girls didn't catch on. it was like, okay, if he catches a girl sleeping, a quick feel or whatever. or like if you're just not really aware, in the situations that happened when the girls were awake they weren't aware of what was happening. the girls say they've both forgiven josh and have moved on. the thing they're most angry about is the publicity they've been getting from the media. they told meaghan kelly they thought their parents handled the situation the best way possible and that the police report should never have been released to the public. comments come into social media. mark writes they obviously love their brother. they commend christians to be perfect. what he did was wrong, but what would you do if you were their family. shame on the officials that chose to release this story and finally from sandra, these poor girls are so brain washed that they defend a child molester. it's sad that they can't realize
8:15 am
that if they say that they forgive him it's the same as if they said that child molestation is no big deal. joining us now on fox to talk about this, our fox 29 legal analyst con rot while, good morning. good morning, bill. let's start from kind of the accusations that the family is throwing out there. there's questions about whether or not this information ever should have been leaked to the public. they say it was a leak. the authorities there say that they didn't break any laws and when it happened he was 18. legally should this information be out there? >> well, no, it shouldn't be out there. this happened when he was a juvenile and juvenile records are supposed to be kept private. so the leak that i think we're talking about legally where there's a potential problem is the leak by the police who leaked those records back in 2006. this family was supposed to go on the oprah show back in 2006 and some information was leaked to the oprah show saying this family is not what they appear to be and i believe the records were leaked at that time.
8:16 am
after that time period then in touch scene got ahold of these records and then further blue it up. i think the family does have a point in saying that these records should have never become public. i think they have a legal basis for saying that. it sounds like you're not buying the authorities' explanation that it never came to light until he was 18 and so bylaw they released it through a freedom information act. they're actually saying it would have been illegal for them not to have released the information? >> i don't think they have a problem. they're just taking information that was out there in the public domain and on blowing it up, maybing i bearing. you can argue about the ethics of that because it involved a juvenile. i don't think legally i don't think the magazine has a problem. i think potentially there could be a lawsuit against the police department but you have to deal with the statute of limitations there, too so there's going to be defenses. all in all i think everybody should trust the juvenile system that what happens to a juvenile, those records are basically to
8:17 am
be sealed and not to be made public because they're not supposed to prejudice somebody when they become an adult. these at whole reason for making juvenile records private. now, the legal side, as it relates to the duggars, now, they said in the interview, they put safeguards in place. the daughter said the family did the best that they possibly could, but still in all, at least two more incidents happened after that, according to reports. do they face any liability for not protecting others from claims that they were aware of? >> i don't think so. i think that would be a tough case. if you look at what they did, they did two things. they took their son to counseling. they basically sent him aand they sent him to this christian counseling group. they also went to the police and reported it. to be honest, that's going above and beyond. a lot of families that this happened to, one child to another child i think most families would keep it in-house. you can argue whether that's proper or no. i think the reality is that most parents are
8:18 am
noting whying to take their child down to police headquarters and report the incident. so the fact that the duggar did do that i think is going their defense, we tried to do everything we could do. the problem is that it happened a number of times. but, the story is, if you list especially to the family that each and every time that it was done, the son, josh, came and told the parents. so there's of discussion both ways on this issue. it sounds like more information is going to continue to come occupancy the discussion and the debate. ken, as always we appreciate your legal analysis. good seeing you, have a nice weekend. >> same to you, you have a good one. > the conversation continues on social media. we want to know what you think. you you can go to our fox 29 facebook. you can tweet us at fox 29 philly. just make sure you're always using the hashtag, fox 29 weekend. > it is 8:18 right now a lot of folks are trying to get ready, plan their days. i know we have strawberry festivals and lots of celebrations at long wood

hi, i'm bruce gordon. 11 term chack a fautor is about to be crowd facted. it sounds a little creepy are as the philadelphia daily news reports crowd pack is a website looking to find a democratic primary challenger to provide some competition. he's been under federal investigation for years, but that hasn't stopped the incumbent present winning reelection through reelection facing no competition at all in democratic primary and a sac figures lamb in the general he election. crowd pack is soliciting donation pledges for a slew of challenges in the hopes that one of them will accept the challenge and challenge fautor.
8:25 am
those pledges don't turn into donations unless the candidate actually formalizes the run. my take i've got three questions. how slanted must the campaign playing field be when virtually no one steps up to challenge the incumbent with no great record and an ethical cloud hacking over his head? second, how sad is it the local republican party can't muster up a candidate. third, the crowd pack site is designed to draft a candidate. so it doesn't seem like the challenger came up with the idea on their own. god forbid. how pathetic is it that potential rivals to the status quo have to fear backlash from the party. this crowd pack idea may actually generate a primary opponent come 2016. more likely it will generate some headlines, a little internet buzz and little else.

showers and storms, it's a bit muggy out there, but that is in chester springs, chester county, a few showers and storms this morning. don't worry there, little pup. it will be clearing out by 2:00. the clouds linger but it's dry, 7:00, 73-degrees. nice and comfortable this afternoon. the showers and storms will be developing this morning. it's not the afternoon type of storm, maybe 3, 4:00. thinks actually going to happen in the next two hours or so. mid to low 70s or so. it's meeting up, mild and warm. it could be into the 80s. these are light showers that we have now. a few spring also coming in from the north and west. with the moisture in the air and cold air coming in above the warm, muggy air at the surface, showers develop and along with a few thunderstorms and it will be through this area here. this gets picked up by the computer forecast. popping up these storms, maybe a few just north and west of philadelphia, but right around the city, i95 getting a storm developing to the south. these storms develop but they die down by about 4 or 5:00
9:15 am
except for a few lingering showers. it's right in the middle of the day we'll see the isolated storms develop and then it clears out. if you're heading out there for a bike ride this afternoon, andrew wants to know in cherry hill it should be okay if you wait a little while. the longer you wait the besetter your chances of dodging the storms that will be developing today. with the clear sky and the sky air it's not 60s tomorrow morning, it's 50s. 59 in the city, 51 grows in the suburbs. that wind will die down. it will be a fairly light breeze by tomorrow morning. a bit cool when you step outside, but hot and muggy weather returns in the sex day. i'll look the at numbers coming up a little bit later. we'll all looking forward to getting out there enjoying some nice events. thousands will watch the belmont steaks. there's one horse everyone is rooting for. it's american farrow. he could make history and become the first triple crown winner
9:16 am
from 97. our friend from 91.5 fanatic is here. we're trying to figure out what a horse is going to do. >> we'll talk horse racing. people are really excited. 90,000 people are going to much what. first time in years, possible triple crown. is this enough excite that your audience, people are on board. in the 70s, they had three triple crown winners in six years. it happens frequently. i hasn't happened since 1978. and 13 horses have had a chance to win the triple crown and they come up short. so why is that? why have so many horses won the first two legs not been able to do it? it will tell you that history has shown you that it's really tough to do, can american farrow do it. i feel like we need to this happen so we can stop talking about it. i'm excited today, believe it or not. i love this kind of stuff. you're awesome at your job. it just occurred to me. i'll sitting listening to all the information, the details you
9:17 am
have about horse racing. you're that deeply involved in it. it's just the race or people are on board. it's an event, an american iconic. you have the three races, you go out, to one of the turf clubs. i'll be honest with you, i don't know a lot about horse racing other than the three races when they come up but it's pretty araising, smart i jones in 2004, had a chance and was winning the whole way and then lost at the end. there's reasons why this hasn't been done before. the belmont is the longest race, a mile and a half. so it's grueling. there's eight horses in the event today, a couple of them didn't raise in all three of the events. they'll raise in the kentucky derby and they'll sit them out for the preakness so they're fresh and rested. et cetera a one of the reasons why it doesn't happen. that's actually some of the controversy, if there's controversy surrounding this. you have one horse that is trying to make history, others that are coming in running
9:18 am
fresh. they're not being judge odd a level playing field, is that fair. >> it's probably not fair, but i guess it's reality. california chrome when the horse didn't win it, and it was going for l triple crown. this isn't fair, there's a bunch of horses that didn't have to race. it's a grueling event. it's a mile and a half. it's a lot longer than the other races. we will see. history tells you, it's not going to happen. i feel like it's going to happen today. people are excited about this. bill writes happy belmont steaks day, bring it home american farrow. kathy says i love to witness one more triple crown before i die. run like the wind american farrow. a lot of people are on board with this. you said you think it's going to happen. i think it's more of a hope. how do you know know how a horse is going to wake up this morning and if it's going to run fast or whatever. 13 times in the row that they
9:19 am
haven't one the belmont so why not today. >> you want to drop a dollar on it. >> i'm going to the turf club. frost is the one horse that say myth win. one button before we wrap it up, i read someplace that they're telling people you should go out there and buy a one dollar ticket, met on american far owe and hold the ticket. if the horse wins, you now have a collector's item that is going to be worth a whole lot more than the win. i'm on board. are you on board with this? are you keeping track of the belmont stakes. drop that dollar bet. i'm telling you they're making history. tell us what you think, you can leave the comments on fox 29 facebook. tweet us at fox 29 philly. just make sure you use the hashtag, fox 29 weekend. > thank you. you know what else was today on
9:20 am
june 6, 1944? >> what was that. d case, historical day. 165,000 allied troops landed on the beaches of nor mandy. remembering so many things. this one got a lot of attention, what would you do in this situation? there was a couple who got a hate letter in the male. it was nasty. they posted it on facebook. and the response they got, it may surprise you. and also we're continuing to cover our big story this morning. we're taking a live look right now. this is inside an absolutely gorgeous church, saint anthony of pad what there in wilmington. they have on the back of that program, the prayer to st. francis. so many people remembering the life of a man who surely will be missed. we'll be right back.
9:23 am
> i'm jim with a silly look at the silly science. it could be tough for some of us to lose weight and researchers say our brains could be getting in the way. it may sound like a no brainer, but obese teenagers may be more sensitive to commercials for fat especiallying food. scientists at dartmouth just published a study in the journal cerebral. they looked at their brains. scans lit up for all the kids,
9:24 am
but especially for the chubby teenagers when they saw food. and even the part of the brain that controls their mouth showed a lot of activity. it may seem obvious that our brains fire up when we see somethingic of we like. such as our favorite meal on tv. but our dr. mike explains there's more to it than that. the way that the brain works if someone has developed patterns of eating, when they see something on television that's visual and it's stimulating to them like eating a hamburger or french fries this actually is a learned process. one, limit the amount of television that they much what, but also the types of commercials that they see with regards to fast food and unhealthy food choices. that advice from dr. mike. much more satisfying than any fast food meal.

people to come out for this mass and pray. in just one hour that is when the services will be beginning. we can hear some of the sounds there as they're playing some stringed instruments. i wanted to read you the prepare from st. francis. it says lord make me an instrument from your piece. where there was hatred let me so love, where there was injury harden, where there was doubt, faith, where there was dispare, hope. where there was darkness, light, where there is sadness, joy. and then the pray goes on and so many people are reading the words in the prepares remembering the man who touched so many as the father of two children, as a than some, as a us band and as a great leader, attorney general two terms there of the state of delaware. our coverage of course is going to continue. we have live coverage there. we'll extreme it all on our website myfoxphilly.com. we have a new app. when the president arrives which
9:29 am
he should be doing in just about 15 minutes we will bring you some coverage of his arrival and then when he delivers the ultimatey. very historic to have a president deliver the yuley. we will have that right here on fox 29. you may have seen this next story on your social media page. this is david anwan any shaw. they live in birmingham, a.m. bam a and they have been married for 4 years with three children. earlier this week he received a hateful letter at his business. it reads in part, it's hard to imagine a birmingham leaving and bringing back a black wife. you need to move to california where that is sop or accepted. the letter was anonymous. so david had no idea who to respond to. so he posted a response on his facebook page and the response has been receiving overwhelming support. joining us now on skype, david anwan any shaw to talk a little bit about this situation and
9:30 am
good morning to both of you. >> good morning. > we've got -- i heard about the criticism. i heard about the letter. and were you surprised to get that kind of negative in 2015? >> yes. absolutely. to say the least. since we've been married i don't think we ever received any kind of derogatory, negative comments. second glances of course to be expected, but other than that, that's the only negative response we've ever gotten and even since we've opened the store, the community has been highly encouraged and encouraging for us and really happy to have us here and very supportive of us since we've been here. what's interesting anwan any i'll ask you. when i heard the story, the surprise for me was that you were surprised am i know how much progress we've made into 2015, but you were sincerely shocked that kind of id
9:31 am
osteomyelitis cross i we'll call it still exists and from someone from the northeast we hear birmingham, l alabama and say who. >> did that shock you? >> it did. someone has to really be very alone or take a lot of energy for someone to have to take their time to put something together and put it out there. especially in -- like my husband said where we are. this area is very progressive. a lot of our families here are looking forward to the progress and different development in the works for things to be happening here and for somebody to write something like that, i was quite surprising. you guys put it out on social media and the response that you're talking about continued because we put it up on our fox 29 facebook and thousands of people literally responded. tara wrote some people have too
9:32 am
much time on their hands. you people have a beautiful family. ignorance is all around no matter where we live. i'm so happy he said what he said, speaking about you. of love has no column offer. some people are really just stuck in the past. another thing that happened with us when we actually put the pictures up is that people started sending us pictures of their interest racial families, putting them up on facebook. they wanted to show their love and support for you and many said that they could relate to your story. so we're actually showing pictures of hundreds of people who sent these pictures to us in support. they talked about social media bringing people together. and that seems to be the real positive that comes out of this. i know you guys have children and this is kind of next generation of having to deal with these challenges. how did you explain it to them and how have they responded? >> well, we didn't know if we should tell them or not at first because it's not anything that they can even relate to. they happening out with kids of
9:33 am
all different races, especially the neighborhood that we live in. even my eight year old son was like, geez, man, get a life. their response was kind of comical we really worried how they were going to he that it. we thought they were going to be fearful or scared, but to them what's the big deal. i got to tell you -- thank you for spending sometime with us. i got to tell you what started off as a really depressing or hateful story, the overwhelming story has all of us encouraged. thank you for sharing your story and thank you to all the people who responded to us. >> absolutely. thank you. > you guys have a good one. and folks tell us what you think. the social media response has been overwhelming, but we still want to hear from you. you can leave your comments on our fox 29 facebook page. you can tweet us at fox 9 philly, just make sure you use the hashtag, fox 9 weekend. thank you, bill. we're already getting a the look of those comments in. we'll read them in just a moment.
9:34 am
it's graduation for a the look of people, even graduation present kindergarten. a lot of families celebrating. they want to be there for those accomplishments. did you hear about this, some parents are in big trouble for cheering when their older kids. they had an arrest warrant and fines for the grown ups. we'll discuss this one coming up. we are looking at the radar here and it's showing that a few showers are around and will be developing throughout the afternoon. one or two rain drops coming down right along the coast, but showers and storms could be developing. it just started to do that just south of trenton right through burlington county. look for the possibility of a stronger thunderstorm within the next few hours across this area clearing out by this evening. see what that means for our temperatures forth rest of the weekend. i'll have in the seven day forecast coming up. comments already coming in about the interview that we just did. miss says whatever to that couple was the most racist thing
9:35 am
to happen, flat out disrespectful. what happened to them was disrespectful and racist. we also this one from deirdre, i'm in an interest racial relationship and you would be shocked at the stares we get. they must like what they see. >> that's a good attitude. you let us smile on something that is a very serious topic. that is air force one, that is in the new castle county area right now. that is the plane that the president was traveling on. that's not air force one. there are a couple that they use to transport. that essentially means that the president is here and getting prepared, making his way to delaware. > we'll be right back. discover brookside, and discover an exciting combination of tastes. rich, dark chocolate covering soft centers.

9:47 am
arriving. there is the plane coming in. they will be making their way over to the church to give the ultimatey for the son of vice-president. one of the reasons you would use this location, of course beau biden was a member of the air international guard for more than a decade. of course he served a tour in iraq as well. so this is the arrival as we are now watching of air force one with the president and the first lady on board. once they arrive there are many streets blocked and we have lots of detours. we have a whole list on your on website myfoxphilly.com where they have detours in that entire area. the president will be making his way to the church where it's already a packed house. there are more than a thousand people inside of that getting ready for the mass and the services which will begin at 0:30 this morning. it's interesting to have the president to different the ultimatey for beau biden, but

there are many different reasons that the vice-president thought it important to have the president give this speech. this was beau biden, a person -- a wonderful person. he spent so much time with all of the people of delaware, but he was a friend to the fox 29 family. he would come here to good day very frequently he. he loved our troops. he would come out for our support on military day in september. he was a charge, interesting person who loved our country as well and a wonderful father. we saw him adoring the viewing yesterday, a very emotional day for his wife and two his two children. he had that stroke a number of years ago and then he had a first time battle with brain cancer and we thought he had beat it and he had such political aspirations. unfortunately it did come back and with a force this spring. he was being treat at walter

reed. and we did lose him a week ago. we got the news tragically on saturday night. i remember many of you as well when we got the sad news that we had lost beau biden, of course the attorney general from general. obviously you're seeing the plane coming in. the president, the first lady will be getting off shortly. as you mentioned earlier aside are the huge impact that the biden's have in delaware, it is historic that a president is actually going to deliver the ultimatey. it just doesn't happen that often. and president obama coming out, making a statement will be there showing his respect and there ill with be so many dig tries there because the bidens obviously are a political family, but a family that has touched so many people in that area. as you pointed out, very, very tight security, the president, vice-president, so many members of congress, elected officials ill will be there. we'll continue to keep people postedder we going to wait to

see the president and the first lady as they make their way off the plane. we'll continue to keep you posted because as soon as the service begins at 10:30 we'll be live with that extreme as well. the president had gotten so close to the by deb family over the last seven or eight years. he had a personal relationship with beau biden and didn't want to give this ultimatey. there will be a number of ultimatey by his two six, hunter and ashley biden. we know the by dense have been touched by tragedy. the vice-president now was just a fresh senate he suffered that tragic loss. he had gone to washington to look at his offices there and his wife was out with their children and got in that terrible accident just before christmasing whying out to a christmas tree and that is when vice-president joe biden lost his life and his daughter and his sons were so severely injured that he was sworn in at their bed sides. he would take the train back and forth out of the wilmington station for all of his years in

the senate because he wanted to be there with his sons. he has lost another one of his sons to cancer. but he still has his son hunter who will be delivering a julie and another daughter with his new wife jill. so many people who loved this family to be there today and so many different representatives will be there today. the u.s. army general raymond ordinary narrow. he was the commanding general of you s forces in iraq during the time that bowe was deployed there as an officer. weir seeing some of the first arrival team. it's the press corporation that will step out of the rear of the plane. they travel with the president wherever he goes. the door is opening. one of the things you pointed out, tragedy has struck the family. vice-president biden was nearly in consolable at that point. some of the things they said now

is that friends and family and so many people have rallied to kind of form that circle of love and circle prayer around them that they deal with a tragedy that no parent expects to have to deal with and this is the second time they've had to face this type of situation. people are rallying. thoughts and prayers continue with the family. you're seeing right now as they prepare for the president and the first laid definitely you said that the press corps are also traveling with them. several dignitaries. they will make their way off of the plane, get into transport and be taken over to the services. now, the service is supposed to start at 10:30, but the president's ultimatey is not expected to about noon today. that's exactly right. we'll be carrying that of course life when the president does give that address. i was trying to think of how many times in the past do you remember when you have a president that gives a julie for

a world figure. we had george w bush gave when ronald reagan died. president obama gave the ultimatey when nelson mandela as did so many other world leaders. but it is few and far between when have a leader, one of the greatest leaders of the free world delivering a special message to someone that has touched many different lives. i think this also, aside from again we're focusing on that tragic loss and the impact that they've had in delaware. but i think this has also had such a major impact on people because again you pointed out another child that the biden's lost, this now with bowe, that's the not something that parents ever really expect to deal with. it's not something that you're ever prepared to deal with. and i think that people are seeing that and seeing that they need support and so it's not just friends. it's a nation really that is stepping up and saying in such a

trying time we're going to rally and support you. there is the president stepping off with his family. malia and sasha obama. it's interesting the obama and biden families they went from civil friends, middle school graduation ceremony because biden's granddaughter is in the same school. they just celebrated on one end. those two girls are very close friends and now they are mourning together these families in wilmington. you see the secret service vehicle blocked out but you can see a member of the military greeting the president and some serious nods there as the team is getting ready to escort them. of course this is a relationship that has grown so close over the past years. they certainly had their times, but they have certainly prayered together and spent so much time together. the president has now arrived safely in our area, the airport at the national guard, the
