tonight. so future rainfall totals we are down to an inch in dover, inch and a half in wildwood and maybe a tenth of an inch is all we will get in philadelphia but it is just drippy all day. temperatures in the 50's to the north of us. 63 degrees in the the city. sixty in wilmington. the those are current temperatures. we will not get much warmer than that throughout the day. 65 degrees should be our high. backup to 70 tomorrow. mid 60's gannon thursday. two, 90's wednesday and thursday. by the time we get the to sunday for dash and organ tissue awareness we should be dry once that rain moves through on friday. so that is your weather authority forecast, it is 7:46. bob kelly will rest his voice. we will look live at the schuylkill expressway, it is eastbound schuylkill right at girard avenue. a car fire. the fire fighters you can see them on the scene. it looks like they have extinguished the fire for now but it is causing a huge backup, again, this is eastbound schuylkill
7:48 am
expressway, right here near girard. so avoid the schuylkill at all costs, your alternate is kelly drive or take martin luther king drive avoid that all together while they continue to deal with that car fire on the schuylkill. in new jersian accident on route 55 northbound but with the rain everybody has slow go this morning, everybody deals with adversity but what matters is how you push through it a and that makes the difference. >> okay this called company be my best story of the day. the quincy has caught up with a drunk man who has inspired a special project, hi, q. >> hey, ten i has been through a lot, a lot of adversity in his life, to make his dreams come true. basketball is a ticket to a better life. tony, a stand out basketball player who attended south philadelphia newman goretti high school. he had dreams.
7:49 am
>> my senior year, i won the the state championship. you know, we capped off a great season. >> okay. you were what player of the year. >> i was player of the year. >> were you on top of the world. >> tight family which included his mother and older brother supported him as he attended and played college basketball powerhouse wake forest university in north carolina. >> i had a great two years. in the summertime chris paul and they would come play pick up games. great opportunity to pick up pointers from those types of guys. >> reporter: in the summer after his solve mere year tony decided to transer from from wake forest to villanova because his mother's life began to deteriorate. >> that summer in, june, june 1, my brother got killed, wrong place, wrong time, innocent bystander. so, that happened going to my junior year. nine months later my mom dies
7:50 am
in her sleep of a heart attack. those are two major blows throughout my time in villanova. >> reporter: villanova's head coach jay wright was amazed at tony's mental crushness. >> he was crushed when his mom passed. watching him at the funeral and his mom speak and his talk about about his mom and life at the funeral was amazing. we were all, we were in awe of him coming out of the funeral. >> reporter: during the the tough time in his life tony relied on the lessons his family taught him. >> that no matter what happens in life you can never quit. for me, quitting was like me quitting on them. >> present this day forward, shot a, 030. >> reporter: tony graduated from villanova university with a degree in communications, and discovered another packs outside of basketball, filming. >> it allows me to express my feelings of pain and different experiences going up.
7:51 am
>> tony performed a production company, with friend from villanova. they have produced sports document tries. >> we just want to produce fantastic content. that is our goal, as a production company. >> reporter: tony, listen for people out there watching. you have been through ups, downs, in your life. somebody going through stuff out there right now. what is your message to them. >> my message is to realize, tough times don't last, tough people do. no math ther what you go through in life you have have to have a positive attitude. it is all about how you respond. we all go through different things in life but when you get through difficult things it is all about what type of character you have and demonstrate and are you an inspiration of the people that is watching. >> chenaught, how is that could going. >> we are in the process of pro seizing our next episode, which is going out in the next
7:52 am
few weeks. we need everybody in the philadelphia area to tune in. >> today is your about on the daze, happy birthday. you are what, 29. >> no, i'm not that in the loop. >> i just turn 24. >> twenty-four. >> happy birthday. >> are you still playing basketball. >> yeah, if you ever want to get one on one game. >> i don't think you want that work. >> you what are about 5 feet eight. >> i'm 6-foot. >> i commend you on just fighting through adversity. >> thank you, man. >> back to you in the studio. >> inspiring. >> happy birthday to you. >> yeah, happy birth the day. >> yes, at 24. >> that is something. >> could doctors be close to performing a head transplant. >> excuse me a head transplant. a 30 year-old russian man volunteered for the first human head transplant, we will bring in doctor mike to explain how this would work. >> that would be your last thing thaw did was donating

7:54 am
7:55 am
7:56 am
this is maybe one of the more shocking holt stories that doctor mike has ever covered for us. >> it really is. medical news today reported that an italian surgeon would announce plans to conduct the world's first human head transplant in the next two years. thirty year-old russian man is set to be the the first person to undergo the procedure. >> a head transplant. no researchers have questioned the feasibility of the head
7:57 am
transplant. the first human procedure, it is just a little close tore reality. doctor mike, what are we even talking about here. >> well, someone will to have die. >> well, no, no, in one will die. >> no. >> where do you get a a head. >> the head is the guy, he is not going to dianne the person that is donating the body, just like everything else, according this surgeon in italy, they will do a head transplant. now, the problems with this are probably so amazing that going to the moon is a lot easier. i mean, you think about it, we can look at it, the big problem is going to be connecting the spinal cord. so his philosophy is that, well, if you connect a spinal cord, the spinal cord fusion and use the right type of tools and entity toys allow
7:58 am
regrowth, then you will somehow be able to connect the brain to the body. >> wait a minute. >> slow down. >> we are taking it a head i was assuming you are taking a head and putting it on another person. >> how can they both ab live. >> hoist the dead person. >> the dead person is the body. >> the the head is the the guy that ace alive. >> let's say. >> i need a head. >> you're sick. >> and i'm dying, so i die you take my head off. >> no i put her body and put it on her which would be a very sad day but bottom line is what would you do if you are dying. >> right. >> but you my head is still good. >> we would take her body and put it on you if you are dying good you would get a completely different head. >> i wouldn't use his body. >> how is that possible. >> i'm in the the sure this is going to happen in the next one years. i think that the amounts of problems, associated with they're dramatic, not only to
7:59 am
mention the ethics of it. but i'm just talking logistics, it is a big deal. the vessels and nerves and muscles. >> the spinal cord. >> the spinal cord is the big problem. you are taking the main ability to control that body and trying to reconnect. >> well, he has got a motor newer on disorder and unable to move and he is going to die eventually if something isn't done. so a cadaver body someone in the car accident that got killed, the body is in tack, they will take that body and connect to it his head what if they put my head on your bod i would she then be crazy. >> would i act mike. >> it would be his brain in a new body, how do you like that for bizzarre. >> wouldn't it be more like a personality. >> we're not even there yet.
8:00 am
this is from the bizzarre file to quote my friend at wmmr. this is tails from the crypt you know what i mean but it is possible and i think it will happen. >> you think it is possible. >> i think some day it will happen. >> okay. >> if you can have anybody's head, get on twitter, facebook or instagram if you could have anybody head put on your body who would it be. >> halle berry. >> you want her head on your body. >> i would have her head or her body. >> would i too. >> my goodness. >> see you. >> alex holley. straight up, it is tuesday, april 14th, day before tax day, 2015. >> reporter: thirteen hours after the second of two bad hit and runs in philadelphia, we have good news from police here. that lit 28 year-old boy who they wouldn't think survive the night, has and he is still
8:01 am
fighting and police are still looking for both cars. sue, the weather is not as bad last night as it is right the now. you can see puddles forming at police headquarters with this rain. >> yes, the rain has arrived. it is rolling through the the area right now. we don't have a ten any longer and we don't expect to see sunshine today, but find out when the rain will roll out of here in your weather authority forecast, coming up, lauren. >> philly girl pink, he was body shame, as she was firing back at twitter belief. the picture that led to so much backlash and how moms are stepping up to support the singer, alex. >> well, first pitch fail, he is star the on the grid iron but not so much on the mound. why tom brady just should stick to football. >> i told everybody there are three things you don't do, you don't sing the national anthem, you don't take name pictures of yourself and you don't throw out the the first pitch. >> i have some breaking news for you, thursday evening, alex holley for some reason
8:02 am
has ignored my add rise and she will throw out the the first pitch at the blue rocks game. >> yes, because when do i ever take mike's advice. >> you are throwing out the first pitch with your little body from the mound. >> i have a little body but i have a strong arm. >> yeah. >> we will have a camera there, for sure. >> mike said he will come and watch. >> yes, i will see this. >> if tom brady can't do it... >> in the meantime we will head over to weather and traffic. bob kelly is resting his voice. al-zawahiri goes, allergies, allergies, a mess out there. at least it was yesterday. today the rain will help i with your allergies. it is only a six out of ten though and bus stop buddy is waterproof, thanks to the umbrella and, of course, the the rain coat. the here's where the rain is, just about every where in our viewing area we have seen or your seeing a little bit of rain, mostly pretty much on the light side, just enough to be annoying. southeasterly wind at 8 miles
8:03 am
an hour. it is 63 degrees with 84 percent relative humidity. here's the the planner, plan on showers on and off and cloudy skies, when it is in the raining. 65 degrees your high temperature for today. so a at three minutes after 8:00 o'clock, time to check traffic. our big problem this morning is on the schuykill expressway, eastbound on the schuykill expressway right at girard avenue police and the fire fighters are still dealing with a car fire so what we're looking at right now is our one camera where we still see flashing lights where the the car fire is, eastbound going into the city, schuylkill expressway near girard avenue but backup goes probably for a couple of miles. here's one look at the backup, try to a avoid the school schuylkill by taking kelly drive or martin luther king drive and all of the roadways are wet this morning so that will be slowing you down, guys? >> hey, guys can you see what is going on outside?
8:04 am
you don't have to go that far, do you? our four heroes have have pulled up. it is so great. the the philadelphia police department. they have an honor guard unit. well, they are out there. we have four medal of honor recipientness our studio today. the the police department has, given them aes cord here. >> philadelphia police honor guard. >> this is great. is there a big ceremony tonight, we will tell you where it is, one of these men was at iwa jima, the the last medal of honor winner that has survived. >> we are waiting for their stories, amazing stories that they will have. >> meet them in a second. they are getting out of the van. 8:04. man, we have haded a bad night. two hit and runs in philadelphia overnight in one case a four year-old was
8:05 am
killed and in the other mother and young child was critically injured. lets get to steve keeley with an update with how they are doing this morning, steve. >> reporter: hard to find any good news in this story but we have. we have got an update from the accident investigation division and no news goodies news this this case because police told us last night don't be surprised if you have two little will boys dead by the time do you your first live shot at 4:00 a.m. we just got good news that this little boy is still fighting at children's hospital and you know what, him and his mother didn't have to wait for an ambulance because a witness on the scene. this is the kind of citizen you want. this is kind of person you want around you if something bad happens this guy put them both in the car and rushed them to episcopal hospital. they are both now at other hospitals but that person saved these peoples lives for hure because they got quick, instant help because of that person doing that. this little two-year old boy was in the car seat the mother was carrying across the the street and then that probably helped save his life. >> just critical, and, again, they looked at him and still
8:06 am
fighting. police still fight to go catch both of these drivers, because they both took off. two daylight hit and runs right after din are time but 6:30 and 7:00 p.m., 30 minutes, 10 miles apart, two a and four years old, two side streets. so speed limit is just 25, and neither vehicle was seen speeding or driving erratically but they were both seen on surveillance camera. here's the other update we got from 30 lease. we have a still shot just before the accident is 2011 to 2014 year ford black suv, the model is a ford edge. likely has front end damage. you can see the boy's turtle he was carrying just before he was hit and killed lying in the street. the other car they think and the second accident that hit the 29 year-old and 19 year-old mom, a white nissan maxima, four door, one of those clear square sun roofs on the top. >> we have a four year-old in
8:07 am
southwest philadelphia that was struck by a vehicle that left the scene and that four year-old died. then within a half an hour this 19 year-old mother and her two-year old boy were struck by a vehicle that also, left the scene. so these are two hit and run auto accidents. >> auto accidents are just that they are accidents but when, somebody, decides to leave the scene, and they will not be on location an render assistance, and, a crime. >> there was evidence, and, there appears to be a broken taillight possibly from the left front headlight of the vehicle. so, accident investigation, on location, processing the crime scene. >> what is not on the front of the vehicles here in pennsylvania are license plates. surveillance cameras are taken as cars are coming at the cameras. the detectives out now trying to get a rear shot from another surveillance camera in both cases. they are out in the the rain looking for homeowners or business owners, anywhere near these scenes. they will look at the path these cars took beforehand and
8:08 am
afterward and trying to get those license plates to track down both vehicles. both with front end damage for sure and pennsylvania is within of the 16 states without a front plate. look for that to change because bee keep hatching on it day after day because so many stories of front surveillance shots like the kidnapping last week in that van that they finally found in out carolina that they would have found faster, and, and, and the the cops now and they peck to have a news conference to show us new better clear surveillance if they don't have these two cars by late morning. >> yeah, that plate thing will change for sure. 8:08. today marks within year since kidnapping of 300 school girls in nigeria. >> it has been a year. >> today has renewal calls from human rights act vice from around the world who want more to be done to find all of these girls after 365 days. and that mass abduction. there they are. 276 girls were taken from a school in northeast nigeria by
8:09 am
boca horam. some of the girls escaped but 219 still remain missing. so yesterday demonstrators took to the streets of the nigeria calling for renewed focus on this tragedy. you might remember this slogan bring back our girls. now activist are saying never to be forgotten. nigeria's newly elect president said he would do everything he can in his power to bring these girls back but he cannot promise they will be found. >> that sums it up, so many people were a part of that campaign to bring back our girls. even the first lady tweeted a photo, and now one year later, 219 still miss willing. >> ab oxes are still happening by boca hard rahm. >> the the news is always changing here on tv news. >> yes. >> sometimes even experienced and season reporters they are surprised when they capture an event live on tv. when it comes to have tv you
8:10 am
never know what will happen. >> watch this interview, boom. >> waiting for this, to show... >> watch yourself. >> head up, head up, head up, head up. >> it came so close to the fire fighter. >> crews covering a electrical fire in buffalo, new york when a manhole suddenly exploded during a live interview. it went up in the air. they were saying heads up. two buildings were evacuated. they had to cut off power to the area so fires could be contained without any other incidents. >> everybody was fine though. you know him, love him, kevin james is on. that movie paul blart. it made a lot of money there is mall cop two that will be out and kevin is with us. >> but first, a gathering of heroes in our studio. we have four medal of honor recipient is here in the next few moments. you have to hear their back ground and what they have done for our country up next.

8:16 am
thornton ran through heavy fire to rescue him. he then, carried the unconscious officer into the the the water and bee again swimming out to sea. while swimming he came a across another injured man and saved both men at the same time swimming for two hours. next up, colonel harvey barnam was awarded for his actions on december 18th, 1965 when the company was pinned down by a hail oven my fighter. he made a hazardous reconnaissance of the area seeking target for his own artillery, with complete disregard for his own safety that man right there, tried to save a dying commander and then immediately a assumed command of the rifle company moving up once in the middle of the heavy fire to rally and give encouragement to all units. >> and brian miles stacker is a former u.s. army officer and received medal of honor for his actions in the the vietnam war. march 31st, 1971 his base was
8:17 am
a attacked by north vietnamese. he assisted defense of the base and when evacuation became necessary he stayed behind to cover, the the retreat, trapped behind enemy lines, he was able to evade capture until being rescued by friendly forces, eight days later. it is an honor to have you in our studio. >> thank you, mike, pleasure to be here. >> we will do it again tonight. >> absolutely. >> honoring the heroes, over at irish pub. that is on walnut street right. >> yes. >> right around 12th. >> twentieth. >> oh that irish pub. there are a couple that i frequent. >> yes. >> please come out what does it mean for to you come out and say hello to you. >> thinks great. this is our sixth annual. we started six years ago just by myself out here. we brought barney, brian and our good friend, john which we buried last year. it is just a great, great

8:20 am
about. some of us, it is a humbling experience to put it on but i think as we put it on, the four of us think about those who served with us. it is a reminder. it is a reminder of the past but it makes us keep going for the future. >> every medal award winner said the same thing. they don't talk about themselves. they talk about the men that they were helping. >> i don't think any of us feel we deserve the medal. the we are doing what they would have done for us, as we say, the the guys to the left, right and the guys in front of us. tommy in the vietnamese war, would have done the same for me. it is like woody always say, freedom is in the free. this is something. he is our senior member here. he has been around a lot more years. we list toned what he has to say. but as barney and brian said, this is an honor, that we work for everybody else, we don't work for ourselves.
8:21 am
>> do you get tired of being called the senior. >> i would rather be called that, than dead. caretaker. >> i really feel like i'm just the caretaker of the medal. it really belongs to those guys. >> you don't feel like a hero. >> no, i don't. >> well, if they call me that but i really do not feel that way because when somebody gives their life so you can serve i've, you do become the the caretaker and this medal, i wouldn't have have had it were it not for those willing to sack files and others who were willing to testify as to what went on. they didn't come to ask me what i did, that would have been a bad idea.
8:22 am
>> yeah. >> it is a story, i never board telling. >> you are starting to scare me. >> great to meet you all. >> let me add one thing. >> for me as a marine and woody this is a special night for us. we lost some marine, in the special operations command in the helicopter crash just recently, and they left ten children. marine core and law enforcement found days does things like tonight to raise the funds for the educations of the children because we owe that to the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice, doing our country. >> please come out to this event tonight. >> like barney was saying, this is what it is all about it is in the about us, it is about the marine core law enforcement foundation and what they do for all of the families and unless you see a
