7:06 am
here, he says, this accident would not have occurred. well, why wasn't it installed here? that's what congressman braidly be asking. and it is the question of the day, yesterday, and it is the question of a lifetime for so many people, whose lives were changed forever, by this accident. they're moving fast, working around the clock, to clear the tracks, and then fix the tracks and wires, because one of the shots that we saw, which was surprising, new stretches and strips of steel railroad track being brought here already this morning. second shot we saw, to show how quick the work was going, just like you're talking about live. when you see the passenger carload in on the flatbed, we saw previous passenger car, already on flatbed, already on the road, and on the way to wilmington, where it will be part of this investigation. and you can see, it is covered in plastic, just look the one you guys just showed. now, we go to video, that the federal agency shot and released, close up video, our first close up pictures, you can see, that one passenger

7:28 am
jim kenney. he'll be a mayor for all of philadelphia. i'm lynne abraham. when i became philadelphia's da, child victims had to face a judge ...a jury...the public... and testify eye to eye with their attackers. it wasn't right. so i got a constitutional amendment passed allowing children to testify remotely. i'm running for mayor for the same reason -- our children should come first. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters.

7:32 am
market frankford line. options also driving to the local stations, at fox chase, or west trenton, just keep in mind, those parking lot can only handle so many cars. as far as the trip to and from new york, no amtrak service. however, new jersey transit trains, running, between trenton and new york city, getting there and back, you can use the river line, and the patco high-speed line. couple of tips, extra time around the board today, carpooling, consider the parking spots, where you're going to park the car, new jersey transit cross honoring south of the i195 corridor. then big roadway, that's extra jammed this morning, 95, already, parking lot, from woodhaven all the way into girard avenue, another parking lot, the bring bridge already stack up from the camden side, into center city, at eighth and vine. again, whatever mode of transportation you pick today, give yourself some extra time. even, if you don't use mass transit, typically, you drive all that extra volume will be alongside of you, as i just

showed you on the brennan on i95. local detours here in the neighborhood, fire location, at broad and sus question hand a mike, alex, back to you. >> ironically see what they did on capitol hill, already scheduled before this amtrak derailment here in philadelphia. they had to vote on budget, for amtrak, itself. so, a gop bill, that was approved, just hours after the derailment, cut amtrak's budget by $250 million. for the upcoming fiscal year. >> down to about 1.3 billion. >> yes there is comes as national transportation safety board said the train, 18, was not equipped with proper speed control device. >> amtrak throughout a good pit of the northeastern corridor, has a system called advanced civil speed enforcement. that's called acse. however, it is not installed
7:34 am
for this area where the accident occurred where the derailment occurred. we've called for positive train control for many, many years, on our most wanted list, congress has mandated that it be installed, by the end of this year. >> so, by the end -- so in other words, it is a machine that would automatic slow down a train, if something happened to the engineer. >> the person driving it, yes. >> but here is the thing though, very complex technology. and it is estimate philadelphia would cost a lot of railroad operators about $10 million. >> 10 billion. >> 10 billion, sore. >> i to dot whole country. >> yes. >> so that curve in port richmond's been there for decades. but they didn't have the money to take care of. so what do you think about that, steve keelie? is that a topics of conversation out there? >> well, it has been topic of conversation since this accident. and it was a topic of conversation as you heard in that news conference, and the question is, if any stretch of amtrak deserves the latest
7:35 am
technology, it is this one, because this is the only thing popping up amtrak, and the only profitable part. and i don't care how much money you mention, what is the price after human life? >> i know it. >> ask the kids, the 11 year other gill, 16 year olson of jim janes from plainsboro, new jersey, is his father's life worth $10 billion? and that's the question. of course worth $10 billion. worth $50 billion. and all of those lives could have been saved. and that's sad that federal red tape, bureaucracy, plane old stupidity doesn't have it on the stretch specially at a curve where we have seen deadly accident before. and i don't care how long ago it was, we've had rail traffic in this country since the 1800s. and you would think 200 years later, we would learn thousand do it safely. >> like we said yesterday, 1943, on this very same stretch, the same curve, 79 people died. 117 people were injured. when a 16 car train derailed.

>> even with this. go ahead, steve? >> our friend at whyy news works, the excellent journalist over there, they've got it already new brunswick line down to trenton, from perry ville maryland up to wilmington. those are not as popular stretches as this one is. so, it is in new jersey, it is in delaware, but not here through philadelphia, through, you know what? this is a residential neighborhood it runs through, too. you would think with the population around the tracks in addition to the population riding the trains every day back and for, to mower's favorite cities, washington to new york, most of the city, most of the tax dollars, especially since bringing in most profitable dollars to amtrak. >> and it has to be the most
