coming up a bit later. we're following breaking news this morning, as you can see there was a raging fire overnight in conshohocken. it destroyed a building. the fire crew was there. they're continuing to investigate and our own sabina car coast is on the scene. it looks like things are under control, but what can you tell us about this? >>reporter: i just got an update a few seconds ago and firefighters tell me they do not have this fire under control. take a look behind me. you can see smoke bellowing from this building. this is a three-alarm fire. it started just before 3:30 this morning. more than three hours later the fire still not under control. take a look the at some video that we shot for you early this morning as the flames were busting from this building. this is the american flooring and blinds building here along caldwell lane in conshohocken. firefighters reported multiple explosions happening at the scene when they arrived this
8:04 am
morning. they say there was fire going through the roof of the building. they reported collapses in and outside of this building, including the roof. 100 firefighters are on the scene right now. 28 firetrucks in total. now, they are also dealing with chemicals, as i mentioned. this is a floor company, a flooring business. so firefighters are saying that there is runoff coming from the chemicals into the water here as they've been trying to battle this fire. we did talk with the chief a short time ago. let's listen to what he told us. at this point we believe we have a variety of chemicals that were -- that's used in the flooring business that are involved in this fire. we do have some issue with potential runoff that montgomery county and the team is asituating us with that eggs s. we believe they are petroleum-based chemicals at this point. so much information of the

chemicals involved in the fire we're trying to still figure out exactly what ' have. this building was unoccupied. it's a bits. i actually checked online it is closed on the weekends. back here life, this fire not under under control. an unstable situation. i got to tell you again there's mention those chem can calls that they're worried about as we were walking here through the water, the firefighters told us don't walk through the water. there's chemicals in the water. they're still trying to deal with the latest. thank you. > it is exactly 8:05. many stories without a place that stay after an overnight fire in trenton. firefighters were called out to this scene, this is the 700 block of centre street. this is about 126789. 30 this morning. the fire started in one home and them it quickly traveled along the roof line to another. we know that one person is being treated for smoke inhalation. the cause is under investigation. also new this investigation, licensed and inspect is

8:07 am
northeast corridor. that group ordered amtrak to immediately modify its existing automatic train control system on the northbound tracks with this deadly derailment happened. that's the system that can slow a train down. it's already in place on the southbound tracks. this alerts train engineers of slower speeds, something in the way and automatically apply a train's brakes in the engineer doesn't slow down. amtrak must analyze safety risks on all of the curves on this very busy northeast corridor and the company must also more speed limit signs. coming up, hey, new jersey, is it time for own gas? one lawmaker is saying that it's time to join the rest of the country, every state except oregon and new jersey pumps their own gas. is it time for us to do it as well? what do you think? this is your tech bite from the tech

keep them coming in. we love seeing the pictures. it makes karen very happy. as i often say, karen is happy, i'm happy. > all right. we have some big news of course. the president is coming to our area tomorrow to talk about community policing. he's going to be in camden on check out the reshaped police force. two years ago it was extremely controversial when the county system was created and there still are plenty of critics out there, but there's also been a the mr. of successes. crime is down and the number ofs oners patrolling the streets in camden is one the big forces behind the changes. the freeholder lou is contact medical a jr. thanks for joining us. what's going to happen tomorrow when the president comes? when the president comes he's going to recognize the efforts of our police officers and tell the rest of the nation that the community policing model that we have in camden is a model that should be followed throughout the rest of the nation. in camden our police officers are working in partnership with the residents to help prevent
8:13 am
and fight crime. so it's something that has been extraordinarily successful. we still have a long way to go. this is not mission accomplished, but certainly we're moving in the right direction and the president is coming tomorrow to tell the rest of the nation and the world that camden can is moving in the right direction. everyone should take notice and follow our lead. is this going to be a basketball game? yes, there's going to be a basketball game between some of our officers and some students and that takes place on a weekly basis in camden. our officers serve ice cream to children. they play basketball, football. it's a real community effort. we have a long way to go when it comes to policing. we've seen many protests in baltimore and throughout this factor. do you think this is helping with the trust factor. >> it's absolutely a trust factor. they are assigned to the neighborhood once he will be serving. they get to knock on doors.
8:14 am
we're here to help, not hurt you. there certainly have been a the look of critics. they say this is union busting. we got rid of a lot of jobs. we got a lot of tweets on this one. some people are feeling mixed feeling. mr. president our camden maror dan a red and the camden schools is operating outside the law robbing residents of our rights. what do you think some of the people that have been critical of this program and some of the others. there will always be anyway says. when we started this process three years ago there was a staining coalition of convicted criminals and some camden county police chiefs who were all acting in concert to try to stop the formation of this department. fast forward three years, murders is down over 50 percent. violent crimes down over 30 percent, the shooting incidents are down close to 60 percent and the president of the united states is coming to camden to say this the right model to follow. one of the things i know he's going to be checking out is the
8:15 am
realtime technical operations center. these are just cameras basically all around, right? >> that is correct. it's 21st century technology that helps enhance the 19th or 20th century policing model of walking the beat, riding bicycles throughout the neighborhoods. we got announced this is going to be a promise zone. looking ahead in about 30 seconds, what does that mean. >> extra help for small businesses in the promise zone neighborhood. extra help with regard to residential development. extra help with regard to public safety. so it's very porsche designation that will help move that neighborhood along. > all right, thank you so of. i just got this tweet that came in brian park that said we're looking forward to president obama coming to camden, new jersey tomorrow. i'm sure as well. thank you for joining us on this morning. >> thank you. > let's take a look at the water. as karen pointed out, a lot of things going on. the italian festival is going on over on ninth street. people can get out and enjoy that. lots of great events.

we're taking a look at the poconos right now. it's chill up there. even though no snow, today isn't a day to get out there. first there's a question. good morning, this little boy is nine years old today. is name is aaron rocket. can we get his birthday forecast on hashtag fox 29? hi, owen. >> hi. >> hi, owen, happy birthday. the ' birthday weekend there. the weather is not too bad, but not perfect. certainly. we're seeing more showers out there today. what's happening is a front moving through the area. it's to the north and to the south is this is where we're getting the showers morning. not likely to see some light rain to the northern suburbs, but right here across the western suburbs down through new castle county and extreme southern new jersey. a few showers out there this morning. they are moving to the southeast just some very light rain. elsewhere it is cloudily and fog guy so reduced visibilities up

educational. pull one up. this is one is a sesame street app. >> let's play. what do you like about this one in. >> one of the great things about this app, there are a few kind of key principal that we found in our research that is truly education l al. what your child can learn, you're actually seeing in the outside world. this app has your child engaged not just on screen but actually engaged with those around them, with parents and other friends and see the things that they're learning out in the real world. start by picking something that is three or four feet away so we can pick that pole and then the number of steps is eight. this gets them to guess how far away something is. instead of just going through and practicing counting with a flash card app that says one, two, three, four, five here we're getting kids to use that knowledge every day in our actual lives. this is with other people, too. let's take a look at another app right here. we've got one called alien add ventures. one of the things that we also see with this is we're taking
8:33 am
some of these apps outside of the digital world. this is i cool app where kids are placed onen a adventure in which an alien comes down and they need to see. kids will go around the house and take pictures of something that is hot, something that is heavy and take the pictures back to a caregiver who will tell them whether that's true or not. we're taking the digital lessons out into the real world. whatever happened to giving kids a book, the paper kind? debbie is a lot like me. i don't give my kids any kind of phone or an ipad. do you advocate for that at all or do you think we should be doing some educational apps. >> the message here everything is good in moderation. giving your child an ipad for 20 minutes isn't going to hurt anything. but i really subscribe to the idea that kids need to have a well-rounded experience. parents are taking away their own interactions and are replacing it with digital. it's marked education l al, it
8:34 am
must be educational. the big secret we don't really know that. there is no board that says this must been educational app. i don't have to time to go through thousands of apps. is a list someplace that says here ' some of the best apps out there. the app for a two year old is good for for them it might not be good four months later. is my child minds on? are they actively thinking about what's going on. a big one we saw was dist traction, one of the things is my child engaged. they have bells and whiz also. extra games that pop up. if it takes kids away from actual learning it's actually distracting. witness of the great things about paper books is parents are engaged with their kids
