8:14 am
for vaunter fair magazine as a woman for the first time. he's become the very public face of people who are transgender or who are in transition. for single sex institutions like women's colleges it, has been a water shed year of changes. in our area, looking at bryn mawr college, they've already announced pretty big changes that were made just this february. our attorney, amy feldman, is here for women schools. good morning, aim. >> i good morning, karen? for women schools, this is so challenging. that will are we seeing? >> right. this is a really challenging issue that as you said is just now coming to the front of our collective thoughts here. largely because of people like bruce jenner who is making us think about how we identify ourselves. in the past, are you a manor are you a woman, had seemed like a binary choice. pick one or the other. as it turns out, there is a whole different spectrum that we had really not considered, which is people who are either born one way, but feel that they ida different way, who
8:15 am
are in transition, or people who may be born with characteristics of both sections, and who don't identify either as one or the other. so, in historically women only institutions like barnard college, which trustees are voting this week, or bryn mawr, in our area, where the trustees voted on the issue back in february, the question is: if we're an institution, dead kate dollars to educating women, how do we identify women when it is not always so clear? >> yes, used to be in the past it was just if you were born a woman, that's how you could be accepted into one of these schools. let me get to some of the comment. we had so many. there was picture that i saw, it is becoming increasingly common site up there at barnard college, the one seen up there at their college library, a gender inclusive bathroom. and then we got some comment, one from our neck of the woods, big high five goes out to bryn mawr college for ac safe place for trans gender people. but then there are a lot of people who take a different stance there is one from nicky, since when did women --
8:16 am
since when did women become a feeling? if anyone felt like anything else, they would be inches it tuesdayized. stop trans so far nitch 2.0. so, a lot of different very strong emotions and feelings about this one. what do you think about this whole concept where it used to be i guess in the past so simple, now we have this evolving philosophy on this? >> right. as you pointed out, to the bathroom focus people who are already admitted, who may be in the transition, or who don't identify one way or the other, the question is when you are trying to admit a student, keep in mind, these are high schoolers for the most part, 17 year old kids, who are in the process of transitioning or figuring out who they are, the question is, is it just based on what your birth certificate says? what happens if you're transitioning while a student and what do you do once you have a student there, who identifies differently than what the rest of the college looks like? >> what did bryn mawr decide? >> bryn mawr decided if you are a born a woman on your birth certificate, you identify as a woman, you can
8:17 am
apply. if you are born male, but have taken steps, or are in the process of identifying as a woman, they look at how you identify. now, the flip side is if you were born a female, but have taken legal or medical steps to identify as a male, you are not eligible for admission even though your birth certificate says our woman. that's the issue here, bryn mawr has said, we care about how you the student identifies, not what your birth certificate says. and i would be surprised if barnard doesn't take this same approach. >> all right, thank you for trying to breakdown something that is a complicated issue and topic and making it much simpler for us, amy, thank you. all right. >> hey, we're here in cape may at the exit zero international jazz festival where all weekend there is some amazing world class music. we all hope that you can get here. hey, how is the weather?
8:18 am
>> all right, michael, i hear you loud and clear. looks pretty good down there. sunny yesterday, nice and comfortable, the temperature dropped in the afternoon, that's a look at today, though, cape may county to cape may right on the southern tip of the county this close to the ocean, temperature warms up a bit by 2:00 then drops, it will be sunshine in the afternoon, but bit breezy. that wind about 15 miles an hour, maybe higher gust, with the water temperature climbing into the mid 60s, keeps the temperatures down just a bit. nice and comfortable. a lot of action there throughout the day, starting at 10:00 goes to 7:00 p.m. nice weather throughout the afternoon. mid 70s, north and west, little cooler mount pocono. little farther south, you see the temperatures into the mid seven's, nice and warm in wildwood, at the airport, right along the coals, just little cooler. the warmest part of the day right now. we are looking at temperatures climbing into the 80s, but look north. there is some cooler air that's pushing south. this is the front that we're talking about. that will be the focus for severe weather. it is up north today, later
8:19 am
this afternoon, strong to severe storms, and then that sags south. so tomorrow, right along i-95, we'll see these strong storms developing throughout the day. and that will continue tomorrow night. so, getting a lot of rain here over the next few days, it is warm, muggy, before that rain arrives. philadelphia could climb into the upper eight's, dropping to 83 by 6:00 cooler weather there, right along the coals, upper 60s, near 70 degrees. ultimate doppler shows just few sprinkles out there this morning, might see raindrop in the north and western suburbs, not the severe weather we are talking about. that would be later. could see just stray shower now, but look for heavier rain later this afternoon, this evening. storms late, mainly north and west, they are up to 88 degrees, that winds is about ten to 20 miles an hour, and 64 in the sit tonight. sixty-two in the suburbs. the storm could continue well after sunset tonight. so, look for this rain to come down until at least midnight tonight. finally tapering off by tomorrow morning. of course more rain in the seven day forecast, we'll see how many days we're expecting these storms, that's coming up

control very fast. you have lot of things in one space. when unorganized you'll never find anything. first thing i would do, get everything up off the floor. so can you not only see them, know where they are, but they'll be out of your way, and out of the center of the shed. another great idea, in a shed you're going to find brooms, rakes, shovels, they're always lining up against the wall. taking up floor space, and dangerous because they'll fall over. first solution: hang them up. either buy a storage rack that you can buy at any hardware store, simply put some screws in the wall, hang them that way, or you can buy a garbage or trash container, secure it to the wall, and when you're done with your shovel, broom, or rake, put them in the trash can, that way they'll not fall over, and you get bonus trash can out of it. >> organization is the key. one of my favorite little trucks, to buy lots of storage bins. each storage bin should be specific to a job. you should have a garden storage bin, so when you are

guard edge, you take the bin out of the shed it, has all your tools, all of your items you may need, bring it to where ever you are doing your gardening, finish day's work, put it back in the bin, back in the shed, that way not searching for things, tripping over things, everything organized right where you want it. another interesting idea, to organize your shed without spending any money, pick up a old pallet. take the top piece of wood off it, so you open up. perfect for all your rakes, shovels, brooms, they fit right in. you can mount this to the wall, so it is secure, the other nice part is since it is wood, you can go ahead, put screws in it, mount all of your little items, creates great shelf to hang on. again, not spending anything. it is something that you're completely recycling, be throwing away, cost me nothing, shed's reorganized. if you have a question you want answered tweet us hash 29
