just take that simplified calculation it's a lot easier to do. and i know a lot of clients are taking advantage of that. >> that is a great one. how about tax breaks in education? a lot of us are trying to
8:35 am
further our knowledge so we can maybe get a better job. what can we be taking there? >> two big things. this year for example there's the american opportunity tax credit. and that's a $2500 tax credit that you can claim for tuition expenses. not room and board but tuition expenses. have you to be making $90,000 or less and pretty much be on your own, but you can work for that. the best thing about that tax credit is if you have this tuition credit, even if you paid know taxes at all, you can apply for that credit and get at least a thousand bucks for it. that's a good credit to look into. if you have student loans, you want to deduct your interest. about $25 a year you can deduct. deduct that interest because it's really important to make sure that you get all the maximum return you can for your taxes. >> can i claim my education
8:36 am
expenses like textbooks if my studies are not related to my employment now? >> you absolutely can. i don't want to speak for her specifically, but the answer is yeah. this applies towards that tuition credit that i talked about before, the american opportunity tax credit. if you're paying tuition and if you want to include in that also textbooks as well, you can do that too and apply for that credit. she may be able to take advantage of that. >> thank you so much. i really appreciate it. we all could use some extra advice in ways to find more money. thank you. coming up next, what's ahead, bill? >> people tired of cleaning up after their dog. those accidents may be annoying but there's some things you can do to make sure fido takes care of his business outside. that's coming up next.
