a fiery crash on new jersey turnpike right around exit number two. boy, this is horrible. believe it or not, ladies and gentlemen, nobody seriously hurt. that is what is left of a car and the tractor trailer. what a mess. bobbies on it. >> you got it. good morning, everybody. that is a live look from above the overpass on the new jersey turnpike. that is not the same video good this is unexpect drop in a sweet 16 party, what came falling from the sky from an airplane that fouled up the party. it is poop. it is a big night for the the sixers, as of tonight we will necessity where sixers are in selecting next month's nba draft. what are our chances for a first pick? we will bring in all of the
7:01 am
good luck charms, so everybody, because do what you do to bring in good luck and tweet us, facebook us, instagram us, fox 29 good day and tell us what will do you to get that good luck so we cannery bill. >> get the number one pick. >> yes. >> wear your lucky underwear. >> that what you do. >> i'll have to buy some. >> 7:01. lets get to the accident. jenny a has a camera out there. >> north bound lanes, new jersey turnpike closed between exit one and two. this happened around 4:00 this morning. an accident involved a vehicle, two tractor trailers and a bus and right now all north bound lanes of the turnpike are closed, jenny joyce is live at the scene, jenny, it is amaze ago this no one was seriously hurt in this crash. >> it is amazing, that is what we are hearing from the lieutenant of the woolwich fire department right now. you can see live flames there in the front part of the
7:02 am
tractor trailer. you can see smoke still going. you can see contents inside that vehicle. on the back side thaw might the not see from this vantage point there was a backhoe that was brought the in to help fire crews open to back door to try to get in there to stop contents from fueling this fire. as you mentioned, it happened around 4:00 a.m. it is involves a tractor trailer and car which immediately went up in flames but like we said people were able to get out safely. we were hearing there were two transports with non-life threatening injuries. on the back side of the tractor trailer there was a shuttle bus involved, no word on any injuries there. then there was another tractor trailer which is new on the front end of this crash, off to the side, which was not a serious impacted either. we know that there are six fire departments on the scene, continuing to try to monitor this and get out those hot spots, get out all the flames, bob. >> jenny, of course, what will happies they have that backhoe
7:03 am
that came in. they will pull contents of that tractor trailer out of is what left of that charred vehicle. where there is smoke there is fire. they will hose that down. typically that is what happens when we get one of these situations. here's the scene. it is northbound new jersey turnpike, which is between exit number one and two. so anyone that goes over the delaware memorial bridge they will be forced to go north along 295, that traffic you saw moving past the scene, that is just stuck traffic that has been out there since about 4:00 o'clock this morning. another accident westbound on the pennsy turnpike between norristown and valley forge, it is actually west of that norristown interchange causing delays. within hour and 40 minutes out of laguardia. that will have a domino effect here in philadelphia we have been dealing with the fog, poor visibility since first thing out of the gate this morning. check with the airline before they helped down to the airport. here's an example coming into
7:04 am
philadelphia, fog on the ben franklin bridge we have fog here and up and down portions of 202. also socked in with fog out of northeast philadelphia as well and southbound lanes of i-95, heavy from cottman avenue down through girard. delays coming in on 422 from collegeville in toward king of prussia live look at the schuylkill expressway not bad at the moment at the curve. in delays on mass transit, back to a full schedule on both septa's trenton line and amtrak northeast corridor. sue, this fog has been really causing poor visibility. we mentioned earlier a bad hair day. >> bad hair day could slow you down. hopefully it will end up better. we have a six out of ten. budd witt rain gear we have had scattered showers this morning and we have a chance of some more, maybe around the the time that school is letting out later on this afternoon but he has got phillies cap on. six in a row. anyway we have scattered showers. we will look more closely in a
7:05 am
few moments. 62 degrees. 90 percent relative humidity. very sticky out there. your planner for a stray storm or two later this afternoon and a high temperature of 83 degrees. cool change for spring fling tomorrow, guys, we will talk bit coming up. >> we will be in media tomorrow morning. >> well, polls are opened, alex. >> residents have will have a chance to vote in philadelphia's mayoral primary election. >> that is exactly right, aside from picking the mayor, voters will nominate candidates for city council, city commissioner and number of state, municipal judgeships, supreme court has three openings. >> yes good 7:05 now. here's steve. >> reporter: mike, never were in pennsylvania history three openings for pennsylvania supreme court at the the same time. another historical day, right. mike, you will remember these movies. these were out before you were born. zero seven's movie the gauntlet with clint eastwood and airplane with leslie neilson. we have to walk through a gauntlet just to vote here.
7:06 am
the these are people if you are undecided walking up the sidewalk here they will try to make deis for you, handing you this paperwork and then mike, to you remember the scene in the original airplane leslie neilson trying to get through the the airport and all these people handing religious tire and he is beating them up and dong kung fu movies. how fun would i that be. yes. but, anyway, those scenes played out in my mind as i see these guys showing up a at 7:00 o'clock. big primary day. in pennsylvania, and in philadelphia specifically primary elections here in philadelphia are in reality six months early. general elections. philly has not had a republican mayor in 63 years. we have talk to the committee of 70, that is government advocacy group and mr. thornberg who lead that right now and he says why is that? what can be done about that. >> i actually am more and more convinced that the future of
7:07 am
voting will be with independent voters. 40 percent of the voters are registered as independents. if you read tea leaves from 2008 and 2012 presidential elections that is what swung the vote for president obama. 47 percent of the voters in new jersey are registered independents. pennsylvania is a little different. we're behind the curve. i think 13 percent around the state areindependents, in philadelphia is there just as many people registered as independents, as registered republican. that is where the future is. >> reporter: turnout will be key and here in mt. airy, some great looking people, well dressed people, showed up as soon as these polls opened up at 7:00 o'clock. would i say within the first minutes and we have a let me see, 12 hours and 56 minutes to go, and i will not the judge complete turnout by that but we see a guy brings his family here to the left.
7:08 am
this is great. teach kid about democracy about taking them in the polling with you, i would have loved that as a kid, there you go, but still going, today as well. so that family beat this guy to the left who is late with the signs. too bad. those voters got in past him. they won't be influenced by this last minute lawn signage here but good turnout already here. only 10 percent of the people of philadelphia are going to decide hot next marries. that is kind of shameful. you see these people risking their lives in the middle east to vote, and here we get on with our lives and go through daily routine and that is why we are out here reminding you if you are a philadelphia voters to take two minutes out of your day, all these places are right in your neighborhood, stop on your way to work, way home from work or lunch if you can. >> now steve, question for you, i know i'm new to the area but i have been a poll worker in texas.
7:09 am
i have cover polls and all that in south carolina and missouri. i have never seen people can get this close to the voting booths and being campaigning for different people. you can do that here. >> reporter: rules are different here in philadelphia in philadelphia it is legal for these campaign workers to tackle you on your front line and drag you down to the sidewalk to the polling place. we have different rules here. we go out of our way to influence you and get to you vote. alex, you should google street money. here's another thing about philadelphia, on election day, street money, it is even sounding illegal but perfectly legal. they pay people to go door to door, and hold people by the hand and say it is election daze we need you, to come with us right now and cast a vote. that is how a lot of votes are cast. if it wasn't for street money and people working just for today for that street money, a lot of people wouldn't vote. another unique thing. >> nothing to do with the
7:10 am
candidates, milton street, it is just a slang term. >> how much does that pay. >> probably minimum wage, on where in the 70's i would think. philadelphia police are investigating two violent crimes happening overnight just minutes apart in olney. a around 11:45, police say a man was hospitalized after being pistol whipped during a robbery, it happened near a chinese restaurant on the 300 block of champlost street. emergency personnel took the the victim to the hospital in stable condition. much worse story, the investigators are trying to figure out identity of the victim who was murdered just before midnight in west philadelphia they say a 20 something year-old man listen to this, was shot 18 times on the 1300 block of conestoga. police say they have found a semiautomatic weapon in an unlocked suv parked near the man's body.
7:11 am
they are trying to determine if that weapon was the one weapon used. it looks like it was, semiautomatic. and 7:11 now on this tuesday. a week ago tonight is when that amtrak train derailed. the ntsb says they are unsure that the train was hit by something before the accident. it looks like it in the windshield. apparently they have ruled out the fact and fbi a has helped them out, they don't think it was a bullet of any kind. >> they say it was a size of the grapefruit. transportation agencies say projectiles are a common problem for moving trains that includes throwing rocks at trains. moments before the amtrak derailment a septa trin was hit by some type of projectile on those same tracks as we reported earlier. >> era sell a train was hit. >> septa police say this is something dangerous that really must stop. >> we want folks to understand the the danger of throwing rocks at trains. it is not a fun activity. it can cause injury. it can cause damage. it can cause injuries to the
7:12 am
person throwing the rock. >> this is such a daunting task though, 200 miles of track. >> how do you top kid from being kid and throwing things? septa admits patrolling more than 200 miles of its own tracks is a challenge but ask the public to help. you can help identify these security risk such as broken or unlocked gates that allows people to get too close to the trains. >> yesterday we found chain linked fence and gates, they were padlocked but the gap between the two gates, anybody could slip through it. >> especially a kid. >> then we also found areas with no fence at all. 7:12. two local attorneys filed lawsuits on behalf of some of the passengers on that train from a week ago. two very well known attorneys, mongeluzzi and tom kline, say, safety system which could have prevented this deadly accident, should have been in place sooner. meanwhile some encouraging
7:13 am
news about the the patients at temple university hospital after the train derailed. doctors are still treating eight people there. they say just three are in critical condition. doctors expect them all to make full recoveries. as you know, more than 200 people were hurt a week ago tonight. it is a waste of a sweet 16 party when the celebration end in a pile of poop. >> yes. >> we're talking about human waste, fell out of a sky during a backyard party sunday night in levittown. the the gathering for a 16 year-old came to a halt when it started raining feces, yes. her family says only explanation could be a plane flying above that was releasing the waste falling on their brand new camp and party. the setup and the cake. >> this case tastes like... >> okay, the tent covered the food. they had a ten and covered party goers but still.
7:14 am
>> we just got done with cake thank god. we took the cake back in. within two minutes something fell from the sky. it wases brown. it was every where and felon everything. >> well, she said she pulled out an app i never heard about on her cell even if and it is called plane above you. she saw there were five planes that had flown over. now they are trying to track down which plane it was. of course, it is against all f faa rules, you can only do that on the ground but on how it slipped out of the plane flying over a birthday party. >> what plane is carrying human feces. >> all planes carry human feces. >> do you release them like that. >> no, they have to land and they take it out. >> they have a tank or something where it can't just fall out like that. >> no, i guess if you hit a certain button. >> you hit the wrong button. >> i think maybe back in the day over the ocean they used to release that stuff but they
7:15 am
don't do that any more. >> did you think they were pressing for flight attendant. >> can we have some coffee up here. >> wrong button. >> my bad. >> good morning, everybody. 7:15. here's a live look at fire fighters in south jersey, continuing to pour water on this tractor trailer fire. it happened around 4:00 this morning. it looks like they are spraying it down. it is a live will from the overpass above the the scene at 4:00 this morning. two tractor trailers, a vehicle and a bus collided on the northbound lanes of the northbound new jersey turnpike approaching exit number two. what you have here is what is left of the trailer. inside we have within seeing the smoke smoldering here. they have brought in a backhoe. what they do in a situation like this they pull out all of the cargo to spray it down, hose it down, bring in a big old dumpster and get rid of
7:16 am
them. that is the seat of what was the tractor trailer of the driver seat of the tractor trailer and then it collided into the back of a sedan. luckily, and here's the driver's seat of this sedan that rear ended the tractor trailer. just amaze ago this nobody was kill. some injuries. two people taken to the local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. lets go to the maps. anyone heading north bound this morning you are forced off at exit number one as you come over the delaware memorial bridge. the accident happened again northbound approaching exit number two, and anyone going over that delaware memorial bridge. this will be here for rest of the morning rush hour. once you get into new jersey you're forced to go north on i295. another accident westbound on the turnpike just passed the norristown interchange involving two or three vehicles. fog delays in philadelphia, one hour in philadelphia, new
7:17 am
york clocking at one hour and 40 minute delays. that will set us back down at the airport. here's an example of that fog in northeast philadelphia, some poor visibility. look at traffic coming through i-95, a light morning so far here out of northeast philadelphia and some fog delays a along route 202, as you roll through malvern, chester county, again, 422 eastbound heavy from collegeville in toward that king of prussia interchange. the lights are out on the roosevelt boulevard at bustleton avenue, no cross traffic this morning, folks using harbison or devereaux and sue, will we see sun at all today. there are a few peaks of sun in the forecast but before we get to that i want to get you ready for the the holiday weekend especially at the shore. here's what you need to know about the jersey shore this holiday weekend. it is not going to be hot at the shore. high temperature saturday 65 degrees. sunday 68. inching into the 70's on memorial day itself. little bit milder but chance
7:18 am
of the pop up then are storm or two and ocean water temperature only 59 degrees. definitely even though it is unofficial start to summer it will feel springish down at the jersey shore. so having prepared are to you that lets talk about what is facing, you saw how foggy it is. we have a few showers still hanging around. bucks county, montgomery county, around norristown, lower southford, phillipsberg in the lehigh valley, a few stray showers around cape may as well and the future cast shows pretty much all of that is out of here by about 10:00 o'clock this morning. here we go at 1:00 o'clock, 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon pop up showers and thunderstorms. very isolated but if you get one it could be, a lot of rain, win and very loud. so that chance lasts through about seven or 8:00, all pushing off shore, skies clear
7:19 am
overnight and we will get cooler tomorrow but we are still dealing with fog this morning, in dover, delaware, millville, reduced visibility in wilmington, 3 miles visibility at airport, sock with fog in lancaster, mount pocono, trenton has been experiencing fog all morning licensing as well, the temperature in philadelphia 62 . in the 50's to the north of us and heading to 83 by the end of the day. seventy-one tomorrow for our spring fringe, might want to bring a sweater in the morning and evening if you are joining news media, pennsylvania, even cooler on thursday but we do inch in the 70's, so inland it will be warmer over the holiday weekend but remember what we're saying mike and alex about the jersey shore and delaware beaches, it will not be hot this weekend. >> hey, sue, changing topics your daughter nia will start college in september. >> yes. >> don't make her cry. >> don't worry about it. >> okay. her grandparents will pay her loans off, it is a new trend.
7:20 am
lauren will tell us about this, you got all of the student loans, right. >> yep. >> now you got student loan debt, into your 20's and 30's, maybe your early 40's. >> wow. >> i will tell you who is paying for it now. it is a new trend. but first you have to kind of graduate from high school, right. we have seen all these graduations. jen is getting ready to have a great grad party look, jen. >> absolutely because people are having parties at kindergarten graduation party or grad school graduation party, daytime, nighttime, do i wear bling or in the wear bling, we will talk bit all and we will give you good do's and don't's. you will want to see it, coming up. and plus, all morning long we will be covering this because it is a a congestion on the new jersey turnpike is going to last all morning licensing. one of the worst wrecks we have seen in a long time. i used to be able to have
7:22 am
students come in and we do a social studies project and it was connected to language arts, and it was connected to math. we educated in such an interdisciplinary way that educated the whole child. the testing shouldn't be in the driver's seat. i should be in the driver's seat. i should be directing my students in a way that's helping them make connections, not just for an assessment, but for life.
7:24 am
she has her new little, jack who is now almost five months. this is the the first couple weeks of his life. well, get this, children now in america who have a lot of student loans, they are asking their grandparents to help pay off their loans. i thought i was done. >> nope. >> lauren? >> i know, you think you put your kid through college and that is it. yeah, no. a new report says for people who are 65 and up, mike, i think you have sometime. >> not much. >> they are holding more student debt, not their own student death but kid and grand kid student debt then they have in 25 years. number is not huge, it is about $2,300 but way back in the 80's it was a couple hundred dollars, maybe four hundred dollars. so when you announce people when you are retiring, no one will say 65, they will never retire, i will work until the day i die because you pay for
7:25 am
other people to go to college. >> here's what mike can do. my grandparents when i was born they started to saving up, then. maybe you should start saving now, so it won't be so much when they get to their college days. >> when does it end. >> it doesn't end. >> that is the thing when does it end, when can you say, you need about a million-dollar for retirement, that is what most experts will tell you. when do you look at your finances and say, yeah, we're in good shape. it is difficult. >> i tell you when it end when you hear that creaking even, that is the coffin lid shutting. >> they can still get you have after that. >> yeah, into my retirement. >> yes. >> i know, lot of very selfish grandparents say we have got the money but we have work a lot and, that is done. >> i won't name any names. >> lauren, you are great, we will see you tomorrow. >> bye, guys good from one
7:26 am
lauren to another lauren. >> we are talking about lauren johnson because it is now you one week since amtrak derailment. >> mike and alex, yeah, on the road to recovery here, a broken leg, four fracture ribs, a broken back but he lived to tell but what happened, amtrak train 188. we will talk to lenny after the break.
7:29 am
good morning, 7:30. lets look live at our cam credit here above the new jersey turnpike where we saw a nasty accident that involved two tractor trailers, a bus and a vehicle. what we're looking at right now is big rig right here, the toe, moving the the tractor trailer off in the center of the roadway so they could pull out the cargo what has been smoldering for the last couple of hours, there is the the cab, take a look at the the car, what is left of the car, after it was rear ended by that tractor trailer. there is what would have been the driver's seat of that vehicle. thank goodness nobody was in the back seat or there wasn't any child, the car seats, in the back. i always think of that when i see accidents right here. luckily in one kill. two people taken to local
7:30 am
hospital for non-life threatening injuries this were able to get out of the vehicles and tractor trailer before the fire started. this is all taking place north on the new jersey turnpike. so lets go to the maps. all lanes north bound are closed between exits number one, and exit number two. the only good thing about all of this is the alternate is actually a a fairly easy one. when you go over delaware memorial bridge all traffic is forced to go north on 295 instead of the new jersey turnpike. another accident, westbound, on the pennsylvania pennsylvania turnpike, near norristown, fog delays at philly and new york. heading to the airport pack your patients and check with the airline. here's an example, a live look from the schuylkill expressway, rose roosevelt boulevard. northeast philadelphia socked in with fog and that fog alone will add some travel time to your morning commute, but sue, i guess as the sun will eventually come out and burn this fog off. >> we do have some sunshine, in a future but not the immediate feature. i think eventually by
7:31 am
10:00 o'clock at the latest this fog will burn off and we will get sunshine but then we have another chance of pop up showers. so buddy, with his phillies cap on, six in a row, all with the rain gear. it is six out of ten, spotty showers around, they have reduced over last hour or so. 62 degrees as the sun tries to come through those cloud here in olde city, not successfully, 90 percent relative humidity. not a good hair day here either. once again there is bus stop buddy. so for today, plan on a high temperature, in the 80's, a little bit of sunshine this afternoon and also a stray then are storm, because you know what on a day like today. >> you can never rule out a pop up thunderstorm. >> you finish my sentences now, mike yearrick. >> you know, you complete me. >> she's giggling. >> i'm grateful every day. >> gratitude is my new attitude.
7:32 am
7:31. it was one week ago tonight that a lot of lives changed, so many people on board, over 200 people on board that amtrak 188 that derailed right here in philadelphia. >> many are still recovering from their injuries. one of those passengers is lenny knobs, who was captured wearing i black pliers shirt and khaki shirts. they were taken by former pennsylvania a congressman patrick murphy. you can zoom in and see him right there. >> police officers trying to rescue him. you can tell he sees his tables he was in the cafe car which was about four cars back. >> yeah good badly, badly injured lenny was. >> he had broken ribs and also a fractured back. so some pretty serious injuries. >> he made national news because a few networks went into his hospital room, and interviewed him right there in the bed. he wases in bad shape. his four year-old son really worried about him and could not understand why his dad was not coming home. he got quite emotional during one of the interviews.
7:33 am
pretty big flares fan on the mend. he was in the happy think up until two days ago. >> yes good he might have have gotten home yesterday as a matter of fact. >> we're happy to say he is on the mend right now. >> that is where lauren is right now. >> that is right, he went home friday night. we're all smiles here because we have a great story, to all this. you have been telling me this story. we will let viewers know. last week your son ryan five years old had karate. you did not want to miss his practice. >> i did not the. >> you said i have to get to new york for your new job you started in april. >> correct. >> you decided to take your first train ride ever. >> first train ride ever good tell me what happened. >> i get on the train, again, i'm new to the train. i didn't know where to stand. i was about to get on the second cart when i saw a friend have mine. i walk by to sit with him. thankfully that put me on the third car and not the second car. >> you are in the cafe car sitting face-to-face with the
7:34 am
table. >> correct. >> ten minutes in we are sitting there showing pictures of our kid and next thing i know the train shook violently and not even a second after that we were thrown around the the cart good because it was your first train ride you didn't have a chance to act is this normal you didn't know what to expect. >> i didn't than necessity i was about to ask him is this normal, and we were thrown throughout the cart. >> were you then from where you were sitting close to the other even of the train. >> to the other end of the train. >> what do you remember at the that point. >> at that point severe pain. i was sitting there, my leg was trapped underneath the tables and other debris. severe pain and first thing i thought about was getting up to see my son and family. >> you are in the car turned over on its side. >> that is correct. >> you somehow with a broken leg, your bruised lungs, four broken ribs and a broken back
7:35 am
was able to climb underneath the train to get out. >> fire fighters they did help me. they put my legs out window and i was drug underneath the train. we didn't get backup top. >> you remember laying flat looking up at the stars. >> they put me into a staging area a hundred feet away from all of the cars that turned over. all the of the paramedics and fire fight are and police officers were running as well as flashlights flying bay me and then one police officer came over and said are you being held. they ordered a backboard and he knelt down and held my hand until the backboard came for me which was very comforting. >> do you think you will ever get on the train again. >> probably not, not at this point. i honestly probably have slept six or seven hours, i have severe nightmares. other day i woke up, because they have a train station here in conshohocken, i was yelling help, help. i am having severe nightmares
7:36 am
and i don't even know how i did sleep last night, maybe two hours last night. i can't sleep. i close my eye i see it all happen again. >> reporter: you talk tour friend that you saw on the train. >> he is okay. >> patrick murphy paid you a visit. >> i called him, he didn't call me. he said maybe within day this week he will bring over lunch to catch up on things. >> you got a vice the the from the flyers. >> yes, from the whole front office of the flyers. they brought goodies, signed jerseys, eric lindros and john leclair. >> we are glad to see you are on the road to recovery. >> i have been sitting in this same spot for last five days and i can't really do much. >> you won't be able toy won't be able to do much for a while. >> well, thanks for letting us come back. >> anytime good mike and alex. >> what does he think of the new coach.
7:37 am
>> what do you think of the new coach. >> i don't know what to think. north dakota is a good team. he has help them get to a bunch of frozen four's. we will see. >> it is different. he's hopeful. >> did i hear you say it was lenny's first trip on the train. >> first ever train ride, last tuesday night, after watching his son's karate practice. >> would he ever do it again if you work in new york you have to take a train. >> i necessity and i asked him that and he said his first trip to new york, he drove up. nightmares. >> i have a newer car and i just bought it this year and i didn't want to take a hit. i figured i with take a train. >> not no more. >> not no more good what does dough to keep himself occupied during the day. >> reporter: well, he was watching you and mike when we walk in, "good day philadelphia" from six to
7:38 am
10:00. >> we will take that. >> thank you. >> all right. >> good luck to that whole family, five-year old son. 7:38. you are not supposed to drink alcohol when you are pregnant, right. >> right. >> what happens in the first few weeks when you don't know you are pregnant, doctor mike is here with some kind of startling information, new research.
7:41 am
it is a huge night for sixers, starting property suggest's we get ready for draft. >> i will be watching good tonight we will know where sixers are select nothing next month's actual draft. >> it is complicated here. the draft is next month. lottery is tonight. sixers have a 16 percent chance of getting a first pitch. they could draft from first to sixth, in the draft, when it happens next month. they currently have about, 47 percent chance, that is good, of staying in the top three, man we need to be in the top three. here's video of the lottery happening last year. nba released this to show how lottery works. it is kind of like lottery every night at 11:00 o'clock.
7:42 am
this is not as simple as someone pulling a ball out with the sixers logo on it. there are no logo. fourteen ping-pong balls number one through 14 are placed in that machine. there are over a thousand possible combinations, when four balls are drawn out of the 14. prior to the lottery the various combination are a ironed the participating lottery teams. sixers included. there are thousands of number combinations that determine the lottery winner. i know you didn't under tan any of that. let me just tell you our chances who are. tank a-a-thon.com is a web site we go to, has a lottery simulator. so we just push a button right there and we will roll the odd. the lets see if it punch up this late, tonight. number five. >> five. >> still in the topsix. >> there we go, number two. >> we like that one.
7:43 am
roll the dice1 more time. two again. >> okay. >> we will take two. >> that is great. >> basically, we need all of the help we can get though. we want to get in the top three. what is your good luck charm? what do you do to bring in that good luck because lets do it now. tell us on facebook, instagram and twitter. just use the the hash tag fox 29 good day, to give us good luck. you also need luck when you are trying to find out what you will wear. one of my friend has been to at least three already and jen, how do you know what to wear. >> time of the day i bet. >> that is a good one. >> i'm trying to get ready, yes, it is not only time of the day but it is location, location, location. we will talk about what the question are that you need to ask and some do's and don't's. we always have so much fun here. come right back. i have lipstick on i'm ready to go.
7:46 am
we are still looking live at what is left of this accident, that caused major delays this morning on the new jersey turnpike. this is what it is left of the tractor trail their caught fire, after a collision with another vehicle. it happened around 4:00 o'clock this morning on the northbound lanes. lets take a look at the what is left, there is the vehicle, that was, involved in the crash, and here's the driver's seat or is what left of it.
7:47 am
there is steering wheel that is left, of the cab, of the tractor trailer. so it is two tractor trailers, a vehicle and bus on the northbound lanes of the turnpike. lets go to the maps. all north bound lanes are closed between exits number one and exit number two on the northbound side of the turnpike. anyone that goes over the delaware memorial bridge into new jersey. the the only good thing it is an easy alternate pushing everybody north up to 95. good news, it is day number two full service here on the northeast corridor trenton line running with no delays looking good on amtrak all aboard there. the trenton line they are making all stops including north philadelphia station and an accident west on the pennsylvania turnpike, past the norristown interchange, and we're socked in with fog at the airport philadelphia looking at within hour delays, new york out of laguardia one hour and 40 minutes. check with your airlines. coming in on the bennie, sock with fog, headlights coming into philadelphia, you, will

this fog stay with us all day licensing here. >> not all day but we're in the soup for a couple more hours this morning. a lot of moisture in the air but not a lot left to look at on radar, just a few drips, drabs, here and there and a few left over showers from what we had yesterday, montgomery county, bucks county, we are not seeing too much left at the jersey shore. lets check temperatures. sixty-three in philadelphia at the airport. upper 50's to the north of us but little milder to the south of us, mid 60's for new jersey shore and for dover, delaware at the moment. as we look at past seven days we will see that we have had a warming trend, like yesterday, we got up to 87 degrees, average high is 75. we will above average today but below average tomorrow and thursday. back to mid 70's by friday. after the holiday weekend, friday, saturday, sunday look great. not too hot which is comfortable, perhaps for your backyard barbecue and then for
7:49 am
memorial day itself for ceremonies and parade that are happening in the morning we should be okay, pop up thunderstorms possible in the afternoon and spring fling tomorrow will be very spring i, high of 71. >> in media you are excited. >> yes. >> we will be at state and jackson street. >> dining under the the stars. >> there won't be stars. >> under the sun. >> yes, under the the moisture. >> party season is here, backyard barbecues and stuff like that. graduation parties are a big deal. you can graduate from kind gander, preschool, middle school, high school, college. >> so jen was just talk about -- >> grad school. >> some of the things you need to know to help decide what you wear. we have one, we were thinking time of the day. >> location. >> the other thing -- location is a big deal, right. >> absolutely good i want you to see is that you give advice. sometimes you will say you have this, it can go with that. that is what war doing.
7:50 am
we will give more advice today. >> yes. >> we will begin with when it comes to location and if you bring up stacy here, what do you need to know about this outfit. where would this go this would be like a daytime graduation party, little casual look. this is a yum seven suit. if it were shorts it would be a romper and some people call it a pant suit but it is no the a pant suit. pant suits are days gone by. it is a jump suit. >> she looks amazing, comfortable but she's all dressed up and took awe shower. >> that is adorable. >> yes. >> other thing you are saying is depending on the length of the skirt we have to worry about the heels, right. >> right. >> i forgot we were doing jeans first. tell me about the white jeans. >> white jeans are hottest item of the season. everybody has to get a pair. wear them with any date night top. this is considered a date night top but a great daytime casual look.
7:51 am
>> wear that to someone's backyard. >> absolutely. >> you say that is one thing you have to reduce the bling. >> it is a natural material. it is etan/straw. it dresses it down a little bit. >> i love it. you are gorgeous. we have one minute left. lets get through these pretty quickly. this is interesting. if it is a daytime party but maybe at a country club. >> you cannot wear denim to the country club. nice sharp pant with the snake print which is very in style. >> i love the statement necklace as well. >> adorable. >> i love that this looks like a bold, bold print but it doesn't look like super prep i. it is beautiful. >> this type print is very in. if you notice there is a pop of the pink zipper, very exposed and popular and tops it off with pink shoes. >> where would you wear this. >> that is a daytime look for a graduation party, at a club, someone's backyard patio party. >> adorable. >> finally we have someone who just graduated.
7:52 am
>> yes. this is kind of cool. it says, again i'm a young person but i dressed up, i took a shower and i cared. >> we pared it with the flats to tone down the shortness on the dress to make it look in other appropriate for day wear. one thing that you have that is the shorter thehem, the lower the heel. >> daytime. >> they all look like they can get to different places and you can put them all in with the rest of your stuff. >> yes. >> we love it. nice work, ladies. >> different looks later yes. >> the clothes are adorable and i have to say they look like they are out of beverly hills, they are much more affordable then you might think mike jerrick. >> i like affordable. >> 7:52. do you want to see how much it cost close to hundred thousand dollars how a rugby players looks like he ruins the camera recording his autographs after the game.
7:56 am
a just released study shows alcohol consumption in the first four weeks of pregnancy can cause permanent changes in the brain. >> i don't think that is anything new, but doctor mike, how some people don't know they are even pregnant until three or four weeks in. >> that is what is so interesting about this particular study. it was in mice. but it is very concerning to me because what they found is in these mice, there were significant, long term, changes in the part of the brain called the hippo campus and the hippo campus was changed genetically and that can have long term effects. i don't know if we have a picture of the hippocampus but bottom line is, there it is, that is the part of the brain. do you see the little hippo camputs and that can have
7:57 am
effects. the take home message is at least if you are planning to have a child, you should not drink anytime the first couple of weeks. >> if you are planning on it, you have sex, back off the alcohol. >> in alcohol. >> if you are, that is only way to really, mess women don't necessity that they are pregnant for the first couple weeks of pregnancy and that is what this study highlighted. so we're learning more about, we always have men that alcohol during pregnancy is very, very dangerous, feet owe alcohol syndrome, things like that. what this study caught my attention about is the fact that even in the first couple of weeks of pregnancy can have long lasting effects on the brain. >> fetus is just very tiny. >> very tiny good starting to grow and develop. >> yes. >> i visited a hippocampus on safari in kenya, whole area. >> i have often wondered about
7:58 am
your hippocampus, i have wondered. >> we have all been wondering. >> it has been damaged. >> we have found it is very interesting map, it is called a disease map. look at the different colors. the number one thing that people die of in certain states. do you want to start with pennsylvania. >> lets do pennsylvania, and, look, this is, these are diseases that are above the national average. they pick the the most common ones. the one in pun fumo coney owes. >> you get that in your mine, west virginia, and, slipped down into another state where they have coal mines. >> exactly. >> now, delaware is sepsis, it is cardiovascular disease. new jersey was sepsis. now, this is not something you can take a whole lot home with but it is intriguing and might give us better way of looking at what we can do in particular states.
7:59 am
>> yes. >> new jersey is what. >> sepsis. remember, we talk about sepsis before where you get a blood infection? why, no one really necessary but that is a big cause of death in new jersey. in delaware cardiovascular disease. >> i have another question, yesterday afternoon i read this report that a woman in india, she died, after being in a coma for 42 years. what is that about, doctor mike. >> unfortunately sometimes when someone has suffered a catastrophic event of the brain, stroke or something like that, you can keep the body alive. >> but 40 years. >> depending on the condition, obviously it was a very young person and with good proper care, you can end up, in a silt ways like that. personally i will come back and haunt you if you do that to me. >> wouldn't you have bed sores and everything else. >> with good care, and i would
8:00 am
imagine that family took exquisite care of that loved one and i'm telling thaw with good nutrition, through a feeding tube and monitoring, unbelievable. >> i'll pull the plug if you ask me. >> please. >> i'm putting it on camera, on tape. >> i'll come back and haunt you, mike. >> good day, may 19th, 2015. here we go. crews continue to pour water on this nasty accident that has the new jersey turnpike shut down this morning. we will get latest from the the scene, and how it is impacting traffic, heading north on the new jersey turnpike, plus, a lot of traffic in the city, it is election day, steve. >> reporter: i'm with sam collista and it is like driving through within of the construction zones you talk about, bob with construction on both side of you just trying to vote.
8:01 am
this is classic bob kelly jammo at polling places to day. we will ask sam what it is like going through this just to cast his vote when we come back. jen, this is almost like watching one of your live shots having to go through so many people talking in both ears at the same time. >> thank you, teave for recognizing that. we have to recognize this. we have to go to a graduation party. how about a tonight time graduation party. the look is different and you need to know what to do ape what not to do. i would say this is definitely a do. >> this is a do, do. >> i like that a lot. >> speaking of do, do, you have you seen the new jersey turnpike north bound lane. i cannot believe the fire fighters are still squirting water on those vehicles this happened at 4:00 o'clock this morning. it is still smoldering. now they have a big old crane, to basically open up the tractor trailer so that they can get more water on,
8:02 am
whatever the debris was, the the cargo is a milk bag there but this is is what left. this happened around 4:00 o'clock this morning. it looks like they are pulling the car out. >> boom. >> on the big crane there. that is what is left of the one vehicle that was rear ended by that tractor trail they are morning that cause that had chain reaction. we have one car up on the chain. we have a tractor trailer. another tractor trailer and a bus. this all happen northbound, look at that still smoldering there they brought in a backhoe. they will empty that out, pour some more water on it. all north bound lanes of the turnpike remain closed this morning between exits number one, and exit number two. the only good thing about all of this is that the alternate kind of easy, when you go over delaware memorial bridge all traffic forced to go north on 295. so 295, we have seen a lot of extra volume this morning and then delays on the pennsylvania turnpike. we are jammo from
8:03 am
philadelphia, bensalem, all the way over to norristown from an earlier accident. just bumper to bumper willow grove through fort washington all the yah into norristown. looking at within hour delays at the airport because of fog and delays on the bennie coming in as well. would i love to show thaw shot sue but we are sock in with fog around the board here. >> yes, it has been a problem all morning slowing people down today. part of the reason why we chose a six out of ten. can you see bus stop buddy? not too easily. we have areas of fog and scattered showers. the reason he has rain gear is also because there is a chance of more showers popping upright around when school lets out later on this afternoon. 63 degrees. calm wind, that helps the fog unfortunately and relative humidity of 90 percent. in addition we have a bad hair day too. in your weather by the numbers it is a six out of ten. we expect a high of 83 degrees and chance of pop up then are
8:04 am
storms later in the afternoon. >> well sure, yeah it is election day. you decide, yeah. i have a mayor day quiz. who is melissa murray bailey? she's a center city attorney. isn't she lovely. >> she's running for mayor good and she will win the the republican primary today. she will win. it is a guarantee because there is nobody running against her. so then, so in other words, we're going to elect our mayor in this primary election, today. now, you cannot rule out the possibility of a huge upset, we have not had a republican in the mayor's office since 1952 okay. the odd of her winning in november, probably a million to one, or as jim curry would say. >> so you are telling me there is a chance yeah.
8:05 am
>> yeah. >> steve keeley, it is at great epiphany church in mt. airy where they have had a decent turnout so far. >> reporter: you have the same mind set of me or maybe i'm influenced too much. i have a movie clip i will try to out do you. i will out do your clip. no matter which way you walk to the poles, side sidewalk, you get met with these people. bags of literature they have on the sidewalk here. bags of literature. they start getting you a across the street. they will in the let you sneak in. coming up main way you can barely get up the steps. if you make it up the steps you have people on both side shoving literature in your face and talking to you. i have sam collista here with me and he has a fist full of paperwork. before we get to sammy will show you robert stack trying to walk in the airport in the famous movie airplane and here's what happened. >> excuse me we'd like to have .
8:06 am
>> nuclear power. >> no. good so, that is what i haddon my mind when i saw this this morning that clip as i saw as a teenager and i saw that movie 108 times when it came on hbo. very familiar, sam was nice enough not to beat up all these campaign staffers but i asked him grab something for everybody if you weren't doing it already and he has a whole bunch of stuff. if he took time to read that he wouldn't be able to vote until just before the polling place closest at 8:00 o'clock. they are trying to get the the undecided to switch the decision at the the last second somehow. did you look at any of that stuff when you looked in. >> yes, difficult. >> reporter: did it influence. >> yes, it did.
8:07 am
>> reporter: you change your vote or maybe your decision by piece of paper handed to you. >> but i looked at it before, we got all kind of literature in the mail. >> reporter: you got it all in your door and mailbox. >> yes, you got that right. >> reporter: you looked at it. >> yes, difficult. >> reporter: money well spent. >> what do you think of this scene coming up there. >> it is very interesting. it is lining walking on the catwalk and everybody is waving to you ape giving you things and wants to talk to you. very interesting. >> reporter: be honest with me were you tempt at all to beat any of these people like robert stack did in the scene from the airplane. >> a little will bit but i cannot -- i kept my calm. i was very professional. >> reporter: you told me you have never missed an election day. >> no. >> reporter: you are a true american. why do you think voting is so important for people who don't think it is so important because we will only have 10 percent of the city pick the next mayor. >> it is very interesting.
8:08 am
a lot of people have to come out and vote, because you have best man and or woman. >> reporter: it is hot and muggy. we will ski what else it is good for. you can fan yourself with that humidity. grab it and cool yourself off on the way home from voting. when he gets home more paperwork will be handed to him because his wife has that honey do list now that he is retired at 64. i agree with you. i have a tweet from a guy name troy willmore. you cannot complain if you don't vote. the president of the you had, speaking of voters, joined twitter yesterday. >> so dad, husband and forty-fourth president of the you had. >> i cannot have that on my twitter white house made at announcement on the rid yes on you tube. president obama is 1.7 million followers and we are in the through with day too. >> wow. >> reporter: so the potus handle which is president of

the united states, followed the members of his administration, when it comes to the number of people he is following and also he followed his favorite chicago sports teams. so his first tweet red hello twitter, it is barack. really. six years in they're finally giving me my own account. that is so cute. but then former president bill clinton, yeah, he tweeted welcome to twitter, potus. one question does that user name stay with the office. hash tag asking for a friend. >> he wants to change. >> the the president responded good question bill clinton. the handle comes with the house, know anyone interested. >> he might be a first lady. >> if hillary clinton wins what is acronym for bill clinton then. >> it would be first man, first husband. >> i don't know. >> first lady. >> first gentlemen.
8:10 am
>> no, no. >> old lady, but yet it would be a man. >> hillary in the white house they will to have figure out twit will handles. >> president's second tweet was about his visit to camden, new jersey. >> great spotlight put on camden. >> that is for sure. >> positive news out of camden. >> i don't think a president of the united states has been in camden since 1934 and fdr. >> you see people lining the streets there. so crowded. we are so glad he is coming to camden. let's q it up. >> it gives me the shivers. >> mary lee the the great white shark, there she is, having a what do they call it, the tracker, put on her fin. we have been able to track her for three years. she was just off the the jersey coast on saturday. where is she now? it will be a big weekend down
8:11 am
the the shore. >> we will be in ocean city on friday. >> she makes appearances. >> yes, she has her own twitter handle. >> we will talk bit coming up. but first a prom promise, high school quarterback fills his pledge to take his friend to the big dance. >> yes. >> how this special date was around a decade in the making. as teachers, we're on the front lines fighting to give every child the education they deserve. every child in every kind of school. jim kenney is the one we trust to be a mayor for all our kids.
